I was actually expecting something different, but this is straight up roasted ham.

Starts off with a salty meat note and smells very dry. But later it does have some "holiday ham glaze" scent to it but it's still ham.

I initially passed on this based on the description on the site, but after reading the reviews I got a bottle. Oh my flavors, this isn't just wonderful, it's hoard worthy. I picked up the atmo asap because I want everything in my life to smell like this.

I think "apple cider doughnut with spices and grasses" is pretty spot on. The first thing I notice is a creamy juiciness. Like when you put something in your mouth and it just bursts forth with deliciousness. There is definitely some autumn/chai/pumpkin spice in the background, but it isn't overwhelming at all. It just provides a deep, rich bottom that holds the lighter pumpkin-flesh juiciness. After wearing this for a little while, it does develop a more creamy and bakery scent.

This is just incredible and I love it!! It's everything I love about autumn in a bottle.

I don't usually like florals or cherry, but I loved the cherry note in Zombie Moon. On my skin I cannot wear carnation as it is so headache inducing, but I was hoping the carnation in this might work.

After using this 2-3 times a week for over a month I am just now noticing the cherry coming out in this. It's like 99% dusky floral. Like a pile of garden flowers covered with dry snow. This isn't the sweet vanilla snow note, it's very dry and powdery. The cherry is so faint to me, but it doesn't seem like the same cherry from Zombie Moon, it's more like cherry syrup.

To me this is a very feminine adult powdery floral, with a tiny hint of syrupy sweetness that fades in and out. Very lovely and traditional, but not really my thing.

I usually use 3-5 squirts of Hair Gloss in my hair after a shower, and with this scent 1 or 2 is all it takes. This is a very strong, powerful scent. It lingers an extremely long time, sometimes more than a day!

I don't find it to be sweet or creamy at all. I don't detect any vanilla/marshmallow goo notes. To me, this is very bitter, un-sweet, super dark chocolate and something earthy and kind of musky, almost like a light patchouli. I LOVE chocolate scents and perfumes, but this one isn't really doing anything for me. I may stash this away for a while to see if my opinion of it changes over time.

My 13 year old son has had really great luck with Neutral (which just smells like clean musk, so it's very simple), Event Horizon (surprising, but it's not heavy, just slightly resiny and musky), and Baneberry (very strong, very clean). I haven't got around to ordering my rollerballs yet, so we are applying 2 swipes from the imp cap each day, one on each wrist.

When first applying, none of these are very overwhelming, and they are light enough that you can't smell them unless you're in his personal bubble. By the time he gets home at night I don't really smell any lingering scent, but he doesn't have that teenager smell, lol.

I'm letting him test out the Phoenix and Yule decants I've ordered before we place his first bottles order. As others haven mentioned, Paranorman, Coraline, and The Fraggle Rock collection seem great for kids! I'm very excited to get him on the bandwagon!

On impulse I purchased a bottle of this.

The reviews are pretty spot on. It smells like a delicious high end buttercream frosting with just a touch of citrus. I do get a tiny hint of cake, but mostly it's frosting! It stays fairly consistent the entire time I wear it.

However, sadly this is an extremely light scent with not much staying power. Even if I slather it on, it's barely detectable unless I'm sniffing right against my skin. It also seems to just fade away after a few hours, leaving just a hint of buttery sweetness. I have been putting this on before bed, as it's so light and dreamy it helps me fall asleep. If this was a GC scent, or even less rare and expensive, I think I would love this as a bedtime scent, or a scent for days when I don't want anything very noticeable.

This is an older version, 2007 I think? Had a decant I found when I was re-organizing my stash.

This is a fairly simple scent on me. It smells ambery and like bakery sweetness, without any buttery or creamy notes in some other bakery type scents. It's difficult to detect any specific notes, just generally a little musky, sweet, and a tiny touch of fruitiness.

This smells like warm sand that has been scented with coconuts, and a bright and juicy fruit note. If the description didn't say cherry I would not have guessed that was what it is, as I generally don't like cherry. This is very nice and refreshing!

Cream, vanilla, and sweets do well with my skin chemistry, and I'm not a big fan of root beer.

This applies wet like a very smooth sugary vanilla. I can see the resemblance others have pointed out to B&BW Warm Vanilla Sugar. In the first 10 minutes or so, I do detect a fresh, almost minty, note that I believe is the herbal quality of the saffron. After this fades away it returns to this beautiful, creamy, decadent, sensual vanilla. This wears close to the skin, but it has a fair bit of sillage, when I leave and re-enter an area I've been for a while I can smell this lingering in the air. I keep getting little wafts of the perfume, a mix of slightly cold fresh vanilla buttercream, and deeper, soft vanilla.

This is really lovely!

...with something like blood musk, and a touch of tart smoke...

This is pretty much it. Blood Popsicle is fruity without being fresh, juicy, and sweet. It smells slightly sour, slightly sweet, and with a smokey lusty haze. All of the OLLA come across to me as more than they seem, more rich and complex than the notes give away. Blood Popsicle is the same, it's complex and dark, I can't stop smelling myself when I wear it!

I think several of the other reviews perfectly described Wooden Bullet. It goes on like a very strong wood, but layered, different wood scents all combining into a sweet wood smell. Not like a tree, but more like a piece of carved wood. As it blooms on my skin it retains a fresh, sweet wooden edge, but there is a hint of super sensual male cologne. It's almost like pheromones, very alluring. As I wear it throughout the day I get that sweet, sappy wooden quality, combined with the cologne, and a slightly heavy metallic note.

To me this smells the way my husband's workshop smells when he's been in there all day: cut wood, metal tinge in the air, male musk, cologne, and love.

Florals and I, particularly roses and carnations, don't get along. I tend to amp these parts of a scent until I'm nauseous and have a headache. Shelley, Byron, and Keats (also know as Those French Assholes) goes on wet like a sharp punch to the face, no individual notes just intense perfume power. After a couple hours of drydown I get a very well-behaved rose scent, like garden roses cut and placed inside a lady's bed chamber. I'm picking up some laudanum/opium not so much smokey as resiny, perhaps the way a chunk of opium would smell as it's set out on the table. I don't get any anise or other absinthe notes.

If I wanted to wear a very grown-up, ladylike, sophisticated floral perfume, this would be the winner!

I'm re-testing all my OLLA scents today to decide what to order back-ups of. Diamond Star is hands down my favorite OLLA scent, so I knew I would get another bottle.

To me Diamond Star smells like the very expensive agalloch wood/agarwood/aloes wood/oud chips that you can get from incense dealers. Just the purest, most complexly delicate wood with a background of musk that doesn't smell like skin musk...it's like the pure essence of a tree. From the moment I first smelled this in the bottle it's been 100% expensive aloeswood to me, and aging all these months has just deepened that association. This would be divine to scent wooden boxes and furniture.

I may have to get more than one backup of this as it's really beautiful.

This is the first hair gloss I tried. Sadly, the scent was really not for me. It has a very sharp, almost acrid scent. I didn't pick up the red musk scent at all. It's the scent equivalent of listening to music with all high end treble and no bass. High, sharp, piercing.

I wish this was a nice on me as it seems to be on the other reviewers!

I love the original Candy Butcher, it seems like it was made just for me. The OG version applies like a creamy, rich, hot chocolate and then transforms into this most beautiful soft, feminine perfume with a hint of rich chocolate. It lasts a decent length of time and never seems overwhelming. 100% A++

The 2015 version is very different on my skin. It applies a little like musty, dry cat pee and poop and then turns into stale poop-cocoa for a hour or so. Boomslang is the same way on me (mmm lizard poop!), so I wonder if they have notes or a chocolate component in common? After roughly an hour, the 2015 Candy Butcher does settle down into a slightly creamy perfume. It's not as smooth or delicate as the OG version, and it never looses that dry, powdery coco scent.

I prefer the older version, but it's very hard to find. Maybe with time the 2015 version will work better for me!

As I was reading your post I kept thinking, "Slytherin" so I had a chuckle when I saw you mentioned it.

Yorick what what stood out in my mind as you described your study into funeral traditions and your "Southern Gothic" leanings, but I'm not sure that would work so much on you. If I had to pick, I'd try The Girl on you, it just seems like it would suit your interests and style. It's not sexy or heavy like Jezebel, it's almost like it's opposite.

Anyway, thought I'd also mention I'm pretty sure you are awesome!

As soon as I opened this my husband got a quizzical look on his face and started sniffing the imp heavily. He then exclaimed, "Trees and Trends, motherf*cker!"

I hate to say it, but he's right on the money. I me this has a woody, deep floral beginning that stays strong for a long time. After it's dried on the skin I do get a watery cucumber scent, pear, and more of the deep floral/wood combo. It smells exactly like my local homegoods store.

I've tried Lust, but i couldn't discern much, but i loved Lust Bonbon instead

If you liked Lust Bonbon then I have to second Circaea's recommendation for La Petite Mort. I would also second Pumpkin Queen because I love it and I wish more people would wear so I could smell it more.

You might also try Bien Loin D’Ici, it's GC and it's similar to Smut without the Patchouli and dirtiness.

This instantly reminds me of walking down Coliseum St. in the Garden District in the late summer. The jasmine is a bit loud on my skin, but the honeysuckle and lemon balm are taking me back down memory lane! It would be hard to label just one scent as New Orleans, since it's a city that prides itself on being spastic and hard to pin down. This is the decay of a once proud aristocracy, determined to remain beautiful and graceful even in death. Summer in a bottle for this southerner.

In the imp it's mostly peony, floral, and woody in that order.

On my skin it does have a sort of matronly smell, similar to what the other reviews noted. I think the peony with it's soft perfumy notes and the herby wood of the laurel that bring the "Grandmother" out in this. It smells so soft and comforting, yet the lily and white musk lend a slightly sad wistfulness to this blend. I wouldn't normally be attracted to this kind of scent, but I find it very warm and comforting.

I should start off saying I love toast. With butter, butter and jam, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar...served with a pot of breakfast tea it's the perfect start to a day. In the imp I get this exact evocation. Airy, very slightly buttery scent, weak black tea, and sugary speckles.
Wet on the skin, all of the individual components are present: a sort of airy white bread, a tiny bit of cold butter, some astringent weak tea with a hint of honey-like sweetness.
I have a naturally "sweet" smell, so astringent scents like tea work well on my skin, as do foody and buttery notes. This however sort of falls apart on my arm. It's just a very light perfume, delicate and sweet. If I didn't know what the notes were I would say pink tea rose and sugar lumps. It smells to me how I imagine Ms. Umbridge's tea from the Harry Potter movie would smell. Pink, roses, and sugar.

So excited to finally get to try this! In the bottle it smells like a mix of grape, ginger,and pear candy. It smells hard, sugary, and very amazing.

Wet on the skin it smells like slightly spiced fruitcake, with something slightly sinister and wonderful lurking in the background (probably the pink pepper and lily).

My skin doesn't play nice with overwhelming floral and spicy (Red-Hots type) scents. This however, stays nice and fruity. The pepper and lily round out the back of the scent, showcasing the wonderful juiciness of the grapefruit and pear. The cake goes a tiny bit like play-doh, similar to Eat Me, but it's so subtle that it's not bothersome. Mostly this reminds me of a fruity, gingery hard candy you've been sucking on for a while, and you get a tastebud stuck in a sharp crevice in the candy. It's delicious but ever so slightly dangerous. This is a very wearable foody/fruity scent.

This is one of those scents I feel like only BPAL could create. Somehow it smells exactly like the description.

Wet it smells to me like wads of wet toilet paper and apple juice (this is probably the juicy squashed pumpkin and maple). After the drydown it alternates from a sweet woodsy blend of maple tree/wet tp scent to a pumpkin/egg scent with a yeast richness from the beer. It's absolutely fantastic and so much nicer and more wearable than it sounds.

It doesn't have much throw, but instead I occasionally catch whiffs of scent that sort of shock my brain and I have to start huffing my arm.

It reminds me of Halloween nights when I was a kid, running around the neighborhood causing mischief. Spot on and perfect!

Sidenote: I do not get cucumber from this, and I kind of wish I did! I love cucumber.

In the bottle this smells like an astringent, clean scent of tea and soft gardenia. When I first apply there is a beautiful metallic floral scent with lot of throw. Unfortunately, this almost immediately goes old lady rose perfume. I would assume the vanilla musk and gardenia are reacting with my skin to create this "rose" note. My skin amps florals, rose in particular, so I'm not surprised this didn't work out for me.
I tried this also on my husband and it was a very metallic and soft scent which lasted for about 4 hours. The "chrome" smell is really beautiful and quite different on him.
