    Hua Mulan

I was hoping for more leather from this one, but I can't pick it up really. The rest of it is a lovely scent, though. I am mainly getting the white tea-ginger combo, with a whiff of jasmine and bergamot upon drydown. I can't say I am getting any pink musk (I keep comparing it to Vasilissa, but they don't feel alike at all), but I guess it is in the background holding the notes together. It has a light throw, but lasts a fair amount of hours.

    Love

I am getting a lovely, soft rose marshmallow, with not very much strawberry, which is fine with me, as strawberry doesn't always play nice on my skin. The rose is also not cloying or soapy, just sweet and bright. It reminds me a little of Pink Snowballs, with marshmallow instead of snow.

    Antony

This is lovely, and rather unisex actually! It is quite herbal with a sting of frankincense and a sexy background of leather. It also feels rather smoky, without feeling really burned. Just soft plumes of incense in a small church. This is very fitting for the title character, and I shall definitely be enjoying it more often!

    Loved To Death

This starts off as a blast of clove on me! Really, it seems that's all there is to this scent. But then it dries down, and the other notes come out more, and when it's completely dry it becomes a delicious, dark, smoky vanilla. It stays fairly close to the skin, so it's good for slathering, and it lasts a good number of hours, too.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Oh, I love Perilous Parlor, too! You might want to try other blends with a prominent pear note, like The Vine or Pleasant Embrace. If you like Alice, you will probably like some other light blends from the Mad Tea Party collection: The Dormouse or Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. For Dorian I would definitely recommend the Lilith blend Venustas! Also, if you're a little adventurous, maybe try the recent Yule blend Dumb Cake. It doesn't share any notes with Dorian, but it has a similar feel to it, I think.

    Moai

I am not entirely sure how I feel about this. I got a decant because the concept was intriguing, and it certainly is different! It is mostly smoke, but rather faint smoke at that, and perhaps a little bit of something else in the background. But yeah, mostly smoke. I guess I was hoping for more of a tropical feel? Anyway, give it a try if you like things like vetiver, or if you're a little adventurous!

    The Little Wooden Doll

Today I rediscovered an old imp of this in my stash and decided to retest it. I remember I didn't like it when fresh, but to my pleasant surprise it is now exactly what I had always hoped it would be! The rose is strong and freshly-picked and the amber and wood lend a glowing quality to it that settles warmly on the skin. If you are put off by this at first try tucking away for a while and see if you like it bettet aged. My imp has certainly grown wonderful with age. I am now contemplating a full bottle to store away for a year's time...

    Madam Lou

This starts out very almondy, but rather light at the same time. There is definitely a light muskiness underneath as well. As it dries down, a LOT of the cedarwood comes out and almost drowns out the floral aspects, but I am still getting a sharp kind of floral, probably the peony as that tends to go sharp on me. I am not getting much in the way of honey. Overall I find it very lovely, but I especially like the earlier stages before it becomes so sharp.

    When the Winter Chrysanthemums Go

Lest the next few updates be dedicated solely to radishes, we've created this scent to keep the winter chrysanthemums alive. A gentle flurry of snow dusting the season's last chrysanthemums, illuminated by pale rays of winter's amber-tinted sunlight. There was a lot less of the Lab's snow note than I was expecting based on the description. It has a slightly cold feel, but it is definitely mostly floral. I never knew how a chrysanthemum smelled, so I was quite curious. This is lovely and kind of sweet (initially almost too much so). It has a decent throw, but doesn't last very long.

    Tamamo-no-Mae

This is very sweet on me, almost as if there was honey in it somewhere. It could be the creamy florals, perhaps? Or the Amacha? I am also getting a nice sting of ginger from it, and a little bit of the tea leaf. It is quite pleasant and makes me smell almost like sweet rice cakes; there is a definite Asian vibe in this. Unfortunately it isn't very strong on my skin, but it lasts a decent number of hours.

    Blackbear Moon

I don't get a lot of wood or pine from this, actually. It is, to me, a sweet, honeyed nut blend, which was surprising but pleasant. It definitely feels a little fuzzy like bear fur It lasted a reasonable number of hours, and the throw was good.

    Katrina van Tassel

This is pretty much what the descriptipn says; I am getting a soft white rose similar to Parlement of Foules, sweetened up by a little bit of cream and a drop of honey. Just a drop, because this honey didn't amp all over the place on me. It is pretty. The only caveat for me is that it remains extremely faint on my skin and doesn't last very long.

    Ethereal Scents?

The discontinued scent Moonshine and Mist is also very ethereal, but also very light (at least on my skin)
  14. Aviatrix

    White Rose

White rose buds, with vanilla tea, benzoin, orris, coconut meat, and frankincense. I am getting a very soft and delightful rose along with a little bit of coconut and a background of vanilla tea. There is a resinous overlay that must be the frankincense. Luckily the coconut didn't go plasticky as it can sometimes do on me. I am not sure I am getting much of the orris, but it probably blends into the light floral aspect from the rose. It is rather light on my skin, so it is good for slathering! It is quite lovely and light and perfect for a sunny day.

    Ethereal Scents?

Hi there! I have tried coming up with some GC's, but I can't really recall any ethereal ones that aren't discontinued But I do have some ideas for LEs, though! The recent Bards of Ireland blend, The Fairy Thorn is very fairy-ish and ethereal! Also the Lilith blend from last year, Ghost Houses, seems very ethereal to me, and is actually one of my personal favorites. Both are very light with some interesting, different florals and an air of mystique and wistfulness. ETA Oh, and also Under the Harvest Moon! One of my all-time favorites, and very autumny-ethereal.
  16. I have always gotten a feel similar to Eve from the Vampires Don't Sleep Alone blend Cicuta. It is like smoky roses.

    The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa

This is oh so light on my skin, but I will try and describe it as best I can anyway There is definitely cherry blossom, and a slight astringency from the black tea. There might be lilies as well, but it seems to be mostly cherry blossom in the floral department. There is a very comforting and light mint permeating everything, and a teensy bit of booziness from the rice wine. Not sure about the ho wood, but it may be lurking in the background? I like this one a LOT, and am a little sad that it's so faint on my skin.

    House of Mirrors Atmosphere Spray

This is beautiful! It's a blast of not-to-sweet vanilla and amber, but I don't really get anything related to glass from it. It also doesn't last very long, but it is absolutely wonderful while it lasts

    Diwali

It is difficult for me to distinguish that many notes, as they blend together to create a general soft, creamy sweetness. Perhaps the most prominent is a whiff of almond, the different fruits, and incense. It stays really close to the skin, and I needed to put on a LOT before I could properly smell it. But it is very sweet and festive
  20. Aviatrix

    Snow-Flakes

2006 version. This has a whole lot in common with other Yules like Snow White and Go to Sleep, Darlings. It is slightly more fresh and minty than the others, but there is the same distinct sweet snow note underneath. It is really pretty and wintry! It is rather faint on the skin, though.

    Rice flower scents!

Thank you so much for that recommendation, it sounds truly lovely!

    Rice flower scents!

Yay! Judging from the notes it sounds lovely, too. I should probably give it a try - I love anything rice related

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Snow White is very similar to Go to Sleep, Darlings (it can be a bit difficult to find nowadays, though). Other sweet snowy scents include Waltz of the Snowflakes and Winter-Time. I myself am always looking for another one like Tweedledee, so I don't have very good recommendations for that one. But last year, there was a bunch of orange notes in the Metamorphosis scents, so you might want to check out Eastern Comma and Question Mark. Katharina is quite similar to the recent Lupercalia scent Aristocratic Couple. For Dorian, you might also like Antikythera Mechanism, Tombstone, Perversion, and Venustas from last year's Liliths. Strawberry Sufganiyot is a bit of a doughnut scent. Other doughnut scents include Chanukkiyah and 13 (December 2013), which is basically pomegranate doughnuts. I am sorry that those are mostly LE's, but I hope you find something to like anyway

    Sara Pezzini

This is…..pure leather on me. I get none of the other notes at all. *sadface* Yeah, not really my cup of tea, to be honest. The leather really drowns out any nuance in it.

    The Magdalena

This is like a little slice of resin heaven. I am definitely getting the frankincense as well as the myrrh, with a little labdanum thrown in. I can't distinguish the other notes, though. It feels very warm and cosy on the skin, and has that mysterious resin quality about it that makes you think of ancient enigmas and secret cults. I quite like it, but probably not enough for a full bottle, as I rarely go all-out resinous these days
