    Very Slightly Haunted Dollhouse

A life in miniature, manipulated by deft little hands: sugared carnation and wispy white wine grape. This is very much wine grapes on me. Not much carnation to be found, although the blend is kind of spicy still. It lasts a really long time on me, although in the end it's very faint of course. I like it

Scents for late summer into autumn

In 2009, the lab had a late-summer update called Summer's End. They are collectively perfect for late summer/early autumn, and some of my all-time favorites, like Under the Harvest Moon, are from this update.

    Jareth

Have I really never reviewed this before? Well, time to make up for that, then! I love Jareth. The fougere is similar to Dorian (I am not really getting the lilac), but as others have mentioned, this is a little more badass Dorian, because the leather is quite strong as well. It is a gleaming kind of delicious new leather, not dusty or worn in, but not too overwhelming either, like leather can sometimes be. It all blends together very beautifully. There is a sweetness that could be either the tonka or the oud as well. Although the overall concept is rather masculine, I would say that women with a certain attitude could definitely pull it off as well. If you like Dorian, you will probably like this too, but it is a less sweet kind of Dorian for sure. It fits the character very well, I must say! It feels glamorous and sexy, but refined and elegant and badass at the same time. I am glad I finally got around to getting a bottle of it!

    Mare Forecunditatis

I am so glad I took a chance on this scent. It doesn't morph much on me, but stays a spicy acorn scent for hours and hours. I am not sure I am getting any of the strawberry leaf, but there is something a little like tea in the scent, a sweetness that could be the strawberry leaf. I am not usually good with patchouli, and that was the one note I was worried about, but I am not actually getting any of it except a faint sweet smokiness. Overall I am so happy with my bottle and would recommend it to anyone who likes spicy and deep autumnal scents

    Sugared incense

I think A Stroll Through the Quarter has a good sugared incense feel as well! Plus banana. The Dorian adds just a bit of sweetness to the incense, which in itself is beautiful too. Would definitely recommend it here.

Playing Tag in a Garden Full of Gods

This is a light and lovely, but a little indistinct floral scent on me. The jasmine tea is definitely there but light like all the other notes. It is quite beautiful, but maybe a little too generic for me.

    Yule Buddies

This is a wonderfully dark gingerbread-leather! After a while a little bit of the fruit comes out, but I don't get any tobacco, which is fine with me. A great Yule scent, also if you like more masculine scents.

    A Stroll Through the Quarter

At first this is a lot of banana, but a little dark, like flambeed banana. As it dries, more of the incense comes out and a little bit of sweetness from the Dorian. Not sure what oleander smells like. It stays fairly close to the skin, but is quite lovely.

    Melisande, The Puppet Mistress

I was looking forward to the violet and the mimosa the most, but this is pretty much straight up jasmine on me It's not an unpleasant jasmine, but I am disappointed that that's all I can smell. If you love jasmine, though, you will probably love this one!

    Doc Constantine (2015)

From what I can read online, chaparral is supposed to be the scent of some kind of desert plants? I'm not sure what it smells like, so I can't comment on the addition to this scent I have also never smelled the original! This scent is mostly cedar, fir and leather on me. A truly delicious and very unisex blend, where one note never dominates the others. I am not noticing much in the way of amber or musk, but the scent feels well-blended, so I'm sure those two notes are present in the background. I am considering getting a bottle, since it's different enough from my other scents to warrant a place in my collection, and I could see myself wearing it when I want a little oomph in my life

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)

It's been a few years since I sold my bottle of original Mme. Moriarty. Not because I didn't like it, but because I simply didn't reach for it very often, so it deserved better attention than I was giving it. So I can't remember the intricacies of the scent. This new version is rather good as well. I don't normally do red musk or patchouli at all, but in this blend they are both tempered really well by the other notes - the red musk doesn't amp all over the place to the exclusion of every other note, and the patch doesn't go too smoky. It is a sultry, slightly smoky, delicious fruity scent, and it feels like the blackcurrant complements everything else very well. I'm still undecided if I should buy a bottle of the new one. This one has a ton of throw on me, and I'm not always comfortable with wearing perfume that has so much throw, so I don't know. There is nothing to complain about scent-wise, this truly is beautiful and very fitting for the character. It also lasts a long time on me.

    Midnight on the Midway (2015)

I should start by saying the original Midnight on the Midway is something like my holy grail scent. I love it to bits. This one went on rather funky at first, and it made me sad and worried. I'm not sure what it is, but something just didn't sit right on my skin. I left it on, though, and after some drying down it turned into the lovely incense-floral smell that I love from the old version. I am not sure I am actually detecting any influence from the blue musk - and perhaps there was even blue musk in the original, who knows? At any rate, if you love the old version, you will likely love this one, too. If the wet stages give you pause, give it a little time to settle! And if you're just curious because of what you've heard about the original, this one is very close in nature, so it's a good bottle to invest in, in my opinion. For all lovers of sugared incense and dark flowers!

    Jiggery Pokery

This is indeed orange creamsicle, with something else underneath. Could be the cream? It is pleasant enough, but as orange creamsicle scents go, I still prefer Tweedledee, so I won't be needing a bottle of this.

    Looking for

For dirt-heavy scents I would recommend Penny Dreadful, Hallow-e'en 1914, or Yorick. For autumn leaves there is A World Where There Are Octobers, Magnificent Autumn, Autumn and Winter, October, or Harvest Moon 2013.

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love

The only Harvest Moon I have tried is the 2013 version, which is so wonderful. Red roses and swirling autumn leaves Magnificent Autumn is also great!

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Welcome to BPAL! If you like good rose scents like Peacock Queen, you might want to try a few of the General Catalog rose scents, especially The Rose, Roses Pearls and Diamonds, and Snooty Rose. If you like the feel of Alice you will probably like the feel of several of the other Mad Tea Party scents. One of my own personal favorites aside from Alice is Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, which shares a light and creamy quality with Alice. You might also want to try out Vasilissa, another light and girly scent. If you can find the discontinued scent Aeval, it seems to me to be slightly similar in feel to Titania. Ava is sadly now out of stock, but if you can find it, you will likely find it very similar to Butterflies, Flowers, and Jewels Attending.

    Symmakhia

I am mainly getting vanilla, pear, grapes, and rose. Also a little lily. Not sure how heliotrope smells, though. It is a very soft and pretty scent, not too fruity, not too floral, but somewhere nicely in between. The grapes work really well, and much better than I had thought they would! Overall, it's really beautiful and I'm glad I went for a bottle!

    Carnivàle

There is something in this reminding me of mulled wine?? I think it could be the combination of berries and spice and amber? This is a very spicy blend, as you might have guessed. I am not sure how heliotrope smells, but I am getting berries, spice, carnation, and amber. I am not detecting a lot of musk either. I thought the berries would have been more prominent. It is very festive and suitable for the concept!
  19. Hermione, or maybe even Luna, would maybe smell like Clio? I could also see Gryffindor smelling like Tintagel. And somehow Snape could smell like Ichabod Crane! It's probably the black wool that makes me think of him, but it would also fit a little with the tea with cream. Or Severin, which is basically earl grey and leather. Snape ought to wear black leather, right? Dolores Umbridge would maybe smell like Pickman: Love - sugared strawberry marshmallow! Or that could be the scent of the Hogsmeade café where Harry and Cho goes on a date (can't remember the name). Dumbledore would smell like Scholar's Tower, with the gleaming amber spheres for his phoenix!

    What's the best coconut blend?

Carnaval Diabolique is, on me, a smoky, lemony, coconutty floral. Since it has just become available again, you could try a decant

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

On me, Cicuta from the Vampires Don't Sleep Alone line is like dried rose bouquets surrounded by dusty velvet drapes and wax candles. Sort of. It feels very gothic to me anyway

    Alice

Can't remember if I already wrote a review for this….? Anyway, here it goes! This is a review of a bottle that has aged for a couple of years. I get mostly milk and honey, both very pleasant and not as cloying as they can sometimes be on me (especially honey, but here it really behaves), plus a little bergamot and carnation. I am not getting much in the way of rose at all. This scent is definitely perfect for a curious little girl, and it is one of my all-time favorites!

    The Best Mint Blends

The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa is a nice cool mint overlaying soft florals.

    Rosy Maple

This feels fun and summery and sugary! I got a few compliments on it as well It's definitely fruity with berries, not a lot of lemon blossom, but a LOT of sugar and candyfloss. The sweet pea is definitely coming out as well, which is great, because I adore sweet pea scents. This is one of my most fun and girly perfumes, and I love wearing it in summer. If you want to try something sugar-slathered and feminine, give Rosy Maple a try!

The Dole of the King's Daughter

I love the poem and the concept behind this one, so I was very hopeful! It is pretty much as I expected, with an added emphasis on the flowers and the dirt and river sand taking a seat in the background. I'm not sure how yew branches smell, though. It is darkly gothic, but in a distinctly feminine way. The flowers seem almost warm on my skin - like warm blood on the cold ground! No, actually, I'm not sure I smell any distinct blood note in here - but then again, I'm probably not good at identifying it if it's there - so to me it smells like a lot of lilies and a few damp roses on a secret garden path. It feels very mysterious and adventurous to me, so that fits it well. If you like lilies especially, you will enjoy this one! And if you like the gothic mystery of the poem behind it, you might also want to give it a try; it certainly seems fitting for the concept. I blind-bought a bottle, but I'm glad I did and will hold onto it for now.
