  1. I'm wearing Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree in honor of the DC Cherry Blossom Festival, even though I can't make it up this year. Such a gorgeous scent.

The Host of the Air has been my St. Patrick's Day scent since I got it. It's becoming tradition - get the Yeats book out of the library and wear the Yeats perfume.

  2. I usually go for mint and eucalyptus when I'm nauseous (Lick It and The Coil are faves), but for myrrh, I love Priala and Raven Moon. La Petite Mort used to be a fantastic myrrh scent on me, too, until my skin chemistry changed and the ylang ylang went urinal cake. For frankincense, my very favorite is the hair gloss.

  3. reading through the thread now, but I've been trying to find a deep green, leafy scent. I thought once upona time it was Strangler Fig, but then it stopped working on me (hunting it don to retry now)

Carlin is my absolute favorite for deep dark greenery. I know the notes might not look that promising, but on me it really is just a very deep leafy, natural, outdoorsy green with no other extra stuff.

I also really like País de la Canela, but it's a pain in the neck trying to find, and it does have the cinnamon and orchid notes in there too.

    Seconding Carlin!

  4. Fefferbella: Voyeurs is one of my favorites, but it seems pretty unique among the BPAL cherry blossom scents I've tested. Most tend to be paired with a fruit note rather than vanilla musk/oakmoss deliciousness (although that's complete love for me, too!). What's your favorite thing about the scent?

    For some LE options:

The Emathides and Under the Harvest Moon are a little bit similar (to each other), and also kind scents with a peculiar lunar glow. Both are heavy with lavender, and thanks to these blends, I'm now a lavender fan. They aren't subs for Sugar Moon, but they're vaguely in the same spectrum. (I'd say Under the Harvest Moon is the more Sugar Moon-like one.) For another scent similar to the Emathides, try On Darkness.

Ooh, you should also try Penumbra! Penumbra is one of those magical blends that's way more than the sum of its parts. It shouldn't work for me, but it does.

Trying to think of GC stuff, but there just isn't much...

Wow, I love all of those - like, top 15 love. I'm going to have to add Sugar Moon to my wishlist, aren't I?

  5. I love myrrh! I need more myrrh scents in my life. My favorites where it stands out are Priala and Raven Moon, and I love the touch of it in The Phoenix in Spring.

Fetish.Goth has myrrh and leather, but it's the scary slick black kind, so I haven't tried to get my hands on a tester. There are red musk and myrrh in Lunar Eclipse (another favorite!), but the myrrh isn't really a star player there. I'd definitely say it's worth checking out, though! Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse has both, too, and is in the same line.

  6. I love some of these Doctor Who rec's!

I've spent some more time thinking about it:

Rose: for some reason I picture Delirium fitting Rose quite well. Fruit, flower and a bit of an edge from the lemon.

Martha: Tweedledum. I'm not sure why exactly, but I picture her wearing tea/fruit scent and Tweedledum just fits her (maybe I'm biased because I don't like her...)

Donna: Donna has to wear something that fits her sparky, smart-@ss attitude, but I have not figured out what that is. Maybe Chimera? But that seems *too* bold.

Amy: Bordello. This just screams Amy to me. Or O.

Rory: I love the suggestion of Antony, that completely fits!

River: I picture River in Snake Oil. A bit sweet, a bit sexy, a bit mystery.

As for the Doctor(s), I'm still don't know where to begin!

I love your choices for River and Amy, and I was actually thinking of Chimera for Donna! Other thoughts for her were Scherezade (except the story-telling bit, I think the description is pretty apt - "unfailing courage and compassion, a sharp, quick wit, and a true understanding of human nature"), Young Pine Saplings, and Pepper.

I like tea/fruit for Martha, too, but I actually really like her. :P

And add me to the Rory=Antony group! Sacrifice for Nine and Schrodinger's Cat for Ten speak to me, as well.

  7. Anyone want to take a stab at Doctor Who? Even just limiting to the reboot doctor/companions there are a LOT of characters to consider! I got to thinking about this today and had a lot of fun wondering what on earth the Doctor would wear, then realized that each regeneration would wear something different! I don't have nearly enough knowledge on BPAL to take a stab at it, but I'd love someone else's take on it!

    9

    Rose (I thought something

    Mickey

    Jack

    10

    Martha

    Donna

    11

    Amy

    Rory

    River

and we really should include Sarah Jane.

Number 10: Bananas. It must be so.

Pahoehoe, perhaps? Grenadine, banana, and coconut rum.

All incarnations of the Doctor ought to have a somewhat whimsical scent. Nine should have leather.

I kind of want to relate Tristran and The East to the aesthetic of the show, too.

  8. Seconding Hod and The Masque! Carnation was the first note I was obsessed with when I initially got into BPAL, so I have a pretty decent collection of it.

Pink Moon 2007 (LE) is quite nice, but not particularly dark: sugared carnation and phlox.

A GC in that vein is High-Strung Daisies: daisy, pink carnation, pink pepper, and sugar.

Et Lux Fuit (LE) is one of my top favorites, and seems to be an exception to ylang ylang ruining scents for me, but it's very bright: golden amber, heliotrope, vanilla musk, carnation, daisy and sunflower bouquet, neroli, lemon peel, ylang ylang and honeycomb.

I get mostly carnation and amber from Brisingamen (GC): five ambers, soft myrtle and apple blossom, myrtle, and carnation.

If you're a fan of vanilla, definitely look up Inez (from the Carnaval): golden amber, vanilla musk, myrrh, cedar, carnation, and red sandalwood.

Ysabel (LE), for one with rose: red carnation, red roses, Spanish cedar, velvet musk, pomegranate, clove, and incense.

Red Rose (LE) doesn't actually have carnation, but it is a gorgeous blend with amber and that creamy, spicy feel: red rose buds, with amber, clove, tonka, Indian musk, fir, and tobacco.

For bath oils, L'Estate (LE) may be hard to find, but worth it: carnation, golden amber, honey myrtle, beeswax absolute, summer peach, cardamom, and vanilla orchid.

Ysabel is resiny with carnation spice: frankincense, benzoin, carnation, and balsam of Peru.

If you're into room sprays, you could look for Holiday Argument Diffusing Spray (LE) on the forum: carnation, white sandalwood, vanilla bean, Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, bergamot, and lemon peel.

Phew! Now I need to go wear some of these again!

    Edited for formatting.

  9. Hanami is sakura, ume blossoms, and wisteria. I love it to pieces. I'm not really too into florals, either, but I feel like blossoms are less "kick you in the face", as you put it. XD I think it could be a good match for Monet's Japanese Footbridge!

  10. I'd second the rec for Womb Furie, especially if you can get your hands on the 2010 vintage (supposed to be more honey). I've had my imp of Snake Oil for 2.5 years and can still barely smell vanilla on my skin at all, but Womb Furie 2010 really works for me. I also get more vanilla out of the Snake Oil Bath Oil - it definitely helped me see what all the hype for the perfume was about. :D
