    Et Lux Fuit

Was it this perfume, or another one that someone said they smelled "Chanel Light"? And I do. This one is sophisticated, but not heavy. I'm not at full slather right now, just a drop, but it's got throw without being overwhelming. It's one of those amorphous perfumes. Soft and cloudy. This is perfect for summer weddings, and romantic 10th anniversary dinners. n.

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2006

In the bottle: Whoa! That's way drier than I thought it would be. I was worried about all that sugar and stuff, but this is the smell of dry sugar, not the carmelized sugar of Sugar Skull. On: No ginger. No rice wine. Yes to aloe, or is that the ho wood? I dont' know but it's reminding me of something.... The smell of sugarcane. Real sugarcane. My teacher, my kindergarden teacher was from Jamaica, and brought us real green sugarcane. Not dried out. Plump with sugar. And green. This smells like green sugar cane, which doesn't really smell sweet so much as green and cool. Oh, this is really lovely. Really, really lovely. I'm really impressed. n.

    Chaos Theory III: Strange Attractors

They don't call 'em Chaos Theories for Nuttin'. CDVII (407) Whoa: Sweet Tarts! Now, this isn't so unusual. My brain/nose seems to always interpret a certain accord that the Lab uses as SweetTarts. I am pretty sure it's whatever they call "Cherry Blossom" that does it to me. The cherries on other scents do it too, and sometimes red currant. I cannot wear Lady Macbeth for this reason. It's red wine and currants go to Sweetarts on me. This is all Sweetarts, and then for a few minutes I get the gorgeous scent of cherry blossoms.... and then I can't smell it. Or, I can, but veeeery faintly. So faintly that I can barely smell anything at all. A faint clingling presence like ..... cherry petals. The last few fluttering down. Sadly, 407 isn't for me. I think if someone were to like Kyoto without the sandalwood, or Jailbait without the overwhelming sugar, or Queen of Hearts without the Stephonoides.... You get the idea. Sadly, those are not my favorites. I hope I can find a good home for this. It'll be lovely on someone who's skin chemistry isn't mine. ETA: Ah, I know what it reminds me of: Peony Moon. Yeah, that one smells like Sweetarts to me too n.

    Lotus Moon 2006

This is reminiscent of Bastet to me. The lotus is strong in the bottle, but on my skin it dies back quick and mellows to a rounded sweet richness that is not reminiscent of bubblegum in the slightest! Right now I am not sure if I will wear it. We'll find out ETA: For a couple of hours, the lotus goes to bad plastic on me. So sad! Later on, the lotus dies down and the rose comes forward but not in a "rosy" way -- not a typical rose way. It's really lovely now, but I don't know if I can handle the long dry down. I'll give it a few weeks and try it again. Sometimes with a little aging scents change. n.

    Litha 2006

In the bottle I definitely am hit by the scent of mead -- a honeysuckle brewed mead On, this fades quickly into mead and sunflower and daisy and pollen. So pollen filled, in fact, that I felt close to sneezing! Really lovely and summery! ETA: It's been a few hours now, and I'm happy to report that while this definitely has that honey musk note that I call "cunt musk", it's not overwhelming like Honey Moon was though. Which means that I can wear it, even out of the house! O goes to powder on me, Honey Moon is too funkadelic on me for wearing, and Athens does the same thing and goes weird due to the smoke. But Litha? I can wear a honey scent at last! I am super pleased! ETA: It's been several weeks since this review, and I just wanted to say that ever since I got it, I've been reaching for this one several times a week. It is really really quite lovely. I've got a second bottle on the line because, well, it's very happy making! I've been noticing too, that if I reapply in the afternoon, the pollen phase happens again, and I get a second burst of flowers and pollen and herbs and summer layered into my honey mead. n.

    Two Monsters

I've been looking forward to the Salons, and I bought my first one, Two Monsters. Wow, is this stuff rich. I can't smell the leather at all, and at first whiff this is all hippie incense. Nag Champa and Sandalwood and Patchouli. A little too hippie for my taste in fact. But on the resins and woods die back, and the Japanese pittosporum (common name Mock Orange) comes to the fore and this becomes a gentle orange flower, ginger, and white musk. It's all anchored by the other scents. This is so well blended that it's hard to pick out the scents individually. And that's just against my skin. When I sit back and smell, the throw (powerful!) is more resiny and woody -- and -- best of all worlds: this is a sandalwood that doesn't go to bad B/O on me. I am so very thriilled! And if the throw is like this when it's a tiny drop on the end of a toothpick, I can't to smell it at full slather Just gorgeous! n.

The most hippie / hippy scent you have tried?

Tezcatlipoca: RED PATCHOULI WHAMS YOU, followed by wafts from your suede fringed vest and the chocolate you got to sate the munchies n.
  8. Nyx might be helpful - lots of jasmine -- as well as a lot of the Somnus blends. you can use the lab's search engine, as well as when you find an oil, email the lab and ask if it's got any of the no-no oils in it. n.
  9. what do y'all think of Sleepy Moon as a migraine helper? chamomile and lavender, right? n.

    Concentration

You won't need that second cup of coffee. WOW. Also, do not use more than once during day. Now I've got a Concentration High that just won't quit. n.

    Milk & Honey

Tonight I just sniffed this in the bottle. The honey in this hit me first - it smelled exactly like the honey in Al-Araaf to me. This honey is a thin light honey to my nose, underscored by creme and tea roses. Following this was a gentle lemon that got stronger as I sniffed. It's absolutely lovely -- and a very romantic smelling blend to me. I'm looking forward to using it in an oil burner especially. I'm sitting next to a toothpick that has some of the oil on it, and it keeps wafting over me. How lovely! Bravo! n.
  12. Use to reverse even the worst streak of bad luck. Use in ritual, or to anoint mojo bags, gaming implements, and/or your hands and feet before gambling. I actually got this for a trip to Vegas that's coming up in July, but I couldn't resist the chance to have the first review. Since the description expicitly mentions wearing on skin, I tested it out tonight just for the scent. In the bottle this is extremely medicinal. It's damp and woody, with slight hints of cypress and wintergreen hovering around the edges. On, it retains all these qualities, but less cypress and more wintergreen. It makes my skin tingle. I can smell traces of what seems to be lemongrass, or lemon in it. And a lot of herbs that I can't identify. This is not a scent that I'm interested in wearing as a perfume, it's not tempting that way, I'll tell ya! It's not bad, either though, just.... strange. I'll edit this when I get back from Vegas in July ETA: OK, I'm back from Vegas, and sadly for me, I didn't win much. Of anything, really Then again, I might not have been having bad luck to begin with! That said, the BF won $100 while I lost $40. But he bought me dinner All in all, not too bad for either of us. n.

    Pain

a freebie in a swap, i'd not tried Pain yet. now, i do like The MAd Hatter quite a bit, and his Pennyroyal is a dusky dusty one. to my nose, the Pennyroyal and Lavender combine to make a perfect mint. i put it on my skin and got a chill which was fun! the scent though disappears within 5 minutes for me. this is one that i'd get and use in a lotion or a soap for the dog days of summer. or a body wake-up spray n.

    Himerus

i wish i had better things to say about this scent, but on me, it was decidedly mediocre. i got the imp as a freebie in a swap (thanks!) and i had no idea of the description. on me it was all light bergamont, followed by a decidedly funky musky tangy smell, and then nothing. i used to think that all musks were bad on me, but i've discovered some aren't. whatever the one is in this, is on the "not great" side. ah well. luckily, it's BPAL so i have about a billion other scents that are teh sexay on me n.
  15. when i wear it, i can smell vanilla, leather, smoke, tobacco, some sugar, and bourbon. n.
  16. my "smells like sex" list goes like this: Honey Moon - aka: "cunt musk single note" (on me) to the point where i was embarassed to wear it! and i don't embarass easily! Wanda -cunt musk is in there, but not like Honey Moon Smut - well, duh! others are more "smells sexy" or "smells like it inspires one to sex" as oppsed to "smells like sex itself". as for scents that the men around me seem to like? SMUT - inspires everything from heavy flirtation to spontaneous reenactments of the life of the late roman emperors. (including a cast of many more than you'd think could fit on a bed ) Snake Charmer - much nuzzling from the guy who never nuzzles. Snow White -- the BF loves that innocent smell -- it makes him want to corrupt me. Storyville - impossible to get. i only have one imp and i call it "the Big Guns" now. intense. n.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

*nod*, i totally get that. the Tweedles should be tried by lovers of Mi-Go, and Yemaya by lovers of Fr00t Moon - another favorite summer scent of mine. oh, and if you like the Clinique perfume Happy, Aizen Myoo takes Happy and blows it right out of the water. YUM! even though it's not got the same notes as Mi-Go, it reminds me of Mi-Go in that "happy jingly sparkly" way. n.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

i'm a HUGE fan of Mi-Go and worry about the same thing. i can't remember all of them, but some of the new Excolos are reminiscent of Mi-Go, but now i can't remember which ones exactly. i think i felt like Yemaya had some of the same feel, and mabye Obatala? it's the pink-pepper w/fruit combo that knocks my socks off every time. *cradles stach of Mi-Go and croons softly to it* n.

    Dragon's Musk

well, i don't usually go for the Ars Draconis series, i'm not all dragony and dragon's blood and i have a tumultuous relationship -- and not just scentwise. but, the Lab gifted me with this one, and i was intrigued as i recently have been learning to love the musk. i opened up the imp and thought: Enraged Orangutang Musk! yes, that's right. and like EOM, this starts off fresh and sweet musk on my skin, and morphs into a deeper musk. it never hits the depths of Smut (a personal favorite) but where EOM is fresh and fruity, this becomes fresh and earthy if that makes sense. to me, they are very similar scents, with DM being more spicy and earthy, which is likely the addition of dragon's blood, instead of oranges and jungle greens. this is a surprisingly light blend, and it's all blended to perfection. no one thing stands out over the others. when my EOM is gone, i'll probably replace it with a bottle of this. n.

    Eat Me

how delightfully strange! i expected this from reviews to be all cake all the time, kind of like Beaver Moon. but you know what? it's not! in the imp, sure, cake is the primary ingredient, and in fact, i can catch whiffs of cake floating about me, but close to the skin? this is a light and bright currant. oh, Eat Me is all about the yum. i have several bottles of Beaver, and one of the Baits that works for me.... that ought to be enough foody ones and yet, i find myself going back and sniffing this sweet little scent over and over. it's not as SWEET as the other two. it's drier. its... its.... it's like real strawberry shortcake is! when you use real strawberries that you grew or got at the farmer's market. and fresh cake. and homemade whipped cream. i mean, it smells like currant shortcake. or something. it's good. that's all you really need to know now, don't you? n.

    Drink Me

ah, Drink Me. i always love Mad Tea Party scents as Alice in Wonderland, and THrough the Looking Glass are two of my most favorite books *ever*. Drink Me is not a scent i'll likely wear, but that's OK, because for me these scents are about re-experiencing the Alice books in a new form. and Drink Me does that perfectly. when i open it up i smell carmelized sugar, a huge stick of salted melted butter, and a whiff of toast. yes, toast. i swear to god. on me, this is all butter toffee. with a lot of butter. there's a salt that lingers in this on me. it's really pretty cool. Drink Me smells like Thanksgiving Dinner, and that's just the way i like it. this would be great for wannabe fans of Gluttony, where it just gets *too* sweet -- you can wear this. it's foody - and sweet - but also savory. color me impressed! n.

    Snake Charmer

hi, i'm a giant idiot. so, when the carnival first came to town, i was still under the impression that i did't like vanilla or musk. so, no SC for me that first time round. then i got into Snake Oil and Smut and found i loved those scents. and when the Carnival came back, i ordered one -- ONE -- Snake Charmer, because usually plum stuff goes bad on me. but Snake Charmer is more resinous on my skin than Snake Oil, with a slow fade into pure vanilla and dark musks as time passes. and i have only one bottle! well, i'm glad i have the one bottle! n. who's vowing to never make this mistake again.
