  1. In the bottle: Buttercream and light citrus

On my arm: Creamy with a wave of spice, anise perhaps and orange underneath

A really gorgeous scent with both light and dark aspects. What starts off as a creamy foody scent, becomes much more complex and unique. The anise and citrus form the perfect base for a scent unlike any other BPAL I've tried.

  2. I don't know about you ... but to me, this is Voodoo Queen's little sister. Though she's got more clove to her, the feeling is still the same rich, spicy, incense fest that is VQ. My personal favorite of the Inquisitions, Zenobia is a bold scent but has a lightness to it. It will certainly be gorgeous come fall as it has that characterist mulled wine bouquet to it. Spice lovers will go nuts for this one!

  3. AMAZING! I just adore this blend ... I can't stop smelling my arm! None of the fake chocolate of 13s past! Rich, spicy, textured ... kind of like a darker Hod or Ecstasy of Passion. Underneath is very little chocolate, which is a winner in my book, and much more of the brown sugar. I can see how this might be a disappointment for the foodie set, but I'm loving it!

  4. They're definitely the resurrected bottles and labels. I own a total of 3 bottles of Shub, all 3 have the resurrected label, 2 are golden colored oil, the other is bright red. I got an imp of Shub a while back from someone and it was also bright red, so I know this isn't a fluke. I just thought someone else out there might have noticed this pretty major difference!

  5. biz4brent, another thing I thought of is are the bottle labels the same? I would guess that the ones from the LE and GC would be different, at least saying 'Springtime' or 'Picnic' even if there are pictures that are the same.

Yeah, the labels are the same - I'll have to check next time I'm at will call which one is out. I really do prefer the golden one more, it's a little softer and more Storyville like than the red variety. They really are different scents!

  6. Shub was originally a part of a limited series called Springtime in Arkham (from memory). A few years later Beth brought back part of that series and added some new blends to it and called it A Picnic in Arkham. It is possible one bottle you have is very well aged and the other quite new. I've not tried either so someone else will have to shed more enlightenment, maybe compare some of the old reviews to the new ones and see if that helps. People who have tried both may do a bit of a comparison.

To add to that, when Shub was released as a GC, there were many who said that the newer version was more "lemony" and less spicy, however as time wore on, many of those same people came back to say that the new Shub aged into its spiciness and became more like the original release.

Hmmm, I think both my bottles are from the last year or so. But maybe not ... interesting!

  7. From what I can tell, this is a gorgeous, heavy blend of patchouli and orange. Unlike Ravenous, this scent packs more the zest of the fruit, along with cloves, spices and perhaps a trace of coffee. Rounded, this scent has a caramel flavor with a smokey earthiness brought on by the patchouli. It is a contrast brought about by the brightness of the citrus with the darkness of the overall character of the fragrance. As a patchouli lover, I knew this one was for me immediately! And if I might borrow a page from Yeahbutnobut's book ...

Try also: Ravenous, Greed, Uncertain Horror, Vixen

  8. My mom used to make Spice Tea when I was a kid (Tang, Crystal Lite Iced Tea, cloves), it was delicious. This smells exactly like that combination. Spicy and tangy!

EDIT: It was brought to my attention that this review sounds much more like the Yuletide Present spray than it does the Past. This leads me to wonder, was my bottle mislabeled?

  9. Personally, I find most of the Pumpkin Patch scents a little too feminine. The only one that really appeals to me, of course, is Pumpkin King which is much more like pumpkin pie. Its price and scarcity make it nearly impossible to find and not really a reasonable option. Have you thought about just a spicy scent like Shub or something similar?

  10. I know this has been discussed before (and I'm late to the party) but I got a chance to try Storyville today and I was shocked both at how good it is and also by how much it smells like another BPAL. The problem is ... what is it? I've browsed the thread and I honestly don't think it smells like Smut (which is all Bounce dryer sheet to me) and Shub is a little too spicy. Then I thought maybe it's Hod or Hellhound ... but those have too much clove! What is it? Its like a nice vanilla musk ... it's driving me crazy!

    HELP! :P

Was it Devil's Night? I find storyville to share some similarities with that one...

Oooh, I just thought of another that reminded me of Storyville--Wezwanie/Hold, perhaps?

Wezwanie/Hold and Devil's Night are the ones that remind me most of Storyville. Smut does to an extent, but it's more like Smut reminds me of Devil's Night which reminds me of Storyville :D Smut is on the far end of the musky scale and sometimes it's too musky for me!

I haven't smelled Wezwanie / Hold yet but Devil's Night is pretty close ...

  12. Yuletide from a couple years back, Mistletoe which was a Yule several times, then there's last year's Capricorn which is similar to quite a few of the lab's "winter" scents (Snow Moon, Wolf Moon 07, Hunger Moon etc). Try the trading post's new one from the inquisition as well, Hollyberry & Mistletoe.

I really like the Method too ... good thing its back this year! Though they didn't bring back my favorite from the past couple years, Vanilla Peppermint, although I'm really digging the Toasted Hazelnut!

  13. Wet: Bright, clean, slightly floral

Dry: The scent becomes fuller, bolder. Toad Hall is all about an open window. Its a fresh spring breeze through gauzey curtains. Its light and airy with a floral finish and a slightly fruity touch. Its both pretty and feminine.

  14. biz4brent, how does it smell? Do you have any that's more recent, that you can compare it to? (not urgent, I'm just curious...)

Its very pungent, but no I haven't had the chance to compare it with a more recent blend of Satyr, that'll certainly go on my list though. As for why I think they discontinued this style bottle, although its cute, its certainly nowhere near as secure as the newer apothecary style. Even in my little fragrance wardrobe, I'm worried it'll tip over and spill all over the place!

  15. So I swapped for a bottle of Satyr and this strange little bottle arrived at my door. Forgive me if this has been discussed a million times already (I'm pretty new), but I was wondering when it came out, was it a special edition, original bottle, etc.

    thanks

and ps- is there a gallery section of the forum that has pictures of all the bottles/labels? I thought I found one, but then last night I searched for about 30 minutes before giving up!

  16. My first review ... can you see the V on my forehead?

Well, I should let you all know that I'm a big leather lover, that's my note, deep, sexy, smooth and rich. I can't get enough of it. That said ...

This one's a real winner. Like other have stated, this is a simple, but delicious combination of two scents that were made for each other. This is a seductive scent. The day it arrived, I wore it on a first date, and the guy I was with couldn't stop smelling my neck. Now that's sexy. The leather here is softened with musk, but after about 10 minutes, its straight up hide. I had this on one wrist and Quincey on the other and after about 30 minutes, they are nearly identical.

This is one that I'm gonna stock up on - amazing!
