  1. The package has been opened by customs so that probably slowed things down a little bit.

:P Darn Customs. I hope they don't get their grubby little mitts into my order again. Last time, they left me with two half full imps! :D I'd also LOVE to get my order sooner than later...and we all know customs doesn't do ANYTHING speedily... :D :D

  2. Wow! This line sounds amazing!

    One question:

Will there be limited quantities available as well, or will one be more-or-less guaranteed a bottle if one orders within the 12 hr period? Will there be a bottles-per-person limit?

  3. Hmm. That's a toughie. Personally, I associate Autumn with earthier scents...I haven't had the chance to try any of these yet, but a few searches turned up things like:

    Belladonna

    Burial

    Djinn

    Zombi

    The Hesperides

    Ulalume

These all sound like my kind of Autumn scents.

*eyes her "to order" list :P and considers a few additions*

Also, Old Venice is, to me, Autumn in Europe. Probably not what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it! :D

  4. The CC Now 'shipped' status only means that the lab has taken the order from them.  It still has to be processed by the lab staff, which right now is perilously small.  Have faith .. it'll get there soon.  But I'd still give it two weeks before you start to worry.

    *hugs*

    *nods*

I ordered May 2, and it is being shipped out at the end of this week. I would guess that yours(emu nymph) will probably be shipped out the week after next.

Don't worry, people, it's worth the wait!

  5. Okay, here's a bit of background info:

Most of my life, I've worn "traditional" flowery perfumes. Lately, I've turned to wearing a lot of resiny/incensey scents, especially those containing Dragon's Blood(my absolute favorite single note). I tend to like sweet-ish scents, that are pervasive but not intrusive.

Now, I have always been wary of wearing foody scents. I was even hesitant to order Snake Oil due to its vanilla content, which I thought would be too foody for my tastes. :P Silly, I know. lol Anyway, I've discovered that I don't mind wearing it at all, and I get a really good response from others when I'm wearing it.

Sooo, I've decided to venture a bit further into the Gourmand category, but I want to start out light. I want something (or things, lol) either decidedly foody or just with Gourmand influences, but I don't want to smell like a restaurant kitchen or anything...too much...like that! You know what I mean? :D

I've been reading reviews like crazy, but it's oh-so-hard to decide. Anybody have any suggestions of foody scents for me to start off with?

  6. As a fellow indecisive Fish, I don't envy you your position, having to choose from so many of your fabulous creations! How many do you want to narrow it down to?

I have to second soapifying Snake Oil, of course. :P

And...I would also love Blood, Embalming Fluid, Black Phoenix, Bruja, and Psyche in soap form, but that's just from the precious few scents I've tried!

    Good luck with the narrowing!!!

  7. In the bottle: Freshly cut wood and lingering incense...I'll have to try this as a room scent one of these days.

Wet: Whew. Wood. My first thought after applying this was, "Cathedral? Not likely. More like Log Cabin!!!" :P Way too strong, to say the least.

Dry: Hmm. Once the sharp wooden scent calmed down, this actually became quite nice. Understated, a bit powdery...the melted candle wax smell that someone mentioned is certainly an apt description...it is warm, but not spicy, and...comfortable. The wood is still there, but it is in the background; nothing of the invasive presence it held during Cathedral's wet stage!

Overall, I don't think Cathedral is the right scent for me, which is unfortunate, because I so wanted to adore it for its name and description! Also, in my opinion, it definately belongs in the masculine category...while I wouldn't wear it myself, I wouldn't mind falling asleep to its warmth and subtlety. :D It would be the perfect scent for a guy(or a girl, just not this one! :D) who wants to smell good without smelling like he's actually wearing a cologne...you know? :D

  8. In the bottle: This one smells like the best lemonade ever made...pure lemonny bite with just enough sweetness to keep it from being sour...yum. Just sniffing the imp made me crave lemonade all day.

Wet: Still very lemondade-y, but more complex. Spicier, even, but without any intrusive individual notes.

Dry: Embalming Fluid dries down in distinct stages on me; there is definately a point when the lemon just...disappears. It is replaced by a pure, clean scent that I didn't quite place until I got here to review: Chilled Green Tea. I say chilled because it is definately not the kind of green tea you drink in a restaurant, with food. This tea has been poured over ice and served to you in a tall, frosty glass. It is not a cold scent, though...it maintains a warm and inviting nature throughout.

Overall: I definately agree with those who stated that Embalming Fluid is the perfect scent for a summer's day. It is calm and clean, quenching your thirst and leaving you to lounge under a parasol on the lawn, just out of the reach of a hot, sticky sun.

Edited to add: Embalming Fluid also makes a great room scent, as it is pervasive without being overbearing, and it is such a cool, clean scent.

Also, this is the only BPAL blend that I find myself actually craving at the end of the day when I don't wear it. On particularily stressful workdays, I find myself catching imaginary whiffs of it as I walk through the halls, and when I get home one of the first things I do is sit down with my BPAL stash and spend a few moments just inhaling from my 10mL of this. It is so calming and centering, it melts away all of the negativity of the day and lets me enjoy my evening.

    Beautiful.

  9. Or do you not get charged until it is ready to be shipped and I'm just being paranoid?

    Paranoia's okay here, don't worry. :P

There is currently about a three week delay(last I heard...it has been getting shorter and shorter as they catch up!) between you placing the order and it getting to the front of the queue, and your credit card is not charged until the Lab downloads the order and starts to fill it. Once it goes through on your credit card, it's usually less than a week(approx; sometimes shorter sometimes a bit longer depending on what is going on there) before it is shipped.

BPAL oils are SO worth the wait, though. You won't be dissapointed.

  10. Not sure if you have had the chance to read through (I doubt it somehow), but quite a few of us have said we would be happy for the samples not to be tied. Some prefer it that way, others would prefer this to be a temporary, emergency measure. Would it help if we confirmed our preference when ordering???

(imp tie discussion here, in case you've not seen it)

Thanks for the update, Brian! We are all glad to hear that you guys are at least on your *way* back to sanity again!

You guys kick butt! And so does your mom! :P :D

  11. I'm wondering though, since the vials are so small, if sticking labels on them would really be easier.  Particularly in cases of scents with longer names (i.e. sacred whore of babylon, la belle dame sans merci, etc.)Someone would have to design new labels and find/cut ones small enough to fit.

What about using the same sized label, or even the exact same label as those in use now, with an edge glued to the bottle? Like a post-it, but stronger? It would speed up the process, and it would retain a bit of the original look. It also wouldn't add to the material cost to the lab...

  12. For those of you eagerly awaiting orders, especially first time orderers, I would just like to offer some words of encouragement:

Be patient! It may sound silly, but your perfumes will arrive when the Universe deems it the right time for you to have them. Trust me, BPAL is worth it! It is hard, I know, but really, you will not be dissapointed in the end!

I waited just over a month for my order, which was my very first order with BPAL. It arrived yesterday, smelling wonderful. I am sitting here, in my basement, sniffing my wrists (BLOODLUST! Mmmm...) after every sentence I type. Yum.

For perfumes of this quality, I would be willing to wait two...three...six months, because my patience would be so well rewarded. Of course, I hope it doesn't come to that, but you wouldn't hear a peep of a complaint from me if it did.

  13. A fiery Martial blend that embodies primal rage, lust for conquest, and all-encompassing desire. Dragon's blood essence, heavy red musk, Indonesian patchouli and swarthy vetiver with a drop of cinnamon.

In the bottle: Mmm...dragon's blood. There is a darkness here, too, but I can't pick out any other notes.

Wet: I still smell dragon's blood prominently, but I also get the impression of marischino cherries (even though there isn't a cherry component to this blend). Odd, but still okay.

Dry: Wow. I can't really pick out any individual notes anymore, but let me tell you, the Darkness has come out to play. Not at all foody anymore, Bloodlust has turned into a heavy, dark, spicy, resiny, hot presence on my skin. SO good. It makes me want to bite something. :P

Overall: This is SUCH a fabulous scent. I cannot get enough of it! Since the first draft of this review, I've invested in a larger bottle and I wear it whenever I need to feel strong and empowered. Amazing.

  14. In the bottle: Quite honestly, I really disliked Glasya on first sniff. I think it was the ylang-ylang coming out in full force(I'm not exactly a ylang-ylang fan!)...it was waaaay too much for me.

Wet: Still very ylang-ylang-y, although not as bad as before. I don't know *exactly* what myrrh, civet, and the musks smell like (I'm only mildly aquainted with white musk, not at all with red or black) but some combination of them must be coming out a bit now, because the ylang-ylang is receeding. I don't smell any dragon's blood or rose whatsoever.

Dry: Ahh. The ylang-ylang issue seems to be entirely over now...I still can't pick out any dragon's blood or rose, but the overall scent is quite nice. It reminds me a lot of a more "traditional" perfume---nothing specific, but the "feel" of it is quite similar...it's like all of the things I like about the "heavier" over-the-counter scents, but none of the chemical harshness. It is a warm, comfortable scent.

In the end, I don't think Glasya is the scent for me. I'll try it at least once more, though, as I do like it, but I think I will end up giving this one to my mother, who absolutely adores it! :P

  15. Okay, somebody please explain Paypal to me.  I'm flipping out cuz I don't know anything about it and I don't have it.  When I mentioned it to my hubby in the past, he said something about identity theft and that I wasn't going to use it!!  Anyway, would someone kindly explain how it works?

Also, Question for Beth............Will you take a personal check if I don't use Paypal?

I also do not use or want to use Paypal, but have no fear, Beth still has us covered!

    From the FAQ:

Can I pay by check or money order?

Yes, you certainly may. Please keep in mind, however, that we will not process any order until the money clears.

Please make all checks and money orders out to:

  16. i ordered mine on 03-19 and beth e-mailed me that it went out 04-08 and i still havent gotten my order. i  just dont know what to say or do anymore and my postal carrier made it worse by saying i should have rec. it yesterday[.

Don't worry about it yet. It's only been in transit for two business days tops, including today. If it went out on the 8th, then it likely didn't move all weekend (good friday, easter weekend), and it may or may not have moved much yesterday either, depending on if the postal office(s) it went through gave a lot of it's people easter monday off...you know what I mean?

If it's not there in a few more days, THEN start to worry.
