If I pay with a money order

If you are buying LE's, I would contact Nella (answers at blackphoenixalchemylab dot com) to let her know that you are sending a money order, and which oils you are sending for, but you must also enclose a list with the money order.

How much does it cost to ship internationally?

Hey Chin, you know you can subscribe to threads, so that you can see them when you click on your user control panel? That way you don't need to keep track of where they sink to in order to refer to them constantly.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

Ha! So you did! I totally forgot about that conversation. In any case, I do think you are right about 'mh'. I was on crack about it being a glottalic. I still haven't found my notes, though. I think that there is something there about glottalics, I just can't for the life of me remember what at the moment. My brain is so fried...too much damn studying!

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

I just had a mild epiphany, but I could be wrong...does anyone know if the intervocalic consonant in Samhain is a voiced bilabial fricative? That would make SO much sense, in my mind...
  5. ...I just tried layering Perversion and Sweet Clove...it's quite a nice leather-and-clovey scent, though I've never actually smelled clove cigarettes, so I can't guarantee that one, but this is certainly a combo I'm going to wear again, so thanks for the inspiration!

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Ugh. I'd bet nickels to dimes that my Formula 54 is in that pile. I'm glad I didn't panic and email the Lab about it! I hope it has fun in Vancouver, and gets to me eventually

    Scent for Halloween?

I will wear either Bloodlust or Red Moon, or possibly my beloved Chaos Theory, depending on my costume, which I've yet to decide on.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

Ha! You're an optimist. I mean...*cough* If the Lab had any say about it, you'd have your oil on time. Unfortunately, our lovely Customs officers have been known to sit on packages for weeks on end for no good reason at all. So, you can expect six to eight weeks between order and delivery, depending on the friendliness of your package's border crossing.

    Dilution and Carrier Oils

Pretty much not at all. I haven't tried Apricot or Peanut as carriers, but jojoba, avacado, coconut, etcetera don't have a scent that I am able to detect.

    Dilution and Carrier Oils

Here is the Lab's selection of carrier oils. There is another thread about this, too...I'll see if I can dig it up.

Will the lab put products on 'Hold'

Emailing Nella is always the better bet than emailing Beth for things like this, and Nella will take care of you if anyone can! I put June Gloom on hold with her help back when Paypal was giving me crap.

    Old-fashioned yet modern?

I really like Black Rose...it is very traditional, but it has a sweetness and an edge that make it unlike traditional perfumes... Also, since you liked Harlot, you might be interested in other rose blends, such as Jezebel, Psyche, Rapture, or Wanda, all of which are utterly gorgeous spins on the traditional rose base.

    Info about combining orders?

I don't know for sure, but it would make sense if one person is filling both of your orders, that they might notice and be inclined to combine 'em. On the flip side, if, say, Nella fills one of your orders and Vlad fills the other, they probably won't be combined. That's just my guess, though.
  16. Usually about a day, unless you email on a friday, saturday, or sunday, in which case it is usually replied to by Monday or Tuesday.

    Siren

I bought this for a friend of mine, so I really haven't had the chance to fully test-drive this blend, but I really can't abide by Siren. It smells good on her, but in the bottle and on me, the ginger/jasmine combination is incredibly...off...to my nose. I think I have bad ginger memory associations, or something, because it is not an unpleasant scent, it is just makes me want to run and hide. Very odd, but interesting nonetheless.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

I'd actually have to go through my notes (which aren't with me at the moment) to be sure, but I think the bh and mh are actually glottalics, and that the contrasts that English speaking ears perceive are not exactly what they are to Gaelic speaking ears, due to our inability to perceive subtle differences in VOT... [edited to add that I was on crack when I posted this...I don't think 'mh' is glottalic; I do agree that it is probably a voiced bilabial fricative, though at the moment I'm not convinced that 'bh' is. ]

    Gift Certificates?

[merged with the original gc thread] Edited to add: Patience is a virtue, violetblue! Also, if your PM box is overfull, you could always copy your saved messages into a Word document to free up space.

    CCNow Questions & Problems

Yup, you're okay. I think CCNow is still *supposed* to be giving you a box to fill in your choices, I'm really not surprised that it isn't. In retrospect, I think I'm actually glad that the Lab can't accept Canadian orders through CCNow anymore. Paypal really is SO much less hassle!
  21. [Moved topic to Recommendations forum] Hmm...I'm going to have to start wearing Scherezade out more often! So far, I've received the coveted male attention whilst wearing Snake Oil, Red Devil, Red Moon, O, Perversion, and my Chaos Theory, XLI.

    Arkham

I have to second Alice Aforethought's review here, as she described Arkham very well. This is a lovely, complex lemon scent with an unusually fresh bite. It doesn't remind me of Shadow in the least, though...it is crisper, and brighter. I don't detect any of the lavender outright, but its light, clean feel is present...Very nice.
  23. I've not had the chance to try it yet, but Dragon's Heart sounds similar in "mood" to Red Moon. Dragon's Bone smells similar, but is drier and less sweet. Personally, I think (with my chemistry, anyway) Dragon's Bone layered with single note Chamomile and Orange would come out smelling very similar to Red Moon. Other scents I found by searching Red Moon's notes that might work (especially in some combination of layering with Dragon's Blood) are Cancer and Hunger.

    Rakshasa

In the bottle and wet on my skin: Some of Beth's blends smell so good, I just want to drink them. This is one of them. The rose isn't like Beth's other roses...it is jucier, and at the same time it is kept from leaping out and assaulting my nose the way some roses do by Rakshasa's other components. Those who were reminded of absolutely delectable teas by this blend were right on the money; it smells rich, full-bodied, and just sweet enough to satisfy. Dry and overall: Sadly, on my skin, the sandalwood takes over almost very quickly. Now, it is probably the nicest sandalwood I've ever sniffed---with hints of rose around the edges and depth-infusing patchouli supporting it from beneath---but I'm not really a fan of sandalwood. It is not a dry scent, per se...it is airy, and light, and still wet enough to be wearable, it's just not for me. If one liked sandalwood, or if one's chemistry allowed the initial notes to stay, this would be a very beautiful blend.

    Cinnamon girl...

Yes, the Sweet Clove is incredible. I'm playing with layering it right now, but it is entirely glorious enough to wear on its own!
