    More on the Canada Stuff...

I always look for a catch with everything. Probably comes from dad drilling it into my head that you must always read the fine print on things, so you don't get walloped with stuff you weren't expecting months after the fact. Sound advice that's kept me from doing many, many stupid things with signing stuff over the years. It does seem like this'll be pretty straightfoward when it comes right down to it. I'll have to go up for awhile to find employment, get letters and such written, do whatever medical examinations I may need to go through (doubt I'll need one), get my criminal history check done which won't be much of an issue (oh yay, I had a traffic ticket a few years ago), submit everything with my application, and wait. Which means I am going to apply for a temp. visitor visa just to keep my ass from dangling out during the entire process, in case there's some kind of delay. This'll also keep it simple as far as not having to rush around all over God's green to find an apartment within something like a week of me starting work. If I time it right, I'll be able to get residence stuff straightened out before starting a job. I think. I hope. I also need to check all the regulations as far as bringing pets over the border. If I'm recalling correctly, I just need a vet check before we leave, and a record of their rabies shots to prove it out at the border that they're healthy. But, again, just in case and all that. At the same time, I've got to pace myself with things. I'm not going to be able to move until after I finish my course and get a job down here, so I have to stop this dance of freaking out over all of it now, and remind myself that this won't happen for at least a year. Yeeeesh.

    More on the Canada Stuff...

Oh no, I don't mind at all! I think the biggest problem I'm having with the paperwork at this point is that it looks a little too straightfoward to me in some regards. I keep looking for the catch that'll come around to bite me on the ass. I hadn't even considered seeking out a lawyer to help out with anything. Honestly, I'm surprised I got past my little moment of panic about whether or not I could work as a vet assistant in Canada that crept up over me earlier. All the immigration stuff I saw regarding skilled workers only had notations for veterinarians or vet techs. Google searching found me info on vet assistant programs at a bunch of universities up there, so I'm guessing I'm okay. I just don't know where to start with half of it. Course, I think part of that has to do with the whole not quite having my brain past the squeeing stage regarding getting married.

    Oh Ehm Gee!

I figured since I have something momentous and happy to write about, I'd finally start a blog over here. So, here it goes. I'm getting married! EEEEEEEEE!!!!! *ahem* Not only that, but I'm moving to Ontario, likely at the end of next summer. I have school to finish, and some other stuff I need to do as far as finding a job and saving money, so I really need to get my backside in gear with things and make this happen. What we're considering right now is her coming down to visit in the spring, so we can have the civil ceremony then. It'll cost less down here, for one thing, which is why it appeals so much. It'll be around that time that I'll hopefully just be finding a job, so then I'll have the ability to grab up the funds for application fees. I'm going for permanent residence status, as far as how it's looking right now. Which means I have a ton of stuff I need to read through, and figure out. I've probably also got a ton of calls to make to ask questions, and...gaaaaaah. It's going to make me crazy, but it'll be so worth it. The really funny thing? She asked me four times about three years ago if I'd marry her. I kept saying no, because we weren't in a good spot to even remotely consider the idea. I still have the ring she bought me with the intended purpose of proposing, and I never take it off unless I'm having x-rays done or something along those lines. It's a nice Celtic knotwork band that we got at a mall kiosk. We wound up laughing about this over the phone the other night, since that's one less thing we really have to worry about. But. Yeah. I'm getting MARRIED, to an absolutely amazing woman that I've known and been with for five years, give or take. I keep alternating between feeling a bit shocked, and being so giddy that all I want to do is skip around the house like I'm six.

    The Caterpillar

Wet: Vetiver and moss. Very medicinal and sharp. Dry: It went herbal, with the jasmine warring to get out around it. Very strong, and very sharp. I'm starting to learn that my skin amps up jasmine like there's no tomorrow, so this isn't for me, either. Bleh.

    Vicomte de Valmont

Wet: Musk and mint. Oooooh, this is very promising. Dry: Musk and jasmine. The jasmine took over the entire blend after about ten minutes, and proceeded to give me a headache. Some of the mint peeked through before I went to wash it off, but it wasn't enough to convince me that this is a blend for me. Sad, too, since it was otherwise quite nice while wet.

    Lampades

Wet: This is weird. I'm getting some kind of cranberry scent that smells like it's mixed with cherry, but there's no cherry in here. Strange. I'm also picking up menthol. Hrm. Dry: Okay. Apparently, my skin doesn't like this blend very much. What could have had potential to turn into a nice cranberry scent with lily behind it wound up going somewhere else entirely. The menthol smell was still there, which I'm guessing is a result of the cranberry and ginger mixing together. Definitely not a keeper for me, as it's just too sharp and strong.

    Aeval

Wet: Watermelon. Don't ask. I can't explain it. I know it's the sweet pea and the musk combo doing this, though, as sweet pea has always been known to morph into weird things on my skin. Dry: Where did it go? I can barely smell it. I do get a light tinge of musk every so often, followed up with that weird watermelon sweet pea morph that I can't explain. My skin completely ate this, which is a disappointment, since I really liked it.

    Bad Luck Woman Blues

Wet: Caramel and cigar smoke. Not too bad, just very, very strong. Dry: I could finally smell a little hint of moss once this dried down. Otherwise, it was a vague whiff of the tobacco, and caramel dominating over all else. It became very heady, but the caramel just overpowered everything a bit too much for my tastes.

    Leanan Sidhe

In the imp: Smells a bit like a really herbal men's cologne. Not something you'd find every day. Wet on skin: Cotton and lemon, with some kind of airy thing behind it. I can't quite place it beyond that. Dry on skin: It's gone from airy cotton with lemon to some underpowered version of Irish Spring. Odd. Wasn't expecting that. All in all, it's just not for me.

    Baneberry

In the imp: Apples? Huh? Wasn't expecting that. Wet on skin: Still smells like apples, though more of a sour variety. Possibly granny smith, though not quite as sharp. There's a hint of an aquatic something drifting around. Maybe dew? It's soft enough. Dry on skin: The dew is still there. The sour apple is still there. However, now there's something that smells like sharp raspberries. Not quite ripe ones. It's a rather interesting mix. This may be a potential bottle purchase. I'll have to wear it again to be sure.

In the bottle: It smells like ginger. I get nothing aside from soaked ginger. Not that this is bad, just a little unnerving at first, since I'm not a gigantic ginger fan on a whole. Wet on skin: Oooh, there's the pepper. I can still get the ginger, but it's mostly all pepper. Dry on skin: Within about five minutes, this had become a rather complex scent on my skin. The ginger? Totally gone. I have no idea where it went, but godspeed to it. The dragon's blood has come up and kicked me in the face, along with a faint hint of the pepper. Amid this somewhere is the honeysuckle, with a faint hint of something vanilla-ish behind it that doesn't hang around long. Just comes and goes as it pleases. Overall impression: Oh. My. God. I need more of this.

In the bottle: Cough syrup. Really strong, knock you on your ass cough syrup. I am wary. Wet on skin: Still smells like cough syrup. Not promising. Dry on skin: Ylang ylang, and lots of it. This is nice. Until it gets overtaken with hints of shampoo, and cough syrup. I don't get why this didn't work too well on me. I had high hopes for it, but I just can't get past the wafts of medication and hair products. Otherwise, it would've been lovely.

    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

I absolutely love this scent. In the imp: Myrrh. Absolutely nothing but myrrh. It's very strong, and almost enough to make me flinch back from it upon a first sniff. On skin, wet: Now I can smell the cinnamon and a bit of the smoke. Still very strong, but this is most certainly not a bad thing. On skin, dry: The myrrh and smoke have settled down to something of a blend between light powder and ashes, depending on what kind of waft I'm getting from my hand. The cinnamon is there, smelling rather spicy and sweet at the same time. This is a definite keeper. Once I have the funds to do more than get a decant, I'll be going for a bottle or two.

    Western Diamondback

Hrm. This one, I'm not too sure on. In the decant: Smells like vanilla and sage. On skin, wet: I can sort of smell the leather, now. Kind of? It's not very strong. On skin, dry: This did something really odd once it dried down. Instead of becoming a wonderful blend of scents, it turned into something antiseptic. I had to mash my nose down against my skin to pick up anything aside from that, and even then, it was barely anything at all. Disappointing, as I was really looking forward to this one. I'll probably try it again in a day or two, in the hopes that this was just a really awkward skin chemistry day.

    Berenice

This is another one of those "I had such hope" scents, though for an entirely different reason than usual. It did something funky where it made my skin dry out. Strange. Wet: All I could smell in the bottle were hints of musk and amber. It stayed this way until drydown, which was when that dried out skin issue started up. Dry: Lily, musk, and clean cotton sheets. Definitely not a combination I mind smelling on any given day. Every so often, the lily did come up and slap me in the face, but inevitably, it wound up taking a back seat to the musk. Very pleasant scent all across. Just wish it didn't do weird things on my person.

    Lenore

I got a partial bottle awhile back, and just decided to give it a try tonight, finally. Wet: I got a very strong musky smell that was absolutely overpowering. So much so that it made the back of my throat go dry. Never had that happen before. Dry: On skin, it just didn't change very much. I was hoping it'd be a nice combination of the vetiver, patchouli, plum, and lemon. Instead, I got thyme and patchouli. Lots of thyme, actually. I was hoping this would work on me from the description, but unfortunately, it didn't. Argh.

    Dragon's Heart

In the vial: A really heady fruity musky scent. Makes my head spin in a good way. Wet: More of the same, though it's not quite as all-encompassing and sense overpowering. It does, however, make me want to glue my nose to my wrist. Smelling alot of what could be the fig and the currant over the musk. Dry: It's turned to something powdery and warm. Not a bad thing, by any means. Everything lightened to a nice combination of fruit and musk, over the powder, over a thin layer of dragon's blood. Now I definitely want to glue my nose to my skin. Can't stop sniffing my wrist. This is a definite 5ml purchase somewhere down the line. Love it.

    Blood Kiss

In the vial: Cherry. All I can smell is cherry, to the point where it almost knocked me over when I opened the imp. Wet: Still alot of cherry, though there's a faint hint of something else under it. That something else is turning things a smidge sour. Dry: I think what I'm smelling is the poppy. I don't know why my body chemistry decided that was the note that needed to be prominent, but it did. Sadly, I had to wash it off quickly. All in all, it's just not for me. Which makes me sad, since it looked like something I'd enjoy.

    Somnus

My first review, so please bear with me. In the Imp: Lavendar. Very strong, as lavendar tends to be. I was slightly iffy at first due to this lone fact. Wet on skin: Softens quite a bit. All I could smell was the lavendar, though it became much more pleasing to the nose. Dry: It became so soft I could barely tell it was even on my skin at this point. This caused me to get up and reapply. Within about ten minutes after the fest of putting it on, I was out cold. For the first time in a week, I got six hours of solid sleep, despite my insomnia, without the aid of taking something that would knock me out somehow. This gets a huge thumbs up from me.
