    Love-Lies-Bleeding

Definitely echoing what the others have said in regards to this being a foody-floral. This immediately does bring to mind chocolate and roses, although the floral scent really isn't that of a rose, this is too fresh and light to be rose (which always overpowers everything else on my skin). But that's exactly the impression I get - Valentine's Day, as someone else noted! The box of expensive dark chocolates wrapped in a red velvet ribbon, the bouquet of lush red flowers, maybe even a hint of the lovely lady's perfume or a waft of the deeply colored wine she's drinking. It's all mixed together and the overall vibe is sumptuous, mysterious, lush, velvety... Very seductive, not something that screams HELLO I SMELL LIKE A FLOWER. It melds with your skin and makes it seem like you smell like this naturally; it's a "warm" floral. It's very odd and isn't as fresh or straightforward a floral as the other Rappacini's Garden scents (especially noticeable to me because I'm wearing this on one arm and Sundew on the other). I would put this in Love Potions if anything, it's got that kinda "feel" to it. Definitely one to wear for romancing your SO (or SO to be).

    Black Moon

This went crazy on my skin. I was hoping for something rich and lush and over the top sensual, and instead I ended up with the scent equivalent of a pina colada--this seriously goes to coconut on me. In fact, it smells exactly like Black Pearl does on me. And that is one scent I can't stand! The combination of iris and coconut and hazelnut in that scent produces an odd tropical floral scent that makes me feel unsettled. And Black Moon smells JUST like that on me. No cucumber, no crystal musk, no black orchid, no motia attar. Booo to my skin making a potentially wonderful scent go nuts on me. I am selling this pronto. ETA: this totally changed in the several months I forgot about it on my dresser. Now it smells like a lush, watery jasmine scent with just the tiniest hint of pear. Not at all fruity, but the pear adds some sweetness. It never goes rank and foul like every other BPAL jasmine I've ever tried, and it smells so classy and elegant! Would be perfect with a black dress and glittering jewelry or pearls. The scent seems to not fit any color, but rather is sparkling and bright like a clear gemstone when it catches light.

    F5

This strikes me as decidedly masculine, in that delicious just-showered-lover smell it has. It's very fresh and starts off on my skin as a bit of lime and then it turns into a slightly soapy scent that I can't really describe the notes of. It's definitely got a pale blue-green vibe to it and I am going to give it to my SO in the hopes that maybe this will be the BPAL that he'll actually wear. ETA: forget the SO! I kept this for myself. it's the ultimate in cleaaaaaaan smelling. over time it transformed into a crisp watery green tea scent. it'd be perfect as a professional work fragrance, also, because it isn't recognizeable as perfume. it just smells fresh and clean and non-sweet. it almost has a fresh salty ocean air vibe to it.

    Honey and Beeswax scents

I agree with Khajuraho and Osun and Tiger Lily. All light, non-powdery honey scents. O went to baby powder on me, and Honey Moon went kind of gross because of the jasmine.

    The Candy Butcher 2006

I was making toffee this morning and this smells like that whole process. I put this on and I smell creamy sugar heating up, I smell something rich and as smooth as butter, and then I get almonds, just like I did this morning! It's the smell of warm almonds whipped into rich molten sugary butter goodness. And then it starts to smell like roasted, caramelized almond butter. Whaaat? I get no cocoa, no chocolate, no heavy undercurrent of cream...just a rather odd smell of thick, creamy almond butter. The kind that's fresh and rich and delicious and expensive. I'm still hoping for chocolate of some kind. This doesn't smell anything like Lump of Coal or Vice or Velvet on me, all of which had recognizeable "chocolate" notes. I'm really very confused by it. But I like it all the same. Maybe I should try Bliss to compare it. ETA: Well, Bliss turned out to be much better. Candy Butcher never stopped being a creamy unsalted, non-marzipan almond butter scent, so I sold it.

    Desert scents, including Southwestern scents

How about Dia de Los Muertos? The Halloween update just went live so you can order it or join a decant circle somewhere for it, it has floral notes but most people report the cactus/cocoa/desert-y aspect of it as standing out.

    Eat Me

Yum, it is cakey and vanilla-y and I can smell the currants, it reminds me very much of Monster Bait: Closet. Has a bit of spice, too, like cinnamon? I like Eat Me and it is pretty strong, has lots of throw. People around me seem to like it too--"who smells so good?"

    Tweedledum

Far too light. I smelled a brief note of mango and something sweet (oddly, didn't notice any patchouli at all, and that is a note that really hates me and generally amps itself way up). And then it is rapidly fading, fading, and I'm left with a mild sweetness on my wrist that can't be described as either fruity or foody or herbal or anything, it's just...sweet. I'm pretty indifferent on Tweedledum, maybe Tweedledee will be better.

    Absinthe

Wow! I really don't like the taste of anise, but it smells so good on as a perfume. I get a bit of mint, a lot of anise and something citrusy, reminds me very much of a licorice-spiked Detox. I'm kind of kicking myself for buying a big bottle of Detox when I could've gotten this for much less, it is more complex than Detox because of the added notes, and just as refreshing and, dare I say it, zingy!

    Lump of Coal

Smelled deliciously warm and chocolatey, my 10 year old sister correctly identified it from one sniff as brownie smell. Unfortunately, it then went to something strange and plastic-y. Like a chocolate scratch and sniff sticker. Off to the swaps it goes. Hopefully my big bottle of Candy Butcher will be the chocolate scent of my dreams, what with the cream. I think my foody scents need to be pretty creamy to work on me.

    Middle Eastern/Indian edible scent

Hey, that finally happened for me this time with Candy Butcher! Woohoo! Woohoo! Now let's hope it doesn't go to plastic on me. I would cry.

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2006

I have no idea what I'm smelling here. It smells very skin-scent-y, like what I'd imagine those "suede" type scents to smell like. I can kind of smell something like grapefruit, but it's blended with vanilla or sandalwood or whatever, so it makes me think of the color off-white. It reminds me of Antique Lace in its lightness, yet it has equally long lasting power and a decent amount of throw for such a warm, light scent. ETA: I know what this smells like now. It smells like gummi bears! Creamy, delicious gummi bears for adults. I liked it, but eventually sold it because I simply didn't have the desire to smell like gummi bears all that frequently.

    Gypsy Queen

Like Alice but all grown up and so much sexier. Which is fortunate for me because I only like Alice when it's aged and my boyfriend's ex-girlfriend is named Alice and I despise having to wear her her name, bleh. But yes. Gypsy Queen. Delicious. It's soft and warm and alluring and exactly what I would imagine a gypsy to smell like! Think Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame, the DIsney cartoon! So beautiful, but not too incens-y, headshopp-y, etc. I'm definitely going to hunt down a bottle.
  14. Ozymandias has a similar classic-perfume smell. Plus, it's GC so it's super easy to get a hold of.

    Eris

In the imp: Mmm, fruity! Like little kid fruit, something very red and pink and orange. In my hair: Holy crap! Literally, ho-lee-crap. There has GOT to be jasmine or something in this, because it immediately went almost fecal on my skin. Bleh! Off to the swaps it goes. --the worst part of this scent experience was my unfortunate choice of putting it in my hair 10 minutes before work. I can't even wash it off....maybe I'll try and cover it up with something not so poopy smelling.
  16. Anyone mentioned Snake Oil and Snake Charmer? Those were what immediately jumped out at me when bellydancing was mentioned. Basically all BPALers know what Snake Oil smells like, and Snake Charmer is like a lighter, slightly more fruity version of that. If you hate musk, you'll have to wait out the initial blast of Arabian musk for Snake Charmer, but it lasts all of 5 mins on me and leaves a lovely exotic scent behind. Es[ecially if you wear it in your hair--then the musk is poof! on me. And since CN came back into town a little while back, it's not too hard to find.

Hippiesh, spicy, musky scents - without patchouli

Snake Oil has patchouli in it? Whooooa. Patchouli is my arch-nemesis in perfume and I didn't even notice it! Anyways, as per your question....Snake Charmer, it smells very very similar to Snake Oil but it's a bit lighter, has a touch of fruit and a bit more musk. Since the lab did a Carnival Noir re-release, it's not as hard to find as it used to be.
  18. -Monster Bait: Underpants has gotten good responses (but it's fairly difficult to find, so...) Also, Szepasszony, Antique Lace, and Kumiho. If you live somewhere very warm I'd stay away from the resin-y, incensey blends just because they tend to have throw like whoa. My advice would be to wear whatever makes you feel the most confident and comfortable. Even the night-time only type scents (I'm guessing you meant some of the more sensual/overtly dark or sexy ones) can be used during the day, btw, especially if you have a scent locket or have mastered the art of applying to your hair in minute amounts.

    Pink Moon 2005

Better than Pink Phoenix (that one goes on a little rough around the edges). Pink Moon reminds me of cotton candy, though it doesn't smell like it. It's very soft and girly without being Barbie-esque. If I could find more of it, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

    Milk Moon 2005

I was SO looking forward to this. It's hard to find and I managed to score a decant for only $6. I anticipated something like warm milk and honey, something creamy and soft and smooth and light. And all I got was... butter. Yes, butter, you snuck in under the radar and managed to ruin one of the best-sounding lunacy oils ever! I don't know whether to thank you, butter, because although you ruined my hopes for this gorgeous sounding creation, at least now I won't have to sabotage my savings account in search of a bottle. So, yeah. Milk Moon was a no-go for me. I tried Obatala and liked it much better, not so heavy or buttery. If I could try Chaste Moon, I think I'd like that better.

    Voodoo

A midnight scent, evoking images of flickering golden firelight reflecting off the sheen of glistening skin and the jerking shadows of bodies suffused with spiritual ecstasy. A deep, powerful, resonant blend of myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove. The notes are "myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove", so how in the WORLD is it possible that all that translates into Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper? How?! Because just like everyone else said, it really does smell like those sodas. I was shocked when I smelled it. And I loooooooove the smell of Dr.Pepper, although I despise drinking the stuff. Voodoo is not foody, not woodsy, not spicy, not resin-y...it's a combination of all of those, and you end up with a smooth soda scent. If Voodoo could be translated into an object of some kind, it'd be a high collared, skinny-sleeved, long dark red velvet jacket with a satin lining. You'd have to have the right style to wear it, whether you're a man or a woman, but when it works, ohhhhh....it works. Voodoo doesn't quite work on my skin but I am using it in a scent locket to fragrance my car. I feel like I'm driving a sexy car now, even though it's a '92 Toyota stationwagon. The voodoo you do, Voodoo, indeed!

    Blinding Glory of Love

I get roses and mint too. And some kind of musk as well, something that makes it warm up on my skin. As soon as I opened my decant of it, I immediately thought "this smells...opulent." Those exact words. It brings to mind a dark Kama Sutra-esque bedroom flickering with candlelight, a room with dark shimmering fabric on the walls and saris draped across the bed. The room's filled with the faint smell of people loving each other and faded incensey smoke, all wrapped up in the scent of some kind of rose-flavored dessert the lovers were feeding each other by hand, and maybe a drop or two of the flavored tobacco they'll be smoking together afterwards. I swear, that's what I get for being a Desi girl! Always brings things like this to mind. It does seem to bring out a nice reaction in my boytoy. He generally dislikes any BPAL that isn't "fresh", but cuddled right up to me while I was wearing this. I take that as a good sign, since he's notoriously anti-cuddling.

    Detox

Ahh delicious! This is pure, slightly sweetened, lime-y goodness that goes zing! when you smell it. Like Tarot: The Star without the mint and coconut (obviously). This is wonderful stuff, and if I was able to actually afford more BPAL I'd buy a 5ml and slather it on everyday. It's crisp, fresh, fruity without being a cloying sticky sweet syrupy type of scent, and excellent for waking you up and refreshing the senses.

    Strawberry Moon 2005

This stuff smells very simple and sweet. And I LOVE it. It's like strawberries that aren't too sweet. Like Bon Vivant minus the champagne, obviously. Plus there's a tiny bit of creaminess that makes this even better. I thankfully don't get any lotus, ylang ylang, sage or green tea. Just strawberry goodness. I am sad this is such a hard to find LE.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

I get all the notes, but the saffron bit (the part I don't recognize, basically) is taking over, and it's not too pleasant. There's a bit of vanilla and sandalwood, but it's being smothered by this soft, fluffy sweet-spice. I want buttery vanilla cream, dammit. Then again, it is that time of the month, so I'm hoping my skin will go back to normal in a couple days and I will fall in love with Underpants. ETA: Ok, now it smells like the love child of Elegba and Scherezade. This I can live with.
