  1. A glowing red and flickering scent: warm, lurid, seductive.

Another scent from Carnaval Noir - I got an imp of this, but I haven't tried it again yet (I did swipe my wrist yesterday but I had about 50 other scents on my hand & arm, so it's hard to remember much about any individual scent). Plus I am crap at identifying notes. So this is not so much a "review" as a starting point for discussion. I will come back and post more in a little bit.

Anyway, I got a pretty, slightly perfume-y floral, kind of along the lines of Endymion or Zephyr. Kind of ironic with a name like Fire Eater. :P

Lovely but I don't think it's my type.

ETA I tried it again yesterday, and wet on me it was citrus/clean, then eventually dried down to floral.

  2. Gloriously innocent and guileless: pure buttered popcorn!

Upcoming - going to be released on Weds as part of the Carnaval Noir series. The NYC Tea Party got a sneak preview in the form of a bottle passed around when Beth was there.

Pure. Buttered. Popcorn. Some people said they got a caramel whiff from it as well, but I got nothing but buttery popcorn. Delicious, and the tiniest bit sickening. Very foody. I liked it, but I can't see myself wearing it as a perfume.

  3. I got sweet cinnamon-citrusy yum as far as the scent is concerned.

As far as the magic properties are concerned, I read here about how to dress my wallet and money (since I need to buy some more ritual tapers, the ones I have are old and ill-suited). I did it this morning while looking at the bills (concentrating on the presidents' faces and mentally instructing them to bring me more money). The first thing I happened to spend any of the dressed bills on was a cup of coffee. Cost: $1.47 (overpriced, I know, and not even Starbucks). I gave the cashier: $5. She gave me: $3.78.

I didn't notice until I was back at my desk. I probably should have given it back but that place overcharges SO MUCH for every single thing that I feel no remorse (and I ate there daily for years at $6.95 a sandwich). I also forgot about the part of the spell where you only spend the trained money on things to help further your career. Unfortunately I don't really feel like I have much of a "career" per se, but I'll try to think of something.

ETA - thanks to Macha for pointing out my typo - I was supposed to get back $3.53 and she gave me an extra quarter thus $3.78, not $2.78 as I originally put.

  4. In retrospect I don't know why I bid on Spooky on that auction - I must not have read the description, because I don't really like coconut. But when it got here I was still psyched to try it out, because if there's anything I've learned from BPAL, it's that keeping an open mind really pays off.

In the bottle: 95% coconut with a teensy hint of mint & chocolate.

Wet: REALLY strong coconut and rum, like a Pina Colada. Thankfully I did not get the sickeningly sweet fake smell of Malibu, which really makes me feel ill.

Dry: Creamy coconut/vanilla. I never got any chocolate or mint on my skin. Still smelled very Pina Colada-like for the first 5 hours. It was much nicer than I thought it'd be, given that I kind of hate coconut, but in the end it's not for me. Off it goes to a new loving home.

  5. Draws influential, powerful people into your life. Helps make your wishes and desires into a reality.

OMG I love this.. love love love!!! :D :D

The BF didn't like it because at first it did smell like cinnamon/clove (he HATES cinnamon with a burning fiery passion - heh), and I definitely got the vaguely metallic aspect and something almost boozy about it too, but I couldn't stop smelling my hand during the wet phase. I put it on a few hours before I went to bed, and in the middle of the night I woke up with the most delicious sweet powder/cake/floral YUM wafting up into my nose, I could hardly stand it!

I want to eat whatever this smells like - agree it's a lot like Must de Cartier, which is the only commercial fragrance I've ever liked.

Can't wait to see the voodoo effects! And even if it has none on me, I will definitely wear this as a 'normal' perfume. This definitely goes on my short list of "big bottle wants"! Why, oh why was it discontinued?

:D French Creole and want to have a million of your babies. :P :D

ETA the BF calls this "French Hoor" - hee

Added 11/4: Now that I've smelled the Sweet Clove single note, I think the wet note in FC is almost pure Sweet Clove, plus maybe some booze. Still love it to death. Don't think I've noticed any voodoo effects, but when it smells this good, who cares?

  6. I get pure suntan lotion, both in the imp and on me. Not the fake coconut Hawaiian Tropic kind, more like cocoa butter. It's not bad, kind of pleasant, but a little distracting - makes me feel like I should be relaxing on the beach instead of trying to get any work done! :P

As far as its voodoo properties are concerned, so far it has not had a particularly healing effect.. Need to read up on what kind of spells one should cast to appeal to the orisha. I'll edit this post when I find out.

  7. I got this from lostcreation (on LJ, no idea if your username is the same over here!) and I was so looking forward to trying it because I love vanilla and amber & honey sounded delish.

    In the imp: Sickly sweet.

Wet: Smelled horribly like a dentist's office - nitrous oxide (?!) or strawberry, maybe it was peach, some kind of fake fruit scent that made me feel kind of ill - this went on for about an hour.

Dry: Got better but was kind of generic, floral and powdery even at its best on me.

Final Verdict: I'm going to wait a while and then try it once more to see if my skin was just having a bad day or time of the month issue. I had such high hopes, I can't bear to swap it away so quickly. :P

Have no idea what note caused the bad chemistry reaction, because this is only the 4th BPAL scent I've tried. Might be the amber.

ETA nope, still made me feel sick. Swapped away to one who loved it, so there's a happy ending.

  8. Why do I feel like I've seen a review of Two, Five and Seven somewhere before ?  I searched the forums but came up with bupkus. Maybe it was on LJ, in which case who knows where it is now.

I know it's been listed as an upcoming scent a few times in the past, maybe you saw it then?

Hmmm, I'm checking. Does anyone else think it's odd that "five" and "seven" (separately) are not used anywhere in the entire text of this forum? (according to the search engine, that is)

  9. Maybe I'll receive a prototype or new scent in my first BPAL order! Then I can review it. I guess I was also confuzzled because I have no idea how old the scents are - unless indicated on the site.

Why do I feel like I've seen a review of Two, Five and Seven somewhere before ? I searched the forums but came up with bupkus. Maybe it was on LJ, in which case who knows where it is now. There's no way to search the content of our LJ, is there?
