Hmmmm – this smells like spicy muted rootbeer – so maybe sarsaparilla, clove, something to quiet the sarsaparilla….sniffing deeply this reminds me of Russian Tea (Tang & spices – nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.) but without most of the orange. So the spice….a hint of Tang…this is drying to a mostly spice blend, dry smelling too. The root beer vibe is now gone completely.

Wow – very strong fake cherry – almond type scent. Overpowering and eye watering. I don’t like this one.

    Putrefication v5

This is for Putrefication v5 - wasn't sure if I should start a new topic or not.... Anyway, on to the review... This is a very dark, thick oil. It sits on the skin and doesn’t soak in. At first I thought I smelled earth – I think that’s what I was expecting, but it’s not. It smells of anise, and some sort of dark cologne – like the darkness of Youth Dew if you will. I would not be surprised if patchouli were in here. There’s a slight sweetness and it almost reminds of a non-foody caramel-toffee note. It rounds off the anise and patch, but that’s about it. It doesn’t offer more than tempering and rounding if that makes sense. Maybe a hint of beeswax and some dark sort of absolute too - I'm thinking mimosa but I'm not sure about that....regardless it's not in large quantities. If it is mimosa that would account for the sweetness and honeyed type of note.

    Pediophobia v1

Gosh, I don’t even know how to describe this by individual notes. This is very well blended and smells of sweet florals – not heavy or cloying, not wildflowers…and something aquatic or ozone-ish. There’s a hint of bright amber underneath the ozone/aquatic smell alongside the florals. There’s a bit of a fruity vibe too but the sharpness of the ozone/aquatic notes is strongest alongside the florals. I actually like this though I’d never wear it. It reminds me of how I remember Thunder Moon, with flowers.

    Set v3

Whoa – red musk! Blasting out! A touch of vetiver too and what I think is dragon’s blood. The oil is a dark brownish-red color, so that all fits. As it dries, maybe a bit of patchouli too, and it seems to get brighter if it had a color. Once dry, I don’t smell vetiver or patchouli at all. Dragon’s blood, a floral scent – maybe a titch of gardenia? I can’t say for sure. Resins, musk….the dragon’s blood is strong here. Now after about an hour, I smell red musk, dragon’s blood, and orchid! Gorgeous!

    Astraphobia v1

Fresh on the skin this is minty and chilly. Maybe a mix of peppermint and cornmint, eucalyptus and I wouldn’t be surprised if menthol and a wee small drop of pine or fir were present as well. It actually feels cooling and slightly tingly on the skin. Well done! After it’s been on about a ½ hour or so, it’s faded in strength and the mints have quieted down. Now eucalyptus is dominant. I don’t think this will last much longer on the skin. Now at an hour, it’s pretty much gone, but what is left is soft and clean smelling.

This smells very sweet and red, almost like red gummi worms. Bright, cheery, perhaps with a bit of lotus…..maybe heliotrope and dragon’s blood too. Vanilla…..this kinda reminds of the Ars Draconis scents….Dragon’s Milk in particular. It doesn’t have that deep cherry red color but it’s kinda orange, so I could believe there is dragon’s blood in here. After it’s been on a few minutes, the candy quality quiets and this smells more like a glowing amber. Yum! This smells great! I love this stage. It smells like it feels velvety and lush, the smell has a tactile aspect to it. OMG – this is gorgeous! This does smell like Glowing Vulva – I love it! With maybe a drop of coconut too. The coconut is not prominent, but there’s something there that makes me think of it. More a quality than anything. This is really a lovely blend.

    Cesky Krumlov v1

This is a very soft scent – elements of cedar wood, herbs, light musk, and perhaps violet or orris root. This is not a sweet scent, but soft, gentle, slightly herbal and astringent.

    Antimony v9

At first sniff, this is a very bright, fruity floral – I smell a mix of flowers and grapes. Sandalwood too. I would characterize this as mainly a fruity scent. It’s lovely but not my type of scent, though I am glad I got to try this. (this is really weird - the imp I smelled smells nothing like what the other reviewers got. hmmm- maybe it was mislabeled or I got the name confused....? I don't know....)

    Taphophobia

First sniff – loam first – just lovely, then anise or fennel. As it wears, the anise smell gets stronger and the loam gets weaker. After a few minutes, I can’t even smell the loam or earth, and just get anise, though it is tempered and lower in pitch than normal, so there are moderating influences there. After about 20 minutes, the anise while present, quiets and the lovely loam and earth smells come out.

    Phosporous v5

Light, slightly sweet scent. I smell vanilla sugar, a dash or two of ozone, maybe a drop of lemon. Very fresh and bright.

    Lamia v3

Oh – simply gorgeous. This smells just like Tam Dao by Diptyque – a glorious dry sandalwood. Smelling this further, it’s beyond just sandalwood, but I can’t place it exactly. It has a bite that could be a combination of sandalwood, cedar and a touch of spice. That could be nutmeg and cinnamon in minute amounts. Oude is here too I believe – it has that bite that’s present in 10 Corso Como, Bulgari Black or some of the other great Oude scents. I love this scent. Luckily I have both Tam Dao and 10 Corso Como so I’m set and don’t have to go in search of this elusive scent. It sure is gorgeous though. and if it was released I'd snap it up in a split second. (many thanks to TwilightEyes for the chance to try this!)

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

morocco is very much like antique lace. morocoo is a hard one as there is batch variation - for some it it can be cedary, and for some, the amaing vanilla musk spice. but it's a good check for AL.
  14. Boo!, to me, has the very same vanilla that underpants does. Lovely!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Red Rose smells just like Et Une Rose with a dash of clove and tobacco. Seriously, if you love RR and can't find any, get a Et Une Rose FO dupe and you'll be happy.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I wonder what kind of a carrier base they are using now. I seem to be more reactive to scents than I was - before I remember reading that it was oil based but that's been stripped from the site so I'm wondering what else is in there now.

    Cockaigne

This smells of spice cake! And a titch of booze. The cake is not a super-sweet cake. There’s a flour note here, but also a bit of lemon and butter. It’s like cake-batter with lemon zest and spice sprinkled on top. It is quite realistic.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

First applied, wet, this smells mainly of wintergreen or birch, and cherries or almonds. I really don’t care for it at this point. And something that is almost chocolate, but not quite. That doesn’t last long. There’s a soapy element here too underneath the almond, and touches of dark fruit. Now I can smell the apple and pomegranate too if I sniff hard, and it just seems really boozy and alcoholic. It smells very sharp and strong, like an assault on my nose. Ick. I still don't care for this scent.

    Boadicea

It’s so interesting the different ways people experience the same perfume. For me, the strongest thing I smelled when Boadicea is first applied is neroli. Lots and lots and lots of neroli. Which is good, as I do love it. The neroli is tempered and sweetened by the amber and vanilla. It’s hard to describe this by notes, it is an extremely well blended oil and the notes really come together well. The amber, vetiver and patchouli are not dominant and overpowering in this blend. They just provide a bit of darkness and base to the sweet vanilla and bitter sweet neroli. The fig is hard to distinguish, but I think that it must be there with the vanilla adding a sweetness and rounding out the neroli. I get no leather or dragon’s blood from this blend at all. I suspect that the leather is there adding a smoothness to the base and the dragon’s blood adds a bit of sweet fruitiness that’s working with fig. As it wears, the neroli backs off a bit and the amber and vanilla get stronger. Viscerally, I love this blend. It’s gorgeous. Sweet, powerful and so sexy. LOVE this! ETA: after an hour or so, or maybe not even that long, the fig really pushed forward and it was heavy fig and vanilla.

    Heavenly Love & Earthly Love

I think this is the most perfect of all the sandalwood and incense blends. On me, there is a strong sandalwood/wood note underlain with sweet, sticky resins and incense. The frankincense and myrrh add a bit of bite to it, but overall this is a very smooth, golden-dark type blend. The only problem is that it is a very faint smell and stays close to the skin. I guess that’s not too surprising since it is all middle and base notes. Regardless, I love this scent. Wish it was stronger, so I’m glad that it’s a Salon and I can get more when my bottle runs dry.

    Khrysee

Oh I love this! I thought I would and I do. Wet on the skin this starts out bitter orange blossom underlain with dark vanilla. This is very much in the Snake Oil – Ravenous – Vixen family. It doesn’t have that fizzy quality that Ravenous has, so perhaps this is closer to Vixen. This smells very dark to me, and quite sexy. The amber gives it a brighter feel than the patchouli vanilla in Vixen. The orange blossom gives it a bit of a feral feel to me, not indolic but almost. As it wears the vanilla gets stronger and I’m getting that aged Snake Oil vanilla. Gorgeous.

    Deep in Earth

Dirt… no.... that's loam….florals too. Maybe a titch of rose. Ah, not rose but rose geranium. It has that herbal aspect and gets stronger and stronger. There’s almost a lemon eucalyptus/lemongrass note here too. Very subtle though. It’s probably just part of the geranium. I’m not a huge fan of geranium, though I do like dirt smells. Fun to try but I won’t be seeking this out one.

Smoky Moon 2009: Tristesses de la Lune

Mmmm. Tobacco, orris, maybe a touch of the elemi bringing in a green note. I love this! . It smells like velvet, and haze and richness. It reminds me strongly of Black Lace, but without the vanilla sweetness. This doesn’t smell like smoke to me. Smoke to me smells acrid and sharp, smoky like wood burning or even resins burning. There is nothing burning here. This is more evocative of the feel or idea of smoke, rather than the smell. Hazy.

    Judith and Holofernes

First applied, this is all honeyed musk and lush sexual florals. This reminds me a bit of the magnolia musk in Trick 1.Oh yes, as this wears this reminds me strongly of Trick 1. I’m not getting much carnation from this at all, which is too bad as I love carnation. It’s just as well, as the scent is gorgeous – sultry, lush, bold and so sexy. The honeyed musk makes this seem like a skin scent but the magnolia takes it to another level.

    White Rose

Wet, this smells of creamy milky rose water. Vanilla too. It smells like a fluffy, sweet cloud. There’s a faint aquatic note here, not salty, but maybe just slightly of the ocean. Now that it’s dry, there’s the sweet vanilla tea. It does remind of Dorian. It still has that sense of being fluffy and whipped, if anything it’s even stronger. Quite lovely really. I’m glad I got the Unity set. I debated as rose can often go horribly wrong. Luckily both there and in Red Rose, it stays lovely and sweet. I prefer Red Rose and they are gorgeous layered together.
