  1. I was wondering, recently there are these new honey scents in the rapaccini's garden, and I was wondering, what are the differences...

Can someone give any recomendations as to what to order...

I've heard that the Chesnut Honey is very nutty, but, what if one is looking for something smokey, fruity or floral?

  2. I also don't get any vetiver at all from Jungle. And I really like vetiver. Jungle's a sort of non-descript fruity green scent to me.

I get that idea both from a description that stayed on the uk website a few years back, which said that it had vetiver in it, just as Curly Wurly does, and also, because many reviewers of Lush, on the US forum talk about it... myself, I find it smells of avocado and papaya... not in the best way.

  3. Have to agree with VioletFemme, even though I haven't smelled Rose Red (but I will soon enough... my decant is on it's way), from what I've red, it seems like the rosest one around.

I've tried 2,5 & 7, and it's a very sweet sugary rose... was rather disapointed.

Glasgow is a nice rosy heather smell, like lying in the grass, not so far away from a rose bush, but sadly, it's rather soft... so I guess one would have to use a lot of it to scent a room.

  4. My best-friend isn't very "manly" in his tastes...

So far, the only scent that could be seen as somewhat manly on him is Nocnitsa, which he loves, sadly, so do I, so there is no chance in Hell he's getting a grip on my imp...

He took my imps of The Zieba Tree, Titania and Lilium inter Spinas though... and wears them.

They actually smell really nice on him... very soft, tender... he loves the scent of peach, but in the soft powdery type of peach, instead of a lush and juicy one.

Spinning Multicolour Pinwheel (I don't know if I spelled this one right) really bugged him off... and he keeps saying that my imp of Baron Samedi smells like something rotten and putrid... (I have to agree with him on that one, it stinks).

  5. Second Cathedral for a comforting room scent...

Then again, I use to slather myself in Cathedral AND use it in a oil warmer at the same time, when I feel down... I love the scent.

I've noticed I like a lot Dia de los Muertos, as a room scent, when I feel I need a little reassurance, but it's a LE, so I can't really recomend it... then again, I think it's one which is rather easy to find decants of in the sales section...

  6. I'm very curious about vanilla blends...

I've never been a big fan of vanilla, but lately, I find myself being seduced by it, more and more... then again, I don't think it's the sugary vanilla that would be my cup of tea, more the creamy/buttery vanilla...

I don't know what to order exactly, among the GC blends, to try it out... So far, I've only ordered Tombstone, because I know I like cedar, and I hope it will save the blend for me, even if I'm not really pleased by the vanilla...

any recomendations as to what gc blends have a nice creamy vanilla to try?

  7. 2009 :

This has been sitting in my imp box, unloved, for a year now...

I received it last autumn, in decant form, and fresh, this smelled like cat-piss florals... awful...

A year later, I can't get enough of this scent, and kind of feel like digging up a bottle...

It smells like a mortuary picnic in the desert, if this makes any sense...

Like incense, cakes and burned out earth...

    Lovely.

  8. I love rose, and am planning on ordering a few blends with this note...

I've tried a few rose blends from BPAL so far, but it was mostly white rose, which seems to work well on me, but it's a little too creamy...

I want something more lush, but not candy-like (Two, Five & Seven smells like pure candy on me).

I hate patchouli, amber and dislike white musk, so these are the "no-no" notes... leather is a note I'm not very fond of, and I'm not a fan of nutts nor almonds, or violets...

This are the GC blends I've selected so far, but I would like to narrow down to 5 scents... could someone help?

Jezebel, Zombi, Blood Countess, Lilith, Santa Muerte, Thanatos, Euphrosyne, Snooty Rose, Roses,Pearls & Diamonds and Blood Rose.

I love, love, love dragon blood, I like vanilla, vetiver, pine, moss, gardenia, orange blossom and incense...

I'd like to have different rose blends, not stuff that all smells the same...

  9. I have no idea if there is already a topic like this one, and if there is, I apologize in advance in front of the moderators and accept to be merged with it or mine being delated...

I was thinking that since there is a thread to say what scents make us think of fictional characters, maybe there could be a thread to say what scents make us think of what famous people, historical or contemporary...

For example, I find N°93 Engine makes me think of Isaac Newton.

I was looking for something that would make one think of such personalities as Richelieu, Marilyn Monroe and Haendel...

If anybody could recommend something, and just say what scent inspires hims what personality, it would be very interesting...

    Thanks.

  10. Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage.

I was a 100% sure I had posted a review of this one...
    Apparently not...

A year ago, when I received my imp, it stank of paint solvent and just made me gag...
Had to wash it off pretty fast, it gave me a severe head-ache...

One year later, my little imp aged... and though in the imp it still smells of paint solvent, on my skin it morphs into something gorgeous...
Sweet, subtle, slightly metallic, like licking an electric pill... It stays close to the skin on me, but from time to time, whafts around to scent the air around me...
It's a very beautiful scent... I wish there wasn't a need to wait for a year for the scent to age enough for to be able to wear it...

  11. I've been one of those "coconut-haters" for years now...

Almost all coconut scents make me literally gag, (Lush's Coolaulin and Trichomania are good examples of that hate, I just loathe the scent of them)...

Recently, my mum bought me some coconut oil, it's pure coconut oil, and it's smells heavenly... not like dried coconut shavings, but... very soft, slightly sweet (but the sweetness is so soft that you can hardly smell it), very fresh...

So I was hoping to find this sort of scent in the GC catalogue.. so far, Obatala seems a kinda nice choice, but maybe someone can help me and point me in the right direction... I'm not looking for a sweet scent, nor a boozy scent... Something soothing and fresh...

  12. Okay, I know you were like "no amber!" but I do not care for amber very much at all and one of my favourite vetiver blends is Prurience red amber and scorched musk with voluptuous carnation, charred vetiver, sensuous tonka, and orris. It's definitely in the Snake Oil/Snake Charmer/Mme. Moriarty family. If you feel like tracking down a (not hard to find) LE with a similar vibe to Prurience and a fabulous vetiver note, you can try Lunar Eclipse Red musk, black currant, violet leaf, wild frankincense, lavender, black orchid, Darjeeling tea, vetiver, red moss, myrrh, Moroccan spices, blackened fruit gums, and tobacco.

    Some other good vetiver recs:

Queen Bewitching Brews Brews For use only by women. An extremely potent passion blend, used to great effect when you're converting feminine sexual energy into power.

This, of course, is dependent on whether or not you choose to wear the Voodoo blends. If they are your bag this is a fabulous vetiver/honey/pine blend that is both enticing and a little threatening.

Alecto Excolo Olive leaf, raspberry leaf, vetiver and cedarwood.

Strong vetiver bolstered by the herbal quality of the other ingredients.

The Scales of Deprivation Sin and Salvation lemon peel, white sage, frankincense, lavender fougere, sandalwood, vetiver and labdanum.

A dry, herbal vetiver chypre. Very handsome and masculine.

Anathema Sin and Salvation Black opium, with vetivert and honeysuckle.

A bit sweeter. I find the opium to be the stronger note but ymmv.

Queen sounds nice... I didn't know it had vetiver in it... besides, I like pine too... is it very sweet, with honey being there and all?

Alecto sounds very nice too... those are the two that really tempt me the most...

Amber is a definite "no-no", not because I don't care for the scent, I actually like it on other people, but because once I put a blend with amber on my skin, thats the only thing that I can smell, it kills everything else, and in 5 minutes time, there's juste amber, and nothing else...

  13. Heliotrope, heliotrope, heliotrope...

So much of it, I smell nothing else...

It's sweet, very very sweet... I don't smell any dirt or dragon blood, not in the imp, nor in the wet stage...

We'll see how it turns later on... but so far, it's definitely not a winner for me...

Too much heliotrope for my taste...

  14. Imp - smells very sweet, don't smell any cypress nor ozone...

Wet - OMG, this smells like the kitchen bin, when you've forgotten to take the trash out for a day or two and it starts to rot... rotten food, ugh, disgusting... want to wash it off, but will keep it to see how it turns...

10 minutes into it... still rotten stuff...ugh, I can't take it... I have to wash it off...

  15. I'm not a particularly huge vetiver fan... but I've been to Madagascar recently and smelled some vetiver soap that just made me lose my mind...

I think it can be a very nice thing... then again, most scents that have vetiver in them, seem to have patchouli in them too... and... I don't like patchouli... nor amber.. two scents that I seem to amp like crazy, and finally I can smell only that.

I'm looking for GC here tho, impable GC...

I'm already ordering Serpent's Kiss, since I know I love dragon's blood, and know that it's kinda of a salvage note for me... anything with it works for me...

But I'd like some more recommendations, if someone has any...

  16. my moss recommendations, keeping an eye on autumnal scents in particular:

Whoso List to Hunt (Sensual brown musk, rich amber, English rose, oak bark, and moss)

Nocnitsa (Her scent is that of a lightless fir wood, nighttime air, wet forest mosses and upturned earth.)

Robin Goodfellow (Dark musk, moss-covered wood, ragwort, heather, and sage. )

but do try Cathode (Ambergris, Spanish Moss, oakmoss and three electric mints) Its a gorgeous moss/mint, just not very autumn probably ;)

I'm kinda scared of amber, I amp it to death...

And I've tried Nocnitsa, and though I really love it, it smells mostly of pine and berries on me.... no moss at all to my nose there...

I've been thinking of Robin Goodfellow, but was afraid that with sage being there, it would be too sweet for me...

  17. Hi everyone, it's been a while...

Ok, the winter is coming in huge jumps, somewhat puma-like, here in Paris... and it gives me the strange desire to smell like moss.

But there is one HUGE problem with mossy scents... there are many kinds of moss, and so, there are many types of moss scents...

The is the dry moss, lichen-type, which is sure nice... the decomposing sweet scent of swamp moss...

Those are none of the things I'm looking for...

I'm looking for the scent of moss in the forest in autumn... this damp, but earthy scent... not sweet at all.

It need to be a GC thought, please don't recommend LE, I don't really have the possibility right now to go LE decant hunting...

I'd love some help with this...

    Thanks...
