This is one of the most amasing scents I recieved, so far... Actually, when I ordered the decant I didn't expect anything special..I'm not a big fan of oriental perfume, since it smells like my mum.. but I still seek that special rose scent that will work on me, instead of turning to candy. I don't smell the rose in this, and it has a slight soapiness that wouldn't please me usually, but there is something so enticing in this perfume, that I can't help myself, I love it. It's rather strong on my skin, very heady... and yet, soft, like a velvet glove... It smells like a boudoire, like the 19th century... It's delightfull. ET. A Year later... My imp has aged, and now, as soon as it hits my skin, the bright bouquet of white roses blooms from my wrist... The soapy note from the beginning has disappeared... Sadly, it fades pretty fast...

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents

Well, being a newbie myself... I'd like to say, that from what I ordered, the scents that totally won me over were Cathedral, Sudha Segara and Prunella... Now, I use mostly Dragon Claw, Wolfs Heart and Tintagel, but that's cause autumn and dragon blood seem to work well for me... Then again, my friend, who smelled some of my BPALs, said that Lawn Gnome and Lady Lilith were fantastic... but I guess GC are better for enabling... even if from the little I've tryed, I've noticed that LE are somewhat more touching, than GC... From the 7 LE I tryed, I liked 6 of them. From the 30 GC I tryed, I liked more or less 6 of them... so, I guess this means that LE are more suitable for me, I don't really know why, tho...
  3. Anything that smells like Labores Solis?

    Fur Scents

Are there any GC, that smell like fur, but without the amber? Or that don't smell strongly of amber?

    Katrina van Tassel

Well, I really expected this to be love-at-first-sniff, but sadly, this has the same problem I had with Two, Five and Seven. The rose note smells sweet even in the decant, and on me, it just grows even sweeter. The cream is nice and soft... If not for this sweetness from the rose, I would be really in love with it...cause I seem to love the cream and milk note, from BPAL... I still like it, it's a a lot nicer than 2,5&7... less toxicly sweet. I hope that some day, I'll find that rose scent that wont turn candy on me... but Katrina Van Tassel isn't that scent...

    Labores Solis

I should tell one thing, before I review this scent. I spent this summer in Spain, near Barcelona... it was like hell to me - hot, fiery hell. Then, in the last days of july, we had to come back to Paris, and my mother decided that a car trip was in order, to show our russian friends the south of France. There are grottes near Carcassonne, the Grotte of Limousis. We decided to visit it... afterwards, my brother spottet some apple trees, and we made a halt to "take" some... Nearby, there was mint growing. The day was hot, the grass was yellow and dry and everything around was dry too. A few days later, I got my decants, with Labores Solis in them... The first thing I can smell in this, is sweet incense... But then, this becomes more herbal, and dry... Like that day... near Сarcassonne. This smells like a late evening in the South of France, with dry herbs and grass around you. It smells hot - like heat is hot (I'm not making any sexual alussions here)... And to be truthfull, I really like it... even if I hate heat, I hate summer and I hate southern places...

Any shots of the vampire set?

    Sandalwood Scents

Ok, I'm one of those sandalwood fanatics... From my first order, the scents that pleased me the most, were sandalwood scents... Dragon Claw (it's almost 50-50% dargon blood/sandalwood), Cathedral (it's a nice blend, in which I smell mostly cedarwood and insence, but I guess the sandalwood gives it that smooth finish) and The Little Sparrow (sandalwood and seeds, mostly... maybe a touch of amber, that gives it a sort of soapy feel, that I kind of like). I'm planing on ordering some scents this autumn, and I want scents that will be nice and cozy in winter... sort of 'blanket scents'. So far, last winter, my blanket scent was Shambalah from Arcana, which is sandalwood, cedarwood and honey. Velvet seems to be a cozy scents, so that's a sure order. Aureus too. What else? I don't like vanilla (turns in sugar on me), and am not very fond of highly spicy blends... As I'm planning on ordering 2 sets of imps, I want to make one of them a sort of sandalwood imp pack, and the second one, a mix of stuff... So... need 4 good recomendations, of cozy sandalwood blends. Or creepy, crazy sandalwood blends... something to make me wonder... Oh, white musk turns bad on me... and I don't like patchouli in high amounts. I hope it helps.

    Anything laundryish?

I agree on Sudha Segara, being a clean scent... As for White Rabbit, I was very disapointed, because on me, it was very sweet and honeyed...

    Abyssal Darkness

I agree with checking the Excolo section, but would also recomend throughtfully checking the Sin & Salvation or Diabolus section... they have a few things that sound dark. Btw, nice text - yours? *will recheck the myspace page, when not having breakfast with familly* Oh, and... the Salons have some things that seem to be down your alley, tho, no imps provided, aside from a full imp pack... maybe find some decants on the website. I can't give precise recomendations, since I'm new too, and haven't tested any Salons yet (besides, I'm more of a "highly feminine" type, so not very fond of deeply dark scents), but Les Anges Dechus sounded as something that would suit you.

    White Rabbit

This was a scent that I kind of hoped to love. First of all, because I have a soft spot for white rabbits, but also because the notes seemed so nice - black tea, honey, milk... it couldn't go wrong. This starts with a strong sweet white bloom scent. It's rather sharp, and the first 5 times I tried it, it just made me sad. I can guess that this thing, in the back, is the milk. The sort of breezy feeling in the back, is the clean linen... The sweetness, is more of a sugar sirop smell. I think it's the vanilla and honey going all gooey-dooey together. It smells like sugar, mixed with water, boiling.... Still... it's grown on me. Lately, I've noticed I wear it, for the dry stage alone, when it becomes a soft, sugared scent... with wiffs of creamy milk, that come floating from time to time... I'm disapointed because it wasn't as good as I was expecting, but, it's still nice... maybe not "bottle-worthy" nice, but still nice.
  12. I responded to that over in the Entertainment HBP thread, and from the list of your bottles, I think Milk Moon 07 and Pumpkin I 08 sound the most Hufflepuffish. In general, I feel Hufflepuff scents would be earthy (possibly including literal "dirt" notes if you like them), humble, warm, perhaps a little foody. Something with gingerbread or molasses maybe. You don't happen to have any Gunpowder, do you? That sounds like Lawn Gnome...))) Tho, Lawn Gnome should be the scent of the Burrow, imho. Back from the HBP - Ended up wearing Belladona for the first part of the movie, followed by Prunella when that one faded (the only blend I had in my bag).

    Venice

Another freebie. This blen didn't pick my curiosity at all, besides, my visit to Venice didn't impress me at all, so I wasn't very interested from the begining... But this is nice. It's floral, soft, close to the skin... With a wiff of something light green. I don't smell the lemon, though I'd love to. I don't smell the amber - thanks god. It's a morpher too, but I can't really follow to say what it smells like exactly. Still, my imp will probably be enough.

    Shakespearian enabling

I'd like to resurect this thread... I'm planing on ordering some imps later, in september... something to go through the winter... And I would like to order some Illyria, too... I've tryed Titania so far, and it was too sweet for my tastes - very peachy. Right now, I'm thinking about these - Jester (hoping for a tart juicy blend), Lady McBeth (also hoping for something tart, since I hate sweet fruity blends), Robin Goodfellow (because if it's as green as it sounds, it will be good for the winter), Rosalind (cause I love fresh scents, and hopefully it will be what Glasgow wasn't) and Yorick (cause it sounds nice too). So any help to choose from that? So far, my favourites from what I've ordered had been Cathedral, Sudha Segara, Dragon Claw, The Temptation, Prunella, Belladona, June Gloom 09, Ouija and Old Scratch...
  15. Jupita

    The Little Sparrow

This was a freebie. I had looked at it, when passing my order... and thought : amber - not my thing, seeds - not my thing... not worth it. I was wrong. This is nice, for once, amber doesn't amp on my skin, like it usually does, and its a rather nice sandalwood with some florals in the back... it has a soft brown feel, and makes me happy... eager to do something. I don't think I'll be ordering a bottle, though who knows, right? What I do think, is that seeing that both Marchen scents I've tried so far, are hits, I might order more of them... hoping to see more of this nice scents. BTW, I see what people mean with soapy... and I love it.

    Lilac!

Well, I don't smell any lilac in Ouija at all, it's all rosewood and white rose... As for WhiteChapel, I smell some of it in the wet stages, but it fades behind the white musk...((( Eros doesn't smell like lilac at all, it's pure acrid ti leaf..
  17. That's the only Mrs. Norris suggestion I've seen. I think it's really good, but it would be nice if we could figure out a GC suggestion. Mrs. Norris is hard-- the cat scents people have suggested for Crookshanks, for example, just don't seem to suit her. Mrs. Norris strikes me as sort of chthonic. Maybe: Crossroads A chill twilit garden of blooms over dry earth and mosses, heavily laden with incense and offertory herbs. I think the dirt element adds a lot to this one. Sort of the scent of a cat that has been slinking around spying and had to run through bushes and herb gardens to get her quarry. The Witch's Garden Morning glory vines twisting around a patch of rampion, carrot, and parsley, with monkshood, hemlock, elfwort, sage, wormwood, and mandrake. Sort of the same concept as above but without the dirt. Seance rosewood, crushed rose leaf and the slightest touch of warm hazel. Not necessarily Mrs. Norris herself but the sense of being watched by her. The Obsidian Widow Pinot noir, dark myrrh, red sandalwood, black patchouli, night-blooming jasmine, and attar of rose. Dark, intriguing and full of feminity without necessarily representing human feminity. I think it's the scuttling description of the scent that inspires the connection. Man, this thread is so much fun for geeking out. Yes, yes it is. Regarding the Beth being ispired by Harry Potter, I would guess it is probably just a love of similar mythology and herbalism etc. that J.K. Rowling also probably has. Rowling used a ton of mythology and real life historical figures to craft HP, which is pretty evident if you research into some of the terms and the characters that are taught to the students of Hogwarts. I think I remember finding out that Nicholas Flemmel was a real person but I cant remember how at the moment. I think Beth and co. are creative enough on their own, but you can be inspired by so many things in life its hard to tell. Perhaps one of the great mysteries is that we will never know. Yes, Nicholas Flammel was a french alchemist. His shop still exists in Paris, and is one of the oldest houses in town.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamel
  18. For the visoning of HBP, I'll probably go wearing Belladonna, since it's a known ingridient for potionmaking and because in one of my favourite fanfictions, it was the password to Severus's private quarters...) + it's one of those scents I can wear dispite the HOT weather...
  19. Anything for the scent of Thestrals? Crooshanks? And I'd really love to have a scent for the Mirror of Erised...
  20. I'd personally be glad if a preteen was taking an interest in hygiene! Most think if they showered this week, they are fine. I see what you mean... not so far from my preteen years to have forgoten (dispite being a girl)... But I don't know... it's... kind of weird looking... besides, since they have the same shoe size as my mother, lately, I've noticed them exchanging shoes with him... she's a rather protective divorcee, so I can't really tell her that it's probably not the best way of action with a boy who hardly has any male role model at all... But we're really going off topic here.. I've noticed him liking White Rabbit too... and truth be told, it smells rather good on him, and rather iffy on me(... On him it's soft milk and ginger, with a background of sweet vanilla... On me it's white flowers and sugar sirop... ugh!
  21. Hey, don't worry! My friend's husband wears Midnight (and loves Haloes) - she wears Fenris Wolf Is Hi'Iaka nice? I meant to order an imp this last order and forgot. Well, to be truthfull, I found it overly sweet... (had secretly hoped for a tropical jugnle scent)... but it's more like a tropical bouquet scent. I found it rather fake, since for me, jungle means greenery and flowers, not just pure flowers... but if you like sweet tropical florals, you'll probably like it. As for my worries... it's just, he has some strange behaviour lately... in comparison with his friends... Even I was more manly at his age...) I don't mean to say I will be sad or disapointed, if he turns out gay, everyone is allowed to love whoever he wants... but, I can't say my familly is as accepting as I am...
  22. My brother (12 y.o.) really liked High John the Conqueror and Hi'iaka on himself... I'm trying not to get worried over his love for girly florals and cherry body butters...
  23. I'm looking for a nice rose scent too... Something fresh, tart but not sweet at all... Like a rose garden after the rain, under the sun... And something more heavy, lush, like a bouquet of roses, in a closed room, with velvet drapes and precious woods... So far I've tryed Two, Five and Seve, which was a total miss.... Ouija, that was nice, but not what I was looking for... Any suggestions?

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

I'm on the same boat there... Love fruits, specially citrus, but it seems to fade fast.. Hoped for a floral-lime scent with Whitechappel, but it's pure white musk on me. Any recomandations - I would prefer GC, tho...

    Voodoo Lily

Another freebie from the lab. When I red the description, I told myself this would be a rather... strange scent. But, I love purple, and I like purple scents, so I was kind of excited. One thing for sure, this is NOT purple. You can called it yellow, orange or bright honey colour, but definitly, not purple. I smell the lily, it's a bright, yellow lily... Actually, it smells like... a pastry shop, with big bouquets of yellow and orange lilies all around. It's spicy, foody, but still very floral... It's a strong scent too... a little goes a long way. In the dry down, the spiciness and foodiness retreats a bit, leaving more space to the bright golden lily... it's a nice, happy scent, that I will definitly wear as soon as the weather gets cooler... To remind me of summer and sun.
