  1. Sniffed at the meet n sniff--yay!

This smells very much like Gypsy Queen, enough so that the I'd consider GQ an adaquate substitute. It's less floral/citrus-y than GQ, though, and it has a dominant note that smells a bit like an underlying note in GQ, although for the life of me I can't identify it...wood? resin? no idea, but Voodoo Queen is absolutely lovely, my second favorite C12 blend after Storyville.

  2. ... Yuzu, kaki, and mikan with cherry blossom and black tea.

I don't know what half the notes of this blend smell like :P but my nose screams "FRESH GARDEN HERBS!!" :eek" Really...it smells like an herb garden and greenery, a tad savory (well, I get basil, at least), but not enough to make it off-putting. This is VERY different from any other BPAL I've sniffed, and I find it a refreshing change from the rest of my collection =)

  3. This is the oddest scent, and yet it works! When I hear "smokey melon" I think "ewwww!" but oddly enough...it smells really nice! On me, the scent is primarily tobacco, fresh melon, and a touch of underlying spiciness.

  4. This is one of the most delicious foody BPALs I've ever tried!!

There's a chilly, unexpected freshness to this blend that takes me back to sleepaway camp when I was 11...

The dominant note in Underbed is cassia; I have been dreading this, as cassia usuall=cinnamon which usually=redhots. Thankfully, however, it's the cinnamon that I smell in cinnamon SN: gentle and slightly foody--wonderful! Beneath the cinnamon is a delicious fluffy coconut cake. It's not a "flour-y", heavy cake note, but light and diaphenous and utterly wearable. The coconut is more a "tone" then a seperate identifiable note, and it's delicious (I love coconut but don't like the coconut in the vast majority of BPAL blends).

I LOVE MB: Underbed! I had been dreading Beaver Moon or Sugar Cookie; what I got was a light 'n spicy, lovely gourmand =)

  5. Oh Obatala, how I've been covetting you...

I love milk and I love coconut, and though I didn't know what shea butter smells like, I didn't care--Obatala sounded PERFECT for me. Even better, it sounded perfect for my current favorite rp character, so I've been waiting anxiously since 4/1 to get a whiff...

Let me just prefice my review by saying that I've only been this nuts over a just-released GC blend twice before: with Eden, and with Bengal. Both sounded both scrumptious and perfect for characters of mine. I waited and slathered and obsessed for months over them. And when I finally got them...

    I was dissapointed.

    But Obatala...

This is exactly what I expected, and I am in heaven :P

The reviewers are right: this is VERY much like Milk Moon, except lighter. I can definately detect the water note, which is WONDERFUL--it actually smells like fresh water (does that even have a smell? :D), not cologne-y or laundry-sheet-like "aquatic." The coconut is distinct and has a bit of "texture" to it, although the milk note softens it up and takes off the harsh edge it has in scents like Blood Pearl (where it smells very "dry" to me).

Obatala is mildly sweet and very cozy and gentle. Those who love the "coziness" of Alice and Dana O'Shee (which also have milk notes) really should check out Obatala. This has shot to the top of my fave GC list, and is now one of my fave BPALs ever :D

  6. It would seem that the most important thing, as the previous poster suggested, is to wear something that smells like the person you want to be for the interview -- that is, the person they'd want to hire. Since I got going on this crazy perfume thing, I've been increasingly aware of how much my scent influences my acting ability.

    WORD.

Zephyr does this for me, and whenever I get dressed up in a crisp white shirt and slacks, I find myself reaching for it, as it's a calm, controlled, crisp fragrance that smells a bit like clean skin.

The "clean skin" smell is what I'd go for, frankly.

  7. Let me start off by saying that I'm not a fan of BPAL's white or green tea notes; they're just too sharp for me and they make me kinda queesy for some reason ;_; Spirits of the dead is a woody, papery white tea, and it does not work for me at all. Pity...it sounds so darned nice!!

  8. Dark, very spicy, slightly fruity, and murky, Hellion is a fierce, agressive scent remeniscent of scents such as Wrath (it has a similar dry, "hot" quality). Not sure what champaca flower smells like, but it might be what's lending the scorched quality to this scent (haha I thought of "scorched" before reading the description to refresh my memory :P). This is a black and deep red scent; very World of Darkness (love that game setting).

  9. Wet on the skin, EOM is dark, dry, and almost woody. A dark, bracing citrus emerges almost immediately, as well as a tingly soapiness that I suspect is due to the plant extracts. I'm not familiar with black amber, so I'm not sure if I'm smelling it or not.

As it dries down...another BPAL dark earthy scent =/ not nearly as exciting as I had hoped.

  10. I'd try spicy scents (although perhaps more for fall/winter than summer!) like Bengal and Three Witches...they tingle the nose and are unexpected enough to be flirty and different =) I's also rec Juliet for the sparkling pear topnote, and I second Titania.

  11. Sudha Segara is milky as in chai, Dana O'Shee might fill your bill, too. You might also want to try out the caramel like ones, many of those are LE's though: Midway, Mitzvah for example. Also try searching on the Lab site for all the things you could be looking for and things that are close: milk, cream, creamy, milky, sweet, etc. You might want to investigate the sugar/honey connection as well. Sometimes the things that are close or related to what you are looking for surprise you, and those are the ones which hit the spot. Good luck. I am a milky lover too.

Hmm...I've tried all the ones you've mentioned :P I think I may have to just wait for the next update :D

  12. Cinnamon lovers are SO spoiled by BPAL! :P I swear, there's cinnamon in half the blends I've tried that don't list it...

My favorite cinnamon blend is Three Witches, but my favorite cinnamon oil is the old cinnamon SN; it smells a lot sweeter and more mellow than the red-hots-like variety that seems to be in most cinnamon blends these days (not sure if it's actually a different kind of cinnamon or just an aging/batch dif thing)

  13. Fee is absolutely gorgous...like Dorian+Fruit Moon+fairy sparkles! =D

To describe it color-wise, Fee is a riot of creamy, bright pastels--green, yellow, peach, white, pink...it's fruity, but not in the "neon juice" way of many BPAL fruits. The lovely soft vanilla and delicate hint of musk make the blend all fluffy-like, with the white tea--not at all sharp, yay!--adds a refreshing sparkle to the blend.

Fee is most definately one of my top BPALs of all time, and easily my fave of the N/N scents!

  14. I tried this blend a while ago, liked it, but decided against hunting down a bottle. However, the memory kept niggling at my mind, and I jumped at a half-bottle I saw for sale on the forum.

Let's get one thing out of the way: for the most part, I hate BPAL florals. They smell either soapy or murky to me, and one floral note in an otherwise floral-less blend can completely ruin it for me.

That being said, I nonetheless LOVE Bearded Lady.

The scent begins with a burst of Stargazer Lily, which is not only the only BPAL floral note I love, it's a single note that I'd KILL for (I had the pleasure of sniffing it in the SN circular swap). The honeysuckle arrives in a cloud of violet-laced vanilla; the amber note isn't obvious but instead lends a hint of warmth to counteract violet's natural chilliness.

This is definately a deep, sensual floral blend, very "purple and white" in tone and satiny in texture. It is one of the very few BPAL scents I can genuinely call "elegant"--a scent that would fit right in at a fancy dress party or (better yet!) an upper-crust picnic on estate grounds in England.

I'm sure it's the Stargazer Lily that "makes" this blend for me; the only other BPAL floral I love--Juliet--also contains Stargazer Lily. It's such a pity that this note appears in only a small handful of BPAL blends!
