  1. I managed to snag a partial bottle of this and love to try the older blends, so here goes! Definitely floral, but a vanilla floral. White Rose and carnation for sure, maybe other florals too. A little powdery, but not in a bad way to my nose - maybe amber?

    creamy spicy floriental

  2. First off, I Love this one. But it is very similar to Black Pearl on my skin. Almost identical, but maybe a bit sweeter. Its that gorgeous coconut/orris/iris/white musky thing that I love, but better =) BTW - I dont smell specifically honey or cherry blossom here.

Black Pearl - Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk.

Aphrogenes - Orris root, iris, white honey, white sandalwood, coconut, and cherry blossom.

  3. oh my! I wanted this one because of the peach wine. I definitely get that wet, but its so much prettier dry. The violet comes into play (which I was actualyl afraid of, as I'm not a fan), but apparently violet plus peaches = win. Its slightly woody, slightly violet, and very peachy wine. I don't get any carnation or lemon (thank goodness), and I think think no orange, though it may play into the peach. This would be great for a sophisticated summer scent =) Keeper, and need more to fill my very low partial. ;)

  4. Wow this needs more love and reviews. This is a gorgeous gorgeous lilac floral. Its almost a pure lilac, but very outdoorsy, rather than a spray of lilac air freshener. This is really really pretty, and lilac is maybe my favorite flower scent ever.

There might be jsut a bit of grass with this, maybe wood underneath, I get the coolness that suggests shadows. But this isn't a complicated blend. I mostly get cool lilac =)

  5. wet this does have that same balsam as U, but it smooths out and blends in as it dries. Wet, I wasnt sure I liked this. I agree with masculine and feral. I expected something more like woody/honeyed/vanilla/rose -- but that balsam note is stronger, maybe when combined with the ambergris. Its much prettier when dry - though it is still different than expected. I'll hang on to it for a little while in hopes that it ages to a thing of beauty =)

  6. I have an interesting relationship with Khrysee. I go between "love this so much" and "wait, what's that?". I love the vanilla amber, I think its the orange blossom that sometimes goes a little off. Its maybe a little sharp or too much of a perfumed assault or something. But the stage at which I feel "love this so much" really is gorgeous. Its a dreamy amber and vanilla haze, what I swear is a skin musk, and a floral orange floating over the top.

  7. This tends to be my favorite recommendation thread so I thought I would bump it with a specific recommendation! Again I'm looking for a beautiful meadow scent. Cool grasses warmed by sunshine and light warm sweet florals. The Passionate Shepherd to his Love is my absolute favorite meadow scent along with Fairy Market. The problem is, both are either LE or discontinued! I have bottles of each but would love to branch out BUT REALLY ONLY IN THE GC CATEGORY. I don't want to track down bottles of scents I may love. I'd rather get an imp from the lab and see what happens!

So any suggestions for GC (preferably impable) meadow scents?

Here is a rundown of meadow type scents I have tried.

The Passionate Shepherd to his Love - absolute favorite, crisp grass warmed by sunlight and sweet florals (tea rose and carnation mainly)

The Host of the Air - Lovely and crip, but not warm enough and fades quickly. That being said I DO love this blend.

Fairy Market - Otherworldy ethereal market place with SUGARED INCENSE (one of the most wonderful notes of all time).

The East - Very pretty and flowery and a touch of grass thrown in for good measure, but not quite as ethereal as Fairy Market.

Enchanted Wood Florist - something in this (the sap I think) amped and urned very very very sweet on my skin. Like candied florals. Pretty but WAY too sweet for me.

Little Bird - Nice but too sharp and clean.

Caliban - green green grass and dew.

Garden Path with Chickens is an amazing grassy/meadowy scent, but alas not impable. Also the Phoenix in Spring you might like, but again....

  8. Some of my favorite scents that I'd consider light are: Black Opal, Door, Dorian, La Petite Mort, and The Lights of Men's Lives.

I'm not really a fan of super-citrusy smells, florals, foodies, or fruity perfumes. Several scents already mentioned in this thread I'd have to veto: Embalming Fluid was too citrusy on me, The Dormouse was way too floral, and Snow White turns to sweet plastic on my skin. I really like resinous, incensy, woodsy, boozy, red musk containing perfumes... but hey, those are what I need to get away from.

I do like vanilla in any amounts, so more light vanilla scents are good as long as they don't fall into the realm of foody. Amber is also usually good. Any recommendations for me? ;)

Id say try Sachs. I didnt like my new bottle, but at least a year on it makes it into a gorgeous, very light herbal vanilla.

  9. This is a very pretty, wispy and ethereal floral. If I had to give it a color, it is pale lilacs and green. The white chocolate did not make it foody at all, just creamy instead of crystalline the way you would think the rest of the notes would be. The lettuce stands out when its wet, but more as a watery green (not aquatic though!). I didnt get any coconut (which is usually bad on me anyway!). What I smell predominately: lettuce, lilac, iris/orris, and the creamy hint of white chocolate.

  10. I was really hoping for Champagne and apples, but I dont realyl pick up a champagne scent here. Not really a boozy scent either, but it is fizzy. I get a fizzy, fuzzy, apple scent. Im going to test it against my other apples to see which one I need to keep, but this doesnt stand out the way I wanted it to =(

  11. As a lover of both champagne and (bpal!) opium I knew I had to have this bottle. I was very lucky to find a pick up =)

So, not having given this time to rest, I ripped open the package and applied lightly ;) The champgne is strongest when its wet, with a hint of the smoky opium I love from Mum Moon. (there it is complicated with many other things, including red musk, which I dont paritcularly like), but here the opium is glorious. The champgne fades out for me, and the scent warms to my skin, very hazy, but not exactly a soft opium scent. If you love the opium note, you NEED this bottle. It is the best opium I've found outside of Mum Moon =) If you love the champagne note, keep in mind that is not the strongest part of the scent (at least on my skin)

  12. WOLF MOON 2011
This pale and glittering moon hangs high over the deep snows and freezing winds of midwinter. January’s full moon has been named the Wolf Moon by many cultures, as the nights are filled with the howls of ravenous Wolf packs, and the danger of falling prey to the animal’s desperate hunger is at its peak.

This scent is that of unending, unquenchable hunger and feral madness. This is the dead of winter: a frozen night, chill wind, and the sharp, warm perfume of blood, fur, fang, and claw. Winter air, Terebinth pine, black spruce, long-dead maple leaves, juniper berry, dusty orris, deep amber, white sandalwood, brown musk, blue cedar, ambrette seed, benzoin, and tonka.

Really? Not one review yet? I got my bottle today, but its been in town resting for a few days, so Im safe to test and review. I was worried at first, because my mom's reaction was Pinesol, but immediately I know that I will love this one. Yes, its strong on the pine/spruce - but there is a snowy touch to this that guarantees my love. This reminds me of Snow Moon at first, something about the powdery snow undertones. But then the almost sweet berry tone comes out over the top. Not candy or foody berry, and I cant tell by looking what notes are giving me this reaction. Ill have to test this against my other snows to see what this is so similar to besides Snow Moon, but this is love. LOVE.

  13. thank you so much -- this is very helpful!

the bpal website can be quite overwhelming, but now i have something to start on :-)

nocnitsa sounds like it may be in my future...

    c.

the only two I linked to you that can't buy from the lab site are the two Wolf Moons. The rest you should be able to get samples of from the lab, or bottles if you're brave ;) And I agree, Nocnitsa sounds like it might be perfect =)

  14. I had to look it up since I havent tried it, and here are some notes and descriptions (mainly from me, but maybe they will come in handy for someone else too)

notes: basil blossom, heather, fir needle, sweet pea, fig, cut grass, cedar, oak, redwood, myrrh, labdanum, oakmoss, and vetiver.

The reviews of this fragrance are earthy, sparkling green, grassy, slightly wet/snow, woody, woodsy

    My recommendations to try out:

Nocnitsa - this one may be your best bet -- a lightless fir wood, nighttime air, wet forest mosses and upturned earth.

Niflheim - not floral to my nose, despite the desc - Dark, damp blossoms winding through an impenetrable, murky gloom.

Ulalume - leaves, wet, earthy, not so much on the woods or fir though

Black Forest - great foresty, not so much on the earthy though

Wolf Moon 04 - green woodsy, lighter, more slushy snow -- not so much on wood though

Wolf Moon 07 - very green woodsy - not so much on wood though

Nephilim - Holy frankincense and hyssop in union with earthy fig, defiled by black patchouli and vetiver, with a chaotic infusion of lavender, cardamom, tamarind, rosemary, oakmoss and cypress.

  15. have we seen the label for this year's Snow White?

I just got my decant circle shipment in the mail yesterday; haven't had time to take photos yet. I'll take some and get them up soon!

All of the yules (obviously not Nutcracker or Christmas Carol) that I received are the same label except, of course, for the perfume name. It's a beautiful design!

yay! I reordered this year's specifically hoping for a beautiful Yule label. I wasn't a fan of last year's labels, and wanted something different for my Snow White. Now, here's hoping that the oil is the same in this year's batch!
