    NIGHTMARE

    Nightmare, Nikolaj Abraham Abildgaard.

Vanilla-soaked linen accord with lavender, opium poppy, Moroccan jasmine, golden amber, white honey, and blackened fruit gums.

I'm a little surprised this one doesn't have reviews yet!

Ok so the first impression, wet and bottle was a very dry vanilla, something like linen, and the dark fruit - black currant maybe.

On, very wet, I get the lavender, and the linen and that same vanilla. This is not a sweet vanilla - the fruity part is far sweeter. I'm getting vague wafts of what might be the jasmine mixed with opium. Very faint on those though.

drying -- I get the opium stronger now -- the overall impression if a cool, dark, sweet opium (probably the lavender/dark fruits contributing to that effect since I dont smell them specifically now), and a truly lovely linen

eta: a bit drier and its mostly lavender/dark fruit/linen with a very undercurrant of opium

  2. Hi everyone,

I am going to a gothic-themed party of a friend. I have just dyed my hair blue-black. I think I will wear red lipstick,

    dark eyeshadow and pale foundation.

My shoes look quite alike these shoes: http://www.wonderlandconsignmentshop.com/products/detail/140

I couldn't decide what to wear as a perfume. I am usually fond of cold flowers like violet. I want something sophisticated and dark also.

    Waiting for your recommondations :wub2:

Darkling Thrush =) (warm amber, soft orris, and melancholy violet.)

  3. I've really wanted a dark fruit/musk scent, but none of the big popular ones worked for me. This is sufficiently different I guess, because this is a smash hit on my skin. Fruity without being little girl at all, this is lush and dead sexy on my skin. Love this so much =) The amber is gorgeous and I'm thinking the kewda is what's so honeyed floral and beautiful in this...

  4. honestly, since its so many angles, its not the scent itself that will do this for you, but what the scent does for YOU that makes you attract that attention. Look for a scent that makes you feel strong and stand up straighter and make eye contact more aggressively -- the scent equivalent of wearing red, or a power tie ;)

For me, that scent is one of these:

Antikythera Mechanism - Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco.

Illustrated Woman - Skin musk, smoky vanilla, pine pitch, patchouli, Indian resins, golden honey, and tobacco.

  5. ----I didnt get a very specific blood from anything -- BUT, to evoke the feeling of it, and the metallic twang a bit as well -- I would try:

Blood Garden (Blood accord, bitter clove, English ivy, Tempranillo grape, red currant, oak, leather, blackberry leaf, and ginger lily) - this one is more complicated, but the closest to a realistic blood (plus other things)

----not all of these smell like actual, realistic blood - however - I think you should try these as well because they have their own blood-related merits:

Blood Moon (three versions to work with!) these are actually the least like blood to my nose.

Blood (Essence of dragon’s blood resin, thickened with myrrh and cherry, with a trickle of clove.) this really does have a husky, thick, life-heavy feeling to it.

Blood Pearl (soft orris, blood musk, and coconut.) indescribable. the sexy side of blood.

Blood Kiss (Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.) I dont get blood from this BUT throbbing is a good word for this one

Blood Amber (warm, pulsating blood forever crystallized in golden amber resin) - I remember this one feeling thick, and its worth a test

  6. I can't believe this little gem doesnt get more love! Is it the civet scaring you away? Give this one a test, it really is jsut a drop, so you can't smell it on its own. I mostly smell orris/iris, with just an undercurrent of sage -- this is a sparkling scent. Now, granted this is probably fairly aged at this point... but I love love this. Permanent bottle collection material here. Definitely wearing this summer =)

eta: I get a musky feel from this as well, I remember thinking this was like a sparkly white musk -- that must be the civet effect. Must track down more examples to test ;)

  7. Black Opal is fabulous (I was frimped! Yay!). I have a bottle in my order plan! ^_^ Antikythera Mechanism is also similarly fabulous--loving the black vanilla in it--but it's a bit too masculine for my own wearing. I'm tempted to get a bottle just to sniff though XD It smells delicious!

I too love Antikythera, and sometimes it is a bit much, even with how much I love it ;) -- You might try layering it with something to take the edge off -- my ideas to try might be: Dana O'Shee, Boo, Sachs, or something along those lines -- thinking soft, sweet, uncomplicated. (and all lovely vanillas in their own right!)

  8. I bought a partial bottle of Aremata Popoa, since I really love the imp I have, but they smell really different. My imp is fizzier and brighter. The bottle is like soda gone flat. Is it likely that my imp is much newer than my bottle? :(

I was frimped an imp of Aremata Popoa and fell in love with the fizzy blackberry booze. Then I ordered two bottles (right before they were discontinued this year) and they are completely different, way stronger on the rum almost buttery-caramel-like :ack: . It sounds like it's the other way around- your imp is probably older.

Ugggggghhh, that's exactly the difference, too! You think it'll improve with age or am I probably just out of luck?

I have no idea, I too really hope that the bottles ages into that lovely blackberry like in the imp. So far I have just sampled the bottle again and it isn't very similar yet. Maybe it will take a little more time...

I had this problem with Blue Fire. I was so desperate to get this bottle, my imp was gorgeous. My bottle... didnt do anythign for me. It was like the boring version of what I remembered. I'm wondering if I should try a different bottle, or just leave well enough alone ;)

  9. I actually wore Pain to my last dentist visit hehe - kept that tidbit to myself at the time ;)

Very fitting I'm sure, I'm resigned enough to the pokey instruments before I get to the dentist to want a scent reminder, though!

I love pain. The pennyroyal is loud...but the lavendar softens it a bit and it dries down beautifully.

I wish I had amped the lavender more, because it was almost wholly pennyroyal on me, and the lavender was just a weird, uncomfortable whisper in the background.

I thought of it more as a ward against Pain =) (as well as my private joke hehe)

  10. I never really thought any scent could disturb me, especially with BPAL being so fabulous, but I was a little concerned by Pain. Some people seem to think it's only "loudly" bright, but to me it smells like you're in a dentist's office with a bunch of violent-looking metal instruments, and oh, that "dentist" actually happens to be a crazed torturer. Not a comforting scent at all, I wanted it off of me. That being said, I actually tend to very much like "dark" scents, as I have an affinity for more unique smells. Pleasant ones -

  11. Off topic but tobacco does not equal a smokey smell. *shrugs*

As for honey, I'm really craving a dark honey scent. Most I tend to love are light and 'sunshiney' in feel, you know? Any recs for a honey blend with a darker feel?

you could try Anactoria. I think the musk part is stronger, but its definitely worth trying =) (Golden amber, white honey, red currant, daemonorops, kush, and Arabian musk.)

  12. I havent quite made up my mind about this one. I was hoping for mostly lilac and white musk. I do get mostly a gorgeous white musk, maybe the strongest white musk note from any I've tried with bpal. But the floral part is what has me undecided. It is pretty though, and white musk lovers and lilac lovers should give this a try!

  13. I tried this bottle, mainly because of how much I loved her sister Hope (which gave me hope coincidentally enough, to try rose in a few more things). I don't enjoy violet that much, generally I wont wear it at all... so back story aside:

This is stunning. The sugared note in Hope was what I really hoped for here, and it does not disappoint. The violet is pale and shimmery, and I smell what might be smoke or something musky underneath. I never really paid attention to the part of the description that said "Simplicity and innocence, gleefully despoiled" -- I think that's where this very wispy undercurrent comes from.

Anywho - I do adore it, and its taking a permanent place in my box, as one of only two violet loves ;)

  14. I've never realyl given this one a shot because of my fear of lemon (which seems to have abated, as lemon no longer smells like chemical cleaner to me, but like a sweeter citrus -- I prefer it over grapefruit by far!)

    anywho

zephyr has always been give to me as a rec for white musk which I love. So today, I wore it -- and it's a white musk stunner. Im sure the white and Chinese musks combine for the effect, and I get a hint of sweet lemony floral and maybe even the slight vanilla base. Its really hot out here right now, so this may have done better on my skin with the heat. This is now on my bottle-hunt list, and I love it!

  15. Are there any GC scents close to Cabaret.Goth? I have only my decant, and I don't know if I'm relieved or sad that the amber turned it all into powder for me! I'm already planning to get Zarita, the Doll Girl (with sugared cream and neroli) in my next order to give it a shot, but are there any truly GC scents that are similar, but without amber (and rose, rose hates me)?

The closest I have is Khrysee, not exactly a GC though -- its a bit sharper than Cabaret, lacks the amber depth as well...
