This is exactly my kind of scent. I only get a smidge of coconut, which is the note I was worried about being too strong. It has a fair resemblance to The Girl on my skin, but less sweet/amber. I can see the comparison to Snow White, except that this is muskier somehow - maybe the tobacco flower is that stronger, edgier backbone I smell here. I like that someone called this a femme oakmoss, I can see that too! so, a muskier Snow White, with a femme oakmoss edge =) Wishing for a bottle about now!

    Cathode

I had tried this once upon a time and marked it up as MINT, no thanks. I have been craving to retry it ever since, go figure. So I finally got my hands on an imp. First applied, it was exactly what I was craving. But my mint burns off super quick, and I'm left with a strong sticky ambergris with a hint of moss; the mint is left only as a cooler whiff. Wow, first time I wished a blend had more mint?!? I may try to reapply somewhere else -- its currently on the back of my hand.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I was coming to recommend, but all the good recs are out there I think! So I'll second these for simpler, age appropriate, vanilla for a 14 year old: Love's Philosophy Tamora Mouses Long and Sad Tale Black Opal Snow White (not exactly vanilla, but I bet she likes it!) I want to say Dorian so bad, but its dead sexy on me, so I just cant!

    Discussion of all things Amber

my two favorite ambers right now that seem to capture that sweet (although not powdery on me) amber effect: the Girl and Brisingamen. The Girl manages to be cold, while Brisingamen is sticky warm

    Pollution

I mostly smell the sweet green, then sweet amber, and then musk under. I really like thsi one, it fits my clean scents that I like so much, but is wildly different than the rest of the group!

    Aquatics

Arroyo Seco is an awfully nice aquatic too! I just got to try it today =) Havent heard much about it, but my sister lives in a place called Arroyo Seco, so its really just here temporarily! Anywho, its got that wet edge, but no ozone, a grassy kinda planty vibe, but dry and something creamy soft to it (not in a foody way at all, just the best word I could get)

    Hamadryad

Have I reviewed this yet? This is my second time to try it. THe notes say this should be PERFECT for me. Woods, lichen, gentle floral? I was hoping for mostly woods, which with 7 woods should be a safe bet. But no. I get wintergreen (I guess) Its so strong, that on my first try, I labeled this licorice hehe. NOw I will say that if you can wait for that to burn off you get what this should be. Now on my hand, I smell a gently camphor-minted woody/licheny smell. I just can't handle that wintergreen stage.

    Brisingamen

Wet this was vague and pleasant and so soft. I've tested this once before and found it unremarkable. I tested it by itself this time so I could really pay attention to it. The dry down is worth it. Thick, rich gold amber, slightly spicy, very slightly floral.
  14. jizatt

    fizzy, sorta carbonated, sparkling blends?

Whitechapel was like fuzzy, fizzy lemonade on me
  15. jizatt

    Violens

oh wow -- skin testing this on myself right now, still wet but had to come post. This is so distracting on my own skin, that I may have to go to exteme measures to get hubby to try this one on his skin. I smell very very smooth rich sandalwood. I dont separately smell leather but I think its what is giving the richness to what I smell. It also has that velvet quality that musks get on my skin. This may be hubby's first BPAL induction. It wont be one for my skin but i do plan to test a layer with Sachs

    Snooty Rose

Wet my first impression was - this is the rose I dont like. But I let it dry. Now I smell what has to be the plum underneath and a smoothness that might be from the sandalwood. My current theory is that certain collections share a common base, like how the mad tea party scents all smell, something alike even when they dont really. I smell mad tea party here - a slightly sugary, light quality. I like this one and it might be one of the few roses I keep =) No bottle, but to the imp collection
  17. Black Forest - Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress -- not wintry but really nice velvet forest sexy muskyness (I happen to love this on myself just sos ya know, but it would be divine on guy skin) and I havent tried it yet, but Ded Moroz sounds like it might be perfect for what you want (golden amber, white amber, redwood, teak, bois du rose, sage, tree moss, and snow)

Oh how she loves the pretty pepper

Here are a few more blends for you to check out: (you can do a search on the lab site that will give you at least the current scents with your search term) Clemence - Patchouli, Kashmiri tea, cardamom, black pepper, carnation, and clove Hand of Glory - Beeswax, dry leather, black pepper, saltpeter, nutmeg, Mysore sandalwood, and oak bark Rumpelstiltzchen - Firewood and ash with an oddly otherworldly blend of patchouli, cardamom, nutmeg, black pepper, tonka, vetiver, and myrrh Ifrit - Desert sand, red musk, blackened ginger, dragon's blood resin, black pepper, cinnamon, and tobacco Wrath - dragon's blood spiked with black pepper, clove, and cinnamon Carceri d'Invenzione - Redwood, red sandalwood, black pepper, blonde tobacco and frankincense La Mort qui Danse - Black pepper, white ginger, Calla lily, and lily of the valley Three Gorgons - Egyptian amber, mandarin, tangerine, black pepper, tobacco, and vetiver

    PURPLE!

Yvaine - but its the softest purple ever
  20. jizatt

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

I have two imps of Glowing Vulva -- one is more reddish and one is gold -- the red was my first GV imp, the gold was a newer addition -- but honestly, shouldnt they be the same age? They do smell similar, although a tad different (one smells .... sharper somehow? the gold I think)
  21. jizatt

    Raven Moon

I wish I liked the wet as much as I like the drydown. Wet: very glossy black spiked with unmistakable chili powder and maybe pepper. Its very nice, but its not me. Dry: the darkest vanilla ever. This, I would wear. I wish it was closer to this the whole time though.

    Whoso List To Hunt

I cant believe this isnt getting more love! I guess the rose is scaring everyone off, and when I first put it on thats what I smell. Strong rose at first, but it quickly lays down into the complex smell that I really really wanted. Now it is this stunning bronze amber mossy-bark smell. I cant keep my nose from the back of my hand.
  23. jizatt

    Where is this scent?

http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=52...hl=wood+phoenix (Ephemera's answer is much better than my little link hehe - and I concur)
  24. jizatt

So you're devastated about Antique Lace...

Morocco was fairly close on my skin. Its spicier of course, and missing the linen twang thing, but still a similar smell.
