    Glowing Vulva at Ryogoku Bridge

This is a really beautiful scent. Initially, I thought it was a bit sweet and wasn't that impressed. I got mainly vanilla out of it, no woods. However, now after 8 hours, the amber has blended in so nicely, balancing the sweetness. It's a really warm scent. Wish I could find a bottle. I just got an imp of Black Opal today and on drydown, Black Opal smells so much like Glowing Vulva...almost exactly the same.

    Temple Viper

Not bad. No sign of snake oil, however. I do get a touch of that grape soda scent, but it's not artificial smelling. I think I much prefer Boomslang and Death Adder. Will give it another go before I decide.

    The Candy Butcher 2006

This is what sticking your face in an ice cream sundae with chocolate, caramel and whipped cream would smell like. Too sweet or just maybe too artificial for me. I don't do well with caramel as I am finding out. edit: It reminds me of Bath and Body Works Whipped Cream, which I didn't like. Smelled like that whipped cream in the aerosol can. I have had worse though and I can see people who love sweet things, really going for this. It's just not my thing.

    Death Adder

Just got a decant of this and I have to say I love it. Smells a bit like Snake charmer. I am not sure what vetiver smells like, but it has a scent similar to sandlewood. Sort of reminds me of velvet, but instead of the chocolate, there's coconut. Where Velvet is overwhelmingly sandlewood, this is subtle and gets increasingly better and sweeter as it dries down. MMe Moriarty didn't work on me at all and it's suppose to smell like Snake Charmer. That was medicinal like moth balls. This is lovely. Edit 6/9/08- The Vetiver got to me on the second try. Took too long for me to finally like it (vetiver lasted over hour). Not worth the wait. Not sure why the change the second time.

Oils making my skin dry, help!

I have Cetaphil. I will use it and hopefully there won't be a problem If there are scents you really love but find you can't wear on your skin, you can always try them in your hair or in a scent locket, as well.

Oils making my skin dry, help!

Now you got me worried! It doesn't look red, just rough areas. I know that when I tried Sea Glass, my skin itched like crazy and I scratched it so much that it was raw. Then when I applied an oil after that it stung. I know, it's stupid, but when you are addicted you do stupid things. So now I avoid those aquatics or any oil that itches. So far I am safe with the ones I own like Snake Oil, Snake Charmer, Dan O Shee, Antique Lace, Morocco, Chry. Moon (seems okay so far), Gingerbread Poppet, Smut, Boomslang and Scherezade (have to retry to make sure) . I think it's the flower blends, except Chrys. Moon for some reason. Moon Rose also made me itch. I am applying alot of oil and maybe stay away from the oils until it clears, then try again with more caution. Well, if it becomes bad...there will be alot of good BPAL up for sale!!!!!!!!!!!

Spice me, baby! The spiciest BPAL blends

HI, I also like warm and spicy. I have tried Bengal but on me it's way too much honey in the dry down. Starts off cinnamon, but then the honey just amps. I have that problem with anything with honey in it. I liked Silk Road much better. Definitely a lighter version. I also love Morocco. While it's not spicy, it doesn't have that incensey smell to it. It all depends on chemistry because on me it's a heavier smell and on my daughter you can really smell the vanilla, but it's not like a vanilla candle. It's a warm spicy smell with a touch of vanilla on her. Lovely. The Lion is nice, but I prefer Bastet or Brisingamen more. However, people like it on me. Port a Price was nice also but faded quickly on me. I also liked Sudha Segara. It's more ginger on me than creamy. A very clean scent and I don't know why I haven't bought it yet. It would be lovely for the summer. I want to try Chimera also. I love Dragon's Milk after the initial blast of cherry. It was absolutely beautiful on my daughter. None of the ones listed will leave you smelling like incense.

    Snake Charmer

Indulged and spent a fortune to get a half bottle of this infamous scent. It is absolutely uncharacteristic of me to spend so much on such a small thing. Well, it was worth it, and I don't feel guilty. Why, Oh why, don't they bring this scent back so we don't have to sell our first born just to try it. Those lucky few who have known BPAL for years are making fortunes off of us newbies. Please bring it back, please!!!!!!!!!!!

    Honey and Beeswax scents

I amp honey. Bengal is very sweet, cinnamon honey. Overly strong in the beginning. Not my favorite. O is also pure honey on me. More tolerable than Bengal for sure and lasts all day long. Alice is honey with a slight carnation, but since I amp the honey and eat the flower, it too smells just like pure honey on me. It's the lightest of the three. My favorite honey and the only one I wear in Dan'O'Shee. It's a softer, creamier honey. AFter the initial almond extra smell, which on me lasts about 2 minutes, it's comforting creamy honey. Sudha Segara was like a soapy ginger on me. No honey in it. Very light scent. Haven't tried any others because I now stay away since I know it will be the only note in the BPAL that I get.

BPAL for Working Around or With Animals?

My cats go nuts over Smut. When I wear it or any other BPAL with musk in it, they are all over me. They can't get close enough.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

Hi,Thank you. I am fairly new to BPAL so I am just learning what works on me and what doesn't. Actually, I just put my Rose Red up for sale on Ebay. I hated to do it, but I find that although I love to smell it in the bottle, I just don't reach for it at all. I just liked knowing it was there. Sort of like when you do your spring cleanout of clothing and you hold onto clothes you never wear because you hate to give them up. I do wear Moon Rose because it's lighter. You are right...I do wear anything with vanilla well, and I never thought I was a "vanilla person". I only have a few weeks, so I got to get my order in. In my possession I now have:Antique Lace, Dan O'Shee, Morocco, Smut, Sin, Scherezade, Snake Oil, Boomslang, O (which on me is just like Dan O'Shee, Danube, Bathsheba, Amsterdam, Velvet, and awaiting Snake Charmer, Chrysanthemum Moon, Red moon and Mme Moriarty all which I haven't tried yet . The only ones that are bottles are the first 8, except Sin, which is an imp. I am selling my Rose Cross without even smelling it. I felt overwhelmed with too many scents. I hate when I give something away and then it's recommendedI will go read up on your recommendations. I am planning to place a new order this weekend anyway. .Thanks,DeniseJust lost my edit so here it goes again.Snow White was all coconut on me , like a cheap car air freshener. Too badI haven't tried anythng with lavender yet, so that sounds like a new direction to explore.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

Hi, I have two weddings to go to and was wondering what is your favorite BPAL to wear? Both occasions are in June and both are formal. Thanks, Denise

    Velvet

This is a beautiful scent. I usually have trouble finding BPALS I like, so this was a treasured gift. I received it as a frimp with my last purchase of Boomslang. I have to say it's similar in that the dark chocolate isn't foody but soft. Velvet dries to sexy but bit powdery scent that lasts and lasts. It gets sweeter after time. Yes, there is a nice mingle of sandlewood but I don't get any pencil shavings. And after 2 hours of so the sandlewood mellows to a soft vanilla mixed in. I put it on last night and it lasted close to 9 hours. Given a choice of Velvet or Boomslang, I think I would choose velvet, but I haven't worn Boomslang all day yet. Edit: After wearing this 3 times now, I am thinking the sandlewood is getting to me. I like tht it isn't all chocolate at all, but my husband said it smelled like baby powder. Still not sure about it. A little too overwhelming sandlewood.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

With many of the florals, I get a rash. Very itchy. Especially Sea of Glass, Rose Moon, Amsterdam and Danube. If I wear any of the BPALS for too many consecutive days my skin gets rough and itchy..

    Bastet

So far I have tried The Lion, Lyonesse and now Bastet. The Lion didn't wow me, but my daughter seems to like it on me. Lyonesse is just too sweet vanilla. Not much depth. When I first put on Bastet, I though "oh no, smells like Dan O'shee", which I like but didn't want another duplicate scent. Or I was afraid it was similar to Bengal or Alice-both which have that strong honey note that I amp. I thought I detected honey or cinnamon and it was strong. I started to think it was too perfumey. But then things quieted down and it has gotten very soft and lovely, but still going strong. This is one I think I will really like when I am not testing 4 imps at once. Out of all the ambers, I think I really like this one so far and the throw seems better than most. So far, so good. This may warrant a full bottle.

    Jack

I finally broke down an ordered an imp of Jack. I bought Pumpkin Queen and Pumpkin V off Ebay. Both of which I don't really like that much. and I probably will send them off to someone who loves them. They both tend to smell like buttered popcorn and I think the red musk in PQ just doesn't work with me. However, I think I may like this one. Not sure if it's bottle worthy yet, but it initially has a green note to it, which cuts the butter. I can detect a bit of apple or something sweet. Not quite peach, which others have said. I don't get the spices which I would have liked. While it doesn't give me that sweet baked pumpkin pie feel, I can see this being really nice for the Fall. Kind of what I was hoping Samhain would be like. But alas, that one turned to moth balls on me. This one definitely surprised me in a good way.

    Tezcatlipoca

Here goes my chemistry again. The dark chocolate fades so quickly. All that is left is smoke, like burnt wood in a fireplace. No chocolate and no flowers what so ever. I don't mind not smelling the flower note, bur where did the chocolate go? And it was so promising in the bottle. Maybe I will give it another try and see if either it ages or my chemistry changes.

The scents that get you the most compliments?

I had the same experience with Snake Oil. I tend to wear my BPAL scents when I am not working. I guess I feel it's safer in case I smell weird. I went to the bagel store and a man next to me casually said I smelled good. He asked if I was wearing Moroccan spice or something. I told him it was a new perfume and after his comment I think I will wear it more often. It wasn't a pick up line at all, which really made me appreciate the comment and the Snake Oil. He just took his order and said "have a nice day" . I used to think BPAL scents were mainly about how they make you feel. But I am beginning to see that some of them do have a nice effect on people who notice something in the air. They aren't scents that hit you in the face like many commercial perfumes. I also notice my cat has a very strong reaction to Smut. When I put some on at night before bed, he will perk up and starts kneading me. I literally have to push him off of me. This has happened on 3 occasions so I know it's not a coincidence.
  19. When I first tried BPAL, this past November, I was one of those weirdos. I got an imp of Snake Oil and ended up giving it away. Then my taste broadened and I really love it now. I know everyone says it gets better with age, but I use it now and ended up ordering a bottle(awaiting it's arrival). Is there any possibility of releasing Snake Charmer again? Denise
  20. After reading so many reviews, Snake Charmer is one I would love to try. Unfortunately, when it is on Ebay, my budget just can't go that high and I am not that great on bidding. My heart starts beating out of control. Any similar scens that are more readily available?? Thanks, Denise

    O

AFter reading the reviews I knew I would either love it or hate it. Well, I don't exactly hate it but I tend to amp anything with honey in it. O was very disappointing in that all I got was honey. Not even a trace of amber. The same thing happened with Alice. All honey, no flowers, . I see nothing sexy about O. My chemistry just eats up everything but the honey. Dan O'Shee is enough of honey for my taste.

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

When wet this is very sweet for my taste. I does dry down to a lighter vanilla scent. Apparently it lasts long because after wearing it for 8 hours , a friend gave me a hug and said I smelled very good. I like it but prefer Antique Lace.

    Amsterdam

I love this! I hadn't the faintest idea what tulips actually smelled like when reading the description. However, after receiving my imp it actually does capture the smell of tulips. Not sweet or overly florally. Has a green note which takes the floral down a notch. Similiar to Danube, but Danube was a stronger floral on me- more lily I think. Where Amsterdam is green, Danube is lily. This is the perfect Spring scent. I am one of the lucky ones who can wear aquatic scents. They actually work very well on me. The only problem with Amsterdam is that it fades so quickly that you have to keep smelling your wrist to get a trace of it. If only it lasted longer, I would buy a full bottle. Danube does last longer, but I think I will just stick with my imp for now.

    Bengal

A sultry and unruly blend that emulates the ambient scent of the markets in ancient Bengal: skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger. Starts off a strong honey cinnamon then after 30 minutes mellows down. I like it but not enough to buy a bottle. Actually prefer Morocco much more.

    Lyonesse

I was looking for a perfect amber, but this wasn't it. Nothing special. Very sweet and not complex. It almost had a pina colada smell to it on me. Never changed from wet to dry. I liked The Lion much better. It's just a matter of chemistry as I am finding out.
