    Velvet

I'd heard that this would be a lovely backup for 13 (oct 06), my favorite scent so far, so it was on my wishlist. The ever-gregarious alterosen frimp'd me it Sad to say, though, I don't think that this will fit the bill for me as a 13 replacement, at least, not by itself. There is a similar woody/chocolate-y smell that 13 (oct 06) shares, but the difference is the weight of this scent in comparison. I believe the sandalwood in this is not the same, and is probably making the difference (this one doesn't specify what kind of sandalwood is in here; 13's formulation specifies Mysore). Whereas my beloved 13 is rather lightly woody, and well-balanced by the other components, floral and fruit, this one is overpoweringly woodsy. It might be the myrrh and the sandalwood ganging up on me to make mischief, but all I can smell from this is very dusty, musty pencil shavings and a smattering of old vanilla beans and chalky chocolate. It'll be off to swaps for this one if it doesn't play nicely with Bliss - I'm thinking about layering the two to get more of a "13" smell.

    Rozpustnica

Swap with alterosen Preconceived notions: I am a lover of roses and lemon, and like white musk well enough. So I was really looking forward to something like a lovechild of Delirium and Urania or something. Starts lemony, almost Pledge cleaner-like. Then it dries a little and turns flowery, but still fresh. I did not get a hint of the rose at all - in fact, it turned rather soapy and powdery on me, which I think was the magnolia and possibly the blue musk asserting themselves. All in all, a very light, floral scent, but not what I was looking for. Off to swaps!

    Eris

Frimp from swap with Suu4LC Oh, Eris, what havoc have ye wrought upon my skin! Smelling from the imp (as in, w/o opening it and sniffing at the wafting smell on the label), it smelled lovely - fruity/floral-y. But alas, when I put it on, it was like Mi-Go Brain Canister gone horribly wrong. I didn't care so much for Mi-Go Brain Canister for a similar plasticky/fake fruity smell that Eris shares, but in addition to this, I get something that I can only describe as smelling of excrement and rot. It is actually making me feel physically ill to smell it. I'm afraid this one is off to swaps!

    Fragrances similar to "Flowerbomb"

Spot on! I swapped for an imp of 13 (oct 06/orange label) in hopes that it would be like Flowerbomb, because someone else had mentioned on another thread that they were similar. They smell very similar to me - 13 is perhaps a little less rose-y/floral at times, but still gorgeous and soft; 13 is also a little woodier, to my nose. If you can find it, I think it makes a good substitue.

    Calliope

Ordered from the lab just before it was discontinued. in the imp: Whoa! Thyme! Very much agreed that it smells like a kitchen while making coq au vin. It was almost a put off how strongly it smelled of sharp, fresh thyme; maybe it was the verbena making it sharp. on skin: It started sweet and rather citrusy - verbena/orange goodness! - which was fleshed out with a sweet, milky scent (almond?). Hooray! Then, in a few minutes, it started smelling like...Playdoh . Boo! I blame the bergamot, since Alice went funky on me too, but in a different way. I like lavender and mint a lot, and was sad that I never smelled them .

    Alice

Imp from the gregarious AleciaR . Preconceived notions: Mmm, I likes me some milk & honey with rose petals! Wearing, it was completely different....my skin latched onto the bergamot and carnation and went mad. I smelled nothing but bergamot, a warm herbally business, laced with carnation, which was soft but not especially sweet. Bergamot is also in Calliope, which didn't fare well with me either, but that scent went wrong in a different way. Alice surprised me, since with the other rose blends I've tried, rose has paraded around and tended to show itself very nicely. Wonder why my skin didn't like it this time? Oh well.

    Polyhymnia

... Orris root, white sage, rowan bark and red sandalwood, with myrrh, rosemary, lemon balm and honeysuckle. Ordered an imp from the lab just before it was discontinued. This started as a wonderful lemon balm, which smells fresh like lemons, but much warmer and almost earthy. Then, in the span of a few minutes, it turned to Johnson and Johnson's baby powder . I think it was the orris root - the same happened with Vampire Tears, which has iris in it.

    The Star

I had the same experience! I got this as a frimp from Pika . The Star smelled like toasted/burnt coconut meat splashed with over-warm milk, all charred and reeking of that off scent that heated milk or fat has. I never even caught a whiff of lime. I might be a little off on the "100% icky coconut" notion, though, since I avoided smelling it too much while it was on - it slightly nauseated me, but that's due to the unfortunate association I have of sickness with toasted coconut (the worse flu I've ever had manifested right after eating some coconut shrimp...Needless to say, I can't bear the smell of them anymore.) (edit b/c i mixed up who it was who sent me this)

    Vampire Tears

I got this as a frimp from the wonderful AleciaR. At first, this smelled lemony-citrusy and a tad sharp (the ginger/grapefruit/neroli/green tea cocktail?), but not as sharp as the ginger present in Kumiho. It smelled quite like Phantasm (which, coincidentally, I tested at the same time) - they both have green tea, jasmine and neroli - but the lemon verbena brightened Phantasm in comparison. Then in a few minutes it went funky, and it smelled JUST like Polyhymnia did on me when it turned, like Johnson and Johnson's baby powder. The only ingredient they have in common is iris (orris root is from irises) so I'm pinning that as the offender. Mixing in behind the powder were some very "wistful" florals - the honeysuckle, mostly. I say "wistful" because that's what mood/image it provoked - faded memories, like dust in an attic filtered through August sunlight. It's too bad it turned powdery on me, since I rather liked the initial scent.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

To me, Midnight Kiss and Blood Kiss smell almost exactly the same. Blood Kiss is a tad spicier.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Take a look at ladymissspyder's post in this same thread: Hope that solves your problem
  12. I myself am still a teenager, and my tastes run the gamut, though I lean towards sweeter, fruity/foody/some floral scents most times. What you choose for her is dependent on her personality and how she'd like to project herself, I think. I only have eight scents as of now, and here would be how I'd categorize them. A fun, fruity scent that might suit for an effervescent girl (think Escada's Rockin' Rio, or sugary candied fruits) would be Swank. I like that for when I want to be bubbly and less serious. A calmer, green herbal that might suit a "tree-hugger" or tomboy who hates "smelling like perfume" is Envy; I like this for an everyday, low-key sort of attitude. Similar to that is Kumiho (similar to the sharp scent of ckOne at first that mellows later), but a little more flowery/girly than Envy, bordering on soapy. Envy is much more herbal than Kumiho. If woodsy is more her thing, then Vinland is nice - it starts out very woodsy and mossy then becomse a little more like berries or fruits. But it does smell a little like some air fresheners... I definitely think that Persephone, Urania and London are too full-bodied and mature sort of scents for teenagers in most cases, since they're full-on feminine. Persephone is for a girl reeking of charisma who dresses to the nines and is proud of it; London for the romantic who likes the smell of real roses; and Urania for the dreamer who enjoys a soft, complex white floral, one that, like her personality, you'd have to get closer to in order to really understand it. Again, it really depends on her tastes...and also, my opinion is probably not the most informed. I'm just going off of what I currently posses and have smelled. I hope this helps some~
