    Eisheth Zenunim

In the imp: Peach, honey and neroli. Sweet, very girlish. On wet: The peach disappears. The honey dives down. Cocoa, ambergris, patchouli, and quite honestly, a little piss come to the fore. Dry: Sir says it smells of apricots. Thankfully the piss is gone. (Whilst it may smell like Paris, it's not my thing.) Cocoa, peach, honey, patchouli and neroli, with a little ambergris, in that order. I like it, though I don't think I'll go for a bottle. I have another imp coming, so I'll dump them both in a roller bottle and top it off with jojoba oil. Save the vials as sniffies to give away.

    Are oils toxic if ingested?

Call the poison control center. Ask them. Put him on the phone and have them explain it again. Sixteen-year-old boys--the only thing potentially stupider is 16-year-old girls.

    Lemon, Lemon, Lemony Goodness

oakmoss, I used to SLATHER myself in Love's Fresh Lemon and would adore it if I could find a BPAL that was close. Closest I've come is Whitechapel, which I love, but it isn't quite right.

    Hay Moon

In the bottle: Cardamom, an almost chemical scent. I totally understand the "old-skool OFF!" comment. Fortunately, wet: Amber waves of grain, I kid you not. The amber is at the forefront, then comes the cardamom. As it dries, the grasses and wheat come out, and beneath it all is the dry honey. It's just guh. Both Hay Moon and Mead Moon are perfect late summer scents; you can almost smell the heat coming off the fields in both of them. I wrote a story about two lovers in a hay field (big difference from a hay loft), and Hay Moon is what it smells like. It even has the faint scent of clean sweat! love love love both moons this time.

    Mead Moon

I'm really glad I like this, because I spilled it on myself! In the bottle: *this close* to Sweet-Tarts! Spilled all over me: ZOMG. Honey and lemon and rosemary, over a cushion of the spices. Nicely blended and just...ZOMG...I smell like a summer tisane!

    Alas! Almond!

    Ephemera

In the imp: Violet and...pineapple?! Seriously, I smelled candied pineapple in there... Wet: A lovely, soft, sweet violet, rich but not heavy. Dry: Violet and muguet, tea rose, and at the very back, the dry leaves and a little geranium. Really one of the loveliest of BPAL's violet scents. This is not an everyday scent; it reminds me of dressing up and having some place fancy to go to. If it were the 40s, I'd wear this out on the town for cocktails and a dinner show, then romantic dancing afterwards. Something you wear with furs, an evening gown, and a hat with a veil. I'll have to see what Sir thinks.

    Haloes

In the imp, the first thing I smell is sugar, like a candy apple. It's very, very sweet, almost too sweet. I think it's the apricot and vanilla together. Wet: It's still very sweet. It keep shifting from caramel to candy apple. Not sure about this; I have lots of caramel-type smells and I'm not sure I want another. Dry: In a word, superb. My skin amps vanilla and amber, and those are the main hits, with the tonka, sandalwood and oak as foundation. I can't smell any of the lily of the valley, which is a pity because I love it, and the caramel/candy apple smell is completely gone. I get a little sparkle of the ginger, but not much. Way in the back there's the apricot. Mostly this is the woods, the tonka, the amber and the vanilla, and it's an effort not to sniff my wrist. On me, this is perfectly blended. Sir said, "Yep, a keeper." Somehow I must obtain a bottle.

    Stormclouds Over The Midway

In the imp and wet: Incense and opium, definitely plum-colored, thick, smoky and a little bitter. Dry: Out comes the ozone. Still very incense-and-opium-smoky, but smoke with impending rain and lightning looming over it threatening to blow it out of the air. On the right guy this would be hypnotic, even though it reads a little feminine; there's something very menacing about it. It's quite "toppy." I keep hearing "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove"...

    The Blockhead

Imp: Just weird. Sweet and...odd Wet: Pink bubblegum, big time Initial drydown: The bubblegum fades fast and I'm left with a very smooth masculine but not too masculine scent. A little woody (heh), a little spicy, a little leathery--I really like it! ETA: either this doesn't have much stay, or my nose gets inured to this very quickly... Update: Put this on the hubby and INSTANT SWOON. Getting a bottle.

    The Grindhouse

In the imp: Elusive. I pick up the vanilla and musk first, maybe the mimosa and clove. Wet: Ooh, here comes the iris and clove. Yikes! Here comes clove, looking for iris's lunch money! Iris retreats. On drydown: Apparently sated, the clove fades and now I'm getting the musk and rose, with a whiff of the vanilla and floating over the top, the iris. My verdict: MMmmm. Sir's verdict: "Not my favorite, but not bad." Probably not a bottle, but happy to have the decant. Into the girl box it goes. Later: Now that Grindhouse has been on a while, the vanilla is finally at the surface, sharing with the red musk. The clove is back, but much better behaved. Sir and I have changed our verdict. Mixed with, uh, pheromones? This is intoxicating. ahem.

    Meadow scents!

Passionate Shepherd--one of my all-time faves that I wish I had five bottles of--Glasgow, Fairy Wine, Fairy Market (though I lean more toward Wine), Beltane '08, April Fool '08.

    To a Woman

I smell nothing but wood--on the cedar end of things, not the sandalwood end of things, which makes it deadly on me. This rates a "meh."

    Defututa

The "let's discuss the GC" threads have me going through and trying things that have been sitting in the Squee Box unloved. This was one. I amp honey and vanilla, and those are the two strongest notes followed by the champaca. It's a warm, lulling scent. The hubby came into the room a while ago and gave a big thumbs up.

    Al-Shairan

The husband says it smells like a head shop, but in a pleasantly citrusy way. I agree. Looking forward to trying it on him; it works on me.

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

I am not a spreadsheet person; I am a database person. And I like doing things online as much as possible. Which makes it a good thing that I'm a web developer. Would the Lab kill me do you think if I started an online database site for people to track scents--BPAL and otherwise? I wouldn't charge for people to use it, and I wouldn't duplicate the forums etc that already exist out there--no swappage or sales or conversations or anything, just a way to track your smellies and opinions of same. I already have a domain, perfoom.com.

    Nanny Ashtoreth

I LOVE this. I cannot wait to slather the husband in it--I get far too masculine a hit on it with my chemistry, but on the right woman--rwowr! I smell a lot of pipe tobacco. This is a Nanny as played by a panto Dame--she's a man, baby!

ALMOND! GAH! DO NOT WANT!! ahem. BPAL almond just will not play nice on my skin. at all, at all.

    Marae

I feel like Polynesia. *swoon* Incredibly heady monoi and gardenia, mellowing at the end to the vanilla orchid and incense. My only complaint is that it doesn't have much stay on me, like under 2 hours.

    Boo Bam

OMG! OMG!!! Tangy, something citrusy (probably the hibiscus), green...I'm speechless, I'm in love! First must-have bottle of the Atomic Luaus!! ETA: This drove me nuts, what did it smell like--it's Hawaiian Punch!! That scent fades into this lovely mysterious green, but the first impression is overwhelmingly that favorite of us children of the '60s, Hawaiian Punch.

    Beltane 2008

The first thing I smelled, both in the bottle and on, is Baby Magic lotion! Which, luckily, I love! Now that it's dry, I get lily of the valley and thyme mostly. I like it, a lot, though it doesn't have much throw or staying power.

    Springtime scents

Spring, oh gosh: Passionate Shepherd is spring in a bottle, completely, utterly, amazingly spring. It's heartstopping. Also April Fool, Beltane 08, Alice, and strangely, Iambe.

    April Fool

Right out of the bottle the hubby smelled berries and I smelled green. On, the huckleberry is the base, with a sharp, clean green overtone that is the parsley, I'm guessing. Dry, I get the huckleberry and lemon blossom, with tangerine, nicotiana () and rose in that order, and the parsley is almost gone. Not a ton of throw, and not a lot of stay. The kids like it, the hubby likes it, I'm glad I have a bottle because this is a happy daytime warm weather scent.

    Red Lantern

When I was younger I would have gone for this big time. Now, it's a little too dark and masculine. On me it goes on sweet and dries to a deep tobacco. I like smelling it, but not on me. I could see this on a guy really easily. I'm going to make the boy put some on.

    Anactoria

Amber, honey, musk, currant--what could go wrong? Luckily, this time, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Drop dead amazing gorgeous snoggable nothing wrong. Which makes no sense, but that's what this reduces me to. Unlike Death Cap, my standard for raw sex to which other scents may only aspire, this is sweet but sophisticated, with a little edge. I can wear this in public and feel sexy, whereas with Death Cap I feel like my husband is pressed up behind me with his hands on my breasts. Because he usually is when I'm wearing Death Cap. (Your Mileage May Vary.) Actually, I'm going to try layering this with Death Cap. I just kinda have a hunch it'd work. Bottle-worthy. Very bottle-worthy.
