  1. I get a vetiver note from this and something boozy, with hints of baked goods and wood. I sprayed it lightly in my bathroom because that's the smallest room in my place, and it smelled like that space had absolutely hosted travelers and they had gotten into quite a bit of fun. ;)

  2. This was a big surprise to me and not in a good way....

I was secretly hoping a Come to Me oil from BPAL might smell of red musk or honey or coconut, or something hypnotic and sexy. There's virtually NO way a man would Come to Me wearing this unless (like a member mentioned earlier) he had a secret fetish for the smell of laundry soap and plug-ins.

On the effective front, my crush actually called me by my first name today and walked away quickly (usually he smiles like he might stumble over his own feet, looks longer than he needs to, and asks me how my day is going) I guess he was NOT smitten by the smell of clean cotton :(

  3. This is a beautiful oil that works AMAZINGLY well. I've been going through a lot of changes in my personal life and am feeling rather fragile and not protected. I apply to my chakra points with special attention to my root chakra (basically the base of my spine) and then drive in to work. It usually takes about 40 minutes for the oil to fully sink in but it's pretty great when it does, I can tell immediately. It's not as if I have more courage or feel extra strength, it's as if all the extra chatter in my head, the nervous chatter, is silenced and although it doesn't take anything away, it numbs the parts of my life that seem extra painful and I don't focus as much of my attention to them.

I wonder if there is valerian root in this blend mainly because of the calming influence.

The scent, by the way, is AMAZING! It's the prettiest oil I have ever smelled... Like warm bundled hay bordering on a field of honeyed flowers that scent the air with enchanted fairy dust. The floral smell is less flowers and more softness, like vanilla orchids that dry down to a vanilla powder. Enchanting, really.

I agree that this is a FANTASTIC oil for anxiety / depression and although I don't notice it giving me any more strength (Lionheart was a complete bust for me and I noticed nothing when I used it) Crucible of Courage helps me feel less exposed, less fragile, and less emotionally responsive.

  4. I totally agree with the old-fashioned vibe! I am actually really surprised by this, I thought I would dislike it because of the association of the "lead" note and the honey--which honestly never smells sexy on me. This perfume though... WOW! Makes me think of putting on special pink lace lingerie and special stockings that I usually never wear to work because they are too expensive. The powder note is most noticeable to me but that's okay because I actually love a good powder note. This is so pretty! I'll probably pick up two bottles :wub2:

  5. It's a miracle. I have finally found my lilac scent! I love lilac, but my skin devours it within half an hour. While Misery isn't as long-lived as I'd like it to be, it stays around for a lot longer. Even better, it's buttressed but not overpowered by violet and lavender, other scents that I also adore. I get something a bit sweet in this as well that I think is the tea. I don't smell saffron.

I agree! The lilac lingers around here for a long time! There's a stage to the perfume that actually smelled like freshly- cut spring lilacs. So pretty. The other notes balance everything.

  6. On my skin, this is intense. It also reminds me of Persian sweets - lots of rosewater and almond. I don't get any patchouli or jasmine at first. As it dries it becomes less candy-like, but still too much for me.

Yep, me too! Rosewater and honey with a hint of almond. Patchouli made no appearence :( This isn't very interesting or memorable. Off to the swaps pile.

  7. I wore Coxcomb on my first date with my now boyfriend and the night ended in kissing! I think the balance of some musk is sexy without being too much. Dia would be a really good choice since you already have it! Most lighter or musk-heavy scents are appealing to most people. Rather than say, pine, or something too smoky. Have a great date :-)

I have a date to plan for, naturally my shoes are playing second fiddle to what perfume to wear. It's a first date, and one that has been a long time coming and very hard to organise given that we both have kids and live in different cities...

Any suggestions? I guess I don't want to smell too foody, or even too fruity, and I love lavender but I worry that or jasmine will be a little risky on the old lady factor. I love Vixen currently but that could be a rather polarising scent I think. I don't want to smell too young either! I tried Nymphia-this kind of fit the too young category for me, as much as it was a cute scent.

I have a ton of things to choose from, I'm leaning toward Dia, but could this be a bit haughty? I also thought of Black Pearl. Would wearing something christmas-y with pine possibly be a bit manly? I considered Knecht Ruprecht briefly then worried it's almond/pine combo was too weird for a first meeting..

I want irresistible but not slutty :P I guess what I'm saying is that I want to smell good, but not too...anything really. I know, I'm almost asking for a middle of the road bpal! Glittering Apple of the Stars is too 'little' for an evening scent, so something 'more' than this.

HELP! I don't really want to go mainstream, plus my favourite one is Insolence and that's my 'don't even think about touching me' scent, and Boudoir goes skanky on me these days, and Stella Nude seems like a cop-out.

edit to ask:what anyone thinks of Lantern Ghost of Oiwa as a first date scent? I do think the yo-sushi waiter guy sniffed me when I wore this.

Hi, my first thought was Flowering Chrysanthemums.

Then I thought maybe I should take a look at what you iso or already own before suggesting it.

And what do I see on your old sales page?

Your request for Flowering Chrysanthemums!

So, maybe you should wear it if you have some.

    :D

    Good luck, relax and enjoy

  8. An aristocratic cologne of titanic passions, moody and brooding. This scent is dark with disillusionment and cynicism: a Victorian fougère and a dashing carnation boutonnière tainted by a cloud of khus, yew, and patchouli.

Beautiful fresh and clean carnation at first application. Love this part and then a little wood emerges, I totally agree about the "cloudy" sensation of this blend. Then something happens to remind me why I didn't snag a full bottle of this blend. There is something bitter (yew?) that mingles with the other notes and I get spicy (clove or cinnamon but not carnation) and bitter. Not my thing. Where did that lovely carnation go?

  9. This is a sweet floral perfume, slightly powdery (boardering on old lady perfume) but also romantic and feminine. I don't really get any of the frankincense, but I don't get very much of the ylang ylang either. I smell mostly sweet violets but the other notes are there in the background, holding steady, making sure that this doesn't turn into a candied-violets blend. I'm not really sure how much hyssop or grave loam are in the blend but there is a hint of something green, not fresh and green, but mossy, old-Victorian-garden green. I like this blend very much and I'm glad that the Lab frimped it to me because I'm not sure that I would have tried it on my own. Possible bottle purchase.

  10. This to me is a very feminine scent. The vanilla musk and a hint of cherry blossom are the main notes to me. I really can't detect any moss at all, but I think it balances the blend and keeps the notes from turning too sweet. This is my current favorite from the Shungas. I do notice a slight hint of floral powder but I quite like that, and it helps make the blend soft and feminine to me.

  11. I loved this in the vial... Then it began to dry to a rich, golden musk and then in the stage long after application I swear I could smell a hint of aged leather, like an old leather jacket in a thrift store. I like this for my husband!

  12. Something... sniff, sniff... doesn't smell right to me about this blend. I'm getting a strange stale gum and molding dirt note followed by a whiff of citrus peelings... I even think I'm too much of a wimp to try the blend. Off to swaps for sure.
