  1. Given the name and description is in my native language, Finnish, I couldn't resist getting a bottle of this. I had high hopes for it but sadly I don't think I can wear this without feeling nauseous.

The spices are really powerful and the smokyness adds a bitter feel that I really dislike. I was hoping the rice pudding (riisipuuro) would add a creamy feel to it but I get none of that in Joulumuori. If anything, the rice pudding in this has been left on the hob too long and got slightly burnt...

  2. I've been using this lately and definitely second what others have already said - it's not really scrubby at all. The consistency is great for moisturizing, though, but it's more of something to use after a pumice stone to get my feet soft and moisturized.

I love the scent, haven't tried the other two scrubs yet so I can't compare.

  3. This is the one out of this year's Phoenixes that I expected would work best on me.

The wet stage really reminds me of the dark woods + sugary sweetness combo of Sugar Moon but this dries down to a fairly different scent compared to SM. It has a strong herbal, almost medicinal edge but that is balanced by the woods making it very wearable. All in all it strikes me as quite a strong, dark scent. I don't always like outright woodsy scents but this is definitely good.

I'm definitely getting a bottle and hopefully some aging will make this even better. :wub2:

  4. An immensely potent purification oil. Anoint your chakra points and palms with this oil, and anoint white figure candle, a personal fetish, or any other object representing you. Purges your soul of dark and morose thoughts, and vigorously cleanses away day-to-day irritation and misery. Helps relieve stress and anxiety, and clears your mind of ugliness and clutter.

I used White Light recently to calm me down and bring me comfort at a time I was feeling very sad and anxious about something. I didn't do a full ritual but applied White Light to my palms and concentrated on my breathing (breathing in 'white light' and breathing out all the bad things). I also applied some onto a cuddly toy I took to bed with me. I definitely noticed the difference the next morning - I was feeling more calm, as if there was something protective wrapped around me. It wasn't instant happiness, but a sense of comfort. The scent stayed on the cuddly toy and on my duvet several days, too, so I got to enjoy the calming effect for several nights.

The scent itself is floral with a herbal undertone. I think there's some jasmine in this, perhaps sage, some other 'green' herbs, possibly a touch of ginger. After some time the scent morphs into something very perfumey and reminds me of Chanel Coco (which adds an interesting twist for me because someone who used to be a very important support to me some years ago wore Chanel Coco...). If this wasn't a ritual oil, I would love to wear it as a perfume.

I'm going to make sure I have a bottle of White Light always at hand for times when I need a bit of extra comfort and peace.

  5. I'm not sure what the greens are but I definitely get a lot of kiwi out of this. Juicy, ripe kiwi, ready to be eaten.

Initially very fresh and although pleasant, not amazing. But this gets better and better after a few hours of wear and now I'm considering upgrading my decant to a full bottle! When dry and settled on skin, this develops a lovely perfumey quality - really quite sophisticated while still being really fresh.

  6. Initially all I get is the red musk familiar from Red Moon 07 and Smut. After a while on skin the tea notes definitely become more pronounced and I'm getting some of the mango, too. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it because the red musk was so overpowering (I do like red musk but in moderation) but I'm liking this more and more now that I've worn it for a few hours.

I'm glad I have a bottle - and hopefully a bit of aging will make the musk even better.

  7. <snip>

Your bottle of Satyr is legit & probably pretty rare now! Above is my bottle of Black Rose from 2003, so I'd estimate the bottle you have to be that age as well : ) Hold onto it, you've got a treasure!

I'm guessing Black Rose has been discontinued since? I can't find any mention of it on the lab site or reviews here.

black rose is part of the rappaccini's garden line and thankfully is still a GC scent cuz i love it :P

Thanks for that, I can't believe I haven't seen it so far! It sounds like my perfect scent, too. Wow, I'm glad I looked at this thread now!

    *runs to edit wishlist*

  9. Lumina, the Lab tends to undervalue the contents on the customs label and marks them as a gift. I've ordered about 6 times myself and never got caught out by customs. I've also been a part of big UK group orders and we've never had customs fees charged. So chances are you won't get charged any customs fees.

And if you happened to get a charge, you will get a letter from Royal Mail about it first, the postie won't charge you on delivery or anything, so it won't be a surprise.

  10. This is what I had hoped Depraved would be like (Depraved was pure pencil shavings on me... but I digress)!

Juicy, sweet apricot jam with a touch of spice giving it warmth. I like my scents strong and this is just right. I can imagine wanting to reach for March Hare on a warm summer's day like today as well as in the winter when it's cold. I wonder why it took me so long to try this!

  11. On me L'Estate is a beautiful, warm amber scent with a subtle hint of florals and musk in the background. Very golden and warm, really a good representation of a summer day. As others have commented, this doesn't have much throw and instead stays very close to skin. It has fairly good staying power on me. We have had some of the hottest days of the summer here this week and L'Estate has been just the scent to wear!

  12. La Primavera is such a gorgeous, sunny, bright scent. I sprayed it around my living room after cleaning and the scent still lingers around the next day. It's not overwhelming, just a subtle hint of scent like the smell of flowers and fruits wafting in from an open window on a sunny day.

  13. Mme. Moriarty is such a gorgeous soft and sexy blend. I get a lot of patchouli, plums and Snake Oil-style spiciness with the vanilla bean giving this an utterly beautiful, soft and slightly creamy base. This is a very grown up, sexy scent. I feel like it envelopes me into something soft and luxurious - perhaps red velvet.

This is fast becoming one of my signature scents and I know I will be hoarding several bottles before the Carnaval leaves town!

  14. Pepper jumps right into my BPAL Top 10. And no wonder as it contains most of my favourites notes in one blend - blood orange, vanilla, ginger, honey, rose, berries...

One of my first posts on this forum was a post to ask for scent recommendations. I remember saying in that post how I imagined I would love to find a "floral with a kick" and as I tested Pepper this morning many months after that post, I knew I had found just that - a floral with a kick! This is a gorgeous combination of opposite qualities that mingle together gorgeously - it's a bit sweet, a bit spicy, a bit floral, strong and yet soft.

Initially when wet on skin I get a lot of the spices (bergamot, ginger) with the blood orange - it reminds me of my beloved Et Lux Fuit. Then, when dry, the florals emerge more and the vanilla and honey round up the overall sweetness and tone down the edge the pink pepper and ginger give this.

Pepper gets 10 out of 10 from me - thank you for yet another masterpiece, Beth! :P

  15. How long does it take for an order to arrive? My order was shipped on 15 May, but, I still don't have it. Should I worry?

Mine usually takes about a week.

Is the 15th when you got your CnS or did you click on the link on your CnS to see the day it actually shipped? Sometimes the CnS comes a day or two earlier than the package is scheduled to ship.

You might also want to ask your local delivery office in case they just haven't left you the "sorry you were out" slip - the package would be too big for a letterbox.

  16. This is a lot like Snake Oil on me - to the extent that I had to come here to read the reviews to see if others had made that connection or if my imp was actually a mislabeled imp of Snake Oil! I get a tiny hint of orange blossom but it's very gentle behind the spicy, strong notes of it. This would have fitted in great with the Snake Pit, it's like a less smokey version of SO.

Very sexy, definitely instantly moves into my GC top 10 and a bottle will be ordered in due course.

  17. This is my new summer-time favourite!

Beautifully sweet and bright - I get a lot of apple but it's neither a sour crisp apple nor a foody apple, it's wonderfully soft. I had a bubble bath as a child from Yves Rocher called Pomme D'Api and this reminds me a lot of that!

I don't get much rose out of this but I think it's a case of all the notes blending together so well that I can't tell the individual notes apart.

I'm glad I have a bottle for the coming summer! :P

  18. I'm new here. I've placed my first order and I read on the BPAL welcome page that I could check "shipped through" on the forum. Can someone tell me where I can find that?

I know I'll be waiting a while but I'm too excited not to check it every day! :D

    :P

Here is the link to the packed through page. Also, keep your eye on the Click n Ship thread, that gives you a rough idea of order dates that are currently being shipped out.

Also just to say that the Shipped Through post isn't always updated regularly, so the Click N Ship thread is really your best bet. :D

  19. This is almost overwhelmingly strong and sweet, especially when wet. Some floral scents seem to make me a bit nauseous and this is sadly one of them. :P It does calm down a bit when it dries but still has a very sickly sweet quality to it.

Lasts on my skin for ages - I tried on a small amount from the imp wand and soon after went to wash my hair, then washed my hands twice and the scent was still on my skin after all that! So this is good news if you like the scent although for me it wasn't such a good thing...

  20. This review comes with a disclaimer - I've been ill with a cold for the past week and still can't smell things quite as clearly as I normally can... but I know people are waiting for Hanami reviews, so here is my best attempt in the circumstances...

In the bottle: bright, floral, pink/white (like cherry blossoms)

On my skin: This is a bright and cheerful scent - like the feeling you get in the first days of spring when the sun is finally out and nature is waking up after the winter and there is but a gentle a breeze playing with your hair. This reminds me of some light and feminine "big name perfumes", something quite light and youthful. If I smelled this on someone I might imagine it's something by Escada or perhaps Tommy Hilfiger or Burberry.

Hanami is a lot like I expected it to be like. Really, really pretty, spring/summer scent. This is a simple floral in the sense that there is no guessing "oh I wonder what that note is" - it's really obvious that these are flowers/blossoms. It's not quite like any other BPAL I've tried before, either.

  21. Wow, this might actually be THE BPAL rose that will be amazing on me! Rose is one of my favourite notes but unfortunately it tends to turn really sharp and my skin - for example Rose Red and 2, 5 and 7 were just too green and fresh for my liking.

Hope is softer - the sugar is cutting the sharp edge off and even though the rose is still very fresh and bright, this is a lovely, creamier rose scent. Very pretty and feminine and yet not too girly (for example compared to the little girl rose in Alice).

I will definitely need a bottle and I'm curious about how this will blend with Faith!

    :P
