  1. All's I get is sugary melon... and maybe a bit of lychee.

It's so sugary melon I was checking to see if my fingers were sticky. As it dries, there's an odd undercurrent of something I'm not sure I like, but then the melon will pop back up.

Not exactly what I expected and I'm still not sure if I like it or not.

  2. Mmm frimp and I'd wanted to try it!

    in imp - woof Yuzu!

    wet - More YUZU

drydown - the limeyness softens a bit and something maybe a little juniper berry pops in.

Not much throw but it hangs on a bit. Light scent but is very clear on my skin. When a scent does that I know its a keeper.

Delicious! Bottle coming in the queue.

  3. I really like this scent. It reminds me of something I had many years ago but no longer remember the name of.

It actually smells very aquatic to me. I get a bit of the apple and some grape but no rose or lemon, sadly.

  4. I don't see many mentions of Whip here, so I figured I'd add it.

Whip is, I believe "black leather and damp red rose."

It smells like the perfectly polite but secretly naughty boy who arrives for your first date holding a rose bouquet and wearing the new bomber jacket he got just to impress you. :P

Sadly whip smelled like old athletic tape on me. No rose at all.

    :D

  5. Versailles is rather nice. It has a very sophisticated feel with the combination of citrus, rose, amber & jasmine. After testing it, I immediately thought my mother might like it, which is a first (she likes Lancome's Magie Noir & not much else).

I have to say I disliked Versailles and I still have my bottle of Magie Noir vintage 1983 or something. I have to say it's stayed true as well.

Do people mean 'powder' when they say old lady or what? And what age old lady :P My grandma would be near 100 now and I think some of the grandmas here may actually be my age... *cough* There's a big difference between Shalimar / Emeraude / Charlie / Magie Noir / Farenheit / CK2

All of which will be old lady at some point.

  6. In imp: piney and cedary. only a faint whiff of coolness.

Wet: woody cedar, with a bit of pine.

Dry: mmmm wood and cedar and pine.

I was hoping for something head clearing but instead I smell like Christmas. Its lovely and I'm glad I got a bottle. The resin and wood is quite warm and after the initial flush of cool on application, this warms up really nicely. I taste pine fleetingly as I wear it, then a bit of wood, then more pine. It lingers nice and subtly.

    Really excellent.

  7. This is an odd one for me. I got it as a frimp in a trade.

in the imp - resiny with an undercurrent of cat urine.

I decided to be brave and try some.

wet: resiny with something like chocolate underneath to take away the sharpness.

early dry: less resiny and something creamy popping up. icky cream.

    middle dry: ick baby powder.

trailing off: rubber and baby powder.

    extremely nasty.

  8. I'm wearing maiden now and it is only the slightest bit mellower and rounder than my SN carnation.

    I love it lots.

I like Caterpiller as well but the carnation is more subtle and the spices play a larger role. Maiden is WHOA CARNATION on me.

  9. Initial sniff from bottle - woof! Fresh Cut Peppery Carnation!

Wet on skin - carnations with a softening undertone, it must be the tea.

Dry on skin - a lovely mellow carnation, much like the single note carnation oil I adore, but not as cloying.

Staying Power & Throw - medium throw, should hang on for a bit, carnation always does with me.

Overall Opinion - love it even though I smell not a single bit of rose. None. But boy does it have some fine carnation. It's very fresh and not overly pungent. I ordered a bottle immediately.

The funny thing is I got an imp of Fruminous Bandersnatch and smelled absolutely nothing at all. No carnation, nothing. This one though. Whoa carnation.

  10. in bottle: light citrus scent. Really light, like someone's cutting lemons or limes two rooms away.

wet on skin: Still very very light. A bit of floral is showing up underneath the citrus. They work well together.

dry: Practically gone in 20 minutes. I have to snort my wrist to get the faintest wiff of candy lemon fading to an indistinct floral.

Its a lovely light scent but it's too fleeting. I'll enjoy it in the summer I think. I like Phantasm better though.

  11. Initial sniff from bottle: Real fresh pineapple or star fruit but no acid hit. I taste something woody/pulpy. No pomegranate though.

Wet on skin: Grilled pineapple and brown sugar. Not over sweet, just enough to keep the fruit mellow.

Dry on skin: The same only almost vanished

Staying Power & Throw: No throw and no staying power. Gone in only a few minutes.

Overall Opinion: Sadly I was hoping for Indian restaurant pomegranate juice smell and this isn't it.

  12. In the bottle: Just like a bouquet of roses fresh from the florist.

    Wet: exactly the same.

Dry: exactly the same. This started out quite loud, then as it dried, calmed down a lot.

Summary: Strong initial throw then down to a perfect just there enough level. Fair amount of lasting power but I used barely a swipe because I couldn't wait.

This is so a multiple big bottle purchase for me, This is exactly the type of Rose I love and I need tons because I will wear tons. And Unlike the Jo Malone single note, I am not sneezing, just repeatedly sniffing my wrist and drooling...

(LOL I have 4 bottles of this now! w00t!)
