  1. David: Don't worry. If it doesn't work out, we have a velvet-lined mass grave.

  2. Happy Birthday to my best friend. I'm truly fortunate to have him. Here's to many more wonderful years, Spencer.

  3. A grey haired granola type with her daughter, a pair of super hipsters, a gay couple all alongside vegan, gluten free cupcakes. Very Portland.

  4. Home from the wars for today, finally. Geez, I feel like David Fischer.

  5. Is there a term for that odd mixture of flattery and feminist irritation one feels when being whistled at and catcalled?

  6. I so love being able to walk to the market to pick up supper.

  7. Oh, the heart-wrenchingly sad noises of a puppy in his (snug and cozy) pen for the night. Made even more pitiful by the fact that Merlin clearly wants me to go to the rescue.

  8. Spencer is sitting on the couch with a canine sleeping peacefully on him for the first time since Puck passed away. He is absolutely radiating contentment.

  9. Pre-puppy brunch with a zillion post-St. Paddy's Day runners.

  10. 24 hours until puppy!

  11. 75=the number of unearned steps awarded if a deeply bored dog picks up your Fitbit and gives it a good licking.

  12. Somebody's (very excited) husband has a puppy coming home with him in a week.

  13. I love the smell of wet Sheltie in the morning?

  14. Yay for Ryan Marchese - newest member of Team IFGS for the Doggie Dash!

  15. Changing my profile photo for my sweet Mom, Michele Sterling. She said my old photo looked sad, and sent a generous donation for the Doggie Dash in memory of Puck and Loki. You're the best, Mom! Love you!

  16. I am 100% confident that I am the only person I know who has heard "Wish You Were Here" played on sewing machines and notions.

  17. So far, I've been asked, "Do you have a little girl at home you are sewing for?" "How many little sons do you have at home to sew for?" and "Do you have twins that you are sewing for?" (Huh?) Thankfully, I have not yet been asked how many grandchildren I am sewing for.

  18. I haven't made it to the sewing expo for 6 years or so. The main difference I see so far is that the handful of bored men sitting on benches holding bags are now also playing games on their smartphones.

  19. Sewing and Stitchery Expo!!!! It's a craft-gasm !

  20. So, I'm sleeping alone in a hotel that's not-quite-sketchy, because I'm on a mini-vacation (sewing expo!). In general, I don't always sleep peacefully away from my guy. This time, I woke up from a heck of an involved dream involving my mother and I having a wide-ranging conversation about everything from whether Atheism is compatible with Paganism to legalization of marijuana to the nature of addiction to when it is vs. is not fun to cook to cleaning a cat's ears. All while riding in a large ...

  21. I sat down with my fiscal analyst yesterday. We reviewed a total budget for all the programs for which I am responsible for the first time in my 'new' job. The number made me dizzy.

  22. Show of hands: whose wake-up call this morning was an emergency alert from the city of Portland telling you to stay the heck inside?

  23. So, I'm finally up and around today, just in time to hear the sleet and ice beating at my windows.

  24. Ok, my fitbit tells me I slept for 10+ hours and I am still totally beat. Pneumonia stinks!

  25. So, after 3 weeks of death virus, I took my dumbass self (quoting my beloved husband here) to the doctor. I apparently have bronchitis, a sinus infection, and possibly pneumonia. He's very sick, too. Our home now sounds as if deaf people live here. Spencer has lost his voice from the constant coughing, and my ears are blocked from the infection.
