I love the lab's fig note, so I had to get a decant of this one. I'm getting two very different scents on my arm, but this happens sometimes. On my wrist, I definitely get the redwood and some myrrh. It's really spicy and dry. In the crook of my arm (a warmer spot) I'm getting a ton of the fig, plus the nutmeg and tarragon along with the redwood and some other stuff I can't make out (orange?). The scent is a lot more fierce and moist here, if that's possible. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this strange blend. I don't hate it, but I probably won't be hanging on to my decant when there are scents like Inez & Clemence to stock up on.
  2. Speaking of Inez, I find she's similar on my skin to Oblivion, minus the sharp note Oblivion ends with. Inez smells edible to me, but Oblivion seems to have the spice of Inez with a touch of something bitter.

    Pumpkin II (2008)

The first few times I tried this it was full on buttery pumpkin, super sweet. Now after aging for almost a month a slight bit of the leather has come out, though not nearly as much as I would have hoped. I don't get the teak either, which is pretty much the whole reason I chose to get a bottle of this one. I like this blend, I just wish it wasn't so tooth-achingly sweet. I can't really see wearing this outside of the fall season.

    International Shipping Info+Questions

I'm in the same situation. I put my canadian address in the comments section along with my order. It usually works out fine, except for the one time that the postal code got cut off somehow and my package took an extra few weeks to get to me.
  5. I'm not a fan of Snake Oil either, but I love Australian Copperhead. I tend to rotate my bottle usage with the seasons and it's pretty much the only scent I can pull off year round. I find Western Diamondback to be really wearable too, but it doesn't last very long on me. I also love Death Adder, but it seems the closest to Snake Oil on me, so I like to layer it with something more coconutty.

Nutty scents - blends with nut notes or nuts

I see no one's mentioned Misk U. I get the same hazelnut note from it that I got from Gluttony.

Wow, this smells just like wine in the imp, and divine on me when it's wet, but it morphs into this gross powdery scent with hints of sweat. Just divine. I hate when scents that should work on me turn into a weird sweaty smell. Anyway, the wine in this is exactly like the wine in Centzon Totochtin, only without the chocolate note. Maybe it'll work in a scent locket?

I got this as a frimp and it's something I never would have chosen. When I first put it on it reminded me a lot of a lemon cologne I had as a kid. I could have sworn lemon verbena was a note. When I asked my husband to sniff me, he said I smelled like a hotel carpet. I had to admit that on the drydown it did smell a lot like this deodorizing powder my mom used to sprinkle on the carpet and then vacuum up about 15 minutes later. After looking at the notes in this I could pick out the apricot. It's the same one that's in Depraved (one of my absolute favorites). But this has none of the sexiness on me that Depraved does. This also contains orange blossom, which is the note of death on me. It always goes plastic. I can't help but think this blend would be better with a hint of vanilla sweetness. It's definitely missing something. I have a feeling none of the Illyria blends are going to agree with me.

    Day of the Skulls

This one changes each time I wear it, which makes me think it will age beautifully. The first time it was very heavy on the florals. To be honest, I didn't like it as much as some of my other Halloween bottles, but it was very elegant. The second time, I put it on with some unscented lotion and the cocoa really came through. I also got the rose, though not at strongly as the first time. Now that my bottle is several weeks old, I'm getting a lot more cocoa from it, which I love. The beeswax is definitely light in this one, unlike in Ichabod Crane and I agree with the above poster who said it smells like bones. I do picture skulls when I sniff this. I wish I knew more about white sandalwood and hydrangea so I'd know if I smelled them here and if I liked them. I love looking at hydrangeas! Certainly a hauntingly elegant scent.

    Titania

When I first sniffed this in the imp I thought it smelled sweet, vaguely apple-like. When I swiped it on my wrist it reminded me a lot of the apples in Poisoned Apple. Then, after a good half hour (and after I read the description) I totally got the pear, especially the iced part. It completely reminds me of the Pear Glacé Victoria's Secret lotion my mom used to keep in the bathroom. Not really the scent I'm going for, but fruit lovers will probably like this one. It's fruity, yet grown up. Definitely not a kool-aid fruit scent.

    Bloodlust

Oh vetiver, you always smell awful in the bottle but divine on me. Bloodlust is no exception. It's sexy and spicy, definitely an autumn scent. I didn't think dragon's blood could work on me but it does here. I just wish I could stop sniffing my wrists! I'm thinking the indonesian patchouli is what's bringing everything together and smoothing this whole blend out.

    The Illustrated Woman

Well, you can put me in the camp who dislikes this scent. There are notes I love in this (smoky vanilla, patchouli, golden honey), but they're all shrouded underneath this overwhelming note that screams MEN'S AFTERSHAVE! Oh well. I should have no trouble getting rid of my decant.

    Bezoar

I agree with everyone who said this one smells like green olives. It felt like I had swiped brine across my wrist.

    Thirteen (13): June 2008

Mmm, I get the same chocolate in this that I smelled in El Dia Des Reyes, but I also smell the white chocolate and a sort of burnt caramel smell akin to La Befana or Red Lantern. Lovely! Edit to add : I just learned about rolling bottles before applying scent and when I did it for this one today the apple blossom really came out. It smelled just like chocolate covered apples!

    Boomslang

Snake Oil with cocoa, teakwood, and rice milk. I don't get what all the fuss is about regarding this scent. Maybe it'll be a knockout once it's well aged, but for now Wulric is my go to chocolate scent. Boomslang is just too foody for me. (My decant is 6 months old).

The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife

This is a nice light summer scent. I love the mix of the honey and mint, and none of the notes are cloying or heavy. I only have my decant, but I reach for it when I know I'll be spending a lot of time outside.

    Violet Ray

I love violet scents so getting an imp of this was a no brainer for me, especially since the concept totally turns me on too. Violet Ray starts out as the same powdery violet as Nocturne with a soft mint in the background and slowly morphs into...sweat. Yup. This is like minty, powdery, candied violet sweat. I'm blaming the lavender moss for the sweat since almost anything moss goes bad on my skin, but I'll keep away from ylang ylang and weird colored musks from now on too. Sigh.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Interesting. My bottle of Nocnitsa is in a cobalt bottle too, but I ordered it back in October.

The Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil

Well I'll be staying away from the lab's caramel note from now on. I find it incredibly cloying and I usually end up with a headache. That being said, this reminds me of a cross between Gluttony (vanilla, caramel) and Queen Alice (carnation) with a smoky finish to it. Lovely, but not for me, or my head.

    Leanan Sidhe

This smells very much like commercial perfume on me. It reminds me of L'air du temps, which is one my mother used to wear. It's a perfectly nice smell, floral and aquatic, but I'm not into BPAL for commercial type perfumes, so this one will probably be swapped away.

    Tamora

This reminds me alot of Poisoned Apple without the intense apple tartness. I think I prefer it to Poisoned Apple, but I don't exactly get peach from it. It's more like a faint vanilla fruit scent.
  22. I find that the fresh figgyness of Milk Moon 07 is pretty prominent in Strangler Fig. It's not as warm, but it's just as fresh smelling to my nose.

    Les Bijoux

Mmm, sexy! I doubt I would have tried this on my own, but the lab frimped me with my last order. I was a little worried when I grabbed it at random to test that it was a super fruity scent, but it has a lovely sweet powdery honey note with a touch of apple blossom in the background. I won't get a bottle, but this is a winner all around and will be a nice scent for summer! It really does remind me of jewels, just like the name suggests.

    Green Tree Viper

I think mint might be a dealbreaker for me because it's ruined more than one blend. Also, I always think I'll go crazy for tea scents and then they usually turn on me. So you can guess how this one turned out. I swapped it away pretty quickly.

    Lady Una

To me this smells like rubber and grapes. I really wanted to like it, but I can't get past those initial impressions.
