  1. What oils are similar to Snake Oil (spiced) that are just as sweet or near it?

How to remove scents from your skin

I'm surprised i've never seen a topic like this, there probably has been and I just airheadedly don't remember it, so sorry if that's the case Anyway, what's the most effective way to get BPAL off your skin? Either if it doesn't work with your skin chemistry or if you just want to change your perfume for the day Soap doesn't seem to do beans.

    Leather

Update on my leather situation..I went ahead and ordered a 5ml of Perversion unsniffed. Hopefully I'll like it, but if not you'll see me on the swap boards begging for a swap for Tintagel. I can't wait to see what a 'girlier leather' is like

    Ravenous

This starts out smelling like an orange creamsicle dropped in dandelions. The dandelion smell faded and I smell a lot of orange with some patchouli. I actually kind of like this, it's very soft. Unfortunately, the orange didn't last very long, and I was left with almost pure patchouli. I am not a fan of patchouli. Thus, I am not a fan of Ravenous.
  5. I let my friend go wild in my imps and the first thing she said afterwards was "You can tell they're all by the same company." Mind you, I had quite a variety, so it's likely there's something the same in all of them and she wasn't just smelling the notes I like..I haven't noticed it yet, but I don't have the most educated of noses, so we'll see. My collective BPAL collection has QUITE a strong smell. I always get blasted with it when I open my little box. I might take the bottles out, but I'm definitely keeping the imps isolated..it's not an unpleasant smell, it's just strong! If I had to describe it, it would be slightly floral and slightly incensey.

    Zombi

This is reminiscent of an excessively vain zombie. The kind of zombie that would, appropriately enough, shorten it to "zombi." ...In short, this smells like a mud-caked rotting corpse with perfume on. It wasn't entirely unpleasant in the imp. I could smell dirt and the underlying floral, which wasn't very "me," but being as fond of the walking dead and their movies as I am, I just had to try it on. My skin must really hate the "earth" notes because roses are usually fine. I spilled some on me and I thought it was never going to come off and I was about to cry the smell was bothering me so much. Incidentally, I also spilled some on the couch, which now smells like a graveyard. This should make for some interesting dreams tonight..

    Leather

I'm about to beat myself over the head for not including Perversion in my last order- damn me and my quick ordering!! Wanda and Whip don't sound like I'd like them much- floral & leather doesn't sound like something I'd care for. I might try one of them anyway, though. Thanks, guys!

    Leather

I like the scent of leather but I find that it's usually included with notes that are way too masculine for me. What's the sweetest of the leather blends? or, if there isn't such a thing, most feminine? [edit] Yikes I totally forgot about my original recommendations thread, I'd have posted this as a reply in there but spaced out. Well, if you want to travel down a bit, you can see what I usually like. Sorry

    Sugar Cookie

It starts out smelling more like Burnt Sugar Cookie. Gross. However, it fades to a spiced food-y scent- "the Devil's Bake Sale" is so appropriate! Though I'm not fond of the initial burnt smell, this is indeed fun and festive (but slightly wicked) when the other notes come out to play [edit] I "slathered" this on accident before heading to my Christmas Eve dinner, and HOLY COW!! This is so freakin' gorgeous and perfect for the holidays! I don't even know how to explain it, it didn't smell quite like cookies (and certainly not the burned ones I got initially) but was still a non-cloying wonderful foody. Gorgeous!! Slightly spicy and slightly creamy. I can't stop smelling myself!!! I think this may be my favorite holiday oil, I can't get over it!

    Roadhouse

Truck stop sleaze. Weedy dandelion and hops with a whiff of tobacco and hemp and a swirl of booziness. *omg* hahahaha I feel like I need a mullet when I wear this one. I smell mostly dandelion in the beginning but the dry-down and everything else is different, but unchanging. Some weeds, a lot of stale beer, and a faint breath of tobacco. Obviously not an every day scent (or a scent to wear at all) but fantastic for how it captures an image so perfectly.

    Bliss

This starts out smelling exactly like a brownie, but fades to some sexy, sexy chocolate. I'm not sure what's deepening it and making it more interesting, but it works! Thank god I have a 5 ml of this on the way

    Snake Oil

I love the initial slightly spiced sweetness. No, correction, I ADORE it. However, it fades to powdery and then just to a rather masculine-smelling spicy. I'll have to try layering this with my vanilla bean single note to see if I can prolong the sweetness. [edit] Layering with the Vanilla Bean worked with phenominal results. I am violently in love with this. And I still like it a lot even on it's own now..what is it with Snake Oil and taking time to warm up to it? It's sooo worth it though..*smells wrist for the 100000000000th time* [edit again] The lasting power of this is null on my skin- I envy those who can call it strong! I've also noticed that on certain days this smells very dusty. I guess this is sort of hit-or-miss, but the "hit" days make it by far my favorite BPAL blend thus far. This is a very multi-purpose oil. If i'm feeling more confident and sexy I can go with the "manlier", unlayered Snake Oil, or I can layer with Vanilla Bean to give it some more creamy oomph.

    Vanilla Bean

This starts out smelling very familiar, but not at all what I usually think of as vanilla. I figured out the familiarity was because it smells VERY similar to Dana O'Shee. I still loved it, though, because I'm a vanilla freak and love pretty much any form of vanilla there is (even candy vanilly and candle vanilla.) However..as this dried, it became a more "traditional" vanilla but 20 times as gorgeous. WOW. It's very rich and creamy but not overly sweet or artificial. This is incredible and I'm kicking myself for not ordering 20 bottles! I'm gutted this is discontinued because I'm going to use this up and then I'll never smell it again

    Bordello

This smells on my skin just like it does in the imp and only gets softer as time goes on. No new notes coming out to play, nothing. And it isn't very lusty, deep, or luxurious..but it's gorgeous nonetheless! The lack of morphing just means there aren't any potential nasty surprises as time wears on It's the first sweet BPAL i've tried that actually smells sugared. It is fruity, but creamy rather than tart. And sexy, in a very girly-girl way. BIG BOTTLE PRONTO!

    Blood Kiss

This starts out vetiver-y, which is bad. However, I love every other note in this blend to bits and pieces, so I sat it out. As it dried, I could smell everything I wanted to up when my nose was right by my wrist and it was PERFECT. Sweet, but sultry, and very sexy. However, when I catch a whiff of it when I'm not smelling my wrist, I smell mainly vetiver again. BOO!!! I definitely get the 'sexy vampire' vibe when I'm not smelling the vetiver (which makes it smell more dry) I'm going to try layering this with my Vanilla Bean and see if it adds some more creaminess to counter the vetiver. Otherwise, perfection in an imp and would be my #1 scent! [edit] Today my skin is really amping up the clove. Not a bad thing, as I love clove, but this is a peculiar blend. The second time I wore it all I smelled was the vetiver without the loveliness lurking underneath. I like this super-clove-tastic phase it's in now, but we'll see how it behaves as I wear it more. [another edit] I think my body chemistry must have completely neutralized. This smells exactly the same on me as it does in the imp and a piece of cotton. Which is..SUPER VETIVER. DAMN YOU VETIVER!!!!! YOU ARE RUINING WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN OTHERWISE PERFECT BLEND [edit] I keep editing this but I really feel obligated to share my progress with anyone else that hates vetiver but wants this to work. I layered with Vanilla Bean (about 2 parts Blood Kiss to 1 part vanilla) and the extra vanilla completely ATE the vetiver. It's PERFECT now. I can't get over it. weirdest. oil. EVER. [...again] I need to stop editing this but I just HAD to add that the bottle of Blood Kiss I just received was MUCH MUCH lighter on the vetiver than my imp. WEIRD! But so good

    Vixen

I smell all the notes wet, but mostly the orange and patchouli. As it dries down, the patchouli shoves the orange out of the way and the ginger disappears all together. I hate patchouli. I would recommend this only for someone that's in love with patchouli. 12 hours later the patchouli went away and I can smell the ginger and orange blossom, and it's GORGEOUS. Unfortunately, I don't have the tolerance to sit through the patchouli-ness to get through that stage.

    Hollywood Babylon

Ladies and gentleman, we have a winner, even though it has two notes that ruined other blends for me (red musk and amber). It smells like some kind of fruit punch in the imp and wet on the skin, but darkened a bit by red musk. As it dries down, the amber starts to come out, but instead of ruining this and making it incense-y, the strawberry counters it and it just gives it some more sultry depth. Smooth and sweet. I'm a fan! It doesn't morph too much over time and lasts a long time, also! [edit] Somewhere along the lines, there's something overwhelmingly boozy. That's bad news, but thankfully it doesn't stick around. This is soooo gorgeous, I love it more and more every time I wear it. I'm glad I have a 5ml on the way. I can't believe something actually made me enjoy amber..the heliotrope is very pleasant too, and I normally don't like any florals. Notes I dislike enhancing notes I love? Unheard of! but now I'm rambling, Hollywood Babylon is just that intoxicating.

    Glitter

Holy cow, this is sweeter than candy. Getting a big whiff leaves the same funny feeling in the back of my throat that you get when you eat too much ultra-sugary sweets. Specifically pixi sticks. I'm a fan of extremely sweet scents but this was too much. This scent does indeed glitter, but I don't get any booze. It dries down and a vague floral comes out, which gets rid of that nauseating candy smell. It just smells bright and sweet. I don't know if that's the lotus as I don't have any prior experience with lotus, but whatever it is, it made this pleasant. Not for every day, but I'm feeling really fun, this is a good choice.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Regan is floral and Vanilla. You could also try Tamora or Siren. Other than that, I'm not of much help, sorry.

    Voodoo

In the imp it smelled like some kind of soda mixed with pine air freshener. On my skin..this is very, very, very manly! I can definitely smell the pine but there's something creamy, too. It's hard to pick out individual notes but this smells very "cologne-y". I'm going to be giving it to my male friend. As it dries down I can smell more of the clove but it's largely the same. Nice for a male, but not for me. [edit] The final drydown is by far the manliest stage of all. I liked the clove and initial hidden creaminess, but everything else took over. [edit again] Body chemistry is so goofy! I finally gave my imp to the male friend and he put some on when we were hanging out (too much, mind you..we were sitting at opposite ends of the couch and the smell wafted towards me, especially if he moved.) It smelled like hardcore pine, vetiver, and lime..completely different from how it smelled on me, and even more masculine.

    Eve

I smelled primarily apple blossom in the imp. Shortly after it hit my skin, it turned into very loud roses. It stayed that way for a long time but eventually a little bit of ylang ylang and just the smallest dab of honey came out, keeping it from being 100% roses. Overall this is very floral, very light, and very, very feminine. I would have liked more apple blossom, or just less rose. Seeing as I'm not a fan of florals to begin with, this is not a winner.

    Desire

This is creamy, delicious, exciting, and other wonderful things..except for the patchouli. I HATE PATCHOULI! It makes me sick and I was hoping I would be able to ignore it here. Besides that, I can't really make out any of the individual notes, but it is very pleasing. The final phase is patchouli and musk so I ran for the dish soap and scrubbed this off as best I could. Watch out if you're not a patchouli fan. I would adore this without it, but it's such a screaming presence. [edit] I forgot to add one distinct impression I got as it dried some- Incense battling with that creamy sweetness.

    Water of Notre Dame

It starts out aquatic and herb-y. Definitely green. Light and sharp. Not my kind of scent at all- actually, I would have never tried this on had I not spilled a ton of it on me because of a broken imp cap. It stayed aquatic but got floral-y instead of herby, and slightly soapy. Still light, but still potent as well. This stuff will NOT come off! Overall this is very light and clean but strong. It definitely gives a distinct impression, so if that "vibe" doesn't appeal to you, it's probably not a wise choice! [edit] As I mentioned in this review originally, the cap on the imp broke. Because I didn't want to throw it out quite yet (even though I didn't care for it), I wrapped it in paper towels after trying to duct tape the imp cap back together. This kept the scent at bay for a bit, but not for long. This stuff is truly STRONG! It came through quite clear. However, as a 'room scent', it didn't actually smell like perfumed air. It just made the air smell very "clean" in a way you don't notice until you walk into another part of the house. It brings to mind pale walls and overall serenity. Seeing as that's not what I want in my room scents, either, I did end up throwing this out.

    Jester

Strawberry bubblegum in the imp, a slightly more mellowed strawberry bubblegum on my skin. This is one I would have preferred to morph a bit on my skin, and it didn't! A long while later- something different came out, which I assume is the neroli. It took this away from full-on bubblegum status. If I smell my arm I get a faint whiff of lipstick..ew. Thankfully, you can only smell that up close. Overall this is a VERY happy, bright, sparkling scent. As it's snowing out right now, it's not exactly season-appropriate..I'll keep this tucked away for spring and summer for sure, though! I'm glad the lab put this in as a freebie because I wouldn't have ordered it on my own.

    Eclipse

Wet- HOLY ALMONDS! I love almonds, so I was in love. Almost smells like a single-note. After that, the frankincense came out a little and the heliotrope came out a lot. No cinnamon whatsoever. This smells very familiar for some reason. It's definitely not as sweet. A few hours later, I smell the faintest whiff of spicy vanilla. I love this and wish it were stronger. I'm undecided on this one. I like the beginning almond-crazy phase and this last worn-off smell, but I'm not crazy about the middle phase, which was the bulk.
