Blood Kiss

Recommended Posts

Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.

Wet - Sweet cloying honey. Sickly sweet and heady.

Unfortunately this is too much for me, and I can't let it get to it's dry stage. Even if that were lovely, I wouldn't be able to wear it - wet stage is making me feel really ill. Usually I love honey, so not sure the issue. The wine maybe? Boy, this is potent!

Wet: Sweet and spicy, I think I smell the cloves?

Dry: It reminds me of a luxury lounge in a casino. Smokey and boozy. I can smell the vanilla, spiciness, and cherries.

It's nice, but I don't know if I would ever buy it.

In the imp: Alcoholic and a bit sour.

Wet: Like chocolate vetiver? Or chocolate liqueurs. Little bit of cherry.

Dry: Still cherry liqueurs, the wine is making it slightly medicinal. It's really nice, if it was a food, I'd totally eat it, but it's not the kind of thing I'd wear.

In the vial - I smell wood notes

Wet on me - More wood that tickles my nose & then spicy cloves

Drying - a whiff of cherry that fades quickly, then musky powdery skin

It lasts a few hours. I'll try again another time perhaps with some jojoba to seal the scent longer

I have received two frimps so I it's about time I try this! The description is rather enticing despite my general lack of interest in red scents.

In the imp: Cherries and cloves, and something medicinal.

On wet: Poppy, cherry, and honey. Getting pretty cough syrup-y.

Dry: The honey intensifies and dominates all.

Oh well, better luck elsewhere!

It's a lot of vetiver, and honey from the imp. On my skin the vetiver amps like it always does and on dydown the other notes left are just the wine and musk.

On me this smells amazing. That's all I can say. I got the imp first, then ordered the bottle. I can say that on me, it drives men nuts. I also once spilled a good portion of my bottle on me at work and got nothing but compliments. The honey and cherry get a little dark and sexy on me and this scent just WORKS for me.

Aaaah Blood Kiss..the first scent I tried and my first Bpal love!

In the bottle: Vetiver, clove mostly with some juicy cherries. That's much better to my liking than my imp which was a fake cherry cough syrup )

Wet: The vetiver is prominent( don't mind, I like vetiver)and so is the musk. The cherry( not the fruity kind) and the wine are quite present as well. There is a note I can't identifie, the poppy maybe? It's really a dark scent at this stage :)

Dry: A blend of wine, cherry, clove and honey goodness♡ vetiver is more in the background now and way under it there is some creamy vanilla. I love it ♡♡♡

Blood Kiss is so rich, warm and sexy ♡I don't wear it often because of it potency, but it's almost my signature scent when I'm in my gothic/ victorian attires ;)

First impression: Honeyed cherry-vanilla and deep red, clove-spiced wine. I'm not usually drawn to perfume booze notes, but this wine doesn't put me off. It seems balanced and purposeful in this combo: it's not weak, but other parts are strong, too. I'm not drawn to it, but it has a point.

Considering its initial potency, this fades to a close honey-cherry-wine skin scent quickly on me. I still want less booze, more spice.

In the imp: Way too strong for me, which is funny because I love vanilla, honey, cherries and musk. It must be the other stuff that's turning me off. I thought this would be a hit with the description, but I can't get past the strong smell enough to put it on. (funny sidenote: when I let my 3 y/o niece smell it, she yelled "It smells like potatoes!". I don't think that's accurate, though. )

In the imp: sickly sweet honey + maple-flavoured cough syrup from my childhood, punching me in the face. A little bit of greenery somewhere beneath it? Smells like a sick day in the botanic gardens.

Wet: Whew. My skin is really amping up whatever that green note is. It might be the vetiver? I smell like a Taoist prayer day held in an abandoned Lush.

Dry: I am picking up the slightest bit of vanilla and honey under all of that vetiver but not much else. My skin must eat perfume oils, because this is nearly nonexistent after half an hour. It is fairly pleasant, but no full-size for me.

Haha, I love reading the reviews here because it's fascinating to see how the oils react differently for everyone. Honey, cherries and cloves are the main notes for me, I don't think I get vanilla, vetiver or musk from it AT ALL. I've discovered that BPAL oils tend not to last that long on me (a couple of hours or so), but this one is at the longer-lasting end of things. It's a bit too sweet and rich for my personal taste, but men seem to go consistently apeshit over it, go figure.

Initial review (one of the first BPAL perfumes I tried): omg the vetiver is veeeeeery strong. At least I think it's vetiver? I've never smelled that note before. Is it too strong? (I've read reviews that people either love or hate vetiver, I'm a little intimidated  ) Anyway eventually it settled down and the cherry and vanilla notes came out a bit more. Very sweet but it still kept a good bit of the underlying darker complexity from the clove, wine, poppy and vetiver though. Smells really good and comes thru very strong on me. Good throw and lasted a long time, all day practically.

After a couple months of reviewing: This is lovely. Very sweet with a dark twist. I kind of get a slightly similar feel from Centzon Totochtin for some reason, though I think Blood Kiss is more complex. I think it's the sweet, heavier foody scents (cocoa vs vanilla/honey) with the wine and "blood" inspired scents giving me that impression. This is definitely a very sweet type of wine in this blend. The honey and vanilla make it very rich and somewhat foody. The cherry is not cough syrupy (Yay! Cherry can either be good or bad on me, and this is great!) The vetiver that I found intimidating on the first wearing has quickly become a favorite base note of mine. It gives this scent a nice dark twist along with the spiciness of the clove and the depth of the wine. The poppy is the same sweet bright-red floral I loved in Slippery Poppy Tincture, blending with the cherries nicely. This is one of the first BPALs I tried and still a favorite! :wub3:

So...I bought a bottle of this without testing. I probably shouldn't have, and I even got a little worried about it after trying some of the other BPAL scents (which so frequently smell different on me than I expect), but now that I try it I'm convinced I made the right decision after all.

It starts out very dark and borderline-resinous/woody, like Umbra but turned red instead of green. Gradually the honey and wine start to amp until they are both the focus. Maybe it's the tartness of the wine but this honey note is the truest I've smelled in a BPAL. It's darker than usual and I love it. The cherry mixes well with the wine and it does end up smelling more like a cherry wine than either of the things individually. The clove is present but not at all overpowering, as is the vetiver--there's a very dark, almost bitter base to this like charred wood, which I'm thinking must be the combination of those. Overall I really like this, and I'll be glad to have that full bottle when it arrives.

I was surprised to see this didn't have any rose in it, I though for sure I smelled some. Must've been the mix of the cherry and wine and maybe poppy

Wet on skin: fruity wine and what I thought was a juicy rose

Drying: sweet cherries and wine, some sort of floral note (must be the poppy)

Dry: Vanilla, Cherries and Wine

I don't get any clove, maybe my skin drinks it.

If there's honey in there it blessedly doesn't turn foot sweat on me woohoo

I like it enough to keep and use the imp but not enough for a full bottle

Salty pitch tar in the bottle and on application. This somehow gets worse and starts to rot, like slimy dead vegetation. Where did all the vanilla and honey and cherries and other, you know, good stuff go?? Scrubber.

This came as a frimp March 2015–and it was a wonderful surprise! It’s warm, soft, woodsy. The cherry is unique and beautiful, not at all cloying. It has a low throw, making it perfect for seductive wear.

I can’t stop smelling my hand, honestly. This may be a new Top 5.

ETA

Immediately, very tangy, juicy and red. Red wine that's been sitting out overnight, with candied overripe cherries nearby. Warm, honey-cream mixed in. Goes very woody on the drydown. Low throw, good wear. Love this.

Where I'd wear this: First dates, when you don't plan to wait. ;)

This was a frimp I got from the lab, I think when I ordered Nasty Woman (the first time, lol). I was hesitant to test it, because I'm neither a fan of cherry nor heavy musk, but I'll try anything once!

First Sniff Impression: Cherry isn't my favorite, but it was still interesting to smell. Pretty sweet, but not as sweet as I would expect from the description. But pretty heavy on the seduction with this one, and not in a way that I like. Reminds me of a Red Light district.

Wet in Vial: Very cherry, kind of a deep, sicky-sweet one like a cordial (probably the red wine and clove notes there). It's helped to be too sweet by the musk. Smells rather smokey, but not really as much as Tlazolteotl, another frimp I have that I was expecting to be similar to this one.

Drying Down on Skin: Drying down, the non-sweet notes (musk, vetiver, and clove, I guess) come out full force like a punch to the nostrils (not trying to be dramatic here, it was like breathing in wasabi or something). But if you kind of wave your hand in front of your face and don't inhale too closely, the sweet and musk really balance each other out nicely. Not as heavy, musky, and sensual as Tlazolteotl, but still in a similar category, in my mind.

Dry on Skin: After a while, it's even more balanced and smells like a deep red, cherry wine. Kind of luxurious!

Conclusion: Not my favorite scent. Glad it was free so I could try it, but I wouldn't order more. However, this is merely a personal preference; I think the title and description are pretty spot on. Awesome if you like deep, cherry wine scents! I passed it on to my cousin, who I thought would appreciate it more than me.

Received this scent as a frimp from the Lab.

This is a dark, sticky-sweet honey and clove on me, with just a hint of red wine and musk. The honey is very similar to my '16 Womb Fury, rich and warm without being too gourmand, but the clove is overpowering any cherry or wine. I like it, but don't desperately need a bottle.

This one throws me a little because I usually amp sweetness in anything, so I was expecting to mostly get honey and cherries. That's almost the opposite of what I got. I do smell the cherries, but they aren't the overtly sweet or candied kind I'm used to. The vetiver is really keeping a tight hold on all the sweets and making it incredibly smoky instead. It is a vetiver/cherry mix on me with a little clove and musk hanging out to keep them company. Cherry is usually cough syrup, and it isn't doing that here thank goodness. It really is a spicy, smokey cherry for me. Since it's a pretty sexy cherry that actually works, I'd call it a keeper.

I really wanted to love this. Half the notes I really love, and some I can tolerate... except for the honey and clove, maybe the vetiver. On me, clove turns to horseradish or wasabi, and honey amps to hell and back. Vetiver is a hit or miss. I thought perhaps with this blend, the honey and vetiver would play nice together, tempering the other. I was right with that, but it's a stinky tempered smell--and muddled with rancid horseradish. So, so sad it didn't work.

So pretty! Definitely want a bottle. The vanilla and honey are the standout notes on me with cherry, wine and musk backing them up. Vetiver was VERY present wet, but disappeared when dry.this smells edible without being too gormand.

I totally hated this one at first... it was so acrid and... bloody... with that metallic tang blood has. But ten minutes in and the cherry starts to come out and then the vanillaand honey follow... I love how Beths scents morph and I love the journey. Another beautiful scent.

In the imp and right after applying, this is intense honey and vanilla plus something spicy and almost resinous to me (definitely the clove, and maybe also the vetiver?). After drydown, it calms down a lot -- I end up with soft honey, vanilla, and cherry, with some clove still faintly hanging out in the background. It's like O, but with a subtle added spicy sweetness (although I think the honey note is more intense in O). If you find the vanilla/honey combo in O too in-your-face but otherwise like foody scents, this is worth trying. (I'm on the fence about whether I need a bottle of this, but I'll definitely keep trying the imp.)
