Plum blossom, vanilla sandalwood, nutmeg, and wild rice.

Aagh I like this! The plum is less floral and halfway towards the juicy-fruity end of the spectrum, but the overall effect actually makes me think of plum wine. A little bit tart.
The rice intrigues me because I can actually smell it. I never expected to find it in a perfume, but it's really nice (It could be contributing to that neat"plum sake/wine" memory)... it doesn't assault you with handfuls of grainy goodness or anything, but it's there! A little comforting, heh.
A leetle bit of nutmeg sprinkled throughout. Even though vanilla is a favorite note, I admit I can't find it half the time because other notes distract me... the "creaminess" of this one could be due to the vanilla and sandalwood, though.
This is sort of perfume-y like freshener spray is perfume-y; I haven't worn this a full day to test, but it might get annoying to me.
I really want to like this, though, because the theme is so perfectly ASIAN-- "LOVERS IN A RICE FIELD"?? My last name partly translates to "rice field" and I love the plum notes, therefore this is so NECESSARY.
I might cave and just get a bottle of this... Beth has tapped into my heritage weakness.
Pretty and spring-like. This seems to lie very close to the skin.

This doesn't smell like plum blossom on me; it smells like a really tart plum (plum flavored sweet tarts?). It starts off very strong and fruity with a bit of spice to it. The spice doesn't exactly smell like nutmeg to me, but it does smell like a baking spice type of scent. The spice is a short lived stage, and then it morphs back into being a tart fruity smell.

 

Lovers goes strong on me for about an hour and then fades fast, leaving behind just a light trace of sweet plum.

 

This is nice enough, and I really like its brief spicy stage, but overall it's probably too tart for me to wear very often. I like sweeter, juicier fruit fragrances.

In the bottle: Very sweet rice and a little fruit smell.

 

On me: VERY sweet and creamy rice and no fruit. This reminded me of the rice candy that you can get from grocery stores in the little green and red boxes with the edible rice paper around it. Unfortunately, I got sick off of those once and every time someone mentions the candy or has it around me, I get an "ugh" feeling in my stomach.

 

Overall: I really wanted to like this one, but the association just ruined it for me. I'll have to pass on keeping the bottle. Might see if my sister wants it.

In the Bottle ♦ Biting into a fresh picked plum while thinking intensely about your lover. Vanilla sandalwood and rice give it that milky edge of ecstasy, and the nutmeg is there to heighten your senses. Eating this plum is a metaphor ... It's so damn pretty too.

 

Initial Application ♦ While you're eating that plum the vibrations of your thoughts reach through space and tangle in the wet and wooden dreams of that lover. Your thoughts pull them to you. The nutmeg (although understated throughout) is strongest here, but it fades a little into graceful rice as the two of you meet magnetically in a soft hollow of the field.

 

Dry Down ♦ Sweet elegance and experienced love. Decadent Zen ... This is sophisticated without contrivance and speaks softly of passionate and generous love, wild and skilled. Plum, rice, vanilla sandalwood ... nutmeg have all fused. Uniquely sweet and creamy and a touch wooden. Polished ... but in the sense of action, delicious like rubbing your legs together slowly, sensual like stretching deep innocent places.

 

 

My favorite of the Shungas. It's just devastating in the most subtle way and truly beautiful.

This is mostly vanilla and juicy red plums, with a light, perfumey floral tinge. The sandalwood is lurking underneath, keeping things grounded. Sadly I don't smell any nutmeg, but the rice may be adding the sort of nutty feeling. This is really a pretty scent, but I can't shake the feeling that I've smelled something very similar at Yankee Candle. More for the rest of you, I guess.

In the imp: A very clean scent. It smells a lot like rice to me without much else, which is surprising. Let's see if the sandalwood is stronger when it's on...

 

On, wet: Plum! And rice. I'm finding it a little weird to have my arm smell so much like rice.

 

On, dry: It's nice, though kind of nondescript. I'm not so sure that vanilla notes work on me -- it's not turning into anything plastic or gross, but it's just generic.

I smell the plum and rice most strongly - what immediately comes to mind is that plum wine I had once from some Asian-owned liquor store on New Year's Eve. It's nice, but not as mind-bendingly yummy as I hoped.

Wet on skin: The vanilla is coming out but seems very sweet--more than it usually is on me.

 

Dry on skin: Never got any nutmeg or rice, but the plum/sandalwood/vanilla combination is lovely, although a bit sweeter and more high-pitched than I would like.

Mmmmmm...

 

Wet on skin: Plummy goodness.

 

Dry on skin: The plum fades somewhat, and the vanilla sandalwood comes more to the fore. Every now and then I get whiffs of rice, but it doesn't really stand out.

 

Verdict: This is a lovely soft scent, something I'd wear for an elegant night out.

In the vial: Plum, fruity, juicy, and slightly bitter; along with it something that I can't pin down, white and starchy and so probably the rice.

 

On me: The plum loses its bitterness as it is smoothed out by creamy vanilla. The gently-sweetened plum has a bit of a candle-like quality to it, which might be toned down by the sandalwood or nutmeg were I getting any of either; however, the candle-like quality isn't offputting. There's perhaps a touch of paleness from the rice, but mostly this is just plum and vanilla. Scent-color is a waxy pale purple. Throw is moderate to low.

 

Verdict: Lovers in a Ricefield is pleasant but a bit flat. It's just plum and vanilla for me, which is nice enough but lacks dimension—there's no warmth and texture from the spices, barely any starch from the rice, or whatever else I was supposed to find here. I don't know yet if I'll keep my decant, but I certainly don't need a bottle.

This is one of those ones i'm not sure about. It's kinda light, but it smells good, kinda like a plumy riceefield smell, but i'm not sure if it's worth it to have a lot of it. And then i'm not sure if aging will be good to it or not. ACK! Why must it be difficult!

 

I think i'll probably end up just getting an imp of this, cause it's nice enough to keep aroung.

Dry: Plum blossom and rice.

 

Overall: I like the plum but there's something in this scent that makes me uncomfortable... I had to wash it off as it was inducing a gag effect whenever I took a sniff.

The plum is nice and subtle. It's tempered by the vanilla sandalwood so it's not too fruity. Nice!

As soon as I sniffed this one in the bottle, I had the suspicion that the plum blossom would overpower any hint of the other notes. On me, I was quite right. This smells a lot like Fruit Stripes gum to me, with a yeasty scent in the backdrop. Not a very flattering description; it does smell better than it sounds, but it's not for me. After a while, it smells a lot like fruity beer.

Well, I remember liking this the first time I tried it but now I am not so sure.

 

In the Bottle this smells nice, sweet, and fruity with what seems to be a little creamyness as well.

 

On me it turns into a sickly sweet almost rotten smell. Ick! What happened?

This is pretty good. It's my second favorite of this year's Shungas next to Couple Consulting an Enpon, but I still don't know that I would need more than a decant. The rice smells disconcertingly buttery to me...as a vegan if I were eating it I'd need to double check the ingredients, for sure. The plum is gorgeous and creamy, the first BPAL plum to win my heart, and of course the vanilla sandalwood is OMG orgasmic! The longer it's on, the more I like it, but I just can't shake off the sneaking suspicion that somebody's been slathering my rice in butter behind my back...Mom, is that you? No, Mom, I do not have a protein deficiency. There's not even protein in butter anyway, Mom, God! I know butter when I smell it, and besides will you please get outta my perfume of edo period porn and stop putting beef in my vegetables and trying to tell me it's frickin broccoli?!? Ahem.

Wet: sweet/tart, fruity

Drydown: The fruitiness is becoming creamy. Must be the rice as it's not a vanilla-cream. This is a very nice scent of stone fruits covered in cream. Then, as is the case with many "stone fruit" scents, it turned bitter. As nice as this is, it's not "wow"ing me.

In the bottle, it's almost overpowering plum blossom and wild rice. Smells WAY sweet and fruity - this is a concern for me. However, as I bought the full-size I'm going to try!

 

Wet on, still has that sharp, overpowering plum blossom smell.

 

Drydown, still quite plummy, though the vanilla sandalwood and nutmeg are giving rise. (Had wondered where those were!)

 

Dry - at almost 7 hours after application - It's very light. The plum blossom has toned down quite a bit and it's balancing well with the vanilla sandalwood & nutmeg, and I'm guessing that (as many others have said) the wild rice is lending to a "creamy" sensation.

 

I like it on me, but it's not one I can smell in the bottle again.

Yummy yummy! It makes me want to eat candy.

 

It's a very creamy plum blossom scent where the nutmeg calms the sharpness down and the sandalwood lends a smooth earthiness. In a way, it smells like strawberries and cream, but it's definitely plum and now strawberry.

 

I don't get tart or sweet from this. Just smooth, subdued and extremely creamy in a not so foody way.

Oh, oh oh oh. This is gorgeous.

 

In the bottle it's mostly plum blossom with a bit of sweet vanilla. On my skin the gently fruity floral of the plum blossom blends with not only the vanilla, but the warm sandalwood, and the rice lends a softness that's just delicious. The nutmeg is very subtle, just the right touch of spice and darkness to add depth to what would otherwise be a very light scent.

 

I am soooooo so glad that I got a full bottle of this. A lovely and unique scent for spring!

i think of my granny's sweet rice milk she'd make us when i was a child.

 

love this. the vanilla pokes out and it has this very creamy scent but without leaving the icky residue of milk. milk seems to curdle on my skin but this... this is definately an exception for the rice.

and offcorse, vanilla sandalwood is the best evah!

I guess the nutmeg and wild rice make this scent so intriuging, it smells very special

so the listed notes are perfect for me AND my skin and I just knew it

I love t wear this when I feel happy and cobfident about myself and it feels just perfect for wearing when I am hanging out with the girls, watching silly movies and bakinf popcorn

 

I LOVE my bottle and would probably never ever part from it
