    A Cute Kid

Near the end of last semester, we arrived to pick her up from school and she was hanging out in her classroom drawing pictures on the white board. Of course I joined in and wrote funny looking kid with an arrow pointing at her. She changed it and wrote a cute kid, and gave me her big giant smile as if to say I WIN! Pale lavender and Tahitian vanilla with a smudge of chalk dust and a pop of strawberry bubblegum. This is such a fun blend! I didn't expect to like this. It reminds me of the bubblegum kids' shampoo that my niece's had. It's light, sweet, fruity, and bubblegummy, that somehow manages to smell clean. This doesn't morph too much on me, either. This is a fun weekend scent. The lavender is pretty light, but I think it's providing the clean base. This is just a happy scent that I'd recommend to "clean laundry" fans. After drydown, the bubblegum calms down, but still makes the lavender/vanilla fun. Medium wear length, medium throw.

    The Pillory

Captain Lilith is a harsh taskmaster and her first mate has been put up for public humiliation. His crime must have been not making her buttered pasta fast enough. Can he escape? Will people come by and throw tomatoes at him? Caramelized rum ice cream with a splatter of berries. This smells exactly like the description. This is a really, really nice sweet vanilla with rum in the background, it kinda reminds me of bread pudding. It's really strong, and it doesn't seem to warp and become plasticy like some vanilla blends. The berries aren't super apparent, and I think they kinda morph to smelling like raisins, where bread pudding is coming from. It's wonderful for those gourmand lovers.
  3. As I was carrying Lilith around the San Diego comic con, people would stop us and ask to take a photo of her cosplaying Wonder Woman. As I set her down, a change would come over her: she would light up, engage the person, and charm the hell out of them while the photo was being taken. She would be so charismatic and charming, and then would then come back to me, this shining, happy little kid, and ask to be picked up all over again. I was so proud of her, and I love my lil Themysciran princess. Rich, sweet, valiant amber, coconut milk, honeyed saffron, gleaming gold-gilded leather, and sweet olive blossom. In the bottle, there's the textured, golden scent of saffron over the top of an ambery blend. The way saffron feels in my nose often makes me think of the color and texture of dried calendula flowers, like how they might feel rolled between my fingers if I got some. That texture passes over amber and a hint of coconut. On my skin, the honey blooms instead, a golden-ambered honey. I get a little olive flower sliding underneath, sleek as oil, and a scarce ghost of coconut milk lingers. As the blend dries, the olive blooms in full. It was the one note I was iffy on, and I don't think I really love it here. This is a mild blend on me: not a puissant, bold Wonder Woman, but a soft, understated presence. I'll see what more settling does.
  4. Walking and holding hands with my Lilith as we joke and giggle is one the greatest joys of my life. She is growing up fast, and these moments will happen less and less, but I will forever treasure them. I hope that when she is an adult, she will look back on these memories and feel 1/100 of the happiness that she brings to her father. Sunflowers and California poppies, vanilla-tinged oak bark, and a spill of sugary breakfast cereal. In the bottle - Not sure what happened at the Post, but the oil in my bottle was barely at the top of the label. That said, this seems suuuuper up my alley. I live in Southern California, and this smells like sweetened summer air. Wet - A little grassy. Totally OK with this initial grassiness, since it seems to level itself out almost immediately. Drydown - Hm. There's a component in this that's making my nose twitch. Maybe the oak bark? I'm trying to think of other oak blends and whether those bother me ... all the ones I can think of (Haloes, Antikythera, Arana, Oak Moon -- pretty much everything except Lawful) are good on me. Maybe this is that Lawful oak? Or maybe I'm placing the blame incorrectly and it's the sunflowers or poppies that are throwing me off? Or the fact that it's vanilla-tinged? Hm. I really don't know what's going on here. Verdict - I thought I'd love this. Assumed it'd be an instant hit, actually. I'll give it another shot in a few weeks, though I don't think my skin chemistry will cooperate. All the sweetness and nostalgia and florals were gobbled up by my skin. I'll definitely save it for a locket or oil burner or something. It's absolutely lovely in the bottle and I'm really disappointed that I don't get to wear the gorgeousness I smelled in there.
  5. Raisin em right! The t-shirt that Lilith is wearing is Alaska Thunderf*cks Lil Poundcake. Lilith, I am your real dad and I always will be! Pomegranate cotton candy. This might've leaked a little in transit because I can smell it before I even open the bottle. I loooove it already. In the bottle - Deeply sugary. Not getting much fruit. Wet - This feels kind of thin, like the sugar water you put out for hummingbirds. Or really weak Kool-Aid. Unimpressed so far, but If I can smell half as good as the bubble wrap this came in? Oof. Drydown - OH GAWD. It reminds me of a Bubblicious gum from my childhood, though I can't put my finger on which one. This is happy pomegranate, if that makes sense. Reminds me less of the underworld and more of eating messy, juicy poms on the front lawn as a kid. Verdict - Not a substantial perfume but it's just SO. MUCH. FUN. that I don't care how much I have to reapply. Considering a backup because it's friggin' delicious.

    The Spectral Flower Girl

The ghosts swarm. They speak as one person. Each loves you. Each has left something undone… With love to Rae Armantrout for the poem. Black lilies, red roses, and baby’s breath. A mild light flower scent with a shot of something metallic in the background. Vanilla? Midway? The dry down is a lightly warmed gourmand scent. Clean soap, roses. After 2hrs it faded to a faint rose-soap scent. This is bottle worthy for me.

    Storyboard: Julius Caesar

Lilith has been taking kiddo Shakespeare classes for the past four years, and absolutely loves them. Last year, they did a mini-series focusing on Julius Caesar, King Lear, and the Tempest. The kids analyze the plays, and perform scenes from them; then, at the end of the cycle, they put together a play of their own based on the themes in the works of Shakespeare that they have studied. Their play this time around was entitled Evil Bunny. Lilith performed as Marc Antony, and showed off her orator skills. Hearing Lilith speak at Caesar’s funeral gave me the chills. She came to bury Caesar, not to praise him. Macerated myrrh, rose petals, and iris with frankincense and a splash of blood. Again not my normal sort of scent but I figured I would give it a shot. On early drydown I get sweetish myrrh, with something powdery (iris?) and non tea rose rose. Nothing is overpowering, I do not really get the frank or blood at this juncture. The rose is pretty nice, sweetish not too fresh but not long dead either. After a little bit the frank comes in with the myrrh. Still no blood though. Eta: late dry down appears to be a sweet myrrh and rose petal.

    Storyboard: The Tempest

Lilith has been taking kiddo Shakespeare classes for the past four years, and absolutely loves them. Last year, they did a mini-series focusing on Julius Caesar, King Lear, and the Tempest. The kids analyze the plays, and perform scenes from them; then, at the end of the cycle, they put together a play of their own based on the themes in the works of Shakespeare that they have studied. Their play this time around was entitled Evil Bunny. Lilith played Ariel and Miranda, and said she liked playing Miranda more. She said it’s easy to relate, because her mom is a lot like Prospero. I’m still trying to figure out whether that’s a compliment or an insult. Ivy and lime rind, marigold and moss. Please keep in mind this ia not my normal sort of scent but since no one had reviewed yet I thought I would take a shot. On early drydown I get mostly the ivy with strong undertones of an almost bitter lime but a little sort of spicy floral sweetness from the marigold. I do not get any moss at this point. It is actually pretty nice, not something I would reach for but not bad, not quite masculine, I would say pretty unisex. I will update if late drydown changes. Eta: late dry down is actually a nice rounding of fresh lime and ivy made nice by a breath of marigold.

    Spinning on Graves

Late at night, as you walk through a dark and creepy cemetery, all is quiet except for the giggling of two kids: one is eight and one is fifty-eight. They are standing in the middle of the tombstones; the bigger kid is spinning the little kid around by her arms. They spin and spin and then fall down laughing. What could be more fun than falling down on people’s graves? Dorian and lavender mist, crushed grass, cypress leaf, and a drop of clove. In The Bottle: I get a faint whiff of mint, and a subtle note of fresh cut grass. It's all very light, even in the bottle. Wet On Skin: The lavender in this "mist" form has something vaguely lemony about it. It reminds me overall more of Alice than Dorian. That said, they feel in a similar niche, a soft and lovely gender-neutral scent. Dry Down: THERE'S the Dorian! He's definitely there, though obviously mixed with other things. The clove is also out now, but softly, in the background. Considering the notes, this fragrance has a very low throw and is overall very soft, like a whisper of Dorian whilst drinking a bit of black lemony tea on a warm day in a field of grass. So much more than I anticipated, so glad I got a bottle!

    Little Photojournalist

Lilith Barrial, budding photojournalist, at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, New Orleans, LA. She’s been snapping photos since she was a toddler; we have whole photo albums of blurry photos of shoes and pavers from those days. She loves taking her powder pink instax on trips, and loves to document playdates with her friends. Cathedral incense and rock candy. Just as listed. This is the incense of midnight mass, sweetened with unflavored rock candy (reads as just sugar). This incense does not seem to work on me though (unlike the incense in mystical aphorisms). This is very simple and uncomplicated, a definitr try for incense lovers, especially if you like cathedral incense particularly.

    Apocalyptic Horseprincess

Lilith has always enjoyed the company of monsters. She grew up at Dark Delicacies, and two of her favorite toys when she was a baby were a Freddy Krueger rubber mask and a matching Freddy doll (with razor hands that were blunted by Grandma Sue so Lil didn’t poke an eye out). She has fears just like any other kid, but her monster friends help protect her from “real life” dangers. When she gets scared late at night, we talk about her ghost friends that roam the house, the vampires that live in our basement, the werewolves that hang out in the yard, the zombies that keep spare brains in our garage freezer, and all the other monsters (imaginary monster friends?) that love her and keep her safe from “real world” dangers. When we vend at horror-centric conventions, the monsters are always so nice to Lilith. At Midsummer Scream, she gets tons of high-fives from shambling ghouls and radioactive plant horrors, and she gets hugs from demented clowns and slobbering werebeasts. Ever since Lilith was in kindergarten, we’ve helped with her school’s Halloween party, so she’s grown up loving setting up and working in haunted houses and horror mazes. This photo is from this year’s Midsummer Scream. Lilith was inspecting a headless horseman scene, getting ideas for this year’s Halloween maze. Crushed mint and neon lime, sour candy powder, and wild plum. So wet, this is intensely discordant to me. The mint and sour candy powder war with each other. And the throw is long so... whew, that waa hairy for a bit. Dry down is a somewhat pleasant surprise, the mint calms down a lot (I wouls say this is spearmint, not peppermint) and blends nicely with the sour powder candy which has also calmed but does have a definite powdery sort of scent. The lime is oddly neon, but not overly strong. I do not get the plum yet, which is a disappointment as I love a good plum note, so I hope with aging it comes. A unique and fun scent, not quite like anything else I had. If you like mint or candy scents that are not overwhelmed by those notes, try it.
  12. Our friend, Lee Moyer, asked if Lilith could be a model for an illustration of Wednesday Addams that he was working on. They wanted a photo of her in a lab and of course I jumped at the chance to take a photo of my baby. I grabbed my camera and we set up a little table. We had so much fun decorating the table. Lilith was running around grabbing things and saying, “Can we use this? Can we use that?” Luckily for her, there’s no shortage of creepy things scattered around her house. A little kid’s interpretation of a gothy goth perfume: sugared clove and vanilla patchouli with cacao, dried Avignon rose petals, and a bit of black cherry. Ahhhh, sugar crusted spices all swimming around in creamy, dreamy perfect patch. The beautiful clove is the top note, along with heavenly vanilla and the fizzy cherry notes, this verges on being gourmand in a candied way. The rose is dry and delicately entwines with the heavier dark notes, this is so pretty and youthful for a spiced fragrance. I seriously love sugared scents, and Wednesday hits my sweet spots just right. I can also see this becoming even more glorious in a few months as the cherry note deepens with the rose, and it really is a happy shoegazer girly version of Goth Queen to me.

    Winter at the Capitol

It was a cold, cold day, and a thick fog obfuscated everything. It was tremendously symbolic in myriad ways. It’s funny. Lilith was two months old when Obama was elected, and I remember how I felt that night as the election returns were coming in. When his presidency was announced, it was like a fist surrounding my heart unclenched, and I could breathe again. With Lilith in my arms, I inexplicably wept with relief, suddenly believing with all my heart that she was safe, and that her future—all of our futures—were on a trajectory of kindness and justice buoyed by hope. The country is flawed and imperfect, but we were on our way to making things right. Then November of 2016 happened, and in January, a thick fog descended on the National Mall and the fist clamped around my heart again. The hope and valor of iris blossoms twined with chrysanthemum’s bold fearlessness, violet’s vigilance, oleander’s caution, and white and red roses for unity. I have one of those things with iris and violet, where I have to try any blend that has it. I also am feeling the same melancholy and strangeness this past year, for reasons in my country that I'm not sure I understand anymore, as well as my own personal catastrophe and rebuilding. Wet in bottle: Strong iris, powdery, rooty, dusty purple ash color that I associate with that smell. On skin: When it gets a chance to settle, it starts off powdery iris, and then I get a strong, but solid rose petal. This has dewiness, wetness. It's like the more heavy, non-tea-rose BPAL rose. Iris and violet are hard for me to pull apart since they activate the same ionone button for me, but I do swear I get a little bit of that dark, sweet, powdery background. With more time I am getting a bit of that mum-green-stemmy, slightly sour but radiant herbal. It's not overpowering. It elevates the blend above a floral and gives it a bit of bittersweet. I will be honest, I have no idea what oleanders smell like. With time: Oh, this is nice. I'm a rose amper, which tends to make most roses a no go. Somehow, this remains tempered and is a bit of a powdery iris predominantly with a restrained bouquet of roses nearby. It's a beautiful and elegant, non-trumpeting floral blend. Strangely, even with the flowers, it's austere, and feels like it has a good depth and strength to it. Huh.

On the last day of school, some of the families get together at the beach to celebrate the onset of summer break. It was cold, grey, and overcast, but that was hardly daunting for this little Oceanid. Lilith and her friends splashed and played in water I couldn’t put a toe into. She boogie boarded for the first time that day and fell in love. The beach bunny I have now is a far cry from the Tiny Virgo who wouldn’t go near the sand because she didn’t want her Doritos to get dirty. Driftwood and sea salt submerged in a marine layer, a touch of sweet carnation, bright neroli, and a sandy strip of kelp. So my past few years' worth of experience with oceanic and coastal BPAL has not always ended well, since the sea salt note = tortilla chip on me. Apparently I'm made of GMOs, and become quite snackable when that specific ocean-themed accord strikes my fur. I am a sucker for anything marine and ocean themed, though, so, well, of course this ended up with me. Wet in bottle: A bit more on the cologne/sweet marine musk in the bottle. Not too much of the slight corn-chip that I get from some sea salt blends. Maybe a hint of green snap at end, Ogygia-kelp-style. On skin: Whoa, 180! Swish and swirl and KELP me, baby. There's a swift whoosh of neroli, and the marine/cooler musk I initially detected gets uplifted by a slightly citrus-blossom whisper, and then I get that rising golden neroli hum and yellow-gold aura. The kelp asserts itself briefly, but doesn't overwhelm, although it does give me a bit of a Beaver Moon (non cheesecake) and Sturgeon Moon vibe. Drying: Once it's had a bit more time to settle, I can get salt, but amazingly it's not making me into a bag of Paqui chips, it's a little bit of spikeyness overlying the scent, which is segueing quite nicely into a bit of a dry-ish but subtle wood. It's definitely a quiet wood in the background, maybe a gentle soft cedar or even sandalwood-type whisper. It's still wrapped in kelp, draped just so. It's fading pretty fast on me at this point, but after longer wear, it sits close to my (man) skin, mostly salt and a quiet seaweed, supported by a swoosh of aquatic musk and neroli. Since neroli is sometimes recruited in modern colognes, I do get more of a 'mainstream' vibe from this but it is eminently wearable and I'd recommend this to anyone who likes a good BPAL aquatic. No corn chips here! It's like a softer A Fit of Artistic Enthusiasm, which is one of my all time faves.

    Potamides

Thanks to the much-needed winter rains this year, my little river nymph was finally able to see the creeks in Eaton Canyon as something other than dry, fawn-beige, tumbleweed-strewn strips of sandwash. In the past, shes always been ambivalent about hiking, but something about the rushing streams and sparkling waters enchanted her, and she fell in love. Honeysuckle and honey, water lilies and white sage. Wet, in bottle: A swirly melange of slightly brackish leafy notes. I get a strong, reedy dry grassiness. Shortly after application: A little bit of mud? Or is that my bias due to the copy? I'm getting more of that sappy green, perhaps the honeysuckle and white sage together. I'm also getting a distinctly fleshy lily note, but unlike others I've experienced before, there's an interesting... cold waxiness to it? On for a bit: Oh, there's a kiss of honey. I guess that sort of chewy sweetness is what I was detecting changing my usual experience of lily, which is strong, brash, and not at all demure. I think the leafiness is transitioning more and more to sage, as opposed to pure grass. I'm enjoying it. As time passes, this stays more of a grassy herbal floral, with a little incensy/southwestern smokiness or haziness (more haze!) from the sage. There is an undercurrent of warm honey lurking in the background, and I can detect the honeysuckle as soaring backdrop to the herbal. I think the lilies are rounding out the purely sweet honeysuckle and giving a bit of round waxiness and 'substance' to the scent. This is certainly, to me at least, not an aquatic. I can see it as a warm afternoon spent in a sun-dappled park where daylilies and honeysuckle grow by the side of a stream, with wild sage adding a haze to the air while little bumblebees doddle around, attacking flowers. Not sure what I have in my collection that resembles this... it's very unique!

    Baby’s First Con Panel

On July 20th, Lilith went to her first SDCC panel. As a carny kid and the tiniest Lab Rat, shes been to tons of cons and events, and weve been taking her to San Diego Comic Con since birth. While shes always had a good time, this was the first year that she was independently invested in her enjoyment there. She tore up the vending area, played video game demos, went looking for Arthas ice cream shop, and sat through several panels of her choosing. It was an experience that was truly /hers/ for the first time, and that was a really amazing piece of magic that I was privileged to witness. The scent of the soft pretzel we hid in our backpack, plus a bit of leftover chocolate chip cookie. In the bottle this is all chocolate, really delicious with a little cookie, not buttery. The throw on this is very limited to me and my skin seems to eat it. Non buttery chcolate chip cookie with faint whisps of something with a little salt and savory. Very pleasant, not complex though. And as I said, my skin devours it. It is fresh from the mail, so ymmv.

    Pew! Pew!

There is nothing that sparks joy for me quite like sharing something I love with Lilith. Shes been playing console games with me on and off since she was five, though she took a break from Diablo for a while after Brian bailed on her to chase after a treasure goblin. Blue raspberry slushy, a bowl of strawberries, and microwavable popcorn. This was one of the bottles I had to get for myself as a gamer with a gamer family. In the bottle it is all sort of fake blue raspberry, but on the skin a little fresh not plasticy strawberry comes to mix with the candy like blue raspberry. The popcorn note comes then, a little buttery, a little salty. I was worried about it but it actually blends nicely. This is a foodie blend, but interesting. The popcorn keeps it from being cloying. I will update for late drydown. Also this is fresh from the mail, so ymmv.

    Zip Line

My Danger Baby loves to do crazy things and for some reason, I am always chosen to accompany her on these adventures. (Editors note: its because her mother possesses an actual survival instinct.) At the Renaissance Faire, we rode the zip line. and lets just say that it rode up a bit on my naughty bits. As we stepped off the ledge, I screamed MY BALLS, and Lilith thought it was soooooo funny. Brown leather and bourbon vanilla with honeyed oudh and cinnamon buns. First of all, i suck at reviews. BUT I love this. Very well blended. At first the leather and cinnamon dominates, but then the drydown happens and it all kind of melts together into this warm, comforting, soft leather and bakery scent. I do feel its somewhat masculine, but not enough to scare me away, which most masculine scents do. Glad to have blind bottled.

    Paying Her Respects

Liliths annual visit to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Star jasmine and tobacco leaf. Well, I'll be darned! I'm the first to review? I'll do my best! I chose this because of the simplicity of the notes. Just two and I love both! AND I loved the visit through the St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 when I visited NOLA. It's probably my favorite city. This is very strong and for jasmine lovers. A little goes a long way and it lasted most of the day for me. No need to re-apply. The Star Jasmine is exactly that. The Star of the perfume! Tobacco leaf comes out later and seems to tame and soften the jasmine with it's sweetness. I bet this ages really well! See? Simple! And I hope it was helpful.

Gas Masks and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

My offspring loves crossbows, gas masks, and kittens. She loves unicorns and rainbows and rhinestones and glitter, insects and Spongebob and fart jokes and whoopee cushions. She has a Nerf arsenal that would make her great-great-great-great-great (so many greats) Grandpa Attila proud, and a sea of big-eyed, rainbow-poofy plushies you could (probably literally) drown in. She loves fashion dolls as much as she loves anatomical models, Legos as much as she loves jewelry, and Hamlet as much as she loves My Little Pony. I love the diversity of her interests, and thatover the yearsshe is finding peace with loving what she loves, regardless of what anyone else might think. Cotton candy and jellybeans with sugar cookie crumbles and vanilla frosting. Well....this is sweet! Holy sugar, Batman! On me while wet, this mainly amps a strong, sweet cherry scent. After it dries, I can totally also get whiffs of cotton candy and jellybeans. It's way more candy than cookie or frosting. It's very much as advertised, but I'm not sure it's for me.

    Vampire Princess

Last Halloween, Lilith wanted to be Maleficent, so we hooked her up with a Maleficent costume. The horns were imbalanced, though, and she was frustrated, so she decided to wear the rest of the costume sans horns and be a vampire. She looked amazing (in my motherly opinion), but when the time came to trick or treat, her voluminous skirts and flowing cape made it difficult for her to keep up with the other kids. We tried knotting it, hiking it up, everything and in the end, she vowed never to wear another costume that she can't run and jump in. Blood musk and lavender with bourbon vanilla, plum oudh, black patchouli, and Romanian wildflowers. Upon first applying this, I got so excited. I smelled the lovely blood red musk, the lavender, and dare I say it- even the vanilla. It has a subtle sexiness and yet also a sweetness. Perfection. And then....all I could smell is dry wildflowers and some patch. The lavender is just barely discernible wayy in the background. All the muskiness and sweetness are sucked dry on me. It literally took my skin about 2 minutes to ruin this. If you don't have weird skin chemistry like I do, this would be absolutely gorgeous. I think this will be a massive winner for a lot of people.

    Snowball Fight

Last winter, we took Lilith to New York for the first time. We were en route to the march in Washington, DC, with our friends, and made a few pit stops on the way. This photo was taken a split second before I got snowballed in the face at the East 72nd Street Playground. The handsome devil in the background is one of Liliths best friends in the world, Kyle. Snowballs and vanilla ice cream. This is a freezing cold scent for sure! Cool mint, ozone, and vanilla. A perfect winter scent in a bottle. I think of icy vanilla kissed with minty snow when I smell it.

    Closet Raid

Funny how much better Lilith looks in my clothes than I do! This is the scent of generations of children raiding their parents closets: my grandmother and mothers Chanel No. 5, my father and grandfathers Lilac Vegetal, my Snake Oil, and Liliths lavender blossoms. I ordered Closet Raid because I love the notes, and also because I remember how I used to love trying on my mom's clothes, and watching her get ready to go out. She's more of a Chanel No. 19 aficionado; I can still remember how special it felt when she dabbed the tiniest amount of scent on my wrists and behind my ears. In the bottle, Closet Raid is a smooth, elegant, heady fragrance. I get little wafts of soft florals, like sachets fastened to hangers releasing their sweet scent, and a slight touch of something soapy-clean, like an old-fashioned aftershave. Wet, I get mostly a sweet and powdery aroma. I'm not a huge fan of this stage of the drydown, but it's very short-lived. Which is great, because... Dry, Closet Raid is glorious. It's one of those classic huff-your-wrist scents, a rich Snake-Oil-and-purple-flowers blend with resins and florals melding together to form a glowing, sophisticated whole. It reads as "warm" to me, but it's polished, not earthy. There's a little hint of the aftershave/cologne; I tend not to classify scents as "masculine" vs. "feminine," but if it's helpful I would call Closet Raid unisex. I could see putting this on as a going-out scent, and putting the smallest drop of scent on the inside of my daughter's wrist while I'm getting ready. Closet Raid holds a special place both in my collection and my heart.

    Heck on Wheels

Sometimes I make a perfume just because I love this kid. Red velvet confetti cupcakes and bubblegum. I'm a red velvet cake fiend. Eating too much of it is bad, but I'm also happy to smell like it. So far the most authentic red velvet cake scent for me has been Cake Smash, but I've only got a decant of that and I'm hoping for something more readily available. Heck on Wheels was a blind bottle purchase directly from the Lab. When I open the bottle it's just like unwrapping a big, fat piece of pink bubble gum. The red velvet cake note from Peppermint Cream Cupcake peeks out just a little when I put it on, and it's almost like a cupcake with a layer of bubble gum-flavored frosting. If I stick my wrist directly under my nose there's a sort of faintly musty smell, but the throw is a pink and red sugary cloud. I find that it's truest to the description if I apply it in the crooks of my elbows. On the day it arrived, I was so excited that I couldn't wait for it to settle. I can't say how close that was to what it's going to be as it ages, but I can tell you it's got a medium throw and lasted for at least six hours. On a side note, I put Do You Like Clowns? on while there was still a trace of Heck on Wheels, and they're not bad together if you really want a sugar overload. Most of the Lab's foodie scents get more foodie with age, at least for me, and the bottle only arrived two days ago. Everything that's sweet smells pretty different on me depending on the time of the month, the weather, what I ate, and even my application method (sweeter when I dab it on with a finger than from the rim of the bottle). I may well be editing this review sometime down the road.

    The Goddess of Mischief

Lilith has a ton of empathy for the God of Mischief. I think many kids identify with Loki because they know what it’s like to be passed over, to be ignored in favor of a shinier relative or friend, and what it feels like to not be as strong or powerful as some of your peers. He may be evil(ish), but he has a sense of humor and a grasp of irony that kids relate to, and that’s worth its weight in Alfheimian gold nuggets. Thor is great and all, but Loki has /gone through some shit/, and Lilith respects that. But what are the main reasons why Lilith digs Loki? “He looks like me, and he’s really funny.” Girl!Loki costume by Chrissy Lynn! White lavender and sweet amber, green oudh, and inky musk. Lilith: The Goddess of Mischief is such a trickster! When I first sniffed, it was overwhelmingly straight up EO lavender. Last night, I figured it might be a good nighttime scent... huge mistake! It morphed into something so complex and gorgeous, I couldn't stop sniffing. All of the notes commingle beautifully into something that smells super expensive; the expensive perfume you wear to a very special date night or event. The lavender becomes sweet, and the oudh and musk are light but make this perfume very sexy... which feels so wrong. Definitely a scent that will make you feel like a goddess, or a god.
