    Fae

I got this as a frimp, and although I don't mind fruity florals - they're about the only florals I'll wear - I'm very cautious of bergamot as it has a nasty habit of turning sour on my skin. In the imp: Sweet fruity floral with a touch of musk. Wet: Pretty much the same. Drydown: Oooh there's the oakmoss! Oakmoss is the only green note I like so I'm quite happy that's it's noticeable in this. It's not the dominant note, the peach and heliotrope is at the forefront, but it's most definitely there. A fruity floral that's also a little earthy and green. I like this a lot more than I thought I would, but I'm still wary of the bergamot. Dry: Mainly peach now, with touch of heliotrope and musk, and a little bergamot adding a little tartness. The oakmoss is fading rather quickly now. It's light, sweet but not sickly sweet, and it makes me smile. It's a happy scent. It has good throw too, but I'm not sure it's going to last long on me. After an hour: Soft musky peach with just a hint of floral. It's maybe a little powdery but it works with this. It reminds me a little of Dorian too, I guess that's the musk. Dorian is one of my faves and I love musk so I'm not complaining. This is way lighter and more feminine than what I normally like, but like it I do. I feel this imp will get a lot more use in a few months when the weather warms up. Today it's 10C, grey, drizzling and windy - not really the weather for Fae!

    Euphrosyne

I got this as a frimp and I'm not sure this is going to work for me as I generally don't do florals. However vanilla is nearly always a winner on me and I do like jasmine, but gardenia is an unknown and I don't like rose much at all. Although tea rose is far better than most others. In the imp: Yep jasmine, rose and what I guess is gardenia along with the creaminess of vanilla. Not bad at all for a floral. Wet: Orange peel! I rather like the smell of orange peel. Drydown: Hello jasmine induced headache. At least I know it will only last a minute and disappear. Jasmine and orange peel. Werd and yet strangely compelling. Dry: It's mainly jasmine and gardenia now, with the vanilla underneth and just a little rose. It's actually quite a nice spicy floral and vanilla, but I wish the vanilla were stronger. Nice, but not really me.

    Ephemera

I am not a floral person so I didn't have high hopes for this one. However I don't mind lily and I do like violet, although it does tend to go soapy on me. Wet it was surprisingly lovely. Sweet floral with something almost fruity. As it dried the violet got stronger, plus a sharper note emerged which my nose immediately said was lavender. Of course that's not a listed note so I'm assuming it's the chamomile or the autumn leaves. But whatever it is my brain wants to interpret it as lavender - which I hate. Not for me I'm afraid, although it was surprisingly lovely for the first 5 minutes or so!

    Debauchery

I got this as frimp from the lab, and although I immediately recognised it as one I had on my list to try I couldn't remember a single note it contained. When I first opened it I immediately recognised red musk which I love, along with another note I first thought was vetivert. Upon looking it up I realised that was civet. I've never tried an oil with civet in it before, but I know it's something that a lot of people can't wear. Luckily it appears I am not one of them. Wet this is all red musk along with the civet which on me at least is a somewhat dirty sex scent, but not in a sharp way. It's smoother. The opium soon appears too, giving it a perfumey smoky layer. As it dries the civet softens but never disappears, just giving the rest that darker edge. It has average last and has only a little throw. This is surprising as usually red musk throws like crazy on me, however I did only put little on. I like this A LOT. It's warm and sexy, but with a hint of a dark side to it. Like someone who's into S&M but very few people realise it. Possible bottle.

    Coyote

At first this is warm, musky and dusty dry grasses. And then... powder. Bloody amber gets me nearly every time, pity because I really liked this.

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

This is the first mint and vanilla oil I've tried so I have nothing to compare it with. However it may not be the last. At first it is mint ice-cream on me, but gradually the vanilla strengthens and warms up so although it's still very much mint and vanilla it doesn't remind me quite as strongly of ice-cream. And from there it never changes on me. It has good last and has some soft throw. Actually the throw seems to disappear after an hour or so, but then I get the odd whiffs of it when I least expect it for another 3-4 hours. It's not really "me" but I do like it all the same, and I suspect I'll like it more come Spring. Edit: Forget spring, it's now very much winter here and I love it! I'm regretting not getting a second bottle while I could.

    Temple Viper

I'll say this up front. I LOVE this. It's a soft, sweet vanilla incense with touch of dusty floral at first. It's quite light but gets deeper and stronger (and more Snake Oily) as it dries, plus the floral disappears. Other than that it doesn't change at all on my skin, it just stays absolutely wonderful from start to finish. It has better than average last and a bit of soft throw. This is the first LE (Idmittedly I haven't tried a whole lot thus far) that I need to get another bottle of before it disappears. As good as it is now, I feel that when aged it will even better. And if this resembles Snake Charmer I really do need to get my hands on it somehow.

    Tintagel

This is nearly all cinnamon on me, but a soft warm (as opposed to hot) cinnamon mingling with all the other notes. And it mingles very well indeed as I can barely pick out any of the other notes. A hint of leather and the tiniest touch of green (good, I don't like green). I can't even pick out the dragon's blood unless I go searching for it which is unusal for my skin. Like all the other cinnamon Wanderlust scents I've tried so far (which is most if not all) it doesn't have great last on me, although it does last a little longer which I assume is the influence of the dragon's blood. It has a little throw and is very lovely indeed.

    Madrid

This barely changed on me from start to finish. Mulled red wine: sweet, warm and spicy. It has a bit of soft throw and average last. It's lovely and the imp is a keeper.

    Athens

Myrrh, honey and red wine are usually winners on me, but this was not. It was just waaaaaaaay too sweet for me. At first it's very sweet wine and flowers, then dries to honeyed wine. It's quite nice but ... yeah, too sweet. After several hours or so the wine and flowers fade and the honey is left (I never got the myrrh), reminding me quite a bit of Osun which I like a lot. It has good throw and lasts an insanely long time on me, even through washing and putting another oil over the top. When the second faded Athens was still there!!

    Shub-Niggurath

Possibly the most eagerly anticipted imp from my last order. And I was not disappointed. The ginger reminded me of Saw-Scaled Viper (which I love) at first, but softer, smoother and far less harsh. As it dries the herbs and lemon appear. The herbs remain in the background but the lemon gradually becomes stronger. Luckily lemon is the only citrus note tht has never turned on me and it never completely overtakes the scent either. It blends with the other notes perfectly, producing a lovely sweet creamy lemon and ginger with a touch of herbs. It has a bit of throw and average last, and is more than likely a future bottle.

    Brown Jenkin

When I ordered this I must have skipped over the word "coconut". Or maybe I ignored it because the rest sounded perfect. In any case I got a shock when I first smelt it and all I could smell was coconut, which although I don't hate it it's a note I'm not overly fond of either. However my fears were quickly soothed. On me this is not suntan lotion or overly foodie coconut, rather it's a far darker one. When dry it's a warm, slightly dusty musky dark coconut and sandalwood scent with just a tiny hint of incense. In fact the sandalwood ends up the most dominant note, along with the coconut. "Furry" is a very apt description, although "sharp-toothed" is not, at least not on my skin. It's warm and cozy, has good throw and decent last. I like this a lot, although as yet I haven't worn it during the day. For some reason I've been reaching for it at bedtime and it is a lovely sleepytime scent. Possible bottle.

    White Rabbit

The surprise hit of my last order, considering it was a last minute addition. Soft, sweet and smooth vanilla and honey tea with just a little ginger. I don't get the linen which for me is a good thing. Actually it reminds me a bit of Dorian, just with honey and spice instead of lemon. It has quite good throw and has average last, and I think it would be a perfect spring scent. There's something about it that suggests sunshine and the slightest of cool breezes to me. Possible bottle.

    Serpent's Kiss

Vetivert is definitely the dominant note in this on me, which is rather surprising since usually dragon's blood would emerge the victor. After a while the dragon's blood and spice do emerge, but the dirtiness of the vetivert remains the most apparent note. In some ways this reminds me of the early stages of Bloodlust but minus the patchouli. I don't mind vetivert, but this is a bit too much for me. I don't mind it, but I must prefer Bloodlust.
  15. Trish

    Bloodlust

When wet this is extremely strong patchouli and vetivert. It's almost overwhelming in fact. However the dragon's blood and musk quickly emerge and the patchouli and vetivert become smoother. When completely dry it's nearly all dragon's blood, but a darker, murkier less sweet dragon's blood. It has good throw and excellent last. I really like this a lot and it's a possible bottle.

    Jack

The scent of warm, glowing jack o'lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove. I've never smelt pumpkin scented anything (besides the real thing!) as it's not exactly a common scent over here. And I've never seen let alone smelt a pumpkin pie. So I had no idea if I'd like this or not, but in the interests of experimentation I had to try it. Besides, I love nutmeg and clove. I have no idea if it's an accurate replicaton of a pumpkin pie, but it's definitely foody. Warm and buttery with a touch of spice and fruit. I'm not a foody person but this is rather nice as it's not over the top foody. I just wish the clove was more prominant for me. I'm keeping the imp for cold winter days and nights as it's very snuggly and comforting indeed.

    Eclipse

I'm not crazy about almond (or rather it's too crazy about me) but I do love cinnamon, vanilla and frankincense so I decided to try this out. I'm glad I did. It's very almond at first with a touch of cinnamon, but as it dries the almond becomes more subdued (and that is a first on me!!). It's a sweet, creamy almond and spice and lovely indeed. It has a bit of throw and average last on me and the imp is definitely a keeper.

    Anne Bonny

At first this is all sandalwood and patchouli on me, which is a wonderful combination. Then gradually the frankincense emerges which makes it even better. Warm, heady, spightly incensey woods that are a bit dirty and with a hint of spice. My kind of scent! And then that aquatic salty note appears too. Very appropriate, but not something I'm crazy about. However I still like this, but it's no longer a bottle scent. The imp's a keeper though.

    Dragon's Bone

This is stunningly beautiful for the first hour or so. It's dry and dusty, soft, and complex. Dragon's blood and sandalwood are the most dominant notes on me (unsurprisingly), but the orris and blondewood just add that extra something, particularly complexity. However after an hour or so those notes have gone leaving sandalwood with a hint of dragon's blood underneath. These are my two favourite notes so that's a good thing, but it also means it's quite close to Dragon's Claw on me, just a bit softer and dryer. I will get a bottle in the future, but probably not until my bottle of Dragon's Claw runs out.
  20. I love Blood Countess too. I've tried a number of plum scents but it's my favourite of all. I would also suggest Bathsheba which I find a tad "brighter" and not quite as floral as BC, and also second Frumious Bandersnatch. Kitsune-tsuki is also in the same family on me (my skin adores plum and tends to amp it a bit), but is a bit softer and more floral than the others. Oya is another softly spicy plum one. And yes, Bordello is devine.

    Two Monsters

This is my very first Salon scent! I'm becoming braver about ordering bottles unsniffed now. Bottle: slightly sweet, warm incense. Heady, intoxicating. Wet: Mmm, the notes in this are so entwined! The only one I can definitely pick out is the ginger and it's quite muted. Drydown: It's becoming softer and warmer, and the ginger has gone. I can pick up the ambergris the most now followed by the leather, but the latter is perhaps the most subtle I've tried. I can also just pick out the vetivert and oakmoss at the edges if I really concentrate, which give it a slightly darker edge. It's got a little bit of throw and is very intoxicating. Quite perfumey in that wonderful ambergis way, a note I'm discovering of late that I really like. There's a little bit of musky smokiness to it too. Dry: It's changed very little at all, remaining this wonderful blend of all the notes. And it really is incredibly well blended, I have to concentrate to pick out the few notes that I can. One Hour: The leather has become a bit stronger, but it's still pretty soft and muted. The musk is also a little more apparent, but otherwise it hasn't changed a great deal at all. It's a wonderful warm, soft, intoxicating, musky, heady scent that is likely to become a firm favourite. I'd consider it gender neutral, leaning towards the masculine. 1 1/2 hours: The leather has decided to rejoin the other scents so that it's more like it was when first dry. It's also already fading quickly and I fear this isn't going to be a particularly long lasting scent on me. 3 hours: Alas, it has nearly completely gone. Needless to say I really like this a whole lot!

This was a frimp from the lab, and I rather think it will be too floral for me. However I do like jasmine, and spices and musk are both yet to fail me. In the imp: Jasmine. And other stuff, but jasmine most of all. Wet: The jasmine isn't nearly as strong on my skin, although it's still most definitely there. I can't pick anything else out but it's definitely a floral. Drydown: The iris has come out in a big way, even almost overpowering the jasmine. Luckily iris is a floral I don't mind. It's quite a cool floral, and there's no spices or musk at all so far. It's reminding me strongly of something but I don't know what. Dry: I'm getting a vague sense of spice now, but really it's all iris and jasmine with a few other florals floating around underneath. It's pretty enough, but this just isn't my thing - it's too cool for me. Swap.

    Machu Picchu

I got this as a frimp from the lab and it's definitely not something I would have ordered. Steamy blossoms, wet rainforest and breezes are not things that attract me in the least. Not to mention that problem I usually have with amber... However the day after I got it I saw a thing on Machu Picchu on TV so I rather want to like it. And I do like fruits. In the imp: Sweet, fruity, juicy with florals underneath. Wet: It softens a bit immediately, and then there's something green and wet. Not sharp green but very juicy. Like aloe or something. Drydown: Florals are exploding, big fat wet florals. But the fruitiness is keeping them in check thankfully. It's quite warm, and steamy is definitely an apt description. Dry: Is that passionfruit? There's a sweet fruity note in this that I am really enjoying a lot, and is combining with the florals nicely. It's got a bit of throw too, not strong but enough for me to catch wafts of it. It's not as wet now either, like the sun is burning off the morning dew. So far there's no powder, although I can sense the amber's golden resin. 40 minutes: Powder, albeit powder with a fruity and floral edge to it. I liked this far more than I thought I would, but alas the amber got me again. Off to the swap box.

    Vicomte de Valmont

In the Imp: Men's cologne. It reminds me very strongly of something my partner has worn in the past, but in a good way. It's fresh and manly. Wet: Much the same, maybe a little softer. Drydown: Lavender isn't listed but I'm sure I can smell it. I hate lavender. However in this it's very subtle and soft. It's still very much men's cologne but better. Floral with some green, a citrus kick, and some musky woods in the background. Dry: It's softened a fair bit and is not nearly as cologne-like now, and although it's still masculine I can definitely wear it. I'm finding it very hard to pick out individual notes in this. Sandalwood and ambergris overlayed with musky florals is about the best I can do, with the ambergris starting to dominate. It's not a note I'm overly familiar with, just enough to pick it out, but I probably should investigate it some more as it seems to like me. There's a bit of an airy/aquatic feel to it too. It has a little bit of soft throw and has average to good last (note that good last for me = 5 hours). I rather like this. Maybe not enough to wear often as it's a bit too airy/aquatic for me, but I'll be giving the imp to my partner as I have a hunch this is going to be fantastic on him.

    Loviatar

I got this as a frimp in a swap which I was much appreciative of since it was one I was curious about but had never been game enough to buy. One because although I've discovered I like a bit of leather I felt this might be too much, and secondly because well, amber. It tends to go to powder on me. However it doesn't in Sin or Fenris Wolf which are both darker deeper scents as well so hopefully it will behave on me in this one too. In the imp: leather, musk, something sweet Wet: leather and red musk. Oh my... Drydown: The leather quickly starts to dominate as it does tend to do on me, for a while at least. I don't mind. 5 mins later: Mmmm... sweet leather. I can't smell the musk at all now and although I love red musk I don't actually care right now. Amber, please don't turn this to powder! This would be downright dirty sexy on the right guy. Dry: Red musk. Oh sweet Lord. I do love red musk and here it's mingling with the leather perfectly. There's still quite a sweet note, plus a bit of resin. Guess that's the amber which so far is behaving itself. The myrrh has yet to appear but it can take quite a while to come out on my skin. It's got quite a bit of throw this has! 1 hour: Pretty much the same, although the leather is softer and more muted, and the musk is drifting in and out along with just the tiniest bit of myrrh. The amber is threatening to turn powdery but hasn't as yet. 2 hours: Soft, muted sweet leather with a little muskiness and almost but not quite powder. Still has quite a bit of throw surprisingly, seeing it's softened so much on my skin. Needless to say this is a keeper. I don't know if it will be a bottle as I'm not sure how often I'd actually wear it, but it's definitely a possibility.
