Mechanical Death

This is outstanding!!!! It's deceptively light and herbal in the vial, but on the skin it blooms into an incredibly complex scent, the creamy vanilla tonka as the base. I catch hints of the herbal sage that balance out the sweetpea, and something else warm and delicious underneath. Almost buttery and cotton like, a tiny bit musky and heady, It's gorgeous. I hadn't expected it to be so profound and complex. I need 10000 bottles of this. I will wear this constantly. 5/5!!

I want so badly for this to be awesome. It smells like spicy syrupy dark cherry in the bottle, very aromatic in a perfumy way, not like cherry syrup-- But on my skin-- licorice?! D: that must be the clove. But I love clove. That doesn't make sense T-T It starts to dry further, and the weird licorice smell fades, but it just fades into this strange blah. It smells like the dry down of snake oil with a hint of cherry. I don't get any smoky sweet clove or spicy resin or musk. just slightly cherry snake oil. Meh. Not sure if ill keep it. I think I'd rather keep looking for my perfect couple of GC scents rather than collecting a bunch ill only wear a few times.

Super sweet and sugary floral in the bottle. Wet on skin the florals bloom, the aroma of cut stems and nectar filling the air. Unlike most predominantly white floral bouquets its not overwhelming. I smell the cactus flower, which has a scent almost like watermelon and Lillies, and the aquatic cactus. I smell the chocolate faintly in the mix, just a hint of rich coco powder. I don't get insence at all, but perhaps it's there acting as a blending agent. I do however smell the dry leaves as the scent dries down further-- the distinct dry slightly sweet and almost woody scent of late fall air, when the trees turn orange and the leaves begin to fall. This is another gorgeous blend. It doesn't strike me outright as a fall scent but some of the elements are there. It could be worn pretty much all year round during the right occasion. I find it very relaxing to wear. Every time I sniff it in the air around me I take a deep slow breath to savor the scent.

this is a strange blend, but I like it. The strange mixture of florals are bright, a bit sharp and herbal, but carry a beautiful deadly perfume. It's a unique mix, and I can live with it's oddness, which I feel enhance the blend. The white chocolate adds sweetness, creaminess, and warmth, and keep the florals from being too sharp, and the honey adds richness. I don't smell it outright, but I can smell it in the background layered in when I sniff. It's the last thing I smell after the other notes dissipate. I was worried when I put it on my skin at first-- it was just sharp herbal florals, but it was controlled, so I held out hope for it. I'm happy I found this lovely bottle of 13.

in the bottle all I smell is wine-- like a deep merlot. Impressed! On my skin I get more cake and icing mixed with the wine. as it dries the wine quickly fades. Later, I *think* I smell a hint of Dorian, but it fades too dry-- all I get is a faint smell of white cake. I want to love this so badly. I love every single note in the description-- this should have been an absolute win. I hunted this down desperately. sigh I'll have to test it again on, and slather it on. Otherwise, off to sales/swaps with this one.

FINALLY got around to buying a bottle of this fabulous stuff. I have like every bottle of a SO blend, but not SO it's self. It has this smooth quality that is sultry and sexy without trying too hard. It's not in your face, or throwing it's self across the room. It just lingers gently and hugs. If I sniff my wrist very closely it smells just a tiny bit plastic like, but that's not what it actually smells like on. I have to sniff pretty deep to find that chapstic plastic smell. Rich vanilla spiced with beautiful spices and smooth oils wrap and lay about you, smoldering slightly, as if to say beckoning with just one crooked finger.

I got a bottle of this aged off of eBay, from its first run. OMFG SO GOOD I need to snag a bottle from this year like now. In the bottle it smells like oak and wine. It reminds me of the wine harvest festival at our rennfaire. It blooms further on my skin, the red crisp apples, falling heavy off of the woody apple trees, being turned into batches of fresh cider. The scent of fit needles waft about tying it all together-- the scent of fallen leaves, the harvest, fresh apple cider and wine. Fall in a bottle. I love this!

Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon. In the bottle it smells like straight absinthe, swirling minty yummy wormwood liqueur. It stays fairly the same on my skin. It smells, like I smiled some on me while I was drinking it. Perfect. It dries a bit lighter and lemony, not overwhelmingly strong. Love it.

Sleepy moon. You are my lavender chamomile love. Opium is usually too sweet but the herbal qualities of the lavender tone it down. I definitely catch a whiff of the bamboo-- very green and stemmy, not herbal, but similar to the freshly cut stems on flowers, a little eucalyptus like. Also the sandalwood is there in the background, a hazy light lemony incense note. Sleepy moon is relaxing and is making me, we'll, sleepy *yawn* I put a little spot under my nose and its like insta-sleeping aid. U_U g'night! I wish I had more than half a bottle. I have to track down more of this miracle.

I believe I reviewed this briefly before, but not on me. This one belongs to my fiancé. I woke up feeling pretty tired and somewhat ill. My stomach hadn't been feeling 100% and I got little sleep. I could feel a migraine brewing too. I wanted something light, perhaps aquatic with a greentea tone. No such luck with my collection, but then I spotted this. Almost fit the bill, though in different ways. The aquatic aloe with the lemony sandalwood created the perfect soothing background. It's very clean smelling on me as well. Not overly soapy but just fresh. The paper scent is outstanding and comes out in the dry down. It's not quite as heavy as lurid library, but is there. Like fresh hand made paper. I definitely catch vanilla, but it's light and sweet. I really enjoy the vanilla flower in this. It's still flowery-- it has a whiff of white floral, but not overpowering. A nice blend. Very neutral. Not sweet, but not musky and rugged. Clean and bright. My new favorite sick days scent.

I was looking forward to this one. Not sure what I think of it yet. Somewhat undecided. In the imp-- super sweet. The opium is overpowering almost everything else and is bringing out the sweet notes of the dragons blood, killing off the spicy notes it usually carries. Dragons blood to me usually smells very strong of mulling spices-- heavy on spiced orange while still sweet and incensy. Wet on skin-- the sweetness amps further. It smells like a cousin to blood lotus, which I liked a lot, but this is cloying where as I didn't find blood lotus to be. As it dries it becomes a little dustier, but that cloying sweetness still hangs around. I get some poppy, surprisingly not much yanglang. I find yanglang to be a beautiful floral but it's lost in this blend. hours later it dries down to a sickly sweet softer blend with a hint of of incense smoke but I still don't get that spicy resinous dragon's blood I would expect. When I sniff my wrist it's incredibly sharp and headache inducing. Eugh. I feel sick wearing it.

Mmmm berries. In the vial it smells like a mixture of ripe juicy sugared berries. It also has a slightly clean smell to it-- that must the the herbal quality the plant has. It reminds me a bit or berry scented body wash or laundry detergent, which is in no way a bad thing. It's refreshing and clean and happy. On my skin it turns completely into berry soap-- for a second I thought there was some other flower in here like fresia or gardenia making it extra soapy. soap soap soap. It smells almost exactly like Dove's pomegranate bar soap on my skin. Not unpleasant, but not what I want to smell like in a perfume. But, I loved it in the vial; a truly lovely berry scent. Not candy sweet, not too tart, relaxing and clean. So I decided to try it in my oil burner. Oh, Heaven. Our bedroom smells so wonderful!! I may need to buy a bottle of this simple so I can have some for the oil burner. It's the perfect scent for our room

in the bottle-- vanilla-- way strong vanilla. All competing with eachother in a negative way. Horribly sharp and bitter like extract. It practically burned my nose. Though despite my initial reaction I decided to try anyway-- The vanilla on my skin stays strong and turns rancid with so many different competing types. I was hoping for a sugary bakery vanilla type from the 'fluffy' description with the pretty florals and sparkling grapefruit-- but nope. sigh. another one off to swaps/sales.

I don't remember if I had reviewed this one before, but if I had, it's not working for me now. I love every single note in this blend. It should be the perfect fruity citrus tropical blend. It is absolutely gorgeous in the bottle. A well rounded scent and everything I expect it to be. On my skin it turns into lemon meurange quickly, which I'm fine with-- if it had dried down to that I'd be okay with that. It may not be a go to, but I'd wear it when I'm feeling lemony. The coconut showed up, which was a welcomed addition, and then things turned bad. Somewhere along the way, things turned into burning lemons, apricot, and BO-- yeuch!. There *is* a hint of something pleasant underneath, but the stink of armpit hovering on my wrist is making me lose all hope that it will turn into something pleasant eventually, and doesn't make me want to endure to find out. >.<

(2007 bottle) I loved you Perilous parlor, but you didn't love me! I died when I smelled it in the bottle. YES! delicious. The perfect pear-- juicy ripe, slightly spicy, perhaps warm and cooked with some brown sugar and butter or pear cobbler. Mmmm! The vanilla is strong too, blending deliciously and mouthwatering in the bottle. On the skin, at first-- oh my yum! I'm loving it. But soon, on the dry down-- oh god. Plastic-- no, chapstic. The pear vanishes and leaves me with vanilla chapstick. D: Same thing on the second try-- maybe just spicy vanilla chapstick. I could honesty scream and cry. *edited to fix the year

Mmmm sugary buttery and warm with a hint of cotton. perfect and simple! It is pretty true to what it smells like in the bottle, perhaps a bit less IN HOUR FACE sugar. I don't the dryer sheets that people describe, just cuddly, warm, and yummy. Glad I got a bottle of this. It'll be good for layering over things that need a bit of a sweet kick too. Mmm

I swear I have smelled something almost exactly like this before. I can not for the life of me place my finger on it. Imp-- Procured as a lovely surprise addition from one of my ebay purchases *cuddles imp* I have been lusting after most of the steamworks series, so I was very excited to try this out. in vial-- lemmon tea and honey, and something else. Very citrus, somewhat sweet, another review said smooth-- I would have to agree. It's hard to pick out any one thing. It's very smooth. I smell some light vanilla, but usually when I smell vanilla in the imp/bottle it's amber. wet on my skin-- woah, that smells like Dorian! Holy shit! *sniff sniff* no for real, like exactly, or at least Dorian's very close cousin. As it dries, the Dorian similarity fades a bit, and just lingers underneath. It's the Verbena I have decided. There is definitely verbena in Dorian in the tea note, or very possibly the fougere but there is verbena *somewhere* in that scent and we all know it . Still, The two have an uncanny similarity and it goes past the verbena. Take Dorian, add wood-- Voila! Aelopile. Not that I'm complaining. I love these types of scents. The woods come out more as it dries, which are lovely. They are medium woody scents-- not too dark, not heavy. They add just enough of that character but you don't feel like you're in a workshop or in a forest of musty damp trees. I don't get anything metalic about the scent, which I'm glad for. The citrus is tart enough. The amber is there just under the surface acting as a blender for the lemon and wood, and keeps the whole thing balanced and creamy. It's not dusty at all. I do detect the labdanum which gives the scent a bit of a resinous and sweet quality. Oddly enough, as it dries further the woods fade and the citruses become more dominant again and the Dorian comparison becomes much more apt. I'm glad I got to try this, but if the drydown for my chemistry ends up staying at the Dorian's Copy Cat, then I don't need a bottle.

in the bottle: Dark, woody, slightly smoky and dusty-- lots of vetiver, oudh and a touch of black current. A delicious smoky dark blend accented by coconut and hint of sweetness from the peach. Wet on skin: Almost identical as in the bottle-- the dark characteristics are overpowering in wet form and can't amplify any more. If you are a fan of smoky and dark scents, you'll like this one. I'm enjoying it so far. The vetiver lends a mossy feel to the blend. It reminds me a little of the stone and moss note from the drydown phase in '13 hours' from the Labyrinth series. While they have nothing in common, I get a similar feel from the woody earthy notes that stay close to the skin, while the juicier or fresher notes hover. If I outright sniff my hand I lose the peach and black current, but while I'm typing I can smell it hovering around me. It smells almost tropical from here, but up close it's much darker and sexier where the coconut and vanilla mingles with the woody earth notes. I'll be interested to see what the final dry down does. Drying: Very dark vanilla, toasted coconut and smoky dark woods. The peach mingles in with the mix a tiny bit more and finally the orchid shows up. I can't find the black current anymore though, which is odd. Black current is usually such a dominant note. Oh-- wait-- there it is. It's still there hovering above the skin but not directly included in the mixture. I still don't smell the Myrrh outright, but it I concentrate I do detect it. Each note is accounted for here. This is a really unique blend. I haven't tried anything else from BPAL or else where that remotely mimics this. Slightly tropical, very dark and smoky, very sexy. Deadly? yes. This is definitely meant to be a subtle perfume. Not meant for slathering, but well placed application so that it hovers and clings in all the right places, like a slinky dress. I need a skin tight glittering slinky black tie cocktail dress to go with this, some blood red lipstick, and heads will turn. You feel deadly elegant wearing this.

Now that's gorgeous. In the bottle-- rose hips and ivy. Rose hips have a distinctive sugary creamy rose smell and I don't find that they ever go soapy. Absolutely heavenly mixed with the sweet green ivy and the undertone of damp moss. It's funny, I never realized ivy had much of a smell, but I can pull it out quite easily, and instantly get memories of rummaging through the ivy covered walls in my backyard as a kid looking for tyedyed eggs on Easter. stone+moss +ivy. This scent has it perfectly. It makes me incredibly happy. Wet on my wrist, creamy rose hips, mmmm it smells like my favorite rose tea with plenty of cream and a hint of honey. As it dries the greenness of the ivy shows up more and the wet moss amps and blends. To this point I hadn't actually gotten much stone but there is this dark dirty dusty talcum like note that must be the stone. It smells exactly like dirt and glittering stone. Pretty incredible. It continues to morph and the rosy sweetness dissipates into the background, leaving mossy damp stone with a hint of sweet rose hips. I can still smell the creamy sweet rose in the air around me though, but when I press my nose to my wrist, it's dusty stone. O.O crazy. I love this. Really a beautiful and haunting blend. It does evoke images of being lost in that incredible labyrinth for hours. Instant favorite.

This is GORGEOUS! In the bottle it's gorgeous fruit and vanilla and a touch of slice and smokiness from the tobacco-- moth watering. I'm a huge sucker for orange scents, and this is particularly juiced and delicious. The vanilla with the mandarin is like extra orange neroli--yum!! It's tart and has this sense of umami... It's an incredibly balanced blend. Sweet, creamy, smoky, woody, hazy, boozy-- yum! Dry the honey really comes out and amps up everything, however the honey smell is right there strong on the skin while everything else throws its self around you. If you like honey, you'll like honey scents. For a few minutes I was afraid the honey was going to overtake everything bug it backed off. Be warned if you don't like honey notes this is not for you. Lovely, sweet sticky, orange tart yum!

SAGE sage sage sage This is very crisp and clean. It's beautiful. It reminds me of fresh tree sap almost and climbing fir trees. This is definitely a unisex scent. It's feminine from the incense and gold and bronze notes-- I get verbena and some rich amber or maybe benzoin. Those are usually common bases for scents such as these. There may even be some neroli in here because I swear I smell creamscicles under the piney metallic sage. I'm loving this-- so glad I bought some. I was a bit afraid of it for the lack of actual note descriptions and the sage, but it's really fantastic.

in the bottle: for something so flower heavy, I was expecting something much more heady. This is incredibly tart, like under ripe berries. on the skin: I want to like it... I used only a tiny dab to test it and make sure it wouldn't sour on my skin, so perhaps I need to try wearing it for a day. It's slightly soapy, but not that overwhelming icky rotten floral icky soap-- it's incredibly clean. Still tart, warming slightly. I get the smoke note first, and pimento as the florals and plum blend in geltly. I want more beez wax-- It would take the tart edge away and brighten the blend. As it dries and warms on the skin the plum becomes more apparent. The beezwax accents the dark ripe note of the plum. There is a distinct winey grapeyness that I get as it dries even further, probably from the heliotrope. The soapy edge due to the white florals (yangylang and tuberose) have taken a back seat, but their fragrance is still lingering. It's quite beautiful, but I wouldn't garner it for evil witch. It would need a darker musk and incense note for that I believe. The incense is an after thought-- which since it's incense smoke this makes sense I actually really like this now that it has settled down on my skin. Bottom line: It you want a deep plum and grapey scent that isn't grape popsicle-- get this. It's a has a little bit of a bitter bite, and is a little bit smokey, just enough to keep it balanced and sophisticated. It has some pretty good throw too. It's the perfect hazy purple-burgundy color. Magnificent!

Holy jeebus! I smell delicious! Like pumpkin muffins with the best vanilla icing ever *drool* Okay, serious review time. I love this, like wow. In the vial it's straight pumpkin doughnuts and vanilla icing with cinnamon and ginger powder topping. Fresh out of the oven. The vanilla is mouthwatering. On the skin the pumpkin amps and I smell the pulpiness of the gourd more. Now it smells more like I'm making pumpkin pie from scratch and am adding in all the spices to the mashed pulp--just on my skin. As it dries it becomes primarily pumpkin and bourbon vanilla, with the spices lingering effervescently. The citrus notes come forth to de-cake the scent overall and it's wonderful. the blood orange is perfectly tart and sweet on its own to add just the right balance to the rest especially paired with the creamy orangy neroli. It reminds me a bit of circus freak with the addition of spiced pumpkin. Mmm It's actually quite a sophisticated foodie pumpkin blend. I'm in love!

I got this imp and had to try it. I love floral blends but they don't always love me. It smelled wonderful in the vial. Like rich honey, peach juice and peach blossoms. On the skin it started to smell immediately like tuberose, overpowering everything and slightly rotten but thankfully not soapy. Rotten florals have a chance of recovering, soap not so much. I don't get any vetiver-- it must be very minuscule and helping to keep the blend from being overpoweringly floral and instead The tuberose backs off thankfully. It's playing gracefully with the rest and turning into a sweet flowery blend. The vetiver which I don't smell outright keeps the whole thing from turning powdery. It's very nice but almost identical antheia, just peach tinted instead of apple tinted. I may like it better. Perhaps I'll grab a bottle of this and swap out antheia.

This stuff is so good. I hope it does eventually get released. *crosses fingers* There's heavy spices-- lots of clove and vanilla, possibly some nutmeg-- though I don't get that pumpkin pie spice smell, just a lot of baking spices and exotic spices. I want this as a wearable oil, it's just so delicious. The vanilla is strong-- not bakery at all. It's dark and swirling and nearly alcoholic. Pretty much vanilla extract exactly. There is a big kick of beautiful dark amber and musk combination I find very reminiscent of Haunted. I will assume the musk is a black musk then. This is wonderful. I can't begin to describe it to it's fullest justice. It's electric, creeping, heady, and spicy. I imagine immediately the undead home town from World of Warcraft, and imagine that this is what this would smell like. Who knew that reanimated flesh and magic would smell so yummy!
