  1. ... Our blend for this Moon mixes traditional lunar oils with the warmth of amber, red musk, and heliotrope, the russet haze of dragon's blood resin, sunflower, and crushed orange peel, with a dusting of summertime herbs: chamomile, rue, elder flower and marigold.

Ok, so...when first applied this smells a bit like Dana O'Shee + oranges: sweet, custard-y citrus-y incense. Almost too rich for a few moments. When it dries it lightens up a bit - not so much oranges anymore as orange blossoms, a light musky floral sweetness, and a bit powdery as well. Very faint. Probably won't last the day. Definitely not at all what I thought it would be, but still very pretty while it lasts.

  2. Straight out of the bottle I don't smell much of anything, but on, this is luscious. I don't get the tea at all, but what I do get is lemon - not sharp or tart, but sweet and creamy, almost like lemon curd...with an undercurrent of something very sexy, I am guessing that's the musk.

    This is...sexy lemon meringue pie!

  3. On first sniff this is very sweet, very pink fluffy candy, but that changes as soon as it hits my skin. Imagine if the cotton candy machine were puffing out smoky clouds of nag champa spun sugar, laced with tiny jasmine flowers that barely tickle your nose with their scent.

This is really very beautiful, very me. I love it!

  4. Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, and exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct.

    Chaos Theory LXXIV:

Upon opening the bottle, this smells EXACTLY like Dana O'Shee, my favourite BPAL of all time...the milky creamy custard, the sugared almonds the smoky sweetness - it's all there. On the skin though, the richness fades and I start to smell coconut...sort of like how when you were younger and didn't know better you would slather yourself in santan lotion and roast yourself in the summer noonday sun? If you came back in and didn't shower, your skin would smell slightly sweet and sweaty and coconutty at the end of the day. I think there is a bit of musk in this as well, which is giving me the "light sheen of sweat on sweet skin" smell. If you sniff your wrist at this stage, it's a bit acrid and you'll find yourself crinkling your nose. Later it almost starts to smell metallic, like how pennies smell or how blood tastes. An interesting, mercurial scent, to be sure.

  5. This smells like a freshly brewed tisane made from the spicy woody bark of a tree, it's sharp, somewhat medicinal smelling green leaves, and sweetened by the nectar of some of it's delicate yellow blooms. I don't know what sort of tree this would have to be, but I can picture a little wizened crone of a woman who lives deep in the heart of the woods making a potent brew of it to serve to wayward minstrals and princesses who are running away from home.

  6. To me, this scent is more about memory than fragrance (which is sort of fitting, since I last wore it 6 months ago and have to do this review from memory).

As most have said, it is a deep blue, and aquatic scent - but not salty, ozone-y, beachy aquatic, nor is it murky, swampy aquatic. Like a cold swimming pool on a hot day (minus the chlorine! or maybe if you were adding grapefruit to your pool instead of chlorine) with every blue flower imaginable floating on top of it.

Imagine being 6 years old and holding your breath and submerging yourself in a swimming pool, then slo-o-o-wly sinking to the bottom. The water is cool and you feel like the only person in the world and everything is just totally silent.

Did anyone else do this as a kid? That was my favourite part of summer. Imagine looking up and seeing the sun streaming down into the water, between all of the blue petals. It's calm and soothing and serene.

To sum up, this is a lovely, cool and serene scent, absolutely a must for hot, sticky weather and for people who haven't got a swimming pool!

  7. All chocolate always smells the same on me...which is alright I suppose since I would rather eat it than wear it :P In this particular blend, the white chocolate smells like regular old chocolate, but not in a pure-unadulterated-chocolate-slab sort of way, but in a flour-y baked goods sort of way. Something with a dry crumb. A chocolate scone perhaps.

Upon initial application I smell the baked goods plus a vague orangey-citrus smell but it's got a little bit of a waxy undertone. Maybe if you iced that chocolate scone with a thin drizzle of icing made from melted orange-scented crayons. Yum!

As it dries down the chocolate sort of fades into a sweet-ish floral with a tangy zing, I guess that is where the iris and currant come into play. Sort of a "generic" (<--I hate using that word for BPAL) sort of scent, but not unpleasant or anything. Maybe if Strawberry Shortcake had a chocolate-covered-orange friend, she would smell something like this. So basically what you are left with is a sweet floral with a sort of citrus/waxy/plastic-y undertone, but when you've got a blend with something like "white chocolate" in it, that it probably unavoidable.

  8. If one were to step into the pages of Greek Mythology and were to perchance stumble into a mossy morning glade where a goddess was bathing while attended by her wood nymphs, this would be the scent that surrounded you as you peeped surreptitiously through the moist marshy reeds.

Dry on the skin it reminds me a bit of Incantation, in the sense that it is dry, and a bit masculine. Sort of if you had just stepped out of the shower after having bathed with a soap made of cedarwood and lemon (although I do not think there is any lemon in this.) This is a lovely blend and I really don't think I have to smell it on a man to enjoy it, I am quite enough on my own to wear it myself!

  9. When I was a little girl, Heidi was my favourite book in the entire world.

I re-read that book constantly till the pages were worn by my grubby fingers and eventually the cover - then the entire first half of the book - fell off!

There are a few scenes that were so lovely, they've always stayed with me, in particular when Heidi would help tend the goats, with Peter the goatherder.

They'd travel way way up the mountainside and Heidi would lay out in the summer sun-warmed field amidst the adundant alpine wildflowers - bluebells and violets and forget-me-nots and breathe in their crisp, sweet scent.

She attempted to pick a few and take them home to her grandfather's cabin with her because she wanted to smell them all night long...she was so sad when she arrived home to find them all withered and faded.

Flower Moon is exactly the scent that Heidi was trying to take home with her.

I don't think this would make her sad at all :P

  10. I wish I could somehow poetically compare this to the description...but.

    I can't.

So with that having been said, I will say that I love this blend.

It is the overall scent of all of my favourite occult supplyshops/bookstores rolled into one. It smells like shelves of herbs and oils and magickal stones and the crisp pages of unopened books filled with unlearned knowledge. It really does smell like all that!

I think it is the sage that gives it it's dry herby-ness and then the tonka and the sweet pea sweeten it up a bit (which makes it smell a little incense-y to me, because herby+sweet=incense in my nose).

I could almost swear that I smell fir or pine or something, because there is a crisp tickly feel I get from it at times...and I am not so sure that I smell the musk at all. Or maybe I do, I get a "feel" of musk, rather than a "smell", if that makes sense...perhaps that is what gives the blend it's depth?

This is an incredible scent...I mean, who wouldn't want to smell like the proprietor of an occult bookstore????

  11. When first applied I smell honeyed almonds and smoky cherries in a richly decadent sweet creamy base sort of...a yummy, lickable incense sort of smell.

It dries down to a sweet, resiny powderish scent, but still every bit as delicious. Yum!

  12. This is one of the only scents that my guy likes on me...he says it makes me smell like a naughty school girl , hee hee!

It's a sweet honey scent toned down with milky almonds...smells like a syrupy, creamy oatmeal custard sprinkled with sugared almonds..or a rich, creamy vanilla-marzipan confection dusted with powdered sugar.

It is one of the yummiest scents I've ever sniffed and even if that damn fool man o'mine didn't like it, you can bet your boot I'd be plenty stocked up with it anyway!

    ADDED April 8, 2005:

This is my favouritest stuff in the world! EVER!

Smells a little almond-y in the vial, plus a pinch of sweet and a dash of milky..

but on, it is utterly divine! To me, it smells like most everything everyone has mentioned, sweet and custardy, sugared marizpan, but imagine all of that while you are burning incense! Or more acurately, a stick of sugared milk custard incense! Sweet ,with on me, at least, an underlying smokiness which makes it incredibly understatedly drop dead sexy.

    Amazing.

Ok, well I am a great listener and the most devoted/loyal person you could hope to meet too. I also make a mean pumpkin cheesecake, but I don't think that counts.

How you found out about BPAL :

Any comments you'd like to add about the Lab or life in general : Until I tried the gorgeously delicious fragrance oils from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, all I knew were the mass produced synthetic perfumey crap, that everyone else wears. Now I feel beautifully and uniquely scented everytime I dab these divine oils behind my ears or on my wrists, and that is a lovely feeling to carry around with me all day.

I love supporting a business like Black Phoenix ALchemy Lab with my patronage, small businesses and their inventive, hard-working owners are VERY important to me, and to be able to support them is one of the most important things in the world to me. Anyone who has found a dream and persued it with a passion, like Elizabeth & Co. (and do so well), deserve our unflagging and staunch support!

  14. Unfortunatley all the papow address are hosed until further notice.

Ok, well in that case I have a question...

I have always paid through PayPal, and I believe the address I used was a "papow" address...

Does this mean I can no longer use PayPal?

Or is there a different email address to pay though?

    Thanks!

  15. I am starting a new job today, ( I am hoping it will be the dream office job where I can sit at a desk and play solitaire/surf the web all day), but I am having a hard time choosing a scent that comes across as understated, classy, elegant, and at the same time, light and crisp and un-offensive to someone's delicate sensbilities (there's someone like that in every office, I have found)

I need a scent that says "I know you only hired me for part-time secretarial work, but within minutes you will find that I am completely indispensible and you do not know how you ever got on without me"

    Any suggestions friends?

  16. What are all you people talking about??

    Warm, yes.

    Sensual, yes.

Sexy as ALL HELL? GOOD GOD YES!!!

But leather? I just don't smell it for some reason.

I know I keep doing this (that was me as "guest" who commented that Venom smelled like Christian Dior's Poison, I couldn't get the hang of posting...I am such a dunder-head)...

but like I was saying, I know I keep doing this, but this is the second scent i have smelled that reminds me of a classy, expensive perfume...this time around I want to say that Loviator smells

like Bijan, I think it was called.

Make no mistake though, this fragrance has alot more depth, and is certainly darker...but I am thinking that they must have alot of the same notes in common? could be, right?

    I'm not crazy, right?

    But still, no leather :P
