    Fairy Market

I hate to be the first to write a negative review, but Fairy Market is the biggest dissapointment I've had in a while. At least I did not get a bottle right away! In the decant, I can smell grass and fruit, but they are the notes that are under something else that smells something like dandelion sap mixed with turnips. But I tried it anyway, because you never know how things will blossom on your skin. Sadly for me, this stays the same, except that the fruit goes away completely, and the grassy-turnip scent stays, occassionally leavened by a hint of incense underneath it. Grassy-turnip doesn't sound that bad, I know, but I had to wash it off. I'm very sad this doesn't work, especially because I thought this was a sure thing. I can imagine how lovely it is for others, but it will never be that way for me. Off to swaps, for sure.

What to wear to a rock show?

Usually I'd say Perversion, but you said Coney Island, and bright and long lasting, so 1st choice goes to Midway. And my back-ups would be Dirty-sunshine in a bottle, or 51, with it's nice soft musk. What did you choose?

    Sunrise With Sea-Monsters

Just got this in a swap (thanks clover!). I love Turner, and was excited to see a scent after one of his paintings, but wasn't quite confident enough about the notes to buy the bottle straight off. I should have....I love this! It has the touch of pear in the beginning, and teeters on the edge of soapy for a moment or two, before it becomes this lovely, salty, slightly sweet aquatic. A great scent for summer. It's beautiful, it lasts, and I want a bottle, now!

    Schlafende Baigneuse

I'm unsure about this one. I love the opening-it is beautiful, with yellow rose that is so sweet and something else that is almost apple-y. If it stayed like that, it would be one of my favorites, hands down. But it turns, the sweet appley-rose goes away and the musk takes over. It also smells faintly incensy on me but I have a feeling that is the spicy chrysanthemum combining with the skin musk. It is soft, but pretty, and it lasts for a while. I think many would love it-if you like the musk in bastet, or baghdad. That is what musk it reminds me of-softer, gentler, smoother-but similar. I don't know if I'll keep it and just know that I'll be slathering it often to get the lovely beginning, or swapping it away to a better home.

    Blue Moon 2007

I want to love Blue Moon, and I can't! I got my order today, and put it on immediately. I was hoping for the lovely cucumber tea aquatic that lots are getting. Initially I get a scent almost like dragons blood (i.e. heavy nose-prickling floral), which softens, but always retains that noseprickling, strongly spicy, sharp floral scent. No wisp of tea, cucumber, aloe, iris, water, juniper or the like. Someone below mentioned jasmine, and I agree-I get a similar feel, even though I know it isn't listed. I think it is the moonflower that does it for me. In any case, it makes me sad, and while I'm glad I tried it, but it isn't going to have a home with me.

    51

A little sharp at first, this settles into a soft, slightly powdery floral with a hint of citrus and woods wafting up. The musk is lovely, and slightly resembes the tea note, I think. I've reached for my imp several times, and will probably have to get a bottle.

    Pink Moon 2007

I must be the exception on this scent. For me, this is much more spicy than sweet. In fact, the carnation amped to such a point that it really did smell quite sharply clovey, instead of the more softely muted spicy I'm used to with carnation. Almost headache inducing. Sadly, not sweet and not soft, and not really pink on me either. I'll be swapping my decant, and sticking to Alice for my carnations.

    Queen Alice

This is a morpher! In the vial and on, I can't detect the carnation. Instead, I get the caramel and the wine, and the two go back and forth trying to decide which will win. Neither actually does (thankfully!), and instead the amber and posies come out for a while. Eventually, after about 1 hour, it settles into a lovely, creamy, sexy scent, with a hint of carnation in the background. A touch of amber is there too, lending a subtle warmnth. I am not getting distinct notes, but I can say that it is somewhat similar in feel to BCBG Sexy. I actually really like it, and might get a bottle. I don't like the beginning, but this stage now is so pretty, it could be worth it. I've been looking for a discreetly sexy scent-this might be it. Also, for my money, it is not very similar to Alice (which I love, but which is totally different on me than this is).

    The Dodo

Wet, I get cassia (which I like), with a hint of the red musk in the back, and perhaps some agarwood. As it dries, the cassia develops for a bit, the musk recedes, and a slightly soapy scent emerges. Not Ivory soap, but the smell of posh soaps. Still, it is soap. The cassia does fade, and the red musk emerges. I love red musk, and this becomes almost a single note on me, except for the lingering soap in the background. Not a keeper, alas.

    Vasakasajja

Very sweet and fruity. I can see the tropical references. I don't get much vanilla, myself (wish I did!), but it is a very lovely scent. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not, though. It might actually be too sweet for me, and without the vanilla, it might be too much fruit, too. Will have to ponder.

    Abhisarika

Initially a light, slightly green rose with a creamy edge. this softens almost immediately into a sweet, soft rose (no green). Like a dish of cream with rose petals floating in it. If it were a color, it would be pastel pink. And then it is gone in a flash on me. It lasted 30 minutes, maybe, and then I couldn't distinguish it at all. I was happy I had the change to try it, but won't be getting a bottle.

    Wulric, the Wolfman (2006)

This is one hell of a sexy scent on a guy, I think. I got this for the DH, who tried it last night. First off there is dry dark cocoa powder, mixed with musk and lavendar. They blend together smoothly, and my husband did notice it was "foody" without being foody (the cocoa). The cocoa softens and becomes the interior spine of the scent, instead of the first note on the surface. As the cocoa softens, the musk deepens, the vetiver comes out a little and the lavender is just a hint. I think the other notes are there too, but everything blends so well together that I can't identify anything in particular. I love it on my husband, and think while it would smell good on a woman, it's a more masculine scent. And while I know it has lavender in it, I don't think it's a sleep-inducing scent. Far the opposite, actually! This is a bottle, for sure.

    Saw-Scaled Viper

In the imp, it smells so good. Lilke cinnamon-scented chocolate, covering slices of ginger. On, it retains this for a few minutes, then morphs into cinnamon red-hots, with soft ginger in the background. It also develops a "baked good" scent that doesn't bang you over the head, but it under the surface asking if you're hungry. Eventually the red-hots soften, the SO emerges, the baked good note subsides and it's a spicy, dry blend. Not a lot of vanilla, but a ton of spice. I like it, but I'm not sure what I'll do with it yet.

    Australian Copperhead (2006)

In the imp, very fruity, sharp and soapy. I put it on with trepidation. On, it remains fruity and soapy and sharp, but i can detect Snake Oil very far underneath. Pretty quickly the soap fades, then the fruit fades, and the SO rises to the fore. It is still a little sharp, but since that is the way fresh SO is on me, I think that isn't an issue. It settles into a slightly sharp SO with a hint of sweet berry beneath it. It's a little sharp for me right now, but I think this one will age really well, and will hold onto my imp, possibly getting a bottle. eta: it gets a sweet undercurrent, a beautiful sweet vanilla, once it's been on an hour.

    Green Tree Viper

I love mint, so had to try this. In the imp, it is pretty much a peppermint single note to me. But on, it is peppermint, with a hint of spearmint under, with wintergreen in the far distance. It has a subtle sweetness. Eventually the mint softens, and a muted Snake Oil appears, but it is less the rich vanilla of SO and more the "exotic oils" part, but sugared. It is a soft, beautiful scent. A little later, a tea note comes through lightly. It is a soft tea note, not the more bright one that I usually notice. I find it very different from Lick It, which is one of my all-time favorites. I wasn't sure how the Snake Oil and the mint would come together, but it is beautiful. It is also light, as others have said. I will very likely be getting a bottle of this.

    Thalassa, the Galapagos Mermaid

In the imp, this is pure soap to me. I tried it on, though, because you just never know. On, it remained soap, with a hint of flowers far under the white sharp soap. It stays strongly soapy for 30 minutes, and then the soap fades and a salty-sweet aquatic, very light, comes out to play. And then after that might be frankincense. It is very light overall, and a morpher. I hate the soap stage, and I like the brief salty-sweet, and where it is now. I'm not sure what I'll do with this imp yet, but I know I won't be getting a bottle.

    Svadhinaopatika

I think the scent matches the description for it very well. It is a beautiful, sensual, confident fragrance. On me, the amber and honey come out to play first, creating a softly powdery amber that is beautiful. Then the amber softens, and the currant emerges, sweet, fruity and blending with the honey. The Massoia bark (which I think is supposed to be faintly coconutty?) makes a brief appearance, then fades again, as the amber re-emerges. From this point on, the amber and the currant dominate the scent, creating a slightly fruity warm and spicy scent. It is light on my skin, but definitly a sensual scent, not an ethereal one. I really like the opening stages, especially when the currant dominates, but the currant/amber drydown has a sharpness to it (probably due to the amber, which does that to me sometimes) that I don't like, so I'll be swapping this one.

    Luperci

This is for Luperci 2007, which I had to get, since I missed last year's and always wished I'd gotten it! On the hubby (and on me, actually)-beeswax that rapidly dries down leaving just the hint of sweetness behind, mixed with a musky patchouli/juniper that smells sexy and confident, but not aggressive or brash. It is definitly masculine, but not so much that a woman couldn't wear it on occasion too. My husband likes it, and for both of us we are reminded of a similarity to Scarecrow. Unfortunately, there is also a note that doesn't sit well with me, and so, while my husband likes it, thankfully he doesn't love it, and it can go into swaps.

    Snow-Flakes

I hate it when I write a review and it dissapears on me! Anyway, I got a decant of this (thanks ayelienne!) and am so glad I did. It does smell like Snow White in the imp, only softer and lighter. No mint that I could smell in the imp. When on, there is a 20 minute morph period, where it goes from Snow White to wintergreen, to pine, to soap, to sharp soap a la Numb. And then, everything but Snow White leaves, and I'm left with SW on my wrists, light and soft, and without the plasticky, sharp note that SW gives me. Plus, it has staying power, remaining softly present throughout several hours and a long workout. Except for the 20 minute morph, I really like it, and will probably get a bottle before it leaves.

Essence of Sunlight - What's the sunniest scent?

Reading through your description again of what you've tried and what appeals, I'm going to go ahead and tenth or twentieth the Lion. Even though I think it's more dry heat, I think the others are right! This will probably be a winner for you. And probably Dirty (my previous rec) won't be-even though it is to me.

Essence of Sunlight - What's the sunniest scent?

I have to go against all the Lion sun-lovers! I like the Lion, and it is a warm scent, but it is a dry heat; more like"scorched sun" than "sunshine" (imho, of course). For me, the complete essence of sunshine is Dirty. Whenever I wear it, I imagine golden sun-drenched green fields in summer, with children playing in them-sunshine and happiness in a bottle. It's not citrus, it's not spicy at all-it's fresh, light and bright, carefree and joyous, with a sweet edge that keeps it from being sharp. my $.02.

    Thirteen (13): October 2006

I love this 13! In the bottle, it is dry cocoa powder. When wet, it retains the cocoa powder for a brief time, then settles into a creamy, sweet, soft, warm sandalwood vanilla. There are probably some other notes adding to the smooth sweetness, but they aren't obvious, and definitly it isn't orange on me. I love the dry down, and I also love the initial cocoa, so to get the best of both worlds, I put a little on the ends of my hair, in addition to my wrists. Cocoa lasted for hours! I will be keeping this one. I may get a second.

    Sol Invictus

I think what I get initially is saffron, heliotrope and frankincense. For a brief time, the citrus and tangerine kick in, lightly, and then they fade again. What ultimately develops is a warm resinous blend, that seems like it has musk in it (perhaps this is the amber doing that?), and on me smells very similar to the drydown of Spellbound, but sharper. This doesn't quite respond well with my skin, being a little sharper than I like, and not sweet at all, but I am so glad I tried it.

    Punkie Night

Apples, a hint of cranberries and some woods. As it dries down, the cranberries and woods become less apparant, the apple cider becomes obvious and the spices within the apple cider amp a bit. I like the beginning, which is sweet, light and crisp apple, but am not fond of the middle and end, which reminds me slightly of a candle.

    Pumpkin Queen

Lovely, buttery pumpkin with the hint underneath of orange peel. In it's later states, the buttery-ness has faded, the pumpkin is indistinct, but there is a hint of mandarin on the finish, along with amber and cardamom. It does fade rather fast on me, so I think this will be one to reapply often, but that's ok. It's really lovely, and I'm happy I grabbed a bottle.
