Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood.

There were a set of testers out at Convergence XII that included the Mouse. The minute, I sniffed this, I found a spot for it on my skin and just fell in love. Rich creamy vanilla, enhanced by amber and sandalwood. I loved this one so much that I returned to the booth after my shower to put some more on to wear all day. I tried to convince the labbies to let me steal take the Mouse home with me, but as that didn't happen, I'll be ordering a bottle as soon as possible. Fans of Antique Lace and other creamy vanilla blends will enjoy this one. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Resiny, without being too resiny. This one stayed pretty true to form on me and didn't morph. Something managed to keep the amber from going powdery. It was long lasting and held up to the heat and humidity of New Orleans without being cloying.

Check out the poem in its proper form on the Lab's website (or in your handy copy of Alice in Wonderland), 'cause we can't make the spacing work right on the forum.
The Lion, from Mad Tea Party:

The dry, glorious warmth of the Savannah. A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious.

He's strong and swarthy, with the tiniest bit of cinnamon and moderate spice hanging in the air around him. I swear I smell the cat smell that comes off the lions at the zoo - thick fur, a bit of dirt, and some sort of hay or pellet-ed food from a nearby enclosure.

There's a hint of sweetness - I don't know if this Lion is from the Wardrobe, or the Lion and Unicorn scene in Alice, but he very well could have been eating mirror cake to get this faint sweetness under it all. Maybe a hint of clove, or ginger? I don't usually care for those two, so I can't identify which it is, but it's very nice here.

The Lion dries down soft, fuzzy, and with a faint, powdered-sugar lushness that keeps it from being exactly sweet. That particular note is similar to the divine soft, almost-sweet, dryness in Old Morocco, but without the saffron vibe. I imagine this is what it would smell like to walk up to a sleeping lion at the zoo -one who's just had a bath and is laying in the sun, after rolling around in a patch of soft dried grass - and bury your face in his warm, wooly mane.

Edited to add - I ordered a bottle of Egyptian Amber single note from the Lab, and hadn't opened it yet. The minute I opened the bottle, I was bowled over by both the scent and my ignorance, because it was the faintly cinnamon note in the Lion that I love but couldn't identify - turns out the Lion is loaded with egyptian amber!

'Get to your places!' shouted the Queen in a voice of thunder, and people began running about in all directions, tumbling up against each other; however, they got settled down in a minute or two, and the game began. Alice thought she had never seen such a curious croquet-ground in her life; it was all ridges and furrows; the balls were live hedgehogs, the mallets live flamingoes, and the soldiers had to double themselves up and to stand on their hands and feet, to make the arches.

The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo: she succeeded in getting its body tucked away, comfortably enough, under her arm, with its legs hanging down, but generally, just as she had got its neck nicely straightened out, and was going to give the hedgehog a blow with its head, it would twist itself round and look up in her face, with such a puzzled expression that she could not help bursting out laughing: and when she had got its head down, and was going to begin again, it was very provoking to find that the hedgehog had unrolled itself, and was in the act of crawling away: besides all this, there was generally a ridge or furrow in the way wherever she wanted to send the hedgehog to, and, as the doubled-up soldiers were always getting up and walking off to other parts of the ground, Alice soon came to the conclusion that it was a very difficult game indeed.

We have some trouble managing our flamingos, too. Pink lime, pink grapefruit, white nectarine, wild rose, sage, woody patchouli, bergamot, and ornery hedgehog musk.

OMG! I totally forgot that I ordered this but I'm overjoyed that I did. I need a bottle of this STAT. I feared that Croquet was going to be a scary fruit scent, but instead it's creamy, citrus-y, warm yet refreshing, sweet and uplifting.

The pink lime and pink grapefruit burst forth, kicking the senses into high gear. Sweet bits of nectarine start to peek out lending a creaminess to the citrus burst. The gorgeous sage note from Morella that I adore comes to warm this scent. The undercurrents of patchouli and musk ground this scent from being too bright.

I can't stop sniffing my arm and my face looks like this ~~~~>

This is a very sexy scent and I normally don’t like rose so that is a pleasant change. I also feel this scent is gender neutral, I’d love this on anyone I think. I really don't know the individual smells of most of Elizabeth's oils yet, and this is definitely a loaded scent (look at how many are listed just in the description!) so it was very interesting but frustrating to try and analyze it. ‘It proves nothing of the sort!’ said Alice. ‘Why, you don’t even know what they’re about!’

‘Read them,’ said the King.

The White Rabbit put on his spectacles. ‘Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?’ he asked.

‘Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, ‘and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’

These were the verses the White Rabbit read:—

They told me you had been to her,
And mentioned me to him:
She gave me a good character,
But said I could not swim.

He sent them word I had not gone
(We know it to be true):
If she should push the matter on,
What would become of you?

I gave her one, they gave him two,
You gave us three or more;
They all returned from him to you,
Though they were mine before.

If I or she should chance to be
Involved in this affair,
He trusts to you to set them free,
Exactly as we were.

My notion was that you had been
(Before she had this fit)
An obstacle that came between
Him, and ourselves, and it,

Don\'t let him know she liked them best,
For this must ever be
A secret, kept from all the rest,
Between yourself and me.

‘That’s the most important piece of evidence we’ve heard yet,’ said the King, rubbing his hands; ‘so now let the jury—’

‘If any one of them can explain it,’ said Alice, (she had grown so large in the last few minutes that she wasn’t a bit afraid of interrupting him,) ‘I’ll give him sixpence. I don’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it.’

The jury all wrote down on their slates, ‘She doesn’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it,’ but none of them attempted to explain the paper.

‘If there’s no meaning in it,’ said the King, ‘that saves a world of trouble, you know, as we needn’t try to find any…’

Containing nary a neutron of meaning: rum-quince-cassis with prune and a bit of black ginger.

Mmmmm!!

In the bottle, I smell spices and dark purple fruits.

Once applied, it\'s ginger and spicy, sugary plums. Not like, gross prunes. These are yummy super sugary ripe plums!

On the drydown, the prunes calm down a bit, leaving the spices on top, a bit of sweet ginger in the middle, and yummy purple fruit on the bottom poking around the edges. The overall effect is so lovely!

THE DODO

‘In that case,’ said the Dodo solemnly, rising to its feet, ‘I move that the meeting adjourn, for the immediate adoption of more energetic remedies —’

‘Speak English!’ said the Eaglet. ‘I don’t know the meaning of half those long words, and, what’s more, I don’t believe you do either!’ And the Eaglet bent down its head to hide a smile: some of the other birds tittered audibly.

‘What I was going to say,’ said the Dodo in an offended tone, ‘was, that the best thing to get us dry would be a Caucus-race.’

‘What is a Caucus-race?’ said Alice; not that she wanted much to know, but the Dodo had paused as if it thought that somebody ought to speak, and no one else seemed inclined to say anything.

‘Why,’ said the Dodo, ‘the best way to explain it is to do it.’ (And, as you might like to try the thing yourself, some winter day, I will tell you how the Dodo managed it.)

First it marked out a race-course, in a sort of circle, (‘the exact shape doesn’t matter,’ it said,) and then all the party were placed along the course, here and there. There was no ‘One, two, three, and away,’ but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. However, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out ‘The race is over!’ and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking, ‘But who has won?’

This question the Dodo could not answer without a great deal of thought, and it sat for a long time with one finger pressed upon its forehead (the position in which you usually see Shakespeare, in the pictures of him), while the rest waited in silence. At last the Dodo said, ‘everybody has won, and all must have prizes.’

Red musk, lemon peel, sugar cane, cassia, white sandalwood, mango, and agarwood.

I had some pretty high expectations for this one, with the sugar cane, lemon peel, and mango, but the cassia is really overpowering.

Wet: cinnamon scented plastic, although I can smell a hint of the lemon

Dry: Red Hots candy, and it's making a big itchy, red spot on my arm where I tested it.

This one is definitely going into the sell pile, and I'm going into the bathroom to wash my arm off.

It's almost a minty undertone mingled with the tea, but the effect is gorgeous, elegant, clean, and uniquely complex. This sweetened just a little on dry down but never enough to be cloying.

Wow, first review? I ordered a 5 ml unsniffed, because I love me some roses, and this? This is some roses. My mother just walked by and asked me if I was what smelled so good - I was!

In the bottle, this is actually kind of subdued. Wet green roses, not quite open yet, still tight baby buds.

Wet on the wrists, 2/5/7 is sweet, damp, flushed roses. Dizzy roses. Rose petals falling in a rain all around you, drenching you in rosey rose rose. Not deep red roses, but pink rose, white roses, yellow roses - bright, colorful roses. This isn't a womanly rose scent, but a fun, innocent, playful rose. It really does make me think of Alice in her little frock and mary janes wandering in the rose garden, all wide-eyed with wonder at what she was seeing.

The single drawback is that it faded within 4 hours on my skin, even though I slathered. But the last three new oils I've tried faded fast on me, so it might just be my chemistry, and I have a feeling this one may get stronger as it ages.

In the bottle: The main scent was the sharp grapefruit scent. I almost put it back to try a different one today but thought I'd be adventureous.

Wet: I could definitely smell other scents coming into play. The grapefruit faded but there was still an undefined fruitiness...but not fruity. It isn't really a floral either...If that makes sense.

An hour later: It has melded to the point where I can't distinguish a single note but it has the overall impression of walking through an overgrown orchard in the sunshine. There is a bit of fruit in there along with a bit of floral...no one thing overwhelms the other. There is something in there that I've never smelled before and it might be the delphinium...or just the way they meld together. This is a great spring/summer scent...definitely a keeper.

A couple of hours later: Still a very wonderful scent but mostly faded. If I had the imp with me, I'd reapply because I love the scent. I still like it and will probably get more.

Soon her eye fell on a little glass box that was lying under the table: she opened it, and found in it a very small cake, on which the words `EAT ME' were beautifully marked in currants.

`Well, I'll eat it,' said Alice, `and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door; so either way I'll get into the garden, and I don't care which happens!'

She ate a little bit, and said anxiously to herself, `Which way? Which way?', holding her hand on the top of her head to feel which way it was growing, and she was quite surprised to find that she remained the same size: to be sure, this generally happens when one eats cake, but Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.

On this one is cakey and delicious but it is in no way as heavy as some of the other foody blends (gluttony, beaver moon and the like). This one is so sweet and light I almost lost it at one point and decided to add one more drop to see it out. This is so tasty and might lead some of you over to the foody side.

Before this was brought out to sniff I had asked a labbie how she thought this smelled and she said a watery version of Beaver Moon and I have to say I so see that description in it. There is something slightly watery about this. Maybe Alice had already begun to cry before she ate this little morsel.

`Never mind!' Alice said in a soothing tone, and stooping down to the daisies, who were just beginning again, she whispered, `If you don't hold your tongues, I'll pick you!'
The green tea takes the zing up a notch and makes it even brighter. But what is this about patchouli? I usually hate patchouli, and I don’t smell any in this at all. There is a very light incensey background, but the fruit covers it so it’s barely there, that must be the patchouli. This is a perfect summer scent, it smells like a fresh fruit salad. This is no shrinking Violet. Unlike the Violet in Ultraviolet, this Violet has the upper hand. Which is rare on my skin where violet usually is much more subtle. I think it's the specific Violet-Mint combo. The resin helps this from being too high-pitched.r

No powder, soap or grandma feel to this.

This particular blend blows my mind. Will have to test over the month to see how it works but DAMN! This is a perfect Violet for people who don't do violet. Also kind of nice for late Summer into Autumn.

Edit to heap MORE love on this scent.

It is a fabulous mixture of violet, green and brown.

The Knave of Hearts

THE KNAVE OF HEARTS

'Herald, read the accusation!' said the King.

On this the White Rabbit blew three blasts on the trumpet, and then unrolled the parchment scroll, and read as follows:--

'The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts,

All on a summer day:

The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts,

And took them quite away!'

Crushed roses and blackcurrant tarts.

Wow, my first time being the first to review a blend!! I hope I do it some justice

I love roses, so I have to try all of Beth's rose blends no matter what the other notes are. When I first opened the bottle, all I could think was "Eat Me". Not literally of course It reminds me very much of Eat Me, but with a floral underneath. It is quite strong in the bottle. Once I put it on it calmed down pretty quickly. It has average throw and seems to be lasting quite awhile on me. Once dry, the blackcurrant tart note remains on top but the rose comes out to play a bit more. All those afraid of roses shouldn't worry, it doesn't scream rose. The rose just adds a bit of green to make it less foody. Overall I think I like this quite a bit. I will definitely hang onto it
