BPAL

  • Favorite Scents
I love all kinds of scents, depending on my constantly shifting moods! From mysterious, feminine, and sophisticated; sad, delicate, and moody; to playful and lolitaesque. The more complex, the better! Favorite notes: VANILLA, citrus (especially grapefruit), rose, pumpkin, amber, tea, ginger, pomegranate, milk, bamboo; Least favorite notes: Jasmine, patchouli; Favorite BPAL scents so far: Snake Oil, Alice, Sudha Segera, Blood Rose, Persephone, Amsterdam My wishlist: http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=127&pid=761347&st=1325&#entry761347

  1. I've always thought that Kumiho has a noticeable similarity to Calvin Klein's Truth but it seems the notes are completely different! fragrance notes in Truth: bamboo, patchouli, vetiver, wet woods, white peony, white clover and sapling sensual notes: vanilla, white amber, silk tree flower, acacia flower, white sandalwood, woods and musk Kumiho: white tea and ginger ?!?! Still, I adore them both!!

    Black Phoenix

In the bottle, first impression = YUM! Black cherry almond liqeur (if there is such a thing!) Very dark and decadent. BUT! My skin chemistry does something really, really weird to this one. When I was a little girl in Japan, I used to own a Rhinoceros beetle (these giant, black, shiny, scarab beetles with a ginormous horn on top of its head) as a pet. It sort of smells like the way my rhino beetle's cage smelled! On one hand, I sort of like it, because I adored that beetle and it's all nostalgic and everything but on the other hand, I'm not sure if I want to smell like him! I'm not sure if this review is very helpful because I don't know if that many people here knows what a japanese rhinoceros beetle cage smells like, but... yeah.

    Lolita

boohoo. i was really disappointed in this one, since i had really high expectations for it... i'm all about the schoolgirl/lolita look! (hey, i'm japanese! i can't help these things, haha!) sadly though, this smelled like a slightly candy-ish lemon pledge from start to finish on me. grrrr... i wanted to like this so badly!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

i'm actually SUPER-sensitive to a lot of fragrances, but i've had really good luck so far with BPAL scents. (*knocks on wood!*) so far, the only scents i've had bad allergic reactions to two oils. the first was ode to melancholy... it made me feel like i rubbed fiberglass insulation all over my face and body and then crushed it up and inhaled it to boot... itchiness + sneeziness! languor caused an extreme reaction in me for some reason; my eyes became all bloodshot and teary and my entire face went itchy! i had to take two claritin and bombard my eyes with lubricating eye drops in order to get to bed!
  5. ... do Follow Me Boy and Mata Hari smell EXACTLY alike?!? I recently bought these imps from a member of this forum and to my surprise, Mata Hari and Follow Me Boy smell (I'm pretty sure) almost EXACTLY alike, both in the imps and on my skin! In addition to that, I don't smell any coffee in Mata Hari, so I asked the person I bought from if there could have been some sort of mix up somewhere and she said she got them straight from the lab a few months ago, so now I'm thinking i'm semi-insane here. Do these two scents smell realllllly similar to one another or is it time to call the nice men with the white jackets? *confused!*

    Sudha Segara

Ohmyexquisitemilkgingerheaven! This scent is so warm and comforting. It reminds me of my childhood, coming in from a snowy day and curling up with a cup of steamed milk and honey... except with a surprising ginger twist! It's one of my favorite scents to wear when I have insomnia. It just makes me feel nice and fetal and safe. Yumminess x 3548.

    Ode on Melancholy

I'm brand-spankingly new to BPAL perfumes and this was the description that first caught my eye... it sounded so heart-wrenchingly beautiful! Lavendar is my absolute favorite scent too, so of course, I ordered an imp straight away. It's the scent that I wanted to try the most out of all the ones I ordered. The first time I opened the vial - oh no! It smelled like laundry detergent to me! On my skin, again, Ode to Liquid Laundry Detergent! Grrr. But!!! Then! The incredible power of body chemistry! It mellowed down to a gorrrrgeous, watery/teary floral... almost virginal, perfectly ghostly, and exactly what I was first expecting! Yay!! Kitty and heart-shaped confetti party flying everywhere (mostly in my brain and heart!) But of course, of course, I have the worst possible luck. A few hours later, I began developing an allergic reaction to it - sneezing, watery eyes, itchy skin, the whole deal. ACK! So sad (which I guess is the point in a way, haha!).... I love this scent so much and wish I could wear it!
