Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Oooh that's interesting.. I have an expensive L'heure Bleue addiction (to complement the expensive BPAL addiction ) I'll have to see if I can get my paws on an imp of I died for beauty.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I'm a big fan of the original D&G perfume, it's been a favourite of mine since I was a teenager, wearing it takes me right back to University. Given the disparity in listed notes, this may sound a bit odd but when I tried Dia it very much reminded me of D&G. Dia - White amber, coconut, white musk, oakmoss, and tobacco flower. After I read your post I decided to do a sniff test, so I've now got Dia on my left wrist and D&G on my right. Dia has a strong coconutty top note on me, whilst D&G is all carnation but once they start to dry down there's a similar slightly dry, warm, creamy floral underneath. Cousins not twins on me, but both lovely! Might be worth investigating? Edited to add that after I've had them both on for a couple of hours they've become more similar - I can still tell the difference, there's still a bit of coconut going on with Dia but they're very alike on me. :love!:

    Lovers in a Ricefield

First on this is all creamy rice milk with a little bit of fruit - it's quite pretty but a little bit generic hair conditioner scent! As it dries it becomes a bit fresher and fruitier with a very slight hint of the spice from the nutmeg. The underlying creamy rice scent remains and reminds me of something else, Castitas bath oil from the Trading Post. These scents are cousins, not twins but I think they might be very pretty layered together.
  4. I've been trying to find oils to pair with this too - Old Moon and Jolasveinar (not sure I've spelt that right) complement the scent well. I also think Lines Written amongst the Euganean hills, though closer to Winter Maiden goes well too. And you can put me down for another person hoping to find something that goes well with Castitas, the scent is lovely but very faint on me
  5. Hello I was just wondering whether anyone who has tried Hanerot Halalu could comment on whether it's similar to Lush's olive branch? I got the impression the two might be similar.... Thank you!
  6. I have been chased down the corridor at work by a student wanting to know what my perfume was. "Oh,you smell so warm and soft and wonderful, what IS your perfume?!' Lucky for me it was my number one fave, Lucifer. I don't know if it's because I slather a bit more since I love it so much, but Lucifer always gets me the compliments, though I do worry a little about people thinking I am a crazy satanist lady with my devil perfume

    Hexennacht (2008)

I really didn't get on with Hexennacht when the bottle originally arrived, it was all super sinus clearing pine and not much else. But I hung on to the bottle and prayed that a bit of aging might mellow things a little and I'm pleased to say that's exactly what's happened. Wet on the skin, and for a short while afterwards it's still very very piney, but as it dries the pine softens a lot and the warm smoke and fur scents become apparent. It's quite lovely, makes me think of warm sunny days in Scandinavian forests! We go camping a lot in a little yurt we've made, Hexennacht is the perfect camp fire accompaniment

    Tupapau

I'm really pleased I ordered tupapau - I generally find full on florals a bit headache-inducing but they're tamed here by the sandalwood and moss, and on me this is a sweet green tropical scent - there's something almost aquatic about it, perhaps that's the moss doing that. I've never been to Hawaii so can't comment on how well it conjures up the islands, but between the sandalwood and the plumeria it reminds me of walking round the gardens at the Taj Mahal at sunset and that's a lovely memory to evoke, consequently this is a very happy smelling scent for me.

    Opuhi

On initial application this is dominated by a strong sweet ginger note which I don't find entirely pleasant (it reminds me most of the smell of the medicine I had to take when I had mumps when I was 5, bleugh). However, once that's past it settles into a warm, slightly exotic sweet vanilla scent, and lasts a good few hours, and is really lovely. I can see the similarity to Love's Philosophy but I prefer this, it's not as cloying. I'm considering buying a second bottle..
  10. I've been trying to track down something that smells similar to the Green Party bath ballistic that was out this Christmas (and I now have a massive hoard of!). They mention galbanum, bergamot and ylang ylang in the description - along with unspecified 'perfume' - I've seen someone else compare it to Chanel Christalle and I can see the similarity - any ideas on BPAL that might match up? Thanks!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

If Dorian is too sweet you could try Theodosius the Ledgerdemain from the carnival diabolique.. it's a lot like Dorian but just a bit musky-ier and crisper. I loves it, on me or the boy

I've just tried Lysander.. apart from being utterly, utterly lovely, it reminds me very much of Yohji Yamamoto which I used to wear years ago, tis wonderful

    Shakespearian enabling

Ok.. thanks for all the great suggestions.. i think this is my plan: Rosalind Titania Goneril Othello Caliban Lady MacBeth Hopefully a good mix of different scents there and an interesting set of characters. A couple of them I've really no idea if she'd like, but I'm trying not to be swayed too much by my own preferences, Caliban and Lady MacBeth in particular because of the wine, which isn't a note I'm familiar with (well, not in perfume anyway ) Oh just spotted this.. Queen Mab.. I love that speech.. but if I'm having Titania I don't know if I should have Mab as well..

Hmm.. well, the question of her preferences is a problem as I don't get to see her much these days - I'm in Manchester and she lives just down the road from the Lab in Santa Monica! So I am thinking I'll get a good variety of different sorts of smells. Tamora sounds lovely.. as does Titania but possibly quite similar so I'll go with just one of them. Caliban is an option for variety - sounds nothing like the kind of thing I would go for, so I can't really even imagine it , but I guess what I like is not the point is it!! I also like the sound of Lear and Titus Andronicus.. argh too much choice.. Is there an emoticon for people overwhelmed at too many bpal options??!

Hello I want to make up an imp pack for a mate of mine as a birthday present. She'd be all agog at the prospect of the Illyria series but since I've yet to try any of them I would love to know your favourites. I'm not sure what kind of scents she's into so I plan to get her a variety of different things to try to cover the spectrum.. any suggestions would be most appreciated Thanks, Sarri
