As single notes go, I adore Lily of the Valley. I've always kept some on hand, even before discovering BPL. I'm awaiting my first two shipments from them, however, so I'll have a favorite soon!

    Chaos Theory

My bottle: Chaos XCIV. I have to say, I count myself amongst the befuddled-but-not-displeased. This scent is sweet, sweet, sweet. I recognize something that could be black cherry, and there's definitely a trace of vanilla swimming around in there. There's something underneath these two predominating notes that confuses the hell out of me, and I despair of ever being able to put my nose on it. Maybe sassafras. Whatever else it is, this blend is fruit and cream.

    Masabakes

Cinnamon, current, something dark and evocative of cedar (the mandrake?). Like a sorceress' root cellar. I'm glad that I made a swap for this; it's definitely a unique scent, a good departure for me to take. I usually wear florals and incense-associated oils, but this is, despite the myrrh, something else entirely on my skin.

    Blue Moon 2004

I actually received my bottle a couple days ago, and I set it aside and didn't open it until today. Actually, I wanted to wait till the 31st, but my curiosity got the better of me! I'm unbelievably sad that this is a limited edition, because of all the oils I've sampled so far, this is my absolute favorite. The floral scents hang in pure, perfect balance, and mugwort has always been one of my favorite herbs. The juniper sets it apart from everything else in my basket. It's precious.

    Kitsune-Tsuki

Kitsune-Tsuki are malevolent Japanese spirits, akin to western werebeasts: women are possessed by the spirits of foxes, who compel them to perform acts of wickedness and mischief. Asian plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine and white musk. Plum wine. Plum wine and orchid. Swapping my bottle of Eidolon for this scent was an excellent move: this smells of two of my favorite things in the world.

    Embalming Fluid

Seems to me that this is a milder version of The Apothecary -- clear water and gentle herbs, soft strike of citrus. It's nice, but not forceful enough; putting it up for swap.

    Szepasszony

This doesn't last as long on me as I had hoped -- perhaps an hour and a half -- but it's utterly gorgeous. Veiled and mysterious tang in the bottle, entirely shocking vibrancy on the skin. The flowers grow stronger as it dries.

    Eidolon

Bright and clear, piney. It smells on my skin exactly as it smells in the bottle, only softened somewhat, and it has amazing staying power. The bergamot makes a cameo after drying. Also glad that I chose this in 5ml.

    Eve

Lovely, floral and powdery. I can't detect the honey very well on myself, but the apple shows up after it dries. An imp worth hanging onto.

    Chypre

Oh, I'm in love. In the bottle, this scent is abrupt and intriguing. The lavender is dominant, but once I dabbed some on my skin, the white musk showed up as a well-blended foundation. Now, after about an hour and a half, the violet is in full, glorious bloom. Somewhere in the drying process, I was reminded of purple candy hearts and violet jellies. Very glad I went on instinct and got 5ml.

    Tempest

First sniff, I was intrigued, even admiring -- rain on the ocean, cleansing wind. On my skin, it was nothing but a piercing headache. Up for swap with this one!

    The Hesperides

Being a Sagittarius, I am frequently blunt, and will exercize my penchant for being so here: this oil is hideous. First sniff sent me reeling, but I'm open-minded enough to give something a second chance, so I dabbed some on my wrist. Slightly less pungent than in the bottle, but the sweetness leapt out so sickly that I gagged. Cakey, sugary excess. Not my vial of oil.

    Incantation

The lemon rind and sandalwood combine to remind me sharply of pine: rainy spring days back at home in Pennsylvania. Bright and crisp, mossy undertones. I got this as a free imp, and I may entertain the idea of a 5ml in the future. Whoever said that this oil evokes memory, I'm inclined to agree.
