    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

So it's not just me! I feel better, at least. Please do let me know if you find something! @feyofthefellwood Thank you for the recommendation. I am going to look those up. I haven't tried much from either, so let's see what happens. @artisjok I tried Billet-Doux when it was new; back then I thought it was more of a light, barely-there floral than a paper scent. That could be my chemistry, however. I've also tried Bristol Two-Ply, and I even tried India Ink too. WOW Bristol Two-Ply smells like paper! It's like standing in a good art store with pads and big sheets of watercolor paper. It is exactly what it says it is, but not old books. BOOKS was completely under my radar. I'm going to see if I can try that one. Thanks very much!

    Old books... Books, paper, libraries

I've been looking for a good book scent for years. Here's my problem: almost every book scent I've tried includes leather. Leather tomes, leather chairs, etc. As much as I love a good leather smell, I just want to smell like old paperbacks . . . That wonderful smell of crumbly pages. But every book scent I try goes leather or incense, and I've been looking for something different. Any ideas?

    Christmas Swap Help

Handmade items & homemade food: Sure Shakespearean swag: All of it! Favorite Christmas story: A Christmas Carol (the book), A Christmas Story, the Peanuts and Grinch cartoons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman Returns, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas Numbered packages or random: I think I'd prefer numbered, but random is certainly not going to break my heart! Goodreads or other wish lists: https://www.goodread...ow/866982-mandy https://amzn.com/w/24XCSSTQRFDPX Books in a series-- in order? I prefer books in order, but if you say they can stand alone, I believe you! Trader Joe's: Never even been in one, so I have no idea what they have. Shoe size: 8 US Women's

    Christmas Swap Help

Can I make you a scarf/cowl/sweater/lap blanket to keep you wintery-warm!? Absolutely! Do you like to receive plants or gardening stuff? Do you grow plants? What's your favourite flower, if you have one? Yes, I would love something like that. I'm currently trying to keep a couple of herbs and a miniature rose alive. I do love roses. How do you feel about knit socks? (Plain stockinette, lacework, cables, etc). Are there any other hand knit items you'd especially like? (Mittens, fingerless gloves, hats, etc). No mittens and I probably wouldn't wear hats. But socks are good, and I love fingerless gloves. What kind of snacks do you like? Cheese, nuts, olives, peppers, jerky . . . Whatever doesn't have a lot of sugar or carbs right now would be awesome, especially with the holidays! What sort of dollar store items do you always get a kick out of? No idea . . . Sometimes I find really fun decorations for the holidays there. And I can always use battery-powered candles. If there's one place you could go in the world, where and why? I'd go back to London! If you had a custom perfume/beauty/bath product made for you, what would it be and what would the scent description look like? I would love a hair gloss, maybe with very good vanilla. If you could commission an art piece, would you choose traditional or digital artwork- and what would it be of? Either, probably a literary theme. When it comes to makeup, what is your coloring? Fair, dark? Sensitive skin? Eye color? Hair color? Style....funky, natural? Any additional makeup info? Fair with sensitive skin, green eyes, long brown hair. Picky about cosmetics, but I do like nail polish if I can get it to stay on! I don't do artificial nails or eyelashes. Christmas decor this year: Just moved into a new apartment, so I don't know how much I'm going to have handy *to* decorate. (I have some space, though.) I do still get a kick out of Charlie Brown Christmas decorations, no matter how cheesy they get. I love retro, old-fashioned, Victorian, pretty much anything . . . Are there Gothic Christmas directions? Also, I need more Krampus in my life. Is there any craft or hobby that you are interested in trying? I don't have a ot of time for new crafts and hobbies, although I've been thinking about making candles. (Random, I know!) Would anyone mind bath and body works items? Such as hand sanitizer, lotion, candles, car scents or soap? I use the sanitizer all the time. I have a lot of their lotions already, but hand soap, candles, sprays, and their lip care items. Any Lush showergel (or other product) you'd like to try? I sort of collect their showergels, mostly from The Kitchen. So if there's anything you'd like to try, now's the time to tell! I adore their "Silky Underwear" and "T for Toes" has just about saved my relationship! There are a lot of Lush products I haven't tried, however, including showergels. I can't use bath bombs right now, but anything for the shower is great. Do you like licorice or would you like to try it? Would you prefer salt or sweet? Not crazy about licorice itself, although Possets' Liza and Venus Black are two of my favorite scents ever. I live in The Netherlands but I will visit England soon and might pay a visit to Germany. Anything special from here that you'd like to try? I can't think of anything . . . Except maybe airline tickets! is you BPAL wishlist updated? If not: please do! I just updated. Still waiting on most of my Halloween and Lilith decants, however, so that could change. Oh, and maybe, just in case, I should answer my own question! As far as sweeteners go, stevia is my friend right now. I can also do Splenda/sucralose about twice a week. Sugar alcohols in very small doses are also OK.
  5. Creeping ivy and black yew, benzoin, and lichen-crusted bark. At first this was WHOA NELLY green, crisp and fresh and sharp. After it took a few minutes to settle down, however, I think I'm in love with it. The bark reminds me of a long-lamented discontinued favorite, Hesperides. "A Man in Armour" doesn't have that sweet yellow apple, of course, but what it does have is a wonderful fragrance, brought together with benzoin. For me, this is a keeper for sure.
  6. Tarot cards/oracle decks - yay or nay? Yay! If yay, do you already have any? Yes Which ones? Rider-Waite, Hanson-Roberts, Cat People, Vertigo, Zombie Tarot. Cryptozoology/cryptids (Big Foot, lake monsters, chupacabra, etc.) - yay or nay? Not really, although I suspect the chorkie may actually be a baby chupacabra. I'm a honey affecionado (I really love honey) and our renn Faire has a local honey booth we go to every year and our trip is coming up. Anything from http://www.beefolks.com/default.asp suit your fancy in particular (honey or otherwise since they have other products?) Candles are great. So are lip balms with beeswax and other products. I usually get my honey from a local apiary right down the road from me, although they tend to have one variety only. It's fun to try honey from different sources, like locust honey, sourwood, etc. Haven't done that in a while. Any other renn Faire goodies in general? I have a friend who is a wood carver there and they make adorable geeky pins amount other things and Harry Potter wands? Here are the artisans there: http://www.rennfest....mation/artisans I love stuff like this. Right now I'm crazy for writing utensils and other implements of destruction--new pen nibs, different ink colors, etc. I love the kinds of things available at these faires in general--the jewelry, journals, scarves and shawls, window hangings, just about anything, really. The second part of the Haus of Gloi update is live tomorrow (the 25th)- is there anything you're interested in? I don't think I've ever tried them, but I'm always open. (Ooh, they have pumpkin and maple lip balms?) Do you celebrate Mabon? Would you like "witchy" or pagan decorations and objects? For example, pentacle wall hangings, mabon poppets, corn dollies, ritual candles, etc? No, but I do tend to like "witchy" objects (the name might be a clue!) Anyone hankering for Craftsy (http://www.craftsy.com) classes? Through tomorrow all classes are $20 or under. I'd love to, but I just don't have the time. Would you be interested in any of the following: jigsaw puzzles; puzzle books (like word searches or crossword puzzles or suduko); coloring books; card games; board games? Feel free to elaborate on preferences for any of the above! No on jigsaw puzzles (I have some I haven't worked), yes on sudoku, iffy on coloring books (the random patterns don't seem as interesting as things like Harry Potter, Marvel comic book characters, etc.). Card games and board games that I can play with friends are fantastic. We play stuff in the vein of Guillotine, Talisman, Scattergories, Betrayal at House on the Hill. Elements & Artifacts has a fall/halloween collection up? Anything catch your eye? Wow, really pretty stuff there . . . I'd find a home for almost all of it, but I especially love the candy corn bracelet. Would you like some hair falls? I can make a single (ponytail) or double (for pigtails). Short, long, types of yarns, ribbons? Extra things (buttons, beads, wire wraps? Colors/color combinations? Stuff to avoid? They're gorgeous, but not really for me. I do like hair jewelry (clips, barrettes, pins, etc.). Do you have an Etsy wish list, and if so, what's your user name there? Just never got around to putting one together. Tokyo Milk? Yea or Nay? Never tried them, but would. would you like notebooks or journals? Utilitarian or fancy? Lined or blank? Tell me of your stationery lustings. I love notebooks, stationary, blank cards, etc. I love all kinds of pens, colored pencils, inks, even sealing wax. If you are ok with knitted things, what colors do you like? Purples, blues, greens, rich reds (not yellow-toned), burgundy, black If striping, what two (or more) colors together? Autumny-colors (orange/yellow/white, black and red, black and bright green and/or purple, gold and crimson . . .) If you want yarn, what colors do you want? No yarn for me, please! Are you interested in fabric? Again, what colors, what themes, etc. Please no! I have fabric I'd like to pass on, actually . . . Need any fabric? Lace? Notions? What are your tea and/or coffee preferences? Loose leaf / whole bean or bagged / ground? Do you have a favorite type? Flavor? Retailer? Coffee: milder is better, also like flavors such as pumpkin, chocolate, etc., ground needed Tea: loose or bagged is fine. Not crazy about green teas, but both teas with caffeine or herbals are good. I really loved Island Rose Vanilla Rum, for an example. If you could receive one handmade item - everything from knitted or crocheted gloves and scarves to sewn bags to fanart or original art, what would you prefer? All of those things sound great. I do love me some fingerless gloves! (I think I've mentioned that before . . .) Also, I have a gorgeous set of photographs of an antique carousel my very first witch, DinerDulcinea, made for me. They're still hanging on my wall today. What are your favorite fandoms, if any? I don't really participate much with other fans. Right now some of my favorite things, in no particular order, are Penny Dreadful, Steven Universe (I never thought I'd like this, but I do! So, so much!), Ms. Marvel, The Evil Dead, Jessica Jones . . . Skincare- do you use a particular routine? What products would you absolutely not use? I'm OK with sugar scrubs, salt scrubs, etc. I do try to avoid anything too drying or too oily (not only would it break me out, I don't want Jack to slip in the shower!) Bath/shower products? Heaven and Earth Essentials Shine-On Shampoo and Damage Remedy Conditioner. Whatever body wash seems like a good idea at the time. BPTP products? Pre-owned okay? Absolutely! I really want to try more hair glosses (I have a bottle of Kill Devil and that's all). I used to love Hell's Belle nail polish, so I'd like to try some others. Never tried the bath oils or anything bigger than a goblin squirt of the atmosphere spray, so not sure about those. I miss the lockets--my Clocket is one of my favorite things--and the gorgeous lunacy tees they used to have. Essential oils and aromatherapy oils- yay, or nay? They would be great, although I don't have a burner right now, so I'm a bit limited in using them. Favorite animal? My dogs! In a more general sense, horses and crows . . . And apparently Pottermore thinks my patronus is a squirrel. Twilight Alchemy Lab oils? Yes. Jinx Removing, Lionheart, Wolf's Heart (good layered with the GC blend, I think). There are still a lot I haven't tried, too, and of course small batch are always intriguing.
  7. How do you feel about knitted stuff? Fancy? Plain? What types of things do you like to wear? I like knitted stuff! Scarves, fingerless gloves, arm warmers . . . I'm into beer. How 'bout you? Styles? And booze? Not as crazy about beer. I love cider, but I'm trying to avoid it due to the sweetness. I'm still down with the hard stuff, though, especially rum, vodka, and tequila. How do you feel about caramel? Salt or no? With chocolate or without? God, I adore caramel, salted, chocolatey . . . You name it. Sadly, I love it too much, and I can't have much with my new eating plan. I can smell the stuff, though, and I love anything that smells like caramel apples! Would you be interested in home made food items? - garlic dill pickles - blackberry jam - dried honey crisp apples - applesauce (with or without red hots) - elderberry syrup (with honey and apple cider vinegar - great for immune boosting) - honey from our bees - rose petal liquor (made with our own rose petals and everclear but diluted down a bit so it doesn't knock you over) - baked goods of your choice, what do you like or dislike? Garlic dill pickles--these are a freebie for me; send them on! Blackberry jam--again, the sugar issue Dried honey crisp apples--I could totally work with these. Applesauce--can't right now. Elderberry syrup--not sure? Honey--again, I could work with it. Rose petal liquor--holy cow, that sounds cool. Baked goods--pretty restricted due to dietary limitations. Breads, cookies, etc. are out, sadly. Would you be interested in project bags/pouches? I usually make flat bottom round pouches with a pocket inside and a drawstring. Possibility of embroidery if we still have the huge commercial machine. I do like these! Are you allergic to any fiber or do you know what kind of yarn you prefer? (merino, merino cashmere, merino cashmere silk, 100% silk, 100% cashmere, merino nylon, BFL, BFL silk, etc. Or do you like acrylic?) No allergies. I wouldn't want a super-fuzzy head covering, as the little bits can get stuck in my contacts, but otherwise no restrictions at all. Would you want a quilted pot holder? I've moved into a new place, and I had to toss a lot of old kitchen stuff. So I actually need stuff such as potholders, kitchen towels, etc. Do you have any preferred flavour of shortbread? Can't do it, sorry Is there anything you'd particularly like to get from the UK? Yes, a plane ticket to join you there! Anything from Japan? Ditto! Reuse shipping materials? Sure, I try to reuse too. Harry Potter? Since the very first book. I'm going to throw a Harry Potter birthday party for my nephews in a couple of weeks; wish me luck. Hibiscus Seeds? Sure. Does anyone like fleece character hats? Like these: http://wonderlandonl...like-fleece-hat? What kinda characters would you like to see? Not really for me. Do you like things with Pumpkin (or Pumpkin Spice?) Definitely. Socks/sockdreams/etc: Love socks. Would like some more striped socks, Halloween socks . . . Once i received a gift card from Sock Dreams; I used it all on gloves, though. Love their fingerless gloves. Anyone a nail polish fan? What colors interest you? Yes, but I'm very hard on my nails. I like polishes that involve minimum upkeep and can stand getting knocked around. I really liked the Halloween colors at BPTP last year, but I missed them. Halloween decor style? All of it. The more classical/Romantic stuff may stay up all year. Really love retro stuff too, as well as anything in candy corn patterns. Love candy corn, although I'm doing my best not to EAT any of it! Candles/Wax Melts? Yes, use them often, especially in the kitchen. I managed to break my tart warmer/oil burner, however. I've been meaning to get a new one for ages.

    Fall 2011 SW Questions!

Answered some of these in-thread, but I thought I'd move the rest here. Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents? I don't usually do incense. Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you? Yes! Gryffindor, usually. If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from? Barnes & Noble, Sockdreams, pretty much anywhere. Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? "The Seven Swans" was a favorite fairytale. I love ghost stories; Ruth Ann Musick's collection Coffin Hollow remains one of my favorite books. Would you be interested in homemade edibles that are NOT sweets? Any specifics? Nuts are great! I'm not sure what other things would ship well, but anyway . . . Yes! What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying? This has already happened to me. Antique Lace has always been one of my top scents--seriously, I've worn it to weddings, even funerals. Hesperides and Nuit were also favorites. I have some saved away, but I never got to buy a bottle of Dublin, which was serious love. DeSade, meanwhile, was one of my favorite layering notes. And then they discontinued The Unicorn . . . AAAGH! Right now I'd be sad if they discontinued Bewitched, even though I have a bottle, as it's the first BPAL I ever tried and a special favorite. I'd also miss Dorian, as it smells divine on my boyfriend. I'm hoping Ashlultum comes back, and I may kick myself if I don't get a bottle of Vasilissa. Do you have wishlists for non-BPAL e-tailers? And if so, could you provide a link or a list? Mine should be in my regular Wishlist. Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac? Mac all the way! What is your favorite animal? My dog. And horses. What are you going to be for Halloween? I loved bloodysore's answer to this: "A drunk girl." I'm also working on a Professor McGonagall costume. If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be? (If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.) Something Gothic, maybe? My Edgar Allan Poe necklace is one of my favorite things! How do you feel about nick-knacks? Really depends . . . I don't have a lot of room for them, but I love them anyway. Especially things that are literature-themed, superhero-themed . . . Etc. What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you? Spending time with my family on holidays. Playing in my dad's Fantasy Football league. Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway in the spring and fall. Having a big Halloween party. That kind of thing! Do you like going to the movies? Yes. Closest cineplex is a Marquee, although I love to go to the small downtown theaters and the local drive-in when I can. What are your favorite restaurants? Local places, mostly. As far as chains go, I like Carabba's, Sonic (diet limeade FTW!). Do you play any video games? No time. I almost beat Champions: Return to Arms this summer, then someone saved over my game. Do you like any anime? Don't really follow it, but I'd be open to a good story. Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for? I have a MacBook that looks as if it's been through a small war. I'd love to have a case I could fit inside my messenger bag, so I wouldn't have to carry a separate case for it. I don't have a case for my iPod Nano, either. how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be? I would make high-pitched shrieks of joy that would seriously alarm the dog. How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants? Absolutely! Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above? I'm good on bottle boxes, and I have a rack for roller bottles. I'd love a better imp storage box. I like having them flat so I can see the labels, but the cigar box I use is showing a lot of wear and I need something bigger. I'm open to ideas. Muppets: yea or nay? Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite? All of the above! I like Get Fuzzy and Pearls Before Swine too. Favorite Mythological Creature?: Always loved unicorns as a kid. Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers Yes, I do, although my hair is pretty heavy and thick; fragile hair clips won't survive! I especially love Celtic-themed ones. Expanding on the hair question - does anyone like those flower clips for the hair that are big right now?? Flower clips are big right now?

    Snap-Dragon-Fly

I hadn't looked at the notes in this since it was released; when I tried a sample, I was pretty much a clean slate. I get jam. A big reddish-purple rich jammy jam. On toast. Serious dark toast. I am, in fact, shocked that the notes aren't jam on toast!

    Good gravy . . .

Apparently my browser decided, "NO BPAL FOR YOU!" for a few days there. Well, it probably knows best, as I've got a huge hairy grad assignment coming up and things will just get weirder after that. If you'd like to contact me, feel free to send me an email; while I will be living like a sweetly-scented monk, I'd still like to hear from you!

    Doomblog Part II!

Just in case it helps . . . 10/5/10 Would you like to receive international magazines, even if you don't speak the language it's written in, just to ogle the pictures or for the novelty of it? If yes, what kind of magazines, or what magazines in particular? That could be interesting and fun! No idea, though. would you have interest in any of the new Christmas stuff from Lush? I've tried snowcake samples and am not crazy about it. Not crazy about Bubble Gum flavored lip tint either, but the rest sounds like fun. I love Lush body powder and Noubar soap, too! Oh, witchee-poo... if there was one bottle you could have from the NYCC exclusives, what would it be? Probably Mount Misery--chestnuts, you say?--or Lady (mmm, sweetgrass!). Steeplechase sounds like a fun atmospheric, too. If you were my witchee, would you mind a gift certificate where you'd have to do it old school style and mail it in with your order form? No, that'd be fine! 10/4/10 Anyone like little seasonal decorative wreaths? Like gravevine wreaths embellished with silk flora, etc.? I really like these! My parents used to make gorgeous grapevine wreaths . . . Until the grapevine died. Do any witchees need a Snuggie? No, I'm good. 10/01/10 So, who here loves pomegranates? Are the good as a fruit, a flavoring or just a scent? Love the fruit, love the Burt's Bees lip balm flavor, really enjoyed Bath & Bodyworks Midnight Pomegranate, although I'm set for lotions/creams in that scent. I'm curious about the Pomegranate Patch set, but not enough to buy them; in the past, I haven't gotten BPAL's pom scent to last very long on me. Haunt Update? I thought they closed?! I really liked their Candy Corn lip lust! 9/30/10 Villainess has an update. Anyone wanting anything from it? My boyfriend is crazy about their soaps. I'm curious about Cobwebs and Smashing. how are all the witchees fixed for purses--lunchbags, etc? I like them! Now, I have a question for you. About notes. Which are your favourite ones? Do you have a kind of "note top ten?" Anything that works particularly well on you? Do you have a perfume category (foody, floral, aquatic, musky) that you favour? And are there any notes you have never tried, but think would work well on you? My favorites are plum, lily, ivy, pumpkin, vanilla, some leathers, some sugars (like Dorian, for example). I really, really want something that smells like old books--something papery--but I haven't found one that doesn't bury the paper/pages smell under some other scent, such as lavender or leather. Would you like a sugar skull decorated by your witch? Or do you like sugar skull stuff in general? Absolutely! I think they're awesome! 9/29/10 Is there one scent that is your goto for comfort on a bad stressful day? Like the perfume equivilent of a security blankie? Antique Lace always, always smells good; I can wear it around people who don't care for BPAL, and I can even wear it to church, weddings, etc. Blue Moon is the fragrance I wear when I'm super stressed/upset and need to calm down and go to sleep. Probably the most "security blanket" fragrance I have is actually a Mara Fox Love Potion Perfume: Raven Moon, 2006 vintage. It's just instant calm and happiness. I'd love to have more of this, but it's hard to find these days, in part because bottle/cap issues resulted in spillage. Needless to say, I am not concerned about an ugly/half-empty Raven Moon bottle. I'll take 2006 Raven Moon any way I can get it. What are you going to be for Halloween? Not sure yet. Thought about Daria from MTV, but I don't have the skirt. My boyfriend wants to go as Macbeth/Lady Macbeth. I'm thinking more of Lizzie Borden. 9/25/10 If you could make a scent that represents where you live (or have lived), what would be the ingredients? Blackberries, green grass, woods, lots of ivy. Are you in need of Roller bottles or anything of the like? I'm almost out of roller bottles, and I'd really like some new wand caps. I'm also completely out of sample vials. 9/24/10 Just curious, but if your witch was to make an amigurumi critter (or other plushie) just for you, what would it be? No idea! Would you want a local/tourist item from your witch? Like a t-shirt, mug or shot glass? Sure! Okay, who wants NAlloween and some Vampire Apothecary goodness? I don't follow NA much, but their old "Pharoah's Revenge" scent is one of my favorite of all time. Never tried Vampire Apothecary. Venomous Villains? *goes to Google* Whoa, these exist?? How cool is that? Last Unicorn? Possibly my favorite book. Can still quote passages. Not as crazy about the movie--Mia Farrow, arrgh--but I loved it when I was a kid. Who is your fav Disney Villian/villianess? How about hero/herione? (doesn't have to be specifically Disney though) Villain? Maleficent all the way. Hero/heroine? A bit harder, there . . . Probably Belle and the Beast. 9/23/10 Do you collect stones/rocks? I'm talking like "semi" precious stones, ie moonstone, bloodstone, quartz ect. Are there any that you're looking for at the moment? Are you in need of a stone but don't know which kind? What's your favorite Halloween Music? I like the collection Rob Zombie put together (Halloween Hootenanny). The Ramones have GREAT Halloween songs (Texas Chainsaw Massacree!). I also love the retro stuff, including a collection I found on iTunes of really, really old songs from the 30s, such as "Skeleton in the Closet" and "Tain't No Sin To Take Off Your Skin (and Dance Around in Your Bones"). 9/22/10 Do you have a deviantart print wishlist or favourites list? No, sorry. Just never had the time to do that. Is there anything from Blooddrop that you want to try? GC? Halloween update? I haven't tried much Blooddrop. I'd be interested in 8:30 a.m., Apples & Bones, Casting a Spell, Exorcism, Hearing Voices, Incantation, Jill-o-Lantern, Raising the Dead, Sinister. From the GC list, I'm curious about Broomstick, Pumpkin, White Pumpkin. I've never tried any of their products except the oils. What kind of shoes do you need/want? What size shoes do you wear? Would you mind gently used shoes? I adore shoes. I don't mind gently-used, either--just bought a pair of black leather cowboy boots from the Goodwill! I'm crazy about sandals, especially old-fashioned Aigner leather thong sandals, and Chuck Taylors. I have Chucks in blue, red, Christmas plaid with bells, and Candy-cane striped. I can always use laces for these, and I'd love a pair suitable for Halloween. (I usually wear 5.5-6 for Chucks, and size 8 for most everything else.) I don't generally like high and pointy high heels, but the more-platform style are fine; I just need something a little more substantial to keep my balance. I've been looking for a cool Edwardian-style of shoes or even granny boots for a costume. Do you like paper dolls (new or vintage) or coloring in books? I used to unwind with coloring books when I was in college (don't laugh!) but these days just don't have the time. I like coloring with my nephews, however. I still love my colored pencil and oil pastel sets. Do you like weird scary things as traditionally girly fashion items like heels and handbags? Sure! What song is on heavy rotation for you right now? My "Halloween Hootenanny" CD. Are you coveting any of the NYCC atmospheric sprays? They sound cool, but I generally think the sprays are a bit pricey for me. If you have played before, what are some of the most memorable things you've gotten? What really made you go WOW? If you haven't played, same thing, but not limited to SW. My carousel horse photographs, handmade jewelry and costume pieces, mix CDs of new music, fragrances that I had never tried (or thought impossible to get), toys for my poodle, my Victorian Wonder Woman action figure! 9/21/10 Do you like garlic? Do you REALLY like garlic? Would you want to try some really unusual garlic stuff, like garlic cheese or garlic fudge or garlic chocolate, etc., etc., etc.? Sounds like fun! Not sure about the chocolate, but the cheese and such would be fun. Can I talk to you about the living dead? How do you feel about Zombies? I love vampires, revenants, and occasionally zombie stories, although zombies are more of my boyfriend's thing. We already have All Flesh Must Be Eaten, almost every zombie movie ever made, and the Zombie Survival Handbook. Not crazy about Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. You know how every zombie movie seems to have a zombie in a wedding dress? Wedding zombie is my favorite! 9/20/10 If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? I'd love to try all of it! I don't actually need much soap right now, but I'd like to try the new scents, particularly the Skeleton Key oil. I do have the older oils I need, including Straitjacket, but the new Halloween/late summer stuff looks really good. How many bottles of BPAL do you have? I have a box of "current rotation" oils, a box of "out of season" and backup oils, and a tiny box of TALs. I also have a swapbox, but as those are on their way out the door, they don't count, right? I also keep a collection of empty bottles, especially the literary ones--my Poe stories is almost complete! Is there any exercise program that you're interesting in learning? Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Belly Dancing, Zumba ect? Or if you do any of these (or anything else sport related) are there any things you need/want? Candles, music, mats, water bottles ect? I used to do tai chi, something I'd like to go back and learn more about eventually. My exercise routine is usually more vigorous and pedestrian: elliptical, weight machines, go home. I love listening to my iPod while I work out, however, and reading magazines. Funny towels or water bottles are always welcome. Anyone else into Emily Autumn? No, but she's been recommended to me. Feel free to fix my ignorance! What's on your walls? Please show us up to three paintings/posters/whatever. A series of old-fashioned carousel photographs, a Wonder Woman poster, a Dore engraving from "The Raven." If you love a painting so much that you would steal (to watch it with your greedy eyes) one, please share. Raphael's St. George and the Dragon. It's like a perfect, brilliant little jewel. do you like Girl Scout cookies? What kind? Thin Mints! What's your take on homemade apple butter? Want some? Love it. Very homey. Probably don't need it--trying to avoid the sugar/bread business.

    GINORMOUS SW BLOG O'DOOM

9/19/10 Do you read/like fantasy? What kind of books or authors do you love? Which one would you like to read? Would you like gifts related to it? I'm not crazy about epic, Tolkienesque series (although I loved Tolkien, and I had a middle-school love affair with the Dragonlance Chronicles). I prefer a contemporary spin on my fantasy. I do play Changeling: The Lost, and costume items/jewelry is definitely appreciated. Soaps : do you like them? What brands? What scents? Anything you're dying to try? I love Arcana's stuff, and my boyfriend is crazy about Villainess (although I usually prefer the Gingersnapped scrub). Samples are always great, too! 9/18/10 Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? I do! I like all kinds, from headbands to barrettes (especially Celtic-themed barrettes). My hair is thicker than it looks, so anything too flimsy won't survive the wear and tear. Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? Artistic nudes are fine, but I would be uncomfortable with anything too openly pornographic. At least for the walls. In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? I don't need slippers or neck warmers, but I love wrist warmers, fingerless gloves, and could even use hats for costuming. How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? Fine! Is there anything you want from the Violette Market update? That update was huge! I haven't tried a lot from Violette Market, and I don't feel as if the samples I did try were really a representative sample. I'd love to try some of the foodie Halloween/Diablo scents, even in decants or testers, and I'm most intrigued by Raven's Midnight Pumpkin Patch. What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) The mountains are my home, but if I could I'd spend a LOT more time by the beach. What do you wish you could make/craft if you had the know-how and supplies? Specifically, which particular items? I'd love a corset, a cloak, other costume pieces like that. Is there anything you would like from Conjure Oils general catalogue or the new updates that isn't already on your wishlist? I've never tried them, but I'm open for recommendations! Am I alone in this, or is there a Book Fair/Comic Con scent you're dying to get your paws on, too? I wouldn't mind trying Sybil Anyone need address/phone type books? No, I have one already, and I usually use the computer these days. 9/17/10 Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd’s that you’ve been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? Used is always fine. I've been wanting to get The Wire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Muppet Show, the first seasons of Sesame Street, the boxed Frankenstein and Dracula sets from Universal, and The Justice League animated series. Is there anything from the Possets' Hallowe'en update you're lusting after? Oh yes! I did find a decant circle to try most of the ones I wanted, but I am hoping for a bottle of Infernal BBQ Sauce and a tester of Wraith, which I missed. Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Sure! Sounds like fun! Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? I don't think I've tried them. Which web comics do you enjoy? Hark! A Vagrant, The New Adventures of Queen Victoria, Weregeek and The Order of the Stick (haven't followed most of these in a long time). 9/16/10 If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? I like the longer, wider ones. Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? I love shawls! How do you feel about recipes? I love getting them! What kind of a cook/baker are you? A very, very basic one . . . I'm more likely to grill something, to do meats/vegetables, than I am to do baking. Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine, Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? I'd really prefer to eat out, but I also like to cook at home with the family. If I send you something home made would you like the reciepe for it? If you are someone who doesn't want baked goods sent, would you like a collection of some of my favorite recipes? Yes to both! How about home made mixes or kits? Kind of like the cookie in a jar thing, where you would need to add the perishable ingredients? These are generally things I shouldn't do on the diet, but I think they're neat. if you are a tea lover, what are your flavor preferences? Green? Black? Herbal (I know, technically those are NOT teas, but tisanes)? Flavored blacks/greens? I'm not much of a tea drinker, but sometimes I appreciate a variety of different flavors. 9/15/10 How do you feek about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? Sure, that's great! Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? See my Amazon wishlist. Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favourite? Would you like to receive managas or anything related to them? Never really got into them. Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Absolutely! If you have something on a wishlist that we could craft INSTEAD of buying, though it might not end up identical to the wishlist thing, would it be okay to craft it instead? Obviously we don't want to copy anyone else's design, but if we can replicate the flavour or intent that you like without stepping on toes? Yes, that's great. OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? Any length, from ankle to knee. All materials, any patterns. How do people feel about word magnets I already have a set on the fridge. If you could have any costume, or if you aren't into costumes, necklace or other accessory, from any movie character, what would it be? I'd like access to the wardrobe used in The Tudors, please. How do you feel about samples/decants of things other than BPAL? Soap slices, lotion/scrub/shower gel decants, single use make-up/beauty products, etc. Just great! What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Or do you just plan on ordering individual items? I ordered both shirts for myself. 9/14/10 Chocolate or other types of candy? Dark chocolate is great! For tea drinkers, do you prefer loose leaf or tea bags? Bags. Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? A grater for whole nutmeg. Odd, I know, but there it is. Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? Both, and unedited. If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? Red roses, apple trees, dogwood, irises. Grapevines, tomato leaves, ivy, pumpkins. Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.--Albert Einstein Since then, I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.--Ray Bradbury What is a bpal scent that you've been dying to try for awhile but just can't find? (A scent where even a tester would do) Voodoo Queen, Pumpkin King, Dead Man's Hand Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that Sounds like fun! NaNoWriMo? Been trying to do this for a while, but can't break the 36,000-word barrier! With grad school requirements this November, it doesn't look likely either . . . But I want to try, try again! 9/13/10 what interests you from the latest lab update? For Halloween? I'm trying almost everything! So far, however, the one I've most enjoyed is Calaveras. Verdict is still out on the others . . . How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? Crazy about this stuff. Usually classic/contemporary, unless it's for Halloween! Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam?) That would be great. If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? Completely! Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? Making it is perfectly fine. Who is your favorite soap etailer? Arcana, then Villainess. What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? Yes! With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? Either way is fine with me! Do you crave many Ecards and contact or are you okay with little contact from your Witch? I like to hear from my witch every once in a while (every week or so, maybe?). Do you have a place where you list all the BPAL you have or have tried? No, but if it's a GC and it's not on my wishlist, that means I've tried it. Do you like maple sugar candy? Yes, but I really shouldn't! What is your position on the chocolate & bacon flavor combination? I do not like this, although my boyfriend is crazy about it. If you are a tea-drinker do you need a tea-cozie for your pot? I probably wouldn't use that. Go to your spice cabinet, what are the three most used spices? Cinnamon, nutmeg, hot pepper Microsoft or Apple? Apple all the way. Where was your last vacation? What did you like most? St. Augustine, Florida. The pool was right outside the condo, and I was in it every day, sometimes twice. Would you appreciate receiving handwritten letters and/or postcards (anonymous or not)? How about sending them? I love getting mail. Do you hate any food things with a passion?? Umm . . . Octopus? Oh, and cooked beets. Would you be opposed to receiving a digital version (via email) of a magazine you like but don't subscribe to...you know, in the interest of saving a tree? Yes, although usually I like magazines to read at the Y when I'm working out, which is a little harder with a digital copy. 9/12/10 If you reject this assignment, maybe just tell us what your mp3 player says you listen to a lot? Gaelic Storm, Brother, Corvus Corax, Kerli (?!?), Kings of Leon Any countries you're interested in? England, Ireland, France, Italy, Rome . . . These are definitely on my "bucket list." Would you enjoy homemade bath products (bath salts, fizzies, etc.) and/or linen sprays? Esp. if scented with some of your favorite BPAL scents? Sure! If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? Absolutely! Are you a foodie? I love trying different things! My boyfriend is a follower of the Holy Alton Brown, so he's really more of a cook than me. But I'm definitely along for the adventure. Any sports fans in the house? What's your favorite sport/team/player? Whoever is on my Fantasy Football team this year. (Oh Peyton Manning, I love you so!) For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? I decorate for fall, Halloween, and Christmas. I really like decorating. Really, I decorate different rooms in different ways; the living room is usually more Gothic/"nice," the kitchen more campy ("haunted house" curtains, bloody handprints on the refrigerator, etc.). Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? Yes, definitely. 9/11/10 Cake truffles? If YES! Cake/icing/chocolate type? Sure! Chocolate is always nice . . . What do you think would be good? are you interested in mini bottles(under 100ml for hand luggage) of bath and body products? Sure! Vampire shows, literature, etc? Yay or nay? Yay. Definitely yay. I've liked vampires since I was a kid, and I do play White Wolf vampire-themed games, too. If you play console video games, what game systems do you have and what games would you love to have? I have a Wii and a PS3. I don't play much, but I do enjoy Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Yay, Rock Band Beatles! How do you all feel about flowers and plants? Flower and plant seeds The groundhogs killed a lot of mine this summer, but I like trying! Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? They make me happy. If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Lump of Coal, Anne Beaney, Pumpkin King (Hey, if we're getting all crazy, I never tried Voodoo Queen, either.) No sensitivities. For colors, black, green, blue, purple . . . Well, almost anything, really. Gift Certificate: physical or email? Either is fine by me. Favorite Yankee Candles? And if so, what animal? That sounds very cool . . . But I have no idea! What places to do you visit that you'd like a gift card to? Starbucks, Target, Wal-Mart, B&N, a favorite restaurant or clothing shop? Barnes & Noble, Carabbas, Panera, Red Lobster . . . That's all I can think of for chains, really. Cake or Frosting? Both. Will you be going out of town during the round, or is there any other time during the round when it would not be ideal for you to receive a package from your witch? From Sept 23-27, I will be in New Orleans for a conference. Then, at the very end of the round, I will be in Louisville Kentucky from November 12 to November 21 for graduate school. If you are in school now, what classes are you taking? Does anything you are currently studying really interest you? (if you are not in school, is there anything you are trying to learn?) I'm in an MFA program for Creative Writing. Creative writing and literature, particularly Romantic literature and Renaissance drama. What animal would your daemon be? Alternately, your patronus. Probably a dog or a horse. Steampunk, yay or nay? If yay, what part appeals most? Sometimes. Probably the style. I'm less into flying airships, more into the supernatural meets the late Victorian era . . . Basically, Bram Stoker's Dracula is really more my speed. 9/8/10 Do you need a box for your bpal bottles? Your imps? Your something else to put in a box stuff? I'm good for BPAL bottles, but if I could have a better imp solution I'd be all for it. I *like* seeing the labels, but I need something to hold them in place. And I have a *lot* of imps . . . In the end, boxes are grand. If you could be any person, being, or animal from Fantasy what or who would you be? A mage of some kind. Depends on the system. Does that answer make me too geeky?? Favorite Halloween Candy/Treat? Caramel apples and candy corn! What are your favorite baked goods/homemade treats? Cookies, esp. with chocolate. One of my favorites is Hell's Belle from BPTP, although it's pricey. Soft/plushy things: Love them! What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? Nothing right now. For those who decorate for Halloween, do you prefer cute decorations or creepy ones?: Both! Also, as part of the cute-or-creepy question, would you want hand made, molded, glazed (by yours truly!) ceramic decorations (napkin rings, potporri/tart warmers, etc) to add to your stock? Sure! how do you feel about mortars and pestles? I wouldn't mind having one. Is there anything you have a phobia of, or that would make you go "squick" if you saw it in a package? I don't like candy severed fingers. I'm just not putting a gummy finger anywhere near my mouth. Ironically, brains and other parts are probably fine. Also, bugs. Gaaahhhh. 9/4/10 Are you into Austen's books? I am, although not fanatically so. I consider her work to be some of the finest I've read, and I found myself skipping all the martial-arts zombie-action in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies just to get back to the *real* drama. Do you read Tarot cards? If not, would you be interested? I do. I prefer decks that aren't too modern-looking. So for those of you who are into Harry Potter at all, which house do you think you'd be sorted into? Probably Gryffindor. I'm not subtle enough for anything else. What, if anything, is your guilty TV watching pleasure? Definitely True Blood. Also enjoy The Mentalist. If you cosplay or need a costume for your bellydance/burlesque hobby (or any other hobby which needs dressup/different from your normal wear), is there anything you need/want for it? I've been looking for cute hats for one character, particularly hats I can wear with old-fashioned black veils. I can always use gloves, retro-sunglasses, barrettes, necklaces, earrings . . . If so, do you need any new jewelry, o-rings, plugs, etc (and if so, what size, length, etc)? Do you like pro-body mod stickers? No, I haven't even pierced my ears. Booze. Girlyness level? That's hard to answer . . . While my bedroom is full of girliness--rose bookends, carousel horses, etc.--my study looks as if it were decorated by a twelve-year-old boy who likes Wonder Woman, horror movies, and the Ramones. 9/02/10 Baked goods: Anything really special would always be welcome. I can also share with my family, which is very nice. Gifts for other household members: Sure! My dogs and the kitten love presents. We can share candy/baked goods, and my boyfriend actually likes trying fragrances with me. He is also a fiend for Villainess soaps. Are you someone who'd rather have lots of small testers of different things on your wishlist, or would you rather have one or two "big" things? I LOVE testers. I have an imp wishlist that includes every scent needed to test my way through the general catalogue, and the "Bottles" list includes things that I would appreciate in larger sizes. (But I'll take samples of even those--I consider them "travel sizes" ) social networking usernames, ie twitter, facebook, livejournal, ravelry, anything else: I don't twitter. I am on Facebook by my real name, and I'm mountainwitch on livejournal. would you like to receive Groupons or similar deals/gift certificates from your Witch? Never heard of groupons . . . Sounds like fish! Coupons/gift certificates/etc. are all great.

    Leather

Nanny Ashtoreth, one of the Good Omens scents in the Gaiman category, is one of the leatheriest leathers I have ever smelled. It lists other notes too: Middle Eastern flowers, amber, honey, blood red-berries, whip leather, and polished paddle wood. But I get mostly glossy black whip-leather. Whip has a similar kind of leather, at least to my nose, but it also has a very powerful rose. If Snake Oil makes you happy, you might give Western Diamondback a try; I really liked this one, especially after it aged a bit. Others that are harder to find include De Sade, sadly discontinued; Quincey Morris, a very cool old LE; A Bachelor's Dog, which was an April Fool's Day Salon scent; and C. Auguste Dupin, which I remember as a rich, buttery-armchair kind of leather, if that makes sense. I haven't tried all the riders yet, but I was also very impressed by Red Rider. I'm looking forward to giving this one a longer try-out period. Why yes, I like leather too--can you tell?

    Loli.Goth

Wet, this reminds me of melons--lightly fruity, sweet in a restrained way. (Glad to see Ellebelle mentioned this too, or I’d think I was losing my mind.) As it tries the sweet strawberry emerges, and I can get just a hint of peach--but it still hits me as something like melons, like a bowl of chilled chunks of honeydew and sliced strawberries. Not for me, but different and lovely.

    Gothabilly

In the vial, this was pure WHOA NELLY CHERRY CHAPSTICK! On my skin, it seems to take a deep breath, stretch out, and relax into a dark vanilla muskiness colored with fruity sweetness. Wow. Other etailers I’ve tried always leave me cold with their cherry blends, but this is really pleasant, really attractive, and not ChapStick or air-freshener at all. I agree with the comment that it’s reminiscent of Velvet Unicorn, but Gothabilly is darker, the kind of thing you could wear while watching the fireflies on a warm summer night. Wow.
