  1. For Canada I usually expect a delay of about 2 weeks after my Click n'Ship, so 5 days to Germany seems really fast to me. Could it be that this package was caught up in a random customs search whereas your previous ones have gone through uninspected?

    Thirteen (13): May 2011

This might become my go-to scent this summer! I definitely got the citrusy thing most people seem to be experiencing, but instead of herbal I think I'd describe the scent more as... I don't know... seasoned? I usually associate herbal with a more astringent scent, while this one is sweet, with some sexy spice. My cocoa didn't disappear so much as hang out in the background, like the wall the other parts of the scent were hanging on. It actually smells to me a bit like a lighter, fresher, summery-er Snake Oil: when I put on my sweater at the end of the day, I definitely got a Snake Oil feel from the oil that had been clinging to my collar all day. Basically: total win!

    Hochelaga

Maybe it's because I'm Quebecoise and so I was just expecting/hoping to find a personal connection with this oil, but I've worn it three days now, and it's been amazing and evocative every time. The leather and herbs are soft and natural, and I get this really familiar scent of blue & purple wildflowers. It reminds me of being a kid in summer and walking alongside the railroad tracks toward a lake we used to visit.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I use plastic stir sticks/straws, you can get them in the coffee section of the supermarket for about $0.99 per pack of 100. Just dip one end in slightly (very slightly, as the straw bits really suck up oil) and then apply wherever you want. You can even snip off the used part of the stick and reuse the rest later, if you remember to do it before losing track of which end had the oil on it. I've been a BPALer for a year and I'm only on my second package of sticks.

    The Sea Foams Milk

I've had this imp since December, but I've been out of testing mode and just sticking to favourites lately. Now that it's spring and my 1 year BPALiversary's coming up, I felt the old adventurous spirit rekindling, so I pulled this one out and gave it a whirl. And immediately added a bottle to my next order. Wow. I tend to stay away from aquatics, because they have the unfortunate tendency to turn to rancid grape Kool-Aid on me and amp like Megadeth. It's been my one big BPAL disappointment, because I love the descriptions of all the aquatics, but ever since Cthulhu in my very first order, they've been total fail on my skin. Until now! This one seems to be the exception. In the first few moments, it seems to start the usual routine of grapey fail, but then the milk does a bit of magic and all of a sudden it's this creamy, fresh, completely unintrusive scent. I'm usually a bit paranoid about wearing scents to the office, but after testing this one last night, I went right ahead and slathered it on this morning without fear of overwhelming anyone, and it's been perfect all day. I've finally found an understated scent for work! Yay!

    Ü Mütter Museum

When I first opened the bottle, I smelled paper - sweet and sort of bready paper, a bit reminiscent of communion wafers. Peripheral to that, a bit of leather and dust. Wet on me, it gets even sweeter. The balsams come out to play, and as it dries, the play of balsam and leather is occasionally really pretty, but it switches back and forth between that and a sweet scent that is familiar and not that pleasant. I figured out yesterday what that familiar scent is: paper jams. It smells almost exactly like hot paper and printer toner to me: the gluey scent of slightly toasted paper, the dusty sweetness of loose toner... Yeah, that's exactly it. Maybe the next time I try U, I won't be so put off now that I've identified what it reminds me of. Or maybe the reason I didn't find it pleasant in the first place is that paper jams are a rather unpleasant thing. We shall see.

    Further Witchy Stuffs!

Hello, my darling Witch! Thanks so much for the birthday present! It was the perfect thing! Especially because I got a trip for my birthday this year and was away from home on the day. So while it was a really nice time, and very special, yours was my only actual prezzie so far! I used it today to put towards a sundial ring pendant. So excited to receive it! <3 Here are some more answers to questions I found on the thread: Do you have a favorite quotation? Song lyric? Book passage? I adore Steve Martin's writing. His books are full of poignant quotes that ring so true to me. My favourite is The Pleasure of My Company, but I also love Shopgirl and his plays. I think he has a new novel I haven't read yet, called An Object of Beauty. His nonfiction is also good, but nowhere near as amazing as his fiction. I will be back with a selection of quotes of his that I love, because I simply can't just rattle one off and be done with it. If you have something on a wishlist that we could craft INSTEAD of buying, though it might not end up identical to the wishlist thing, would it be okay to craft it instead? Of course! I love handmade and unique things How do people feel about word magnets? I share a fridge, and it's usually pretty cluttered, so no. How do you feel about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? I like it, as long as there's some thought put into it Do you read mangas/watch animes? Nope, I am pretty western centric. Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Totally, I love surprises! Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? An Object of Beauty or Pure Drivel by Steve Martin. OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? No higher than mid-calf, otherwise they will roll and fall. Apart from that I am pretty much open to anything. I cute socks, they make me gleeful Chocolate or other types of candy? I'm lukewarm on chocolate. It's tasty, but a little goes a long way. I'm a fan of weird candy. If it squirts or sprays or comes with an applicator or is motorized in any way, I probably want it. I also loooove salt water taffy If you would enjoy something of a knitted persuasion, do you have a preference on type of thing? Since making a scarf for someone who has 10 might be a smidge excessive? Also, how do people feel about shawls? I like scarves, shawls, mittens, wristwarmers, tiny skinny scarves that could potentially be worn as necklaces... you really can't have too many scarves. This question is not computing Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? People seem to think I'd be compatible with Dwight Schrute from the Office. Personally, I see a lot of similarity between me and Spike from Buffy (for real-life reasons too intimate and embarrassing to go into). I *wish* I was more like Landry from Friday Night Lights. He is so fundamentally okay with who he is. You can't buy that kind of confidence, and it is very unusual to find it in a nerdy character. Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, ect? This question cracks me up. With my mom's stuff here as well as my own, I've got two of everything! No, thanks Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? I used to be more of a live recording/bootleg girl and have recently gotten way more into studio recordings. As to the other question, I prefer explicit. As explicit as possible! Peaches discography, no problem If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? My cat Cosmo is a black American shorthair and very large (about 20 lbs, tall and long and beefy). I like honeybees and bumblebees, and squid and octopi. They speak to me Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? I love lotuses (have a lotus tattoo) and poppies. I love poppies in art and design! What is a bpal scent that you've been dying to try for awhile but just can't find? (A scent where even a tester would do) Glowing Vulva, just to see if it's worth hunting down more than a drop! And now after seeing Darren Aronofsky's movie with the same name and falling into deep and disturbing love with it, I'm desperate to try Black Swan from the retail Salons. Stuff for my kids: I have none. Is there anything you would like that can be delivered over the internet? Things like fanfic recs, cat macros, mp3s you are looking for, how-to or amusing videos, things like that. I would love some fanfic recs for really long Buffy fics! I've been working my way through the archive sites, but I'm sure there's a ton more I haven't read. I love gen and will also read any pairing but Bangel. Oh, and here's something really specific you might be able to help me with: I adore Bob Ross - yes, the Joy of Painting guy. I like to watch whole episodes on youtube, it's very relaxing! But youtube takes the stuff down all the time! I'd love to get a line on a different place to download or watch the episodes. What would your last meal be if it could be anything in the world (sky is the limit, drinks too, the whole shebang) Sushi, a very wide and exciting variety. And a huge taro bubble tea with lychee jelly. Mmmmm! NaNoWriMo? I've done it a few times and even finished once! Lately I'm far more interested in screenwriting, though.

    Common Jezebel

Witness me making goggle eyes at the notes of this one. Bzuh? I would have only guessed the vetiver. In the vial, wet, and dry, this is pure Peaches & Cream oatmeal on me. Granted, Peaches & Cream oatmeal with a very pleasant, soft earthy base from the vetiver, but really: Peaches & Cream oatmeal. So weird. No red currant, no lemon. The coconut is probably what's giving it that creamy feel, but honestly the smell is such an accurate replica that it's hard for me to even get analytical about it. Objectively, it's a soft, creamy, lovely scent. Subjectively, it smells almost exactly like I spilled my breakfast up my sleeve. And it's making me verrry hungry. Verdict: this is almost too familiar for comfort (I guess I eat a lot of oatmeal?) so I'm not going to nab a bottle, although I did seriously consider it.
  9. I got #691. In the bottle, I get a rich, round vanilla and a bit of soft chocolate. This may or may not be the kind of foody that I'm not crazy about. Wet, the chocolate is barely detectable. Excellent. It's more of an impression of chocolate, really. I also suddenly notice myrrh, which you'd think I would have noticed in the bottle! Dry-down: There's this slow back-and-forth between soft smokiness and a kind of heady sweetness. Wow. Chocolate is all gone at this stage - I'm not entirely convinced it was ever there. Possibly my nose was just very confused when sniffing the bottle. Dry: Fades to a sweet, smoky, resinous vanilla. Not at all overwhelming or foody. It's kind of amazing, actually. *clings to bottle* ETA: I left for dinner and couldn't update, and it was on my mind all night to edit this post! Right when I left, so about 45 minutes to an hour into wearing this, it morphed and this GORGEOUS worn leather note came forward. Vanilla, myrrh and leather - nothing I would have sought out on my own, and it's breathtaking! I would not give this bottle up for anything!
  10. #202 I bought this off a forumite who described it as a soft, watery floral. In the bottle, it's a pleasant, soft floral. I smell water lily and lotus. The first time I wore it, 1-2 weeks ago, the amber never showed itself - the scent was pleasant, but never morphed beyond the initial bottle scent and reminded me more of a soft, flowery lotion than a perfume. I considered scenting a bit of lotion with it and set it aside to try again later. I'm so glad I didn't just dump it in some lotion! Tried it again yesterday - it's still a soft, wet floral in the bottle with no trace of amber, but when I put it on this time, the amber sidled up, all glowy behind the flowers, and was all, "Hey, remember Bastet? Yeah, this is the pond I drowned her in." That's what I get now: just enough interplay of the lotus note with amber to remind me a bit of Bastet, with this gorgeous watery lily scent. I couldn't believe how much I liked it; I just kept sniffing all evening! And now I'm thinking, if it's changed this much in just a week or two, how's it going to smell in six months?

    Banned in Boston

Wow, salty leather, sweat and booze. It was a little much when I first put it on, but once the strong salty-sweaty note settled down on my wrist, it became all sweet tobacco, leather, booze and sex. I think I like! Possibly enough for a full bottle, definitely enough to use up my imp wearing this very naughty scent to all kinds of inappropriate places

    Boomslang

Dear Boomslang, Everyone knows you smell divine. Personally, my favourite bit of you is when the sweetness of rice milk starts peeking through the cocoa/Snake Oily goodness. You make me melt, and that's no small feat! But the absolute best part of you is your staying power. Remember when we went to that concert the other night, and got drenched in sweat, and then rain, and then sweat again (ours and other people's, probably). Remember how through all of that you were right there with me rocking out, and you drove me home afterwards? You're a gentleman, Boomslang. Never change
  13. #151 In the bottle: clove. Lots and lots of clove. Also picked up hints of pine and something that reminded me of fruitcake - molasses, maybe, or some kind of sweet spice. Frankincense is very faint, but present. Wet: 100% clove. Dry-down: clove, amped to an overwhelming degree by my skin. All the other notes have disappeared. At this point, the clove scent is so strong that I'm having flashbacks to having to use oil of cloves to euthanize a sick pet fish a while back. Unpleasant associations are not helping this scent. Dry: It took about an hour for the clove note to settle down, but now that it has, I'm actually enjoying this. It's still clove in the forefront, but it's kind of comforting now instead of clinically offensive. I'm also picking up the frankincense and the sweet slightly foody note I smelled in the bottle. Verdict: actually turned out quite nice, but I don't think I have the patience to wait an hour smelling like fish-death to get to "nice". I'm willing to give it another test or two to see if it settles down a bit, but if not, it's swaps for you, buster! Edit: Tried it again tonight (5 days later) and it took a bit less time to settle down into a pleasant (but still quite potent!) spicy clove-frankincense-(maybe pine?)-gingerbread scent. Now I'm thinking of hanging onto it until the holidays, because wow. Very, very Xmas-y, and with the added bonus of being highly economical - a single small drop will get the job done with this one
