Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

51 came to mind immediately. Luminescent, glowing, and otherworldly: green mandarin, neroli, honeydew, white amber, guava, freesia, white and green musks hovering over desert scrub, smashed wood, and the dry, biting scent of night air over the Groom Lake salt flats. It starts off as kind of a fruity floral, but dries down to a wonderful sophisticated musk. Don't know how similar 51 actually is to New West, but it does have some notes in common and it is very "melon in the desert" IMO.

    What's the best coconut blend?

I absolutely adore Harigata II. On me it ends up smelling like coconut biscochitos. Warm sweet anise cookies with a hint of coconut. But I really stopped in here to add my experiences with Spooky. Every time I wear it someone tells me how great it smells...just like coconut or suntan lotion. One of my coworkers even told me I smelled like summer. Which I find very strange, because to me it smells like sexy Thin Mints. So if you're looking for that beachy coconut smell, try Spooky.
  3. Hi there! While we do seem to have fairly different tastes I might be able to help based on a quick search I did of this thread. This is what came up when I searched for the scents you liked: Rosalind Baobhan Sith Maiden The Hermit Yemaya Prague Psyche Midnight Whitechapel Bordello Amsterdam The Lady of Shalott Ulalume Windward Passage Dragon's Eye Squirting Cucumber Lightning Endymion And I'll throw in 51, Belladonna, Undertow and Absinthe based on personal experience. Also, here are a few recommendation threads which might help you find similar scents: Watery or aquatic florals "Soapy" scents Herbal scents Green scents And a whole thread of recommendations for those who love Snake Oil Hope some of this helps!

Pears - different BPAL pear scents

I absolutely adore pear scents! I strongly recommend the Perilous Parlor. On me it's more of a spiced vanilla pear and it's fantastic. I don't get any pear whatsoever from Symmakhia, but it's lovely regardless. However, my personal favorite is Marotte. It's a wonderful, sweet, golden, musky pear.

    Delirium

This smelled so good in the imp I had to try it right away. Sweet, fruity with a hint of something tart. So I put it on without looking at the notes. Big mistake. As is usually the case, rose completely kills this one for me. All of the loveliness from the imp is gone and replaced by the sour, mashed rose petal scent I know and fear. No apple, no lemon, just headache inducing rosey doom. *sigh* Why do roses hate me?

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I got a bottle of Dark Kiss lotion the other day and when I opened it to sniff it got all over the place. I also happened to be wearing Dorian at the time. And I swear Dark Kiss is Dorian + red fruit. Probably sounds a little strange, but my mother agreed. They are remarkably similar, and even though Dark Kiss is fruitier, I'd recommend having your friend try some Dorian.

    Daffodils, Narcissus, Paperwhites... and Hyacinth

Have you tried Darkness? The opium and myrrh make it a little heavier but the narcissus comes through beautifully, especially with some aging. It's one of my first loves.

But Men Loved Darkness Rather Than Light

I might be losing my mind but to me this is a dead ringer for The Masque. The only notes they have in common are patchouli and clove, and that is definitely not what I'm smelling. Both give me the impression of a big lush red flower of some type. But Men Loved Darkness is not quite as sweet, but to my nose it's very similar to The Masque...which makes me very very happy.

    Velvet Pink Kitty

I've tested this a couple times now and it just confuses me. In the imp it's lovely boozy strawberries with a hint of juniper. The second it touches my skin all I smell is strawberry banana. Strong strawberry banana. For hours. No candy. No gin. No cream. Where did the banana come from? I don't get it.

    Leather

You might try Hellfire - A swirl of pipe tobacco, hot leather, ambergris, dark musk and the lingering incense smoke from their Black Mass. It doesn't have any vanilla in it but the pipe tobacco sweetens the blend nicely and ambergris can be nice and salty on some people.

    Coffee notes?

You might try El Dia de los Reyes - Hot cocoa with cinnamon, coffee, and brown sugar. It's one of the current Yules. I didn't get a whole lot of coffee from it but I'm starting to think my skin eats coffee notes. Misk U goes to pure sweet dust on me.

    The Fainting Couch Atmosphere Spray

I first got to try this in a squirt I received with an ebay order about a year ago. I was instantly in love. It literally smelled like some musty Victorian parlour, years of floral sachets, and dusty couch cushions. The floral notes were really light and I got mostly old fabric and the impression of dried flowers. Needless to say I was thrilled when this was released. However, I've found the release version to be much more floral. I never detected anything more than a hint of rose in the squirt, but my full size is VERY rosey. To me it's less a Victorian parlour and more a Victorian powder room. If I spray, let it dry and sniff very closely I can catch hints of the musty velvet couch smell that I loved so dearly. It's still lovely, but not exactly what I was expecting.

Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self Similarity v4

Eeek! My first review! CXVI Very full bottle, almost too full. In the bottle I don't detect even the slightest hint of Snake Oil, just something vaguely herbal/spicy. On my skin: I wish I knew exactly what this is, but I don't. It smells like some kind of sweet herb or spice. Reminds me of a flavor of spice drops or Necco wafers. It's really familiar but I just can't place it. Something like a cross between black licorice and root beer, and it's STRONG and it lasts forever. And either this herb/spice completely covers the Snake Oil or it was really light to begin with because it never comes through. Very interesting, but I'm not sure it's really my thing. XCI In the bottle: Ah there's my Snake Oil! With sharp leather (think De Sade) and maybe just a hint of vetiver? On my skin: This blend seems to be pretty heavy on the Snake Oil, but the sharp leather really wants to be up front and in my face. One sniff it's creamy Snake Oil (maybe a little extra vanilla or something? seems a little sweeter and creamier than regular Snake Oil) but the next time it's all strong, biting leather. I'm not sure if this does have any vetiver, because I can't smell it at all on my skin. Again, very interesting, but a little heavy on the leather for my tastes.

Berry Scents - Blackberry, Red Berries

I can pick out the acai in both of the aforementioned blends, but neither works half so well for me as Australian Copperhead does. The acai is more prominent in SPT, but the poppy has a LOT of greenery. It smells very fresh and almost damp (slippery!), which is probably why it doesn't work for me. If you can do green/aquatic blends, you might enjoy it. Daiyu was more chrysanthemum tea with a hint of acai. Hmmm chysanthemum tea with a hint of acai? That sounds...tasty. I'm not really sure about greenery yet...I don't think I've tried many green or aquatic scents. I think I'll track down a couple of imps/decants if I can. Thanks!

Berry Scents - Blackberry, Red Berries

I recently tried Australian Copperhead and I love love love love love it. Apparently I love the way acai berries smell. Unfortunately, there are only 2 other scents available with acai. Does anyone know if the Slippery Poppy Tincture or Daiyu have a similarly bright red berry scent?
