Theoi Nomioi

Recommended Posts

The Theoi Nomioi are the gods and spirits of the wild: the countryside, the pastures, the forests. Under their auspices, untamed nature thrives, the beasts of the wild feast and multiply, the mountains reach to the heavens with their stony, snow-capped fingers, and the forests grow thick and dark with mystery.

Sniff: Crisp, hint of ozone, lush pine forest

Wet: Faint and subtle, more ozone. Definitely mountain air. Clean, dry, with a swirl of rich, wild woods. This leans towards a classic male cologne in the best way possible.

Dry: Ah, the woods become more prominent after time. But it stays crisp and clean, it's a bright woodiness, not like furniture or resin, but fresh and sweet. It's very pleasant and well balanced.

Wet: I feel like I'm standing on a rocky outcropping of an evergreen forest on a bright, clear day with a view of some farmland or something. Brisk and uplifting.

Dry: After a while, this goes slightly sweet, piney men's cologne on me. It's a bit less natural, but I'm not mad about it.

Main notes I'm getting are eucalyptus, pine needles, juniper, sweetgrass. Then the lab's snow note, with a faint hint of cool water (not aquatic per se, more mineralic like river stones) and maybe a touch of moss and soil.

The pine/juniper has a big menthol pop that skews a bit more medicinal than I like (I'll never not think of vaporub, even if it's prettier and more complex than that). The grass note with the snow threatens to turn gloopy and boggy like it does in Sprouting Grass Moon, but it straightens out after a while. The softness of the moss/soil is nice.

It def puts me in mind if Ranger and the like, and I'm glad I got to try it.

Mmm, piney. I think there's some moss and soil/rock notes underneath, but this is mostly piney in my bottle. On this skin this crisps up into clear mountain air with so much pine, maybe some eucalyptus... and then it turns sweet but still sinus-clearing (I might've accidentally dabbed my nose in it). Once the initial waft of pine burns off, I get to see more of the forest and less of the trees. Fresh woody notes and delicate moss take over in the drydown. This is going to be a mainstay in my collection.

This is a holy grail scent for me, if not THE holy grail BPAL for me. The most perfect expression of a pine forest I have ever picked up from BPAL.  This bottle was one of my first purchases when I found out about BPAL in 2019, and I am still in love with it. Nothing compares to this bottle, for me. Nothing. This is truly perfect on my skin, and immediately takes me by the hand and walks me up to the top of the most incredible stone bluff I've ever stood on, surrounded by waving pine trees, just getting hammered by the hot sun, the scent of dusty stone thick on the wind. This one still makes me want to bang my fists against a table just to shout about how perfect it is. If it's not pulled down before the end of '21, I'll get a back up bottle.

True love in a bottle. An unparalleled song of pine and stone and sun, all in just 5mls. *sigh*

When I first smelled this in the bottle I was very hesitant. It just smelled like straight-up juniper mixed with pine needles. It was overwhelming. I'm very happy to report that it transformed into something truly incredible when I actually put it on! On me it became a warm, woody scent filled with coniferous trees. There's a distant hint of something almost smokey like a bonfire with a backdrop of sweetness as if a bit of amber were added to the mix. In short, pine needles, amber, wood, smoke (although it may be too clean to be smoke?), and a touch of juniper.

I know this is marked as "limited edition" but this would be well worth keeping around. Love the cause, love the scent. It's an instant favorite!

A stone bluff in the pine forest surrounded by fresh mountain air. There is a bright crispness to this scent that I don't often associate with forest/woody smells. It definitely reminds me of hiking at altitude among pine trees, but specifically being above the main part of the forest. The breeze here is calm but moving, the stone is a bit sun warmed but not too hot. There are definitely some mineral notes in there from the stone, perhaps a mountain stream not too far away, but nothing notably aquatic, just that water has touched some of this stone, but the air is fairly dry, so not like it was rained on recently.

It's a very evocative scent, really bringing to mind a place, and that's something that I definitely appreciate!
