Incense Chaos Theory Hair Gloss

Recommended Posts

The Winter Time Chaos Theory Lunacy Poll results are in, and they are. INCENSE! Hair gloss, of course!

Each bottle of Chaos Theory will be truly unique, a fragrant fractal, and an exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty!

As always, each bottle will be a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim and mood of the goblins.

I received XVIII (18). Full disclosure; this is my first chaos scent and I don't like incense but I couldn't resist. I smell very light soft incense, gardenia & butterscotch. I also am not a gardenia fan as my stepmom wore Jungle Gardenia all my life and it made me nauseous. All of those prejudgments said, I love this! I keep huffing my hair. My fiancé wants to smell again and again. I can't advise on throw or longevity yet. Of course my long stick straight blonde and gray hair feels glorious. Thank you Puddin and the goblins for this experience.

Got my bottle today... LI (51).... this is tough. I might update this when I actually have it in my hair.

Sniffing from the bottle... yep, there is incense.. but it is real soft. I am detecting something sweet, but it is more a sweet floral...maybe? Not foody or candy sweet in any way. I am real bad at floral notes (if this is what I am detecting) but it seems floral, but then not. WOW this is hard to descrbe.

So....after giving this a squirt... it is so weird. I am still getting that sweet.... SOMETHING.... making me batty. If it existed, I would think this is a soft incense with the cotton candy flower! :) It's the best I can do

I'm going to start with a non-hair very initial review because I just got mine ...

Number 52 (LII) so right after Numanoid!

When I untaped the cap I got a whiff of fruity so was concerned (cherry and I are not friends), yet when I uncapped the bottle just to sniff I did not get fruity AT ALL ... couldn't put my finger on what it was, just a lovely light incense and no other discernable notes.

So I just sprayed a bit on my shoulder to try to get a feel for it ... and I think it's going to drive me crazy because I can't figure out what it is!!!

It is NOT super-duper floral, that much I know (you know, not jasmine or tuberose or whatever) ... yet it's somehow familiar. It's quite light ... the incense is not a deep strong nag champa type of incense (or if it is it is very much in the background) ...

I'm getting a tiny bit of powder which leads me to think there may be some myrrh in here? And definitely something sweet but not candy-sweet ... not cakey baked goods sweet ... and I don't think it's vanilla. So, it could be fruity but it's not a stone fruit ... But it's VERY familiar.

There is a comforting feeling to it ... it has a little outdoorsiness (I know I said it wasn't floral, so I wonder if it could be something like dandelion ...

I think I may actually go down and stick my shoulder in my husband's face and see what he thinks ...

Okay ... the first thing he thought was strawberry and that is a definitely possibility ... would explain my thinking fruity but also explain why I like it (the only fruits that EVER work for me are fig, pink grapefruit and sometimes strawberry). He thinks it's fruity and floral ... but he also said if you blindfolded him and asked him to smell a rose and a lilac he wouldn't be able to tell the difference, so there you go.

But the good news is he kind of likes it ... he is NOT a big perfume fan but he knows what he doesn't like LOL.

Number 50 (L), so right before Numanoid!

This one had little smell in my skin test at first, just the faintest resins, so I've let it sit a couple weeks or something.

It's still quite mild, when first sprayed in my arm, in what appears to be a complete absence of top notes. It's barely there. Resins lurk, though... #50 is resinous. It seems like mainly frankincense and Other Lurking Base Notes on me at first. I smell no champaca or nag champa for the incense. I actually don't smell any incense while this is wet, or even for a while after it first dries. There's not much to it really.

After 15 minutes, it starts to become a warm-toned incense-resin skin scent. Something is adding warmth beyond what these notes usually do on me, but it's just not showing clearly on my skin. Maybe with aging.

On my hair, it starts out a little stronger and prettier: I want to say frankincense incense, with sandalwood or some other wood, and a hint of some spice, like clove? But it's so small. Sometimes I also get a slight impression of buttery golden rum and sometimes of a little sweet vanilla.

This sounds so delicious, but it's all faint, and I might be imagining things. I need to see what this one does with some age. It could become precious.

I received number VI-this smelled like light incense and either gardenia or Lilly of the valley maybe? The incense is very light but cuts the intensity of the floral. I'm not a floral wearer per se and didn't find that this scent was "me". I loved trying it but it is currently off to a new home.

LXI (61, I think? I suck at Roman numerals, lol)

At first it smells like pure Frankincense. Then I think I get maybe a fir note? But not pine. Something woody, but that fades almost instantly. Still mostly Frankincense. It reminds me a bit of All Souls. No...there is something woodsy here! Not sure how I feel about this.

I also got a decant of LXVII (so...67?)

This one is much sweeter, and has Myrrh in it, I think. And fruit? I really like it. I have lots of Myrrh perfume, as well, so this suits me just fine! It kind of smells like....Myrrh and cotton candy. Maybe I'm crazy. Would love to hear what the others in my decant circle think of these! This one wins out of the two for me, for sure.

LXVI:

I really like this one! It's hard to tell what all might be in here, but I think I smell opium and nag champa. Very incense-y, good throw, definitely my thing!

Got decant of LXII (62)

Always hard for me to describe these Chaos blends. Funny what your nose is telling your brain and then trying to translate. :)

This, to me, is a soft incense blend with possibly cassia? When sniffing, I get something cinnamon-like, but it is a watered down kind of cinnamon which I tend to think cassia smells like. Not a strong cinnamon or a baking cinnamon, but yeah... cassia.

It is light and doesn't hang around long. I am also interested what others think of this blend since there are 3 others out there. :)

Mmmm decant of LXIX smells like frankincense heavy incense. It doesn't smell so great in the bottle but it just needs to be freeee and then it is amazing. Holy crap.

Eta: I think I smell sandalwood, too. Gorgeous hg scent!!!

Oh. If anyone doesn't like their decant of LXIV I will help them out :-)

#LXXVI (76)

This one's a head-scratcher for me. It's familiar, but I'm not sure what exactly it is. I know it's not frankincense (or if it does contain frankincense, I assume it's a small quantity). It's dark, sweet, verging on chocolate-y. Maybe not chocolate. Maybe licorice. My quick research leads me to thinking this is myrrh. I'll try to test out some essential oils of resins in the future and figure out what incense is in this.

EDIT: Compared this to an imp of Penitence and they smell similar. #LXXVI is darker, though.

I also have a decant of LXII (62).

However, my impression is quite different than Numanoid's above: I get a strong sweet lemon, like lemon drop candy, followed by a light Nag Champa-like incense. No cinnamon or cassia that I can tell. I'm actually a big spice fan & would have liked that better! I'm not saying this isn't nice, because it is rather fun & uplifting provided you enjoy lemony things.

My other decant is of LXXII (72).

This is a sweet, heady floral that I'm not totally confident identifying but reminds me of a Stargazer lily. It could just as easily be some other flower covered with honey - it's very sweet & slightly tangy. Pretty, but a bit too much for me.

#LXV (65)

I have a decant of this one which I bought along with two others here on the forum. This one is pure frankincense to my nose. I really can't pick out any other notes, it's just a lovely frankincense. Frank is a favorite note of mine so I'm in love! I have a lot of perfumes I'll be able to pair this with. I only wish I had the full bottle!

EDIT: after spending more time with this decant I want to clarify that it is a very clean, almost-a-touch-soapy kind of frankincense. There might be something else there that's adding to the effect. It's not a dark or chewy or smoky type of scent, it's a light and gleaming frankincense.

XVI

Sniffing the bottle, my first impression is bubblegum.

Sprayed on tissue - spicy myrhh, light frankincense, bit of creamy vanilla, something floral? In my hair, it's quite light & I get a whisper of orange creamsicle along with the other notes. This is soft & sweet - very enjoyable but not particularly incensey.
