BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

No 138 West 27th St. Mrs. Lizzie Goodrich, the dashing brunette, whose smiling face is ever ready to welcome her patrons keeps this house. Mrs. Lizzie as she is generally called, has five good-looking lady boarders whose cheerful dispositions tend to drive away the blues. There is a regular physician attached to this house, and every attention is shown to visitors. As a first class house, it is neatly and comfortably fitted up, and is very quiet and orderly.

A merry honeyed carnation dotted with dried ruby fruits.

I was crossing every limb on my body this would work on me since my name is Elizabeth. By some kind of magic it did! Sometimes I amp carnation to the point of it crushing everything else, and red or purple fruits can sometimes go cloying on me, but not this time. What stays at the forefront is honey, honey, golden and glorious honey. Full disclosure: I amp honey. The carnation is not too strong, more like a decorative flower behind the madam's ear, and the fruits add a bit of a tart (see what I did there?) element with a blush of red. First-class house indeed.

I sometimes think that con halls mess with my nose a bit, certain things seem flatter inside, and then more vibrant once I'm outside. Who knows. Just a kind of disclaimer before starting.

In the bottle: Mostly carnation, with a bit of extra sweetness

Wet: so much carnation! spicy sweet carnation! Is there fruit? I don't really get it, nothing I can identify. I'm starting to wonder if I amp carnation (good thing I love carnation)

Dry down (5 minutes): Heavy spicy carnation with a bit of extra sweetness that's not readily definable as honey. Not really any fruit.

Dry down 1-8 hours later: I am sitting in a warm cloud of spicy, sweet, carnation with a touch of something that feels like it's probably the dried fruits. It's so lovely, and it faded in and out of my awareness all day, so real staying power. It blended beautifully in the end, so it became less CARNATION and more sweet-spicy-warm hug of a smell.

Heavy carnation, touch of honey, touch of fruitiness on first whiff. This one is a very heavy carnation scent, but sweeter and more wearable than say HOD. Medium throw and wear length.

For you carnation lovers out there.

It's likely pretty obvious why I am hoping this will be awesome on me....lol. I love carnation, love honey, but could be screwed over depending on what those "ruby fruits" are. Currant would be great. If it's cherry or strawberry, I may have a problem.

Wet: Pretty. Soft carnation (not nearly as strong as in, say, Alice - at least to my nose. The honey is also softer. It's a tad fruity, but I can't place what red fruit, specifically. It's not going plastic though (which lots of fruit frequently do on my skin), instead, I feel like it wants to turn soapy, for some reason. Not terribly, just a faint soapy edge. Hoping it'll settle, and I think it gradually is. It's lighter than I expected, which is nice, as both carnation and honey can amp on me and be IN YOUR FACE!! This isn't though, smells like something I could easily wear to work.

Dry: Thankfully the faint soapy hints disappeared, and this dries down to a lovely, soft, sweet carnation scent. I don't find the carnation to actually be that strong in this, compared to some other scents, the honey and fruit do a nice job of softening it. This is beautiful and simple, and I will really love wearing it.

Miss Lizzie is gorgeous, and my unexpected favorite of the NYCC scents I have tried so far :wub2:

A sweet, creamy, and spicy carnation-forward blend. I actually can't really pick out the honey and red fruits all that well, I think they are just adding to the overall creamy sweetness. And even though it's not listed, I swear there is a soft tobacco note grounding everything together.

To me, this really does evoke the concept; a playful, alluring sweet scent over a tobacco-like base that calls to mind refined Western saloons and boarding houses.

Holy carnation explosion Batman! This is Car-na-tion. I don't get any honey or red fruits. I wanted fruity floral but on me it's just carnation, but kind of dusty powdery carnation as opposed to spicy. If you are a carnation gal you need this!

I saw dried ruby fruits in the description, and didn't expect to like it all that much. This is really good!

It starts out as a sweet honey, soft floral carnation with just a hint of smoke. Then the carnation turns spicy. I feel like there may be cardamom in this as well. The spice isn't overwhelming, just a little extra warmth and oomph than carnation alone. All of the stages are lovely, but it's the late mid to base stages where the magic happens on my skin. I get the most beautiful sweet incense, woodsmoke, warm aroma wafting off of my arm. It's like a smoked honey with a chocolate undertone. I don't know if there's tobacco mixing with the honey to create the incensey smoke, but it is fantastic. Throw is very good, as is wear time.

5 out of 5 stars.
