BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Rose water, black cherry, cream accord, bourbon, and orris root.

In the imp: A cherry blast smoothed out by cream.

Wet on skin: Very cherry, with some almond mixed in. I'm not a huge fan of cherry smells (or flavors), but this isn't bad. I'm still hoping the rosewater kicks in soon, though.

Dried down: Getting more of a rosewater hint now, but this is still mainly cherry on me. It's like the rosewater's trying to fight through the cherry. The longer I wear it, the stronger the rosewater becomes, and the prettier this is.

Throw: Very light, but what I'm getting is very pleasant and sweet.

Verdict: **** The longer I wear this, the more I like it. I think I'm going to go for a bottle, and hope the cherry mellows out more with age.

This should have been perfect for me on paper. The tester I have smells wonderful, like maraschino cherries on whipped cream with the rosewater adding a REALLY nice sweetness to it. However, once it hits my skin, something goes super shrill and powdery on me. It smells like perfumey moisturizer or lotion. Sadness! :(

Wet, I briefly get a glorious black cherry. The same one in gothabilly I think. Doesn't take more than a few seconds, and its all about the rose. Then, its a foody rose. Weird, but it is, its got a touchbof crumble, cookie crust. This reminds me of knave of hearts. I do get the cherry waaay in the background, but its more about the sweet rose with cookie. I love the cherry note, but its just not present enough on me.

In the bottle: tart delicious cherry (no cough syrup here)

Wet: the cherry is very prominent and I love that it's not the cough syrup variety. The cream accord comes out too and it's so lovely! Cream is a note I love to slather on my skin in any scent it makes me happy. Luckily it works very well on me. This is a delicious cherry cream scent.

Drydown: Now is when the rose water peeks out and it's light and lovely as well. It does smell a little like Turkish Delight to me and that is AWESOME! I love that. The throw is not that strong, but the staying power was great, it stayed close and comforting on my skin for quite some time.

Glad I took a chance on this one! :wub2:

The full-flavored zest of life is taken over by the funereal roses and baby powder of the undertaker.

On first sniff, I was immediately intrigued because I always do well with the Lab's cherry scents.

However, the rose amps after several minutes, with a powdery background. All the complexity of the bourbon and cherries has disappeared like a memory. Very sad even..

very appropriate.

Oh my, this is lovely!

In the bottle: It smells like what you wish the center of chocolate covered cherries tasted like. The best combination of candied cherries & cream, with a wee smidge of bourbon.

Wet on skin: The first minute was a whole lotta the most realistic bourbon scent I've ever encountered. That dissipated pretty quickly, leaving a heady rose-cherry-cream booziness. I couldn't find the orris.

Dry: Excellent sugary rose, with a little powder from the orris & the memory of cherry. Maybe a smidge of vanilla?

I feel lucky to have gotten to test VL. It's a standout in the family of BPAL's sugared florals (like Hope & Faith, or Love,) that are super-wearable for me. I will hunt for a bottle of my own.

Wet, Venus Libitina was all about the cherry on me, a big round cherry slightly reminiscent of Chokecherry Honey but not as sweet. Within 20 minutes the rosewater took over and it became a creamy rose scent. Rosewater tends to work better on my skin than almost any rose note, and that holds true here. The rose does threaten to go sour, but the lingering cherry and bourbon notes hold it back. Still, it has become a rose blend; I liked the wet phase better. Then, about 90 minutes in, Venus Libitina truly becomes a thing of beauty. The rosewater reins it in and all the notes are present in equilibrium, even the orris, which I worried about, but which is perfect here. Whereas I very rarely get throw from any scent, I get wafts of the almost foody aspect of VL from a few inches away. Creamy sugary rosy deliciousness. Just lovely!

I reviewed some Lupers in 2015 and neglected to post many of those reviews on the forum. So here's my belated review!

In the decant: The black cherry note is the most prominent, and it smells very realistic to my nose. There is also a bit of sweetness in the background, but I'm not really getting the other notes!

Wet: Black cherry is the dominant note, but I am also getting the rose water now and what I think may be the bourbon (but I'm not sure). Then, the cream accord emerges, and I am mainly getting black cherry, rose water, and cream. As it starts to dry down, the orris root makes its presence known, adding its baby powder-like scent to the mix. I hope it doesn't stomp all over everything.

Dry: Waaaaahhhh! The orris root stomped all over the other notes, and now it is mostly a powdery scent with the cherry, cream, and rose water in the background.

Verdict: Oh, orris, this would have been so good without you, but you and I do not get along.

A cherry opening note, transitioning into a sweet, fluffy, just-this-side-of-foody rose that reminds me a little of Pink Fuzzy Handcuffs. Nice spring scent!
