Eusapia (Yule Prototype)

Recommended Posts

Also previewed here by TTP.

So, I do get a touch of lychee gummy candies that TTP describes, but honestly Eusapia is almost all golden honey powder on my skin. Dusty honey and a touch of lychee. In alot of ways, this reminded me to... I think Honey Moon 2005. Thick, heavy honey and powder/pollen. As it dries, I get more of a herbal undertone, and something that smells like creeping dust.

OOOOKAAAAAAY FOLKS. This has taken a severe left turn into something definitely much more ghostly. And creepy. So, like honey that ghosts and spirits are trapped in and/or like to eat?

In other words, don't eat the honey kids because ITS A TRAP!

So, creepy dusty honey.

Eusapia's a hard one to pin down. On the cool-to-warm spectrum, she's warm; on the heavy-to-light spectrum, she's light; on the fruity-to-floral spectrum, she's all over the place. Sniffed in the vial, I definitely get a pulpy, watery fruitiness - like bamboo? or I can see lychee - and warm but indistinct florals.

When I apply to the skin, I definitely get notes of stock or carnation, or a similarly spicy, old-fashioned flower, dusted with stargazer lily pollen. I think there's a resin component, but it's something light like white sandalwood or a pale frankincense. I think I get a hint of beeswax candles, but it's not the typical Lab honey note, because it's not going sour on my skin.

The longer this wears, the drier and more powdery it goes. In the Wikipedia entry I read that Eusapia Palladino (by all accounts a screaming fake) would conjure "spirit flowers" in her act, so if Beth's intent was a seemingly live bouquet that fades and becomes ghostly as it wears, she's got that in spades. The scent also keeps that somewhat unsettling warmth - like sitting down in an empty chair but feeling the ghostly imprint of someone else's body heat there.

I'll be really interested to compare with the released blend and the notes.

ETA: Wears down to a slightly cloying dusting powder on me. Not a chemistry match.

This is a mix of something very sweet, and faded flowers. In the bottle and wet, the sweet vaguely fruity was heavy, but as it dried, the floral came out. Faded, dried flowers seem to be a big theme with the Spiritualism scents, which to me fits well.

ETA: And since I amp fruit, the flowers are all gone and now it's all a vaguely raspberry smell.

I like this so much. It smells of tangy lemons and soft, slightly vanilla-powdery, slightly waxy lilies on my skin. The lemon + lily winds up being a very authentic magnolia fragrance. Or else it was just always intended to be magnolia, lol. Magnolia always smells so romantic to me. I'll keep my frimp of this and continue hoarding The Bride, as they're the closest I've gotten to the perfect magnolia perfume.

To me, this has the lilac of the released Eusapia. But it also has lemon. And tea? Like the released version. It's sort of similar to me. So like the released version, with black tea instead of white. Lemon instead of candle wax. I quite like it! But I don't love it, or like it quite as much as the released version.

Lovely crimp from the lab. Stupid auto-correct. Anyhow, this one is quite fruity, but honey dusted, as some have mentioned, and I do get a kind of waxy quality, but it's more like beeswax rather than was to me. Tart and bright, but sweet in it's own way. I'm not much of a fruity girl anymore, but damn, I can wear this one:)

I received this as a frimp from the lab last year and found it pleasant, but didn't pay it too much attention after the initial few sniffs.

This spring, I'm really enjoying it. At first, I mostly smell white tea, which always has a citrusy quality to my nose. Then I smell lots of sweet, bright vanilla, but beeswax reads as vanillic to me, so I'm not sure if there's vanilla AND beeswax I'm picking up, or it's just the beeswax. It's pretty and gentle. I don't really get anything "lilac" in this, but I could see how it might have a floral smoothing down the edges.

Mostly, this is just a sugared, beeswax and white tea scent. It smells almost candied without being gourmand. I wish I'd had a chance to check out the finished version. C'est la vie.

Green and sweet in the bottle and on application. There's a brief flirtation with a tea note, but it soon settles as a pretty if powdery lilac floral. Almost like a lilac-scented candle — there's a smoothness to the powder which could be wax. Nice, but not my cup of tea. Why was this a Yule?
