Autumn - Overlooked My Knitting

Recommended Posts

A warm scent, as delicate as lace and as soft as cashmere, and as cozy as wool, punctuated with red currant for the blazing red of cochineal and surrounded a border of soft grey ambergris and a swirl of autumn leaves.

Even if this just smells like damp leaves and fuzzy ambergris, this smells like knitting in the fall. The vibe and impressions are soft, cozy, and autumnal.

There is a mildly cologne note to this blend.

Soft, comforting, autumnal.

In the imp: Ugh. Ok, I'm a little scared now. This is sharp and BITTER! Is it those dead dry leaves doing this?

Wet on skin: Still bitter. Like biting into a fresh, green bellpepper (no, not my favorite thing).

Dried down: Same, though a little softer. I can smell the ambergris (I think) coming out to play now, in that soft, woolly way.

Throw: Very little, but 1) my nose ais still a little stuffed, and 2) I don't think I really need this one to have a throw.

Verdict: ** No. No, no, no. It gets an extra star for the drydown stage, where the ambergris takes this to a place that I don't actively dislike, but this one is not for me.

Huh. This is definitely a morpher. Wet, I get the leaves, with perhaps a bit of sharpness, maybe tinged with a bit of sweet red (currant?). Then dry-down begins, and the ambergris comes out, quite strong at first, then fading into a soft perfume-y skin scent. Lovely on the right person, I'm sure, but not, I think, for me.

This is a beautiful scent, but very cologne-y. Initially the leaves are very vegetal - which I don't like, personally - but they sort of faded away and left behind some lovely sweetness from the red currant and ambergris. I wish the resin or the berry notes were stronger, because right now it's pretty but just too floral for me for most of the drydown because of the leaves (and there's no real florals!). I do like, it though! I might need to revisit it one day when I'm feeling adventurous since it truly is lovely.

at first i smell the autumn leaves, it's reminiscent of the leaves in sonnet d'automne, if i remember correctly. then there is a bit of sharpness, from the currant i am guessing (the only note i was worried about because it can turn plasticky on me, but it's behaving in that respect.) then the ambergris comes through, warming it up a lot and i like it a lot more. the leaves and currant are very prominent on my skin and the ambergris is backing it up. i kind of wish the ambergris was more prominent, but i still like this. i think i am amping the leaves a bit much, and i'd like to turn them down just a bit, because it gives me a bit of a headache if i smell it up close, but wafting around me it's very lovely.

In the bottle - My goodness, that’s green. I don’t know if I’m going to like this one.

Wet - Ah, that’s much softer now. The autumn leaves are jumping out at me. It’s a very warm scent, and it’s fitting that I’m wrapped up in a soft blanket while I review this.

Drydown - Well hello, ambergris. This is suddenly salty and a little aquatic. The leaves keep it grounded, but it still reads like autumn leaves at the seashore and I’m not sure it’s for me. Half an hour in, and I’m wearing an ocean breeze. An hour in, and it’s soft and cozy and a little masculine, like I’m snuggling with a dude. Quite a morpher!

Verdict - I’m really torn on this, though I’m leaning toward the swap pile. I’ll test a couple more times before giving it up for good.

I love this. Musky, slightly sweet (must be the currant?) leaves. Beautiful.

Editing because this has morphed and settled! Oh this is so beautiful. Like most of us in the Pacific NW I am pretty much done with 90° weather and have started wearing my Autumn favorites. There was a slight chill in the air this morning and i ran straight to this oil. It made me want to curl up with a book under a tree in 60's temps! Wishful thinking but this perfume is snuggly, soft and i love it. I hope i was smart enough to buy a backup...if not, i hope we see it with Weenies this year! Sandalwood/vanilla/leaves

Soft and light enough for day wear on me, even wet on the skin. I don't get snuggly so much as a lovely overcast autumn day out of this, but I'm likely amping the "leaves," which is not a bad thing.

Amber in the bottle. Wet on the skin, I get leaves up front, with this soft puff of amber and honey. Likely the currants comming through.

Amber and currants with a very clear, crisp scent that's hard to place, likely the dried "Autumn leaves" the profile notes talk about.

Upon application i get dried leaves and stems and something berry-like peeking out. It goes into cologne territory with a leafy twist.

Wet - wet autumn leaves single note. Very strong at first.

Dry - leaves fade to the background, leaving a gorgeous, almost vintage feeling cologne. It recalls beautiful black and white photographs of glamorous women in the 1920's and 30's with dark eyes and flirty skirts. I don't get red current particularly, but there's a subtle sweetness that I think it lends to the soft, ever so slightly salty ambergris. As soon as I tested my decant I knew I needed a bottle!

About my skin: My skin loves sugar and cakes but any chocolate and many vanillas turn plastic and powdery. Booze gets amped (but wonderfully) and will tone down the plastic smells of vanilla but NOT chocolate. Wine, creams and honey often turn sour immediately. White, red and dark musks are love. Vetiver and Civet are not. I can also be sensitive to cinnamon in a blend but a little Snake Oil almost always takes the burny away.

About my nose: Kitchen spices (peppers, ginger, cardamom and sage) make me sneeze. Frankincense reminds me of sage. I dislike the smell of leather. Almost anything floral or wood (including sandalwood) gives me a headaches but I can do bergamot, rose and sweetpea in small doses. I don't like licorice either. Forest smells are great, decay is not. I really love linen and clean smells. Citrus is hit or miss.

Imp: Itchy and clean, but in a good way!

Skin: I don't really get 'warm' from this at all. Warm to me is deep musks and darker baked goods or thick incensey blends. I can't pick out wool (and I work with wool a lot). I'm getting mostly that watery ambergris smell. Huh. I wonder if I just amp ambergris to the point where I get nothing else? Even so, I really like it...sort of...?

Verdict: So I don't get the same scents everyone else seems to be getting, but this is just a spot test on the inside of my elbow. I'm going to do a full body test eventually and will edit.

This ends up being a sweet, soft slightly citrus blend. So soft, in fact that it barely lasts half an hour. Pretty while it lasted, kind of like a soft, airy cashmere sweater of the finest wool, as in fine quality and thinness. I don't detect any red quality at all.

I sort of thought this would wind up smelling like snuggling under a warm blanket. A soft cozy scent perfect for fall/winter days at home reading.

What I got was nothing at all relaxing or even remotely "knitted" or grey. Bummer.

This smells a bit like fabric refresher and my laundry room. Not in the snuggly downy way....no this reminds me of a room where all your cleaning products are kept mixed with a good dose of fabric and dryer lint.

Now after a bit it turns into a very pretty smelling generic body spray. Not something I want in my BPAL but not stinky or gross either.

It leaves me just meh...

This smells like what I imagine the color grey smelling like. Clean, soft and a bit sharp.

This is a bit comforting though, reminds me of something that I've smelled before. Maybe clean sheets from my grandmas linen closet?

All in all I won't be reaching for this all too often but I like it enough that I don't ever wanna get rid of my decant :)

*Editing because I've been reaching for this one a lot this week and I'm loving it more and more! I think I need a bottle!

Wet: Orange blossom...oh noes!! That's unexpected. Oh wait, it's not, it's dead leaves I am smelling. It does this same "bitter" thing on my skin when wet. Hoping the other notes sweeten it up! Where is the ambergris I was dying for???

Dry: This dries down beautifully!! My favourite dry leaves blend thus far. It's sweet, and warm and glowing. Hard to describe. I can't pick out the ambergris, which I am a little sad about, but it's beautiful. Cozy. I really like it. All the bitterness from the leaves has faded, but they are still very present. Lovely.

Starts off with damp, sharp green leaves threatening to go soapy, and a sour, tart red currant. Dries down to mostly ambergris, which always smells like a warm, golden amber and aquatic cologne to me with a slight spiciness.

I bought a partial bottle of this and got it last week. At first it was just ambergris with a tiny bit of fruitiness at the start, so I left it for a week to rest. Now it gives me a swirl of autumn leaves for about a second, after which it's straight ambergris again. I don't want just ambergris, I like complicated scents. Am I amping the ambergris so badly that it kills all the rest?

Fall leaves and ambergris with a tiny hint of currant.

Cologney and rather faint on my considering the type of notes.

Pretty and powdery in the end.

Happy to try but not for me.

Definately a watered down version of the dead leaves from the imp, with something sweet.
On my skin, the dead leaves and sappyness (yes it's got both) fade away nearly completely, and it's faint on me in general. I get a lovely golden fuzzy what I'm guessing is amber? Dusty. And there's probably red berries or SOMETHING red in there.
In the end, completely dry there's a soft vine-ish, green note in there, it's back to the sappy but that hasn't taken away from it's powderyness.
I like it, but I barely smell it on me.

First impression - very similar to the "autumn leaves/cologne" note in October. More bitter and masculine than I expected. As it dries down, that sharpness smooths out and the distinctive warmth of ambergris appears. Soft and grey like fuzzy wool. But there's still a bitter note I dislike, and it somehow smells like Mexican food of all things, which I've also gotten with Bella Donna de mia Mente. Who knows!?
