Dark Pumpkin Mead

Recommended Posts

Thick, heady pumpkin mead sweetened with clover honey and a hint of maple.

In the bottle: Maple mead, not too sweet, with a swirl of pumpkin.

Wet: Much as on cold sniff.

The dry-down: What an odd duck! A not-very-sweet mead scent, with more woods than honey. I might try layering with O for more honey. Hopefully aging will improve this. I was expecting to adore this; instead I just like it.

I really had a fail-party with this year's Weenies I'm afraid :( Anything with a pumpkin note went cheap-holiday-candle on me. This is no exception. There is also a very strong melted butter thing going on.

I guess I've learned my lesson re: pumpkin!

I've still got a lot of my Halloweenie shopping to review from this year's selection so before my Yule's come in, I'm going to make a start! Dark Pumpkin Mead is what it says it is - it is dark, it is pumpkiny and it is boozy. Beyond that, it has a treacle/molasses note (on my skin anyway) that really is very moreish. I get the maple also and as others have said - it's not a cheap maple note, it's a REAL maple syrup note. If this blend, all notes included, was an edible sauce or syrup of some sort I would want it slathered on everything I eat. It's so well-rounded and tasty. Also, a little bit goes a long, LONG way. The throw is incredible and smells wonderful on my husband also. Perfect for those lazy, cosy Autumn/Winter days where you want to be warmed and soothed and pleasured by the perfume you wear. Dark Pumpkin Mead is a gourmand hug in a bottle.

Pumpkin pie spice and an odd alcoholic note, sweet fermented oats or something like that. I don't mind the pumpkin and spice, though it's pretty much like all the pumpkin patches and like blends, but the alcohol note is rather nauseating. :( Not my thing.

In the bottle - A pulpy raw pumpkin scent

Wet on me - Cinnamon and green apples

Dry on me - A warm spicy fruity scent

Overall - Nice, but I was hoping for more meadiness

wooahhh i don't know about this. it doesn't really remind me of mead, but it is dark and boozey with hints of spice. the longer i wear it, though, the pumpkin starts to go waxy and candley and it just doesn't work on my skin. disappointing. :(

In the bottle: Caramel, maple, then after many sniffs boozy pumpkin joins the party. It's lovely enough just like this I might put it in a locket for craving busters.

Wet: Quickly morphing spices and something high and sharp, bright, a bit boozy, shading to spiced pumpkins and vodka. After a while it begins to darken. As time goes by, it becomes a deep, dark, slightly gritty pumpkin with maybe just a hint of sweetness.

Drydown: Harshly spicy, dark undertones, pumpkin with fake caramel on top. Overwhelmingly strong. Kinda slightly headachy.

Conclusions: This is a locket scent!

I smell all the described scents in the bottle of Pumpkin Mead: pumpkin, booze, a hint of clover, and the dark sweetness of maple. Right when I put it on my skin, however, it turns to SPICE! Maple and spice overload. My wrist now stinks of a pumpkin Red Hot. Hopefully once it settles down, it will become that dark and earthly sweet that arises out of the bottle.

10 minutes later: Now smells like a dark, boozy honey. It's growing on me.

First on, this smells like pumpkin pancakes dusted with cinnamon and drizzled with melted butter, maple syrup and caramel. It was so sweet, but fun, and I'd be hoarding bottles if it stayed that way. Unfortunately, the spice amps up in the drydown and I'm getting a strange, waxy honey (like beeswax more than clover honey) note that really makes this smell like a generic pumpkin spice candle, with a hint of maple syrup.

Wow!!! Thick, heady, tarty and sweet are words that come to mind sniffing the imp.

It's lovely at first, exactly what you'd hope reading the words dark pumpkin mead but alas, just as with Jack, this pumkin fades and fades away and there's only the boozy/honey notes left. Not bad, but the pumpkin was what made this awesome. Aw. :c

In the decant: Mead, honey, and maple. I can't detect the pumpkin as an independent note.

On my skin:

Wet, the mead, sweet and slightly boozy, is prominent. As it dries, the pumpkin also becomes detectable, softening some of the mead and honey sweetness. It's roundly sweet and gently spicy, more like a pumpkin + pumpkin pie spice scent than a purely pumpkin one.

After the initial drydown, the scent morphs very little on me. It stays pumpkin-dominant, sweetened by the honey and mead. If the maple is present at all, I only notice it as part of the sweetness. The scent as a whole is lovely -- sweet and rich without being cloying -- and my only complaint is that it has so little throw on me. But I'll happily use up this decant.

2019 version (I didn't know this was a revenant scent!):

Spices and a whiff of fermented honey in the bottle. Goes on as PSL mix. There’s a drop of maple as it dries, but it’s mostly just the pumpkin spices.

I was disappointed in this one at first - when I first received my shipment. All I could smell was cloying maple. Now, I love maple, but don't really want to smell like a syrup bottle.

But just leaving it alone for a month or so, it's settled, and getting more complex. Maple is there for sure, but there's a subtle spice (cinnamon-ish) note, and I get the honey in there as well. I don't reeeeally get the pumpkin, but it's playing in the background. It's a dark, sweet blend that I'll enjoy wearing over the cold months.

2019 Dark Pumpkin Mead.  This is yummy.  Wet, it's buttery caramelized pumpkin with a hint of maple syrup.  As it dries down I get a hint of the fizziness and fermentation of the mead, and the spices begin to emerge, but it's never an in-your-face pumpkin pie spice, it's quite mellow.  I really like this -- it's warm and comforting -- but it's not a category I actually wear very often.  If you love Dwarven Ale, you must try this.

Definitely boozy.  A bit like a sweeter Dwarven Ale, and a bit more buttery.  I get a good whiff of maple and a tiny touch of cinnamon, along with a hearty beer note.  The pumpkin is more present on me at the beginning, but get's overtaken by the maple by the end.  This was a frimp from a generous forumite, and I'm delighted to have tried it.  I think, overall, it's a bit too foody for me, but if you want a gourmand that aptly captures a rich, dark brew, this is a good one.  Perfect for Oktoberfest!

Got this as a frottle with a huge order, finally daring to try it along with more of last year's Weenies.  In the bottle:  DEEP honey mead--there used to be a local brand in Upstate NY--along with toasted spices and a hint of pumpkin.  On, wet:  Spice note heats up very quickly, with a good hit of cinnamon in it.  Almost burnt/dark honey notes come out as long as the rest of the other spice notes after a bit.  Drydown:  A really sweet cloud of pumpkin spice mead!  Amazing wear length, medium throw, morphs a lot during drydown.  Definitely one for the honey and pumpkin spice fans!

2019 "half" bottle:

Okay this is definitely not half...more like 2ML at most...but moving on to the smells. A generous serving of honey, mulled down into a thick and medium-boozy brew spiced with all the complements you'd expect from a Dark Pumpkin Mead. This starts out quite drink-adjacent (as opposed to food-adjacent) and morphs into something perfumey to me, pleasantly so. It is really, really mild to my nose, like almost no throw, but my other half did comment on it from across the table, so maybe not NO throw?

This is quite nice, a little gourdy, a little spicy, a little boozy, and actually quite a lot of honey. But I'm not convinced I couldn't get this from layering, say, O or This White Wan Humming Hive with another pumpkin BPAL. If you have the opportunity to acquire and this is a scent in your wheelhouse, I wouldn't hesitate. But also I'm not desperate for more. There are others with a bigger bang on me.
