Maison En Pain d’Épices

This is the scent of a freshly assembled gingerbread house, with swirls of multicolored icing, spice drop lights, meringue snow, pinwheel mint accents, chocolate roof tiles, candy wafer pavers, and jelly candy stained glass. We used a French translation for ‘gingerbread house’ as the name to make it sound fancier. French adds +40% Fancy!

2018 Version

This surprisingly really didn't mesh well with my skin chemistry. Smells delicious in the bottle. Gingerbready with lots of spice and warmth, but on my skin it takes on a bit of the notoriously play-doh note.

(2018 version.)

Wet: Gingerbread, chocolate, and just a hint of a sweet candy-mint smell. It really does remind me of a gingerbread house!

Dry: While the chocolate and gingerbread were the strongest notes in the wet stage, the candy notes have taken over the dry stage. (The mint seemed to get lost, though; I don't smell it at all now.)

I would say.. this is a candy and frosting scent, with just a hint of gingerbread and chocolate in the background.

2016 version.

This does remind me of a gingerbread house. I get fluffy gingerbread and candy (the spice drops are the most prominent on me, and the chocolate is light and only stuck around for the wet stage). I do not get much frosting from this, but maybe that's because I tend to amp spice notes. After a few hours, it mostly smells like a candied gingerbread scent.

This was frimped to me, and I'm glad that I got to try this! I never ordered a decant of this myself, as I wasn't sure how all of those different candy notes would mesh together, but I like this more than I thought I would. :)

I scored the 2011 version off the Etsy page, and didn't let it rest before trying. MISTAKE. Now, 8 months later, I'm testing again. SUCCESS.

In the bottle, it's pretty much just gingerbread, but once applied, I get wonderful candy notes! Mostly fruity hard candy notes. Obviously with a consistent gingerbread base. It's wonderful and really does smell like the full experience of a gingerbread house building adventure, including eating more candy than gluing to your house!

This review is for the 2016 version!

It started out gingerbread, but once applied the candy and frosting notes quickly overshadow it and force that note into the background. Can definitely notice the gum drops and mints the most, no chocolate.

If you were looking forward to the gingerbread, this is probably not a good choice. The gingerbread is barely there and the main focus is on the candy decorations. However, because of the gingerbread it's not nearly as sweet as other similar Winter perfumes. As it fades, the candy notes are the first to go and only then do I really get the gingerbread. But by now it's mostly the spices.
