Man With Phallus Head

Recommended Posts

Smoky musk, ambergris, tonka bean, brown sandalwood, daemonorops, black currant, and honey.

in the bottle: definitely getting the daemondrops, a bit of the black currant and some musk. it's sweet, dark, and rich

wet on skin: the daemondrops and ambergris dominate at this stage. incense-y for sure.

dry down: wow. very powerful, non gender specific and quite strong on the incense. this reminds me of Jacob's Ladder a LOT, and that's good, because that's my favorite incense scent from the Lab.

in all: if you like the incense-type scents, this is a total winner.

This goes on dark, complex and a little creamy (that must be the tonka and sandlawood combination). It's a very smooth, purply, sexy, comforting, and almost velvety scent. I don't find the currants to be overly raisiny or too grapey here, they just add a slight wine-like tone to the whole thing, which the honey only makes better. It's a subtle honey, just a sweet drop or two.

Honestly, I think this might be one of my favorite sandalwood blends, since the other notes in this complement it so well that it doesn't overpower everything else, as sandalwood normally does to me. The musk keeps the sandalwood smelling "moist", so it doesn't go dry and dusty. The ambergris adds a little bit of a sharp bite to this, but it's faint on me. While it gives me that slight tingle in my nose that's usually the sign of a perfume that's going to give me a headache, it never goes that far, and that sharpness actually helps to brighten up a blend that might threaten to be too dark.

I don't find that this one morphs very much, and as with Giant Vulva, my only complaint is how close to the skin it gets as it fades down, but I think that's going to be a trend with the Lupercalias, and I do tend like my perfume strong. (Edited to add - after only about 4 hours this has gone so faint I really have to sniff at my wrist to smell it, but this might be one that's worth re-applying a time or two a day.)

bottle: sandalwood and what i presume must be the daemondrops because it's that same scent that's in i married a vampire from planet x.

wet: daemondrops with something sweet and vanilla-y (the tonka and honey perhaps?).

dry: the musk seems to come out as this dries, making this a creamy, rich scent that sticks pretty close to my skin.

In bottle: That’s a lot of current. I can detect musk, honey and incense, but it’s really all about the currents and what I suspect is the daemonorops. Wet: Candied currents mostly with a bit of daemonorops and incense peeking out. Dry: I can finally smell the tonka and sandalwood properly. I’m sadly underwelmed. This just isn’t working with my skin chemistry at all. All the elements seem to separate out rather than blend.

These notes looked perfect for me, especially if the daemonorops behaved as it did in Anactoria (also with honey and currant), rather than as its cousin, regular Dragon's Blood, which hates me.

On me though, Man with Phallus Head is a strangely dry, spicy, and almost powdery scent. It's lighter than I imagined, perkier and brighter underneath the usually heavy sandalwood, musk, and tonka. I get very little honey, and almost none of the currant. As it dries, it gets creamier, and the sandalwood stays around pleasantly, in a more complex way than a traditional incense-sandalwood scent. It's definitely not a darker version of Anactoria, and I agree with the comparison with Jacob's Ladder in some aspects.

Overall, I agree with Gwydion - I'm underwhelmed, though it's mostly pleasant.

Wet, this is all daemonorops and musk. 5 minutes after the initial application, the black currant and honey make an appearance, sweetening the blend. This is niiiiiiiiiice! Incense-y and kind of mysterious smelling. Further into the drydown the ambergris and brown sandalwood come out, adding depth and a smoothness. I can smell the tonka faintly in the background and I think it adds a hit of creaminess here. Overall, the effect is really stunning and intriguing. I agree with the velvety statement that someone said previously. It's complex and beautiful.

My bottle arrived yesterday and I had to try it out. (I do have to say that looking at the artwork it looks less like a phallus head and more like... well, something else... hee!)

When it's first on me it smelled odd. Not bad odd, but indescribable odd. Kind of vanilla-y and flowery with a bit more freshness than I anticipated. There was a brief point while it was setting on my skin that it got unpleasant. Sort of a sharp musk. That passed very quickly though. I'm crap at picking notes out, but this blend is definitely complex. It smells sexy without being too forceful about it - it's a mature scent, the kind of scent that my husband thinks is really nice but that I don't know that I'd wear it if I were going on a first date with someone. It's a scent to entice someone you've made love with before, I think.

I am really glad I got a bottle, in other words. ;)

Soft, and less firm than I would have expected such a rigidly defined scent to be. From the base of the bush-like woodsy wood notes, I detected a prick of soft sandalwood, dribbling with the hint of sweet tonka, but not being overtaken, there was a tiny pulse of musk. I don't detect honey, and this scent, while engorged and waiting, is now a bit more shy and curves away from where I expect it to go. That's ok, it's good enough to get where I need it to go and it does tickle some part deep within. Not usually my type but with the right situation it can satisfy my craving for fuzzy woodsy scents.

Oh wow....definitely a very sexy scent! It the bottle it smells like smokey sweet candy! On the dry down, I definitely pick up on the brown sandalwood, musk (no smoke though) and it must be the sweetness of the tonka bean I'm getting. Something fruity too, must be the currant? This is a wonderful scent!

I looked at the list of notes and salivated...it should be fantastic! Except, that on me, ambergris usually kidnaps the scent entirely and makes everything vanish.

It starts off sweet, and sexay, and delicious...but I keep waiting for ambergris to swoop in and make off with it.

*sniff*

Y'know. I don't care. I'll lock this one up tight in a scent locket and ambergris won't be able to steal it!

I got this in a swap....and the notes...are gorgeous except for the ambergis.... :ack: we don't get along so well.

Wet: Dark, Rich, and Sweet

On the skin: Dark, Rich, a little smoky...no ambergis yet....fingers crossed.

Drydown: :joy: absolutely wonderful...the ambergis is held in check...Yes!!! Other than the pornographic bottle... I have a dick head on my bottle it's perfect. :P

ETA: the ambergis is trying to break through here...but the rest of the notes temper it...so it is absolutely wonderful.

Bottle: A lightly beeswaxy kinda pale fruity smell over some light amber/musk?

Wet: Light honey/wax/amber with some light florals almost citrus like tones. Overall, its kinda like hand of glory without all the leather, less beeswax, and more powdery resin/fuminess. The darker, powdery resinous tones are slightly oppressive.

Drying: The fumey/powder/resinous scent strengthens, along with muskiness, and perhaps some dry blonde woods. There also seems to be a light hint of something almost spicy.

Dry: Throw is a lovely musky beeswax, kinda smoky, with that opressive musk/resin base. Actually, the best way that I can describe this is the smokey musk of devil’s night meets beeswax of hand of glory. Very, very nice.

Overall: Devil's Night and Hand of Glory lovechild. Very lovely. But I think I like the other two a wee bit better, so I'll likely pass this on. I'm kinda curious to see how it ages, first, though.

Excited to try this one - the label cracks me up.

Wet and in the bottle, it's musky, smokey, and honey. There's a little bit of a soapy cleanness to it.

Freshly applied, the ambergris is strong - this is really well blended. If you were trying to figure out how tonka/musk/ambergris/honey/sandalwood all smelled differently, then this ISN'T the blend for you.

I do get that sweetness of daemonorops (which Google tells me is a form of dragon's blood), but again, this is amazingly well blended.

Don't worry... doesn't smell like the picture on the label might ;)

This one is musky, smoke and honey. It's a bit powdery on me, but it's a soft skin scent, very close to the skin and very sexual.

It has a vague masculine tone, the kind that insinuates itself on you and the more you close in, suddenly you realize how dead sexy this is. And then you have to excuse yourself because.... there are things you have to take care of. This is basically the boy, who looks sweet and unassuming and then you realize midway through dinner you have this crazy sexual attraction, so much so that you sneak off to have hot sex with him in the bathroom of the restaurant you're at because you can't wait until you get home. And it's some of the best sex. Ever.

Subtly but viscerally sexy and sexual.

Unfortunately, my skin eats this up. Literally. ;)

In the bottle: sweet, light currants, very fruity and flirty.

On me: Oh my. This is raw, visceral sex. I was worried about the musk in this because I don't like smoke scents, but I don't get any smoke, just musk, ambergris, and sandalwood. As it dries the fruit goes away, the flirtiness is over, and it's time to go at it.

This is very reminiscent of Sed Non Satiata, which I loooooove. Multiple bottle order here!

This combination of warm ambergris and spicy daemonorops is the first thing I notice, and it’s gorgeous. Then there’s the somehow decadent fruitiness of black currant and a musk which truly is smoky, as the description states. The only thing I don’t like is the candy sweetness of the tonka. It’s quite strong and gives a cloying edge to the scent.

Oh dear, it only seems to grow stronger as time passes. Well, it was nice at first, anyway. It's just too sweet on my skin. But I’m telling you, I’d burn Man with Phallus Head incense day and night! Love that ambergris!

This is definitely a dirty, sexy scent, but the black currant comes out surprisingly strong so that the smoky-muskiness is second fiddle to the berry tartness. I'd consider it more foody than incense-y, personally - it smells rather lickable ;)

The sweet musk in this scent reminds me of Anactoria, and also the Cathouse room spray. It's powdery, soft, deep, and sweet.

After a few hours, I swear I smell rose on my collar where I accidentally slathered some of the oil. It's nice, though - again, soft, sweet, and smooth.

Very nice, although it's similar enough to Anactoria on me to hold me back from getting a full bottle.

This scent is just all wrong on me. I don't know why because none of the notes in this are particular notes I have issues with. And there isn't a real reason that this should smell overwhelmingly of white floral, but it does. Just soapy, white floral that eventually goes powdery also due to the daemonorops (dragon's blood tends to do that on me). I don't get honey or musk or smokey anything. Sad :(

At first this smells bizarrely of bubble gum, before it changes into this lovely honey-spice blend. And then it changes again, and it's...baby powder?!? Argh, sandalwood, you've gone too far!

Definitely a morpher, but not the good kind on my skin :(.

Now...the first time I tried this on it became straight up popcorn. Like Drink Me popcorn-ish. It was really weird. Now I try it on and it becomes this floral scent XD I really dont know what to expect with this one. That alone makes me have to say no. Who knows what kind of crazy can occur.... I really wanted a dark smokey scent. Instead I occasionally get popcorn and other times floral.

Yep. This exactly. It starts off very soapy and as it dries and does turn a bit darker and more complex but still....soapy. A wonderful rich expensive...soap.

I am almost tempted on getting a bottle to make bath oil or hair conditioner with, but since I'm trying to downsize and only keep what I love, I probably won't. I will keep the decant though.

Wet on my skin, this is so beautiful - I smell the honey, the tonka bean, a little currant, with just a hint of the sandalwood... After it's dried down, it is very faint but still pretty, mostly honey musk at that point. Love my decant, deciding on whether or not to get a bottle...

Sniffing the imp, I get mostly honey and black currant.

Wet on skin, sweet & fruity initially, but quickly turns to mostly smoky musk over everything else...

On dry down, I'm getting baby powder. :(
